  • Disney has officially announced the closure of their Star Wars Galactic Cruiser Hotel at 5000 for a few nights. This sequel trilogy themed 'experience' hasn't done as well as they probably imagined. Here are my thoughts on how to open an extremely successful hotel after this failure.
Thank you for watching today's video. I hope you have a great day, and I'll see you in the next one! May the force be with you, ALWAYS!

Disney should create an experience which gives the option to become a Jedi at a Jedi Temple, a Sith at a Sith Temple, or a Bounty Hunter at a Bounty Hunter's Guild School. Each will give a totally new and unique experience that will for sure make fans of all ages (especially kids asking their parents) to go to the next experience, which is a completely new price, rooms, etc. Encompassing all eras of Star Wars is the way to go. Please be inclusive, Disney, and let all Star Wars fans enjoy and in turn you will never have to shut down a bad idea again.

Disney is not doing well as a company right now at all, Disney+ is actually losing them money. They keep making lazy remakes of movies with just a minority actor in the lead role, it’s more insulting then anything, can’t give minorities their own original stories, just going for the quick easy buck with the race swap. Plus this 5k Disney hotel, crazy they think the average fan could’ve afforded that. They also had plans to build some massive project in Orlando but canceled it and blamed desantis for it, truth is they’re cutting 5.5. Billion in spending, they aren’t broke yet but they can’t keep this up. You can’t keep losing 100s of millions on movies and projects and survive.

What's so mind-boggling to me is that as much as Disney markets themselves as such massive money-grubbing capitalists, they cut off 66% of their target market by using only sequel-trilogy-exclusive content themes for the hotel. On top of that, they blacklist people like Theory who can make content 1000x better than them with a handful of people and a notepad of ideas. And now it's going under. Each tower fully themed of course but also having its own unique star wars attractions e.g. Endor has a huge forest jungle gym, Tatooine has the original bar with the original band (animatronic or live actors) Death Star has a massive high class restaurant where Vader and the emperor stride through intermittently.

On another note: We went to Galaxy's Edge at Disney World this summer, and I have to say I was pretty bored walking around looking at stuff. It was sad to me, because I love Star Wars, and am an OG trilogy fan since 1977. They could have made this awesome and interesting. Meeting Chewie at Launch Bay and seeing the ship models was far more interesting to me than the Galaxy's Edge garbage. While the Resistance ride was loaded with uninteresting sequel trilogy stuff I had no interest in, the illusion of being transported off-world was very impressive. I enjoyed seeing the Millennium Falcon and riding Smuggler's Run. I got a big kick out of that. Sad story: I felt like Rey was only focusing on meeting with girls, and pretty much ignored any boys that wanted to meet her. My son was up next to talk to her and get a picture, she broke away from talking to a couple of girls, left my son hanging and walked to the other side of the section we were in to talk to a baby that wasn't in line to see her, and then she left. I felt bad for my son, and that really hurt me as a parent to know my son was ignored, but I flipped the script for my little guy and played it like he was protecting Rey from the First Order who was showing up shortly after. I guess the Force is Female at the parks.

I also can't stand what Disney has done to the franchise but since I first rode Star Tours, I dreamed of a "Star Wars land" and I saw it in a drive-thru AND indoors during the first re-release. I'm an OTF too, but Disney trips are what you put into it.

Disney already laid the groundwork for how they could tackle doing a Star Wars themed vacation package over 40 years ago (at least in terms of the approach of basing it on multiple classic locations from the movies), and they just ignored it!

I stayed there last June with my nieces. It wasn't really a hotel so much as it was like going on a cruise ship. We had a great time. They fed us. They entertained us with live music. They docked the ship and let us out to explore the mainland (Galaxy's Edge's Batuu). It should have been marketed as a cruise in the Star Wars universe, not as a hotel. We hardly spent any time in our room, which was small. It was just a place to sleep and shower. The biggest problem, as anyone and everyone will point out, was that it was based on the Disney sequels, which were demonstrably terrible. No Luke Skywalker. No Darth Vader. If they had themed this on the original trilogy it might have worked. There was an engineering room much like an escape room. They had a running storyline based on the First Order and, spoiler alert, Rey and Kylo Ren showed up. When I left I thought, "There's no way this will survive the test of time and I'm sure it will be gone in a few years unless they re-theme it." Long defunct Disney attractions take on a legendary status after they're gone, and I'm glad I got to experience this in all its glory and inevitable doom.

There’s a wall sized screen as a “window” and for whatever temperature you have the thermostat set to, it’ll go to a corresponding planet (I.e. prequel trilogy goes to Mygeeto if it’s cold, Felucia if it’s hot) and you can set it to randomly select a hot/cold planet from that era. As the fan kicks on, the screen shows you taking off and jumping to hyperspace. Maybe it lands you near a battle and you hear some ambient battle sounds in the background, or just the sounds of the local fauna.

Ya know there was a play center before that was constructed as a small town filled with tiny buildings for kids to go to and pretend to hold a job of various trades to run a little community. Could do something like that for an area that can let you take on the various roles you mentioned(Jedi/sith temples, a guild, recruiting centers to be a rebel or imperial, etc) could even have a legit cantina with an animatronic band playing every now and then.
    UPDATE: it’s Kidzania

    What was so difficult?
Make a hotel, design and craft star wars decor. Stormtroopers statues, imp officer staff dress.
Main foyer for arrivals looks like space port. Off foyer are Transition rooms, mini cinema/ride which 'transitions' you to your planet of choice (brief flight experience) - Kasshyk, Kamino, Star Destroyer/Imp Station, Coruscant. Room themes.
Have another Transition when leaving hotel and outside can be mixture of environments, Tatooine, Kashyk etc.
Transition rooms could double as Cinema or communal TV rooms when not being used.
The only 'excess expense' in all of this is Transition rooms, which is why I suggest making them multi-use and prevent it pricing it out of the vast majority of your audience.
There was nothing in the hotel which justified the price tag. Felt like they were trying to pay for the investment in first year.

And maybe the suite experience could end with their bounty hunter career "retiring" and if they were ever to return their leftover credits could be maintained etc, incentivising the diehard disney goers to make repeat trips to get the "full experience"

They had multiple activities throughout the evening. One of the really neat things was a “scavenger” hunt to figure out the combination to a safe in the room that had a small Lego kit in it. I do not know what the Disney package included. The passes for the park are quite expensive per person per day. This would obviously be a factor of the price. What is the cost for a few nights at other Disney resorts? What is included in the package?

    • @eugenelane9802
      @eugenelane9802 Год назад

Honestly, I don't think different settings or story lines would have made a significant difference. I think the biggest problem (besides the price) is that everyone always says that they want these "immersive experiences" because they want to be the kind of outgoing people that enjoy immersive experiences, but when it comes down to it, most people would prefer to be entertained rather than be a part of the entertainment. Personally, being pulled out of the crowd and asked to participate in something like that, does not sound enjoyable at all. The concept of a role playing experience itself (regardless of how well it is executed) creates such a big risk of spending all that money to have an awful time if it turns out you are not that kind of person. It is one thing to imagine you are a rebel pilot while doing something like fighting a battle in an x-wing simulator for 10 minutes, but something entirely different to feel compelled to act like a Star Wars character for nearly 48 hours. So you are already taking something that would by nature only appeal to a small audience and making that audience even smaller because of the price. Unfortunately, the labor required to run an operation like that probably makes better pricing virtually impossible.

The weird thing is I mentioned this for an assignment for my Uni course. The assignment was to make a presentation about Disneyland (one of the sub-categories was theme parks), so I decided to do it about Galaxies Edge and mentioned the Galactic Starcruiser and how expensive it and how it's not really a hotel but.... an experience. I just find it odd that I talked about it only for it to be set to be closed a few days after I completed that assignment.
As for the Galactic Starcruiser on it own.... I feel they messed up with it, too much money, especially for those outside of the US, like myself, and the era I feel doesn't really suit it as I'm presuming it's set between TLJ and TRoS and I just don't think that's a great time to set it as there seemed to be a lot of conflict in that time. Where as I believe it might have been better to set it either during the Clone Wars (sure, there was a war going on, but people seemed pretty chill about it) or the Reign of the Empire? That way, they could keep their little mini adventures where a Rebel Spy is sneaking around avoiding Stormtroopers. I don't know. The overall idea doesn't appeal to me, but I definitely think they could have done better.

I appreciate that Galaxies Edge tries to immerse you into the Star Wars experience. I had a great time on Batuu when I went last year. That being said, I would’ve loved to have different Star Wars time periods on Batuu. Imagine certain days, weeks, or months where Galaxies Edge took place during the Original Trilogy or Prequel Trilogy. Also, I don’t know if it is asking a lot, but I wish I would’ve seen some iconic Star Wars aliens around Galaxies Edge too. Maybe have just a few cast members briefly walk around Batuu as a Rodian or Duros (I understand a costume like that could get hot, but look at Kylo Ren’s costume they have walking around). I don’t know much about this hotel, but I do know it’s extremely over-priced. The space cruise ship vibe is cool, but they should be all encompassing for all of Star Wars. Again have different time periods of Star Wars every now and again. Other than that, your guild ideas are awesome, albeit maybe needs more refinement.

disregarding the gargantuan cost of staying at the hotel, you could not possibly, and by possibly i mean; by every single calculation in all scientific reality known to man, create a fully immersive SW experience, by having one section of the guests go all in on (absurdly expensive/out of stock) costumes, immersion, and general geekery, while the other section was dripping with Disney merchandise (on hotel grounds) and pampered A++ hotel mentality, ready with their smartphones to capture every scripted moment in this funtime romp fanfare.

I wonder if an actual Disney Star Wars cruise line would be a better experience, for still way less than 5k but whatever a normal luxury cruise would be. Still get to participate in any actual storylines and a great way to immerse the people in it as they kind of have to being at sea for days on end lol. Separating the rooms people that want to do rebel/Jedi/resistance on one half of the ship and the dark side on the other but most of it being interactable for story lines and maybe one designated area for confrontations. And they could change each full trip for a designated era or depending on size of the ship have two eras at the same time.
