@@jimena_agra im SO excited for this! I'm looking at the website for the brushes, and I was wondering what size the first brush you use on the video is? :o
I read somewhere that many of the Ghibli backgrounds were painted using Nicker poster color (since they had to paint so much they couldn't use expensive paint)
Nope, wrong. I've been the ghibli museum, so that's not true. They use Nicker poster color paint, don't think it's because of the price, but honestly idk. And you can check Kazuo Oga, he's the painter who's responsible for the majority of ghibli's backgrounds. (Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, Ponyo, Princess Mononoke, My Neighbor Totoro) There's videos of him painting on youtube. He also has several art books. Also, they don't use western style brushes. Or at least Kazuo Oga doesn't. He uses traditional Japanese brushes, which are used for Nihonga painting, similar to Chinese gongbi painting. (There are differences tho) Western brushes have hair that is quite stiff while Asian style brushes generally have hair that is very soft, and is designed to be able to create a larger variety of shapes with one stroke or dab. (Even watercolor brushes differ from Asian brushes) Oga utilizes elements of traditional painting technique to achieve certain effects in his paintings. The type of paint used is actually not as important (as long as it's not oil lol) These brushes however, are.....basically impossible to find in stores America. I have found them online, or at least ones that actually seem like they're good quality brushes. (Shipping is probably hell tho) I bought them in Japan, and the material is totally different from Western Brushes, and they are also quite expensive. (This is kind of true for almost all Asian style brushes) Most of the Asian brushes you see in stores in the U.S. are not good at all, even if they are sold in Japanese or Chinese art stores. But hey, you can have fun with the brushes you can find 🤷♀️
Chris Xue no one said gouache was the medium for the ghibli movies , they were just stating that gouache is a good medium to recreate the scenes due to the pigmentation.....
I love painting but it’s kinda of a love hate relationship cuz every time I start painting I think I’m not good enough I get overwhelmed and leave it half way done but your videos inspire me so much your amazing.

@@shreya446 I had this for years and I've only just gotten past it this year! (When using the HIMI gouache actually). I found that the less you try the better it gets. When I used a reference I used to try make it look identical and it always ended up terrible and I would give up and I threw out all of my artwork previous to this year. But when I started to think - rather than copying exactly, I'm just going to loosely do similar shapes/ideas etc. everything turned out a million times better. I started to do art for the enjoyment and found mediums that were more me, and the difference it made was insane! (and I've kept all of them since) Creating for yourself, for enjoyment rather than creating something that other people are doing or you think will impress others really makes all the difference, although it's easier said than done I know. I totally understand what you’re talking about, I’m new to gouache and I have such a hard time painting with it cause I’m a slow painter and it dries too quickly😭
But you can easily rewet and lift gouache, that's the part of it that's similar to watercolor. Wipe a moist brush on the paint then wipe it in a clean cloth , rinse and repeat. You can also look up how to scrub paint without tearing.
The prettiest two pages I’ve ever seen 😍😍🥰🥰🥰🥰 everything is sooo dreamy I love your style!! I usually focus on hyperrealism but I’m soo inspired to try this dreamy and pretty style, it just looks so warm!! 🥺🥺💜

it's so inspiring to watch you strugle painting some kinds of styles because when i see people paint only whatever they can, it sometimes makes me feel talentless but since you are SO talented as we know, it gave me another perspective to it by the way all of them look gorgeous
