I mentioned in the video "made in UK" and the online rumours of possibly Ilford making it for Fuji. No one knows for sure, it's all speculation. But who cares. The return of Acros 100 (II) is exciting news for everyone that loved the original.
Apparently it's equally likely they're just finishing it for them. Very well possible Fuji makes the film but doesn't still have the machinery to put it into cans / on spools and Ilford has some spare capacity. Which is also apparently Kodak's problem at the moment.
I haven' finished watching yet but I need to write this now: I love that you did not choose some beatiful young girl but bit older gentleman. Exactly opposite to one of the comments where someone wrote something like: but not older people... It was among those ideas when you asked what to photograph with Acros. Thank you for your choice which I read as implicite comment to that remark. Now I get back to watching.
I got a couple of the Acros II 120 rolls as an added bonus from a camera purchase. I shot one and I really liked how the negatives looked: sharp, dense, clean, and fine grain. Even if the pictures were bad, the exposure itself was beautiful. I even bought 5 rolls of 35mm when it was on sale. It's really not worth the asking price of $13. I could buy 2 rolls of FP4 for that.
@@ShootFilmLikeaBoss I figured it was just packaged by Ilford until I looked at the rebate typeface and markings, which are pretty much identical to Ilford's. I wonder to what extent Fuji actually has on its production.
I'm still shooting Acros 1 and still loving it. I even have 2 rolls of Neopan 400 left and am looking forward to shooting them. My most favourite films ever and so happy the 100 is back. Thanks for the video.
Great video. I shot some A1 a few years ago and fell in love with it. I didn't stockpile and am very glad to see it coming back. Hope US prices are competitive.
At $10-13 a roll USD, I don’t know if I can justify the new Acros over Delta 100. I’ve shot about 50-60 Rolls of the original Acros and maybe 40 rolls of Delta 100. And not only is Delta 100 cheaper, it is more pleasing to my eye and I have had better results pushing it to 200. I’m glad that Ilford is involved in the manufacturing process as that will provide my favorite brand some additional income. But I am guessing that additional player and logistical burden is the reason for the price increase.
Shoot Film Like a Boss in the USA a bulk roll of Delta is $70.00 which gives me 17 rolls of around 40-41 frames a roll. And that comes to about $4.12 a roll.
You are lucky 10-13 USD for one Acros II film . In Belgium nest to the UK Acros II cost "only" 14 Euro is about 15,25 USD . Ilford Delta 100 cost only 6 Euro ...... And with the Brexit Acros Ii could easy "sell" for 16,50 Euro . Acros was my film from 2006 to 2019 , now I use the Delta 100 . Delta 100 also print easy in the darkroom on fiber paper .
Really nice comparison. Really interesting to see how you work in the darkroom. I develop and scan myself but am tempted to have a go with photographic paper and an enlarger..........
Thank you for doing this video!! I’ve been waiting anxiously to hear a comparison so you made my day! I had no idea that Ilford is producing the film for Fujifilm! Thats great news for Ilford!
As soon as I heard it’s made in the UK, I came to that conclusion myself. It makes perfect sense because who else makes film in the UK and who knows b/w film better than Ilford!
A good comparison with a nice print of Walter at the end. I didnt realise they made Acros in the UK. Does this mean they ship it to Japan, import it back to the UK with a markup and import duties. It sounds like £12 a roll to me and a huge carbon footprint. Im pleased they are bringing it back and hopefully distribution will be streamlined in the not too distant future.
It's all speculation but it says "Made in UK". So seems like it's shipped out , selling in Japan first then who knows when it will be shipped out to others markets.
I just received this from Freestyle Photo: "We are hoping to get Fujifilm Neopan Acros II in January 2020, but it might be delayed to May 2020. Keep checking in on our website in the new product section for the latest updates." I'll be in Hong Kong next month and may sniff around for a few rolls...
GOOD VLOG AS USUAL - thanks for showing us these results! Acros has always been a good film (still got some stashed in the freezer), but while I can buy FP4 for HALF the price I'll stick to Ilford's own film emulsions.
Hey Roger!!thanks for the amazing videos you re making every now and then!!what about using ilfosol 3 and exposing it either normally, pushed to 400 or pulled down to 50? No info available whatsoever! Is it the same like acros 1? Should I refer to your other video? What would you suggest? Cheers, mate!
lens variation could have accounted for any flair effects noted on the portraits. UPDATE: never mind. I re-watched the vid and see you kept the same camera / lens combination. So there IS consistency.
@@ShootFilmLikeaBoss there are two other possibilities... I am adamant about using a hood on lenses. maybe some of the flash entered tangentally? also, if your eye was not composing during all the shot, you might use a piece of black tape over eyepiece to prevent stray light from entering the chamber backwards and around the raised mirror to ultimately reach the film plane.
With the halation on the shoulders, would a different lens help with that? I choose certain lenses for the effect in colour with older varieties, it's a faint 'glassy' violet blue. Dunno. I have a few rolls left from last year, one in an F100 I'm taking odd exposures of oscilloscope screens with a tripod. God knows how they'll develop. Probably wasted.
It's light spilling off the white background. Walter needed to be further away from it really. Interesting thought but I don't think a different lens would help that.
this is the first time watching your video/channel. Ill explore your channel more, but really wondering if you talk about the development process and what you did to get prints the "traditional" way? or at least i think it looked like it.
I'm sure Ilford agreed to make film for Fuji because the price is so high. They wouldn't have accepted if it threatened the sales of their own films, would they...?
Never tried Acros so when Acros ii came out I picked up a roll of 120, ouch expensive, thought I'd give it a try. Not impressed, yes the image is smooth, however, it's a royal pain to handle. If you didn't know anything about the film I would of thought it is a student film. It's very thin not easy to get on film reel, when you try to get it in the holder to scan due to it extreme curve very difficult to get into and keep in the film holder. often took me several tries to get it in the scanner and hope it's flat enough to scan. The film is very thin, I also shot a roll of Tmax and scanned them at the same time. Tmax's thicker film with less curve much easier to load on reel and to scan. I wonder if the original Acros that Fuji made is thicker. I remember when Fuji dropped Acros many claimed Ultrafine Extreme was simular. UE is also thinner then Tmax but easier to work with then Acros ii. The results are somewhat simular but with slightly higher contrast. You can buy three roll of UE for the price of one roll of Acros ii. I developed both rolls of film in H-110 b and I will be sticking with Tmax and UE for now.
Fuji Acros was my favourite B&W film for a long time until they pulled it, but lawks-a-lordy, I just can't justify $A18.50 per roll here in ɐᴉlɐɹʇsn∀ for Acros II. I guess I have Acros tastes on a Foma budget.
Ilford haven't denied producing new Acros. Ilford said they don't repack their own films for other brands. There's a big difference in these statements ;)
If it is made by Ilford, does this mean Fuji is providing their chemicals and just outsourcing the manufacturing to Ilford or does it mean we're literally getting a rebranded Ilford film? If it's genuine Fuji chemicals made the way Fuji would make it, I'm fine with it, but if it's a rebranded Ilford film, I have no interest. I don't like the look of Ilford. Plus, I hear the prices are steep for a 100 speed film. Acros 2 is already rubbing me the wrong way
I very much doubt it's a rebranded Ilford. No other Ilford film, as far as I know, has the same reciprocity as Fuji acros. Someone said the base is made in Japan and sent to UK for canning. Who knows. So much speculation. I imagine it's fuji formula put together in a UK factory.
