This is honestly an incredible piece, one can tell you put a lot of dedication in what you do and the fact that you achieved such a beautiful painting using those hard-to-work-with supplies shows your quality as an artist. Loved it :-)
The first set of watercolors I used were similar to these, really inexpensive and chalky. They were fine, at first, but eventually as I improved or tried to paint something ambitious, I noticed that the paints would not perform in the way that I wanted and it really did become frustrating to paint things and do actual watercolor techniques. It is possible to make art with cheap art supplies, but some art supplies really do "fight you" in a way and it could hinder your progress with the medium after using them for a while. So I definitely agree with buying an affordable primary colors set if its possible for your budget. (Also yes, those Michael's coupons and Jackson's sales are so so nice when they are available!!) Kinda long comment, but yeah loved the video :)
You did a gorgeous job with these supplies, Sara. I definitely second your sentiments about using your money to buy fewer high quality supplies over a wider range of lesser quality supplies.
Ahh thank you Denise! That means a lot, I've been binging your videos trying to learn more about pigments and blends and all that good stuff! I want to be more meaningful with the supplies I'm using!
Reminds me of my old days with watercolor. I started out with a $5 36 color pan set, and I actually could say I made some pretty nice art with the set. I now have much more expensive tube paints and I still can’t seem to approach the same level of beauty I had with the old set! Sadly I had to stop using the pan set because it kinda expired and stopped working for me... granulated a lot in ways it hadn’t before. Although I want to make these tubes work for me! So I will do my best.
Your painting came out so beautiful despite the struggle with materials. I feel similarly on the topic of buying expensive art supplies vs buying supplies that are right for someone based on current needs. There's sometimes too much brand dependency or elitism in the art community. Like its okay to be a fan of a brand. I just wish more artists wouldn't go overboard, and start getting controlling over other artists about it. Something else I've kept is mind also is that some artists are kind of brand ambassadors for certain products. So I just try out what looks interesting to me, with my own personal budget in mind and tune out everything else I guess.
Their brilliant disc set is amazing. It is artist grade. The paint disc you have used here is student grade and does exactly everything you have said and shown. Although sometimes the look or feel of a painting is very different using less expensive supplies. It should not deter a artist imo. It would be interesting to see you try the Brilliant Disc set from Koch I Noor.

@@mariakilson5851 seeing as most good watercolors are forty dollars and over, it is inexpensive. I saved up for these on my own as a minor awhile back. For people in places like the USA Australia and the UK, it is inexpensive
I think you said something important, you don't have to compromise quality for price all the time. Sometimes it is hard to pay lower prices for decent tools but research and waiting for sales are a good way to stretch your coins.
one huge recommendation I have for paper/ sketchbook is the artway studio sketchbooks, they are around £6-£7 I think (idk what that is in USD) but the paper quality is pretty great and they hold my watercolours really well! Would definitely recommend if you want a cheap but nice sketchbook :)
The two sets of watercolors I own are an Artist Loft set (24 colors) which is $5 and a Daler Rowney travel kit (which I think has 10 or 12 colors) for $13. The jump in price really does make a HUGE difference, at least to me. I don't know how much you use markers, but maybe trying artist loft alcohol brush markers would be an interesting challenge. Loved this!
*A found a lefty friend!!!!* Love the outcome!! Your right, it doesn't matter if you use inexpensive or expensive materials, what matters it how you use them and the outcome you choose to show😁
Try the shinhan watercolor paints the student range is an amazing quality for honestly a price so cheap it’s hard to believe, I would’ve loved to have started with those instead of koi...
Could you try Winsor and Newton brushes and watercolor paper? As far as I can remember, they are inexpensive but I don't know if their quality is good.
I started with a £5 for 32 coloured pencil set from whsmith. Theyre not awful so i created some pretty good realism with them. Only last year did i finally upgrade to artezas coloured pencils😁
I personally like this little set and have used much much worse at the same price point so in comparison these are decent. I don't use them for anything I would consider finished though, I use them in my sketchbook so that I don't feel pressure to make it look good because I'm using my good supplies. What I've found is that they look better on paper that is not meant for watercolors better than they do on watercolor paper a lot of the time and even the more expensive paints don't shine on that paper. I wasn't feeling so good about the sketchbook I was working in so this was my way of saying "It's just a sketchbook I don't care it doesn't have to be beautiful" and just have fun. I've even dug out the paints I couldn't stand to work with because it was in a similar palette design and filled it with another student grade paint to supplement colors I found myself mixing a lot or was curious about playing with. For my purposes, it's all in how you decide to use them. They're by no means my go to palette and never will be, but they're fun to play with during warmups when I'm feeling in the mood to be a bit messy.
I love that! I think that's a really great mindset to have, and sketchbooks are so important to be free and experiment in, and using a good inexpensive art supply is really freeing if you don't want to feel like you're wasting good paint. I think my set is also super old because of how badly they reactivated, but I found it difficult to produce a nice, finished piece :/ I would reach for these if I'm taking a really chill sketchbook trip to the park and want something compact.
I really love how you've used these to create artwork that looks very similar and just as good as the more expensive materials you use. It's a really great reminder that you can create great art with anything! I love your videos so much it makes me happy to see you uploading more every week✨🦆
i personaly love working with cheap paints once awhile because of its "broken textures" and broken colors.. i think its fun to have some kind of variety in my sketchbook. something that is very transparent and faded(?). the result might looks ok for one or two days but keeping it for a long time is the biggest problem. they're too powdery and the color can fade even more..
Editing looks super polished, Sara! Really love watching the real-time footage. Would love to hear your thoughts on storytelling/concepts in your artwork vs just sketching for fun. Do you think it is necessary (especially as a RUclipsr/influencer) to have a certain amount of artworks that tell a story to outweigh random drawings?
When you said about experience s about primary colors, I agree. I'm not a pro artist but I will say that I've been into watercolors for a year now. Back then I preferred those watercolor with 24 or 48 color but after meeting expensive watercolors, I tried to save money by only buying the primaries and I didn't regret it, I love them. I looked at my old set and found out that most of the colors were almost untouched and only the primaries and black were used. So remember that you must save money by only buying the necessary colors such as primaries and learn to mix colors.
Love this piece! So beautiful for not the best paints. 😍 seeing a budget art supply video would be great! Maybe something along the lines of $30 budget and what good quality paper and/or paint that can possibly buy...?
Honestly, whether it's viable or not within your budget, just buy the high end supplies. It's an investment that at the end of the day yall gonna be thankful for, cause yall made the decision. Because I did that even though I am just newbie with art as of now and I am never happier. Because even if your drawing or your painting sucks because god forbit we aren't as good or born talented as these artists (yet; heccin im trying to be positive here xD), at least you don't feel bad and putting the blame on bad quality supplies. At least, yall know it is because you still need to improve skill wise. Which is okay because we are all learning. And like when yall are good like this, then yall can try experiment with inexpensive low end supplies cause yall have skill by the then. Just don't start with terrible supplies cause it's gonna demotivate you so bad ya don't want to draw or paint anymore lol.

It's always good to know an artists process and tools they use. You are very clear in this video
**laughs in brazilian, where everything you just used is 5 times more expensive and only the elite can have**
I laughed when she said inexpensive and the first brand out of her mouth was Koh-i-noor.
a única coisa q eu consigo comprar é a lapiseira xD
eu tenho esse mesmo kit dela há uns 5 anos, minha paixãozinha, eu sempre soube que não era profissional, mas nunca vi ele como um kit baratinho kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk cada k é uma lagrima
@@mariakilson5851 seeing as most good watercolors are forty dollars and over, it is inexpensive. I saved up for these on my own as a minor awhile back. For people in places like the USA Australia and the UK, it is inexpensive
ei, brasileira aqui tbm, chorando pq Koh-I-noor já é caro o suficiente!
I have those paints, I've had them since high school!
Yess please do a video about the watercolor cheap art supplies 😍
I am using acrylic colours but i see first time how can water colours be so beautiful . You done amazing job 🖒💟
I have these paints, bought them a couple years ago also and going back to them trying to get back into art, even swatching them was stressful
I’m sorry this piece wasn’t enjoyable to make but my god it’s stunning!!!! Would you ever sell this as a print? Because I’d buy that so fast!
Loved this!
*A found a lefty friend!!!!*
Love the outcome!!
Also Paul rubens has a cheap student range as well, I’ve not tried them myself but I heard they were a great student paint...
When you said you don't use a lot of lifting techniques, I was surprised because you said the opposite in your kuretake gansai tambi paint video.
Keep in mind that video is a year and a half old. Artist's preferences change over time and with their supplies.
In Liquid Color I know that! I was just simply expressing my thoughts (that is what the comment section is for lol)
Would love to see you doing this painting with some good quality colors
Could you try Winsor and Newton brushes and watercolor paper? As far as I can remember, they are inexpensive but I don't know if their quality is good.
I started with a £5 for 32 coloured pencil set from whsmith. Theyre not awful so i created some pretty good realism with them. Only last year did i finally upgrade to artezas coloured pencils😁
Your artwork is still very beautiful using that watercolour!!❤️
Great art! Very beautiful. Thank you for sharing.
i personaly love working with cheap paints once awhile because of its "broken textures" and broken colors.. i think its fun to have some kind of variety in my sketchbook. something that is very transparent and faded(?). the result might looks ok for one or two days but keeping it for a long time is the biggest problem. they're too powdery and the color can fade even more..
Ur art influenced me... Really..
Love thiss
And also I'm ur new subscriber....
Take love💟
that is such a cute watercolor set
I’d recommend Van Gogh watercolors they’re inexpensive and great quality
This masterpiece is literally so pretty. I'm in love with you're art style:)
Thanks for sharing your techniques and demonstration. I love your portrait artwork.☺️💕
wow
I really like the way you display the picture and the color of the work
great
I hope to see the latest videos from your channel
so cool ❤️❤️
Beatiful water color art ....
Your work is always so stunning, just so much emotion in your work! Love it!
I started with 2€ 12 dry cakes from unknown brands and I liked them at the time, they didn't make me give up on watercolors
I dont think these paints are bad at all. I have this set and I happily use it.
So incredible drawing !!! It’s beautiful !!!
Turned out beautifully
ive never seen the canson in my michaels. and i went there last month and i looked.
When I was starting out with watercolors I used the sprang watercolors. They were amazing quality for the price.
Love this piece! So beautiful for not the best paints. 😍 seeing a budget art supply video would be great! Maybe something along the lines of $30 budget and what good quality paper and/or paint that can possibly buy...?
YEASSS SOME BEATIFUL ARTTT
I really like the outlining of the piece
Daym this picture is so good-looking
Things I need
Paints✔️
Brushes✔️
Paper✔️
Washi tape✔️
Okay but did I forgot I need a talented hand...
OK Imma buy a new one
4:55 the layer on the water wouldnt be from pigment but most likelyfrom filler in the paint :3
I recommend cheap art supply Prang if you haven't not already used their watercolors
nice video~
for suggestion on art supplies: Royal Langnickel...? been using it for a while, but i cant tell if it’s just me or it doesn’t go well with my spiral bound 7”x10” Canson watercolor paper. I’ve noticed you use Canson as well, especially in this video and you make it seem like it’s pretty good.
Here Sara is using inexpensive art supplies while here I am looking at my art supplies that totals just above $10 😅
Water colour pad- $2.50
Water colour paints- $1 and $2 (both have 21 colours but vary in "shades"(if you could call it that LOL)
Water colour brushes- 10 brushes for $5.60
Mechanical pencil- $2
Marie's watercolor tubes are relatively cheap and decent quality
Jesus, you’re underrated. Your art is so perfected and meticulously crafted and I’m so sorry that you aren’t as popular as you deserve. As constructive criticism, I’d say to keep the commentary voiceover more interesting- maybe by following some loose bulletpoints or talking more about your process as you’re painting.
Omg wonderful so cute and realistic 🤩🤩🤩🤩😍😍😍👌👏
I love your artstyle!
I'm so happy I saw this 🦆❤✨Your color combinations are wonderful
Loving these art videos! Please make more drawings on procreate and digital art! Your traditional art videos are also wonderful :) just draw what you love!
Simply acrylic would be a good one for a cheap supplies video
Paper and brushes are key! Make sure to buy the best quality, your paint can be literal crap but make sure you paper and brushes are the most expensive and the best quality
prang watercolor is the best scholastic watercolor i’ve tried
Prang watercolors are good beginner sets
this is so beautiful!
Which do you like best? Watercolor or digital?
incredible result, look so delicate!
Can i ask how you do your highlights? Thank you for the wonderful video!
