ANDOR Episode 4 BREAKDOWN (STARKILLER!!)

- Episode 4 I really enjoyed. While I feel casual Star Wars fans may find it too slow, I found it to be really engaging with the lore and overall trajectory of where the show will go. I think Andor is on its way to be a really great show with what I just saw.
The show dives into the cogs and gears of the empire as well as the early formation of the rebellion and I can’t wait to see more of the smaller characters as well as the bigger main ones. Such as Mas Amedda, sly Moore, krennic, Tarkin, thrown, Vader, and Palpatine.
We start the episode off with Andor and Luthen as they head to Aldani, as cassian grabs a med pack to bandage his blaster wound. As they head into hyperspace, Luthen asks Cassian to come help him with something important. As Cassian tries to learn who Luthen is, he asks who are you, alliance, sep, guerrilla, partisan front? These were all factions that would later come together to form the alliance to restore the republic, but it won’t officially happen for a few more years closer to a new hope. When he says seps, he is referring to separatists, which was the faction lead by Count Dooku during the clone wars. Luthen says, aren’t those all the same, as now the only thing that exists is the empire, so everything else is kind of just seen as the same thing. As Cassian tells him he doesn’t want to fight anymore, as he’s seen enough war in the battle of Mimban, when he was 16.
now we saw the battle of Mimban in Solo a Star Wars story. But even before that it was a world that was fought over by the clones and the separatists particularly the 224th and 501st battalions. However of course this didn’t last because the Empire took over. So once that happened, Mimban rebelled against the Empire, and we got the battle of Mimban which we saw in solo. Mimban was rich of minerals that the empire wanted. This was where the empire tried to and upon Cassian’s intrigued behaviour, Luthen tells him there’s a heist to steal the quarterly payroll for an imperial site. This means it could be more than just money, maybe even all the files and documents. The Battle of Mimban was a nightmare as the planet was full of mud and fog requiring tons of upkeep for the army headed there and the troops who suffered harsh conditions surviving on the terrain. Luthen tells him that Cassian was only there for 6 months and he ran away.
Luthen gives a motivational speech and says he came specifically for Cassian, clearly he knows a lot about him, and he says he’ll reward Cassian with 200,000 credits if he accepts the job.
As Mon Mothma arrives at Luthen’s shop, we finally learn what’s going on here. As we see his shop, let’s first go over the Easter eggs really quickly and then we can move on.. We see the armor from a Mandalorian, specifically Jango Fett or The Mandalorian Din Djarin however as Din isn’t relevant for another 15 years, we can assume it’s Jango’s or just any random Mandalorian Armor.
We see the family heirloom that belongs to Twi’Lek’s which we saw Hera explain in Rebels.
We see Star Killer’s helmet, a Gungan shield, the hands from the mortis painting wall from Rebels, Captain MeruMeru’s helmet from revenge of the Sith, as well as Plo Koon’s breathing mask, and both a Jedi and Sith holocron. If I missed some, let me know in the comments below!
So Luthen Takes senator Mon Mothma in the back of his shop after faking showing her stuff for her husband. They don’t trust the new driver she has, as he might be a spy, so they play the game. Mon Mothma informs Luthen that the Empire is hiring spies by the day as she is constantly surrounded by Imperials or spies and can’t trust anyone.
As Mon Mothma learns of the dinner party for the governor of Hanna, as she looks at the seating chart, we see that Sly Moore will be there from the Grand Vizier’s private chamber. Sly Moore was the force sensitive bald lady that always followed Palpatine around in the prequels along with Mas Ameda. She could force mind trick people and she is one of the few beings to know Palpatine’s true identity as Darth Sidious. Ars Dangor was an advisor to Palpatine, we heard of him in the Tarkin audio book. So this means we’ll see the dinner with her and Mon Mothma in the next episode, I am looking forward to seeing that because she is like a portal into Palpatine’s world and what he’s up to.
Cassian and the crew explain that sacred Valley and how the Empire took over 13 years ago, as they learned of the unique storage facility of the Emperor and claimed it for themselves. This means Palpatine probably has so many Jedi and Sith artifacts hidden in there it’s going to be like when Luke went into one of his observatories in battlefront 2’s story mode cinematic.

@@NorthernLaw_ Normal projectile weapons DO exist in the Star Wars universe. They always have, see the cycler rifles used by Tusken Raiders.
@@NorthernLaw_ there are several weapons from the original trilogy which are basically unmodified WWII weapons, I think they were just going for the same idea because the AK47 has been around since the cold war even though it's still used today
@@pozzyvibes6997 we don't know that the star wars ak47 isn't a blaster rifle yet
@@gooselord7896 Indeed. But at the same time its not that important really. If its a blaster, cool, if its a projectile weapon, cool.
@@gooselord7896 they used ww2 weapons because they possess a certain look; lots of tubes and ease of manufacture parts, radiator grills for cooling, - all of this lends itself very easy to a sci f - steampunk style genre that star wars weapons fall into. The AK-47 is just so ubiquitous that it immediately feels out of place in the Star Wars canon.
I also like how Cassian isn't just instantly made a rebel. Excited for his journey to unfold.
Facts he’s a mercenary doing it for the money love that
@@blackwolfhaley yeah well i think the money is just a justification for him to risk his life. he definitely hates the empire
Andor has been such a breath of fresh air. It's so cool getting to actually see the Empire's management in a live action setting. We haven't gotten a proper glimpse at the Empire's day to day operations since like A New Hope. I'm loving how lived in every part of Andor has felt. No character feels like a side character if you know what I mean. They all feel like they have lives outside of the small parts they play on screen. And that's a rare thing for ANY series to pull off, let alone one that takes place in a universe as vast as Star Wars.
I think if you did this same story and it wasn't in the star wars universe, it would still be a good show. That's something we need more of. Good stories, good characters and good directing set in the world of Star Wars
@@clanwaddell5628 I concur
Rouge one also showed a lot of the empire.
@@huh7270 probably the best movie Disney has made with Star Wars

I am loving this show so far. The only thing that gets me is wishing they would have spent this kind of time, care, money and writing on Kenobi. The character, Ewan and Hayden deserved this level of care and expertise.
It's like they hired a 10 y.o kid to write Obi Wan
Yeah, exactly
Exactly what I’ve been saying man… If Jon & Dave were too busy to do Kenobi, they should have just delayed Kenobi by a few more years, until they had time to work on it, and give it the proper care it deserved… Debra Chow was not a good choice for a Director… She’s fine under Jon & Dave’s guidance… But, not experienced enough to Direct a Series about Kenobi & Vader on her own…
And, the Writers that wrote Kenobi, were fucking terrible… The head Writer admitted that he hadn’t even watched Revenge Of The Sith…
It was such a huge disappointment… It should have been, & easily could have been the best Star Wars Series of all time, if they had the right people involved…
But, instead… We got… REEEEVAAAA!… & WAAAAAAAAADE!… And.. A shitload of shaky Cam, & terrible dialogue.
I agree, Hayden and Ewan should gotten the best of the best better than mandalorian. But Kathleen Kennedy delayed kenobi for script rewrites and shoehorned her agenda into the movie because Kenobi was too popular of a character to ignore.
I do enjoy Kenobi, but I can see that it didn't receive the level of care that Andor has. Kenobi could have been better, although it was very well cast. None of the shortcomings are due to the actors.
The reference to the Rakatan Empire caught me so off guard.
The original KOTOR really was a top-tier Star Wars experience
They are remembering the vast universe they are actually in. Promising
Same!!! I was shook. so cool!!!
I loved the mention of the Rikattan invasion, like thats OLD legends lore. But so important to literally everything star wars- the force and kyber crystals, the jedi and the sith.
Am I the only one that has enjoyed seeing all these new characters in Andor? It feels like in every SW show now they needlessly add character cameos from the same cast of characters we have seen a million times before. I for one am happy they really haven't done any of that yet and hope that they continue it throughout the rest of the show
Exactly, and even if Andor himself is not an 'original character' rogue one was so good it still feels like seeing him as one
I am much more interested in andor and that heist mission, aswell as where syril Karn's story is going to go. They are setting both of those up to be fantastic. That heist is going to hopefully end up being a visual spectacle. And the story of karn hopefully a great piece of character writing. He failed and messed up so bad trying to capture andor i want to see what he does next.
@@TheBenjaman oh yeah, i feel the thing I'm looking forward to for next week is purely the visual spectacle that should be the crystal sky. If done how described, it should be absolutely incredible
They are done right. They have real motivations and agency. What happens to them isn't just for the plot, rather their choices lead where the plot goes. It's not just meeting random people who conveniently have information you need. It's refreshing when compares to the writing in the Sequel trilogy
@@TheBenjaman I like that Karn isn't just a bumbling idiot. He was good at his job, but he was naive, not experienced in the field and a bureaucrat who wanted to do more. His inexperience and eagerness ended up blowing up in his face and getting people killed.
E4 was layered deep in Legends canon lore and really showed the differences between how the empire works off social climbing and the rebels have to depend on each other with trust. Amazing personalized episode diving deep into characters fleshing them out as very real people we can understand. I really like how Luthen had to practice to pretend to be this nice and jovial character running his store front.
This episode was the best Star Wars in years. Truly attention to detail in every way.
Him standing there alone practicing his smile and remembering his character uses excessive hand gestures when he speaks was amazing! It’s the small details the make the biggest difference, I’m loving this show

Now we need spin-off: Daily life in Luthen's Shop. A little stories of each relic Luthen has.
Was not expecting a "Darkside Story mode" Starkiller statute cameo in Episode 3. A suprised to be sure, but a very welcomed one. Luthen's house/museum artifacts has sooo many easter eggs potential like the Mando armor & "Plo Koon's" like mask. Definitely looking to future Andor Episodes!!!!

Now we just need a Starkiller hallway scene with his scary ass sith stalker breathing.
@@tuqaridha4821 Mando isn't the only one to have that armor. All Mandalorians have that armor. Some are painted, some are not
It's just a statue, how does that actually do anything for the story or the show? And is that really good enough to satisfy people when there is no good story to the show?
@@draconianemanations2785 People in general seem to be liking the show. please explain how the story for the show is bad
The amount of easter eggs in Luthens shop was awesome I didn't even notice half of them because they looked so different. I noticed the Mandalorian Armor, and also the Mortis hands from Rebels but nothing else, that was so cool!
I think the Star Killer helmet may be foreshadowing his arrival since in the Kenobi show, one of the names written on the wall of the Jedi survivors in episode 4 was Rahm Kota, so he is definitely canon, which could possibly mean Starkiller is/will be canon at some point in the future
👀🚬🗿
Regardless, they better cast f'n Sam Witwer dammit.
@@LetsGetitBoah yes please starkiller is literally my second favorite character of all time
@@LetsGetitBoah no one else can do that character justice. if he doesn't appear in tv / movies maybe a 3rd game is being made - fingers crossed.
Isn't there another copy of the same armor in Luthen's backroom? So I thought it is just supposed to be some ancient armor and they used the Starkiller helmet design as an easter egg.
I liked the scenes with the ISB as well, the way the Major describes what ISB does reminds me of how Keeper explained what imperial intelligence does in SWTOR. They’re unglamorous elements that stave off problems as quickly as possible. I’m also interested to see how this mission Cassian is on relates to the bigger picture.
Finally someone caught that! I loved how Keeper refers to Imperial Intelligence as “sanitation,” cleaning up the mess of the Sith. Whereas ISB are “healthcare providers” eliminating disease in the Empire.
The meteor shower is probably the light show we see Cassian flying through in the main trailer

Totally get what you mean about the set design, its amazing the sense of place they've managed to capture. Kind of bewildering to see the difference between the sets here and the ones in Kenobi though. Like I get it was mainly set on a desert planet but still
I didn't catch the Starkiller egg, but I was watching this episode thinking the whole time about how I loved the world building, seeing inside the Imperial war machine, ISB, etc... just amazing to see things I have read about in the books for half my life finally on-screen
I loved this episode. I've always been interested in the politics of the galaxy under the Empire and what average citizens were up to/what their lives were like. This peek behind the curtain of the inner workings of the bureaucracy of the Empire is great. We're starting to see how no one within the organization trusts anyone else, everyone is clamoring for a bigger piece of the pie so they can climb up the ladder, etc. Seeing Mon Mothma at home? Yes, please. More of that. Let's see what the senators are going through, how they're watched by the Empire, the insane amounts of stress that the "good" senators are under. I want to see the utter turmoil that the galaxy is in under this regime rather than just the blanket statement of "the Empire is evil". I'm hoping that this series as a whole shows that nothing is black and white, 100% good or 100% evil. There are always many sides to a story. Understanding all of the sides will just enrich the overall lore exponentially.
That Starkiller statue was so shocking, even if its just an easter egg, I'm contended that StarWars showed his look, especially his helmet. Then again its like saying that they won't forget about him which is great.
Star killer isn't canon and he never will be
@@nash92 relax, he’s a cool character.
Loved the episode. I was worried when I heard the director wasn’t too fond of starwars. But he’s earned my respect. He seems to take his work seriously and trying his best to stay true to the source material.
Excited for the rest of the show.
To be fair, those are honestly the directors I prefer sometimes, as they may not like it but they can see how much others do and aim to do it well.
And also, when you live a franchise and do a film for it, you will inevitably start including your own ideas for it that may go against what others think etc, but when you're not a huge fan you don't really have those issues, you just work with what you have and do it to the best you can
Him not being a fan is probably the main reason this feels like an actual show and not a fanfic
@@mastere6115 that’s a good point. Hopefully we get more of his work in the future
@@BlazerManiacNumber96 agreed. It feels the most grounded in the Starwars universe. More so than Mando.
I think not being a fan of a franchise can be a good thing as it can bring a new perspective to it. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. Andor is a case where so far it appears to be working very well.
Just finished the episode! Amazing tension being built up
You skipped a detail when Luthen is handing over Andor, he states that he's basically a disposable crew member... the plot he and his new 'team' create suggest Andor will be going nearly alone (or should someone be sacrificed, it would be him), on this suicide mission
But why would he give him his expensive kyber necklace if he knew he send andor into his potential death?
Especially after going through the trouble to get him in the prior episodes.
I think he more so said it to ease her into letting him into the group.
Its not like lying has been a thing in this series.
You’re a good kid tbh. Stay in school 👍🏿
He says that because he wants to sell the idea that Andor is worth less than he actually is
He definitely doesn’t want to undersell him, if anything it’s because truthfully all andor has at the moment is potential. He’s got some experience in espionage and is clearly a pretty smart guy, but that’s it. Saying he could serve as a replacement is honestly probably quite true to his actual abilities
@@TheBenjaman maybe to make him feel important enough to do it?
The look, sound and overall cinematography of Andor is just several orders of magnitude above anything else on D+, this was the sort of look and sound and just money and care put on screen I was expecting from Obi-Wan...
edit - also, no way Luthen has both a Sith and Jedi holocrons and neither Vader nor Palpatine has pick those up, perhaps it just the housing
Non-Force Sensitives can't pull those things apart without destroying them. Only Jedi, Sith, and powerful Force users can unlock them. Luthen definitely keeps them shits in the back incase any Inquisitors or spies come waltzing through the front door.
I think the Security dude is going to become a spy, looking to prove himself loyal to the Empire, maybe even hoping to get a pretty sweet promotion from pretending to be a rebel.
now that'd be refreshing; a double agent that cripples the rising Rebellion
Ep 4 has brought so much happiness to me. I feel so good about SW again for this first time in agessss! Absolutely cannot wait for more!
You feeling excited about star wars definitely shows in your content. These breakdowns are the most fun I've ever had watching them because of all the interesting things that are churning in this show and I am super glad that you explain all these things with such a fun tone. Also I miss like all the easter eggs when I watch so this is a good way to see what I've missed.
This show feels like a must watch series! Absolutely love the acting, the editing, the sets, the story and shots are all just soooo well done!
Totally agree. This rivals even Mando. Some parts are even better!
Luthen's character is intriging as he is obviously highly placed in the hierarchy of the budding rebellion. Andor has made my year...as we both see and visit within the mighty ISB. Loving the interplay of internal workings in the agency as well as the education of 'what we do'. Tarkin and Gideon would be proud. As M. Fruit states, I too am loving the character development. Thanks for all the Easter Eggs.
A meticulously written drama in the Starwars universe. I love the action in some movies but this feels like reading a great novel I can relax and just take it all it as it slowly builds up.
I love this show so far. The insight into how the Empire works is something that we have never gotten in this much detail before. Rogue One gave us a glimpse but this is going deeper...love it.
The infighting between the imperial officers is just great.
Understanding how the Empire deals with different regional and local issues is great.
This show is awesome. The production value, the acting, the writing, the direction, everything is elevated to anything I've seen before in the Star Wars universe. First time in a long time I sat there watching and giggled to myself on how everything is so good. This episode was great, I hope it continues.
I love how much we're exploring Coruscant in this show, its by far one one of the best star wars planets
Dude! The lore that is happening in front of our eyes is insane! Super loving this show!
i’m so excited about this show… feels like it’s taking it’s time to develop everything in all the right ways and as it slowly opens up i have become more and more impressed! looking forward to the rest of the season and series
8:30 The Easter Eggs were beautiful. Obi-Wan Kenobi the series was missing something like this. The Starkiller helmet gives me hope that Sam Witwer will make an appearance as Galen. He may exist in this universe. Yay!
No, he will never be canon, even if Disney makes it so, he still won't be, because Disney star wars isn't canon
I'm so happy with this show so far. I'm actually excited to see a new episode each week imagine that.
It would’ve been really nice if they put this much time, effort, and budget into Book of Boba and Kenobi. Maybe if those shows get 2nd Seasons, give them to Gilroy instead and give them 12 episodes. I’m liking this show. It’s refreshing and unique for a Star Wars show, especially a Disney show. Feels more like an HBO show. Can’t say that I love it, but I’m definitely enjoying the ride so far. 8/10 for me so far.
Literally looks like HBO
Honestly that was so sad, coming out of mandalorian season 2 along with bad batch(or clone wars season 7 forgot which came before book of Boba fett) and just having to kinda sit through some of those episodes/scenes for both Kenobi and Book of Boba Fett. AND THEN you get those two episodes about Mando and they're more well done then any other episode in that season
I really enjoyed this episode. And I do feel for Mon Mothma, you can tell that she's not enjoying a comfortable life a the capital at all. Spies everywhere and she still managed to help build the rebellion from scratch.
A really underrated character.
Love the show. Love the slow build. The different looks at other aspects of the star wars universe, characters, etc. Need more shows very much like this!
This was definitely the best episode and the way its set up the rest of the show is promising. Only 33% the way in so let's of story left to be told.

@@TrulyUneek you need to understand how storytelling works, you just want everything thrown at you quickly, you clearly have a short attention span but it isn’t your fault, you must be used to watching very linear MCU storytelling

TLDR: You’re an idiot that doesn’t understand my pov/original comment. Andor is boring for 3/4 episodes and tries really hard to be different and edgy. episode 4 of andor was really good star wars for 45 minutes.
you fucking moron that isn’t my point. my point is that the first 3 episodes try to be something that isn’t star wars (hint: everyone comparing it to bladerunner) episode 1 first 5 minutes solid with the bar/club and cassian killing the czerka ripoffs was true to his character. then we get this lame ass over achiever that’s our antagonist for the 3 episodes that poses no threat to cassian since we know what happens. bix boyfriend ratting out cassian is stupid. showing cassians past as a child speaking a language with no subtitles is stupid. seeing him break that CIS ships computer because he saw himself in the mirror stupid. episode 3 where people say “it got great” “it’s peak” that was pathetic since our overachiever gets pushed around by fat old scottish man and they lose. episode 4 was good until they threw in some imperial sexism that never existed before until now in 2022. either way i don’t give a shit if a star wars project has lightsabers or the force. i just don’t want it to be boring and tries horribly to make it “edgy” or more “adult” by saying the words shit and bastard.
This show is legitimately everything I’ve wanted to see in Star Wars, and it’s going further in depth into exactly the areas I’ve always hoped to see. Insanely excited.
I thought the ISB scenes really captured well how the canon Thrawn books already set them up as this kind of every man for themselves, ladder-climbing beureaucrats. Similar to what we saw with Pryce.
Thank you Star Wars Theory for pointing out Easter eggs I would have missed entirely. Especially happy to see Starkiller's Sith helmet although it looks a bit different from the videogame. Maybe on purpose/making it in real-life is challenging?
i really don’t want any ridiculous cameos in this show
i just want a grounded story that feels self contained
I would like for starkiller to be canon but I don’t want him to make a cameo here and have it feel shoehorned in
While I love the more fantastical, action packed grand adventure framework in which Star Wars is usually presented, this show, more than any other Star Wars property, makes Star Wars actually feel like a real universe. I love how we follow characters from different parts of the setting, from rebels, to corporate security, politicians and Imperial intelligence agencies. And how it delves into parts of the universe that have just been alluded to as part of the set dressing in earlier movies and shows.
You are a true Star Wars Lore Master, SWT! Thanks so much!
Thanks for another great video!! I was so excited for all those Easter eggs
4 episodes in and a very nice consistent tone. I hope it slowly brings in bigger characters and expands the scope to bigger characters at the end of the season.
This is where the fun begins.
But for real, this show is great!
At first I wasn’t sold on Andor, but now I’m hooked! The 4th episode really took us to a place we haven’t been.
Hey Theory, have to say I was pretty nonchalant about this show initially and decided to give it a go last night and watch 4 episodes. I was really impressed, loving the look at the inner workings of the new empire... looking forward at what's to come.
