I'm new to Trout fishing. Living in SW Oklahoma we only get stocked trout through the winter. This video has given me more insight than all the other videos I've watched. Great content. Definitely rigging up the Carolina rig today.
I feel as each state has their own style. I catch stockers with 3” yum dingers wacky rig with a 7’6 daiwa spinmatic ultra lite with izorline 2lb all the way or Sierra slammers tube jigs with an 8’ daiwa presso ultra lite with phenix 5lb braid main and 2lb izorline leader.
I haven't tried your bait choices (yet), but I've been using your "advanced" rigging for something over 30 years. Before the advent of power baits, we used floating marshmellow bait in white, orange and pink. We also used commercially available "salmon eggs" which were brilliant red. We used treble hooks, though, and the hooks had a wound spring on the shanks. The spring acted as a bait keeper for the marshmellow bait that was a thick paste. If you fish still water lakes and ponds, instead of floating your baits from the bottom, as your two rigs do, use a pencil float and tiny split shot to present the bait from the surface down. In addition to the feel of the bite, you then have the visual clue. I've also had success with the spinners you mentioned but, more than that, I've had some real good days throwing 1/8 Oz Kastmaster and Fiord spoons. Lastly, there are always the guys who ask what a bait is supposed to resemble. Fish, on the whole, are opportunist eaters- they'll eat anything they can. Hatchery-raised planter trout are fed pelletized food (think dog kibble) until they're released into the "wild". They aren't going to find pelletized food they're accustomed to eating and they have no idea what is or isn't edible.
Gonna try your "advanced" method. Looks like a great technique. I've also used trout flies (any sinking fly works) under a nickel to quarter size corky pegged with a 1/2 toothpick. An egg can be added for extra attractant but usually isn't needed. GREAT video. Thanks.
Bro, I call your rig the Frankenstein rig. My fly fisherman friends would scream 😱 seeing that Frankenstein rig for trout that’s why I will make a few to use and have in my fishing arsenal. Thanks 🙏 for sharing.
Morning. I used a modified version of your tip. I used 2 power eggs on a small octopus hook then tipped it with a honey worm, wacky rigged and a small glow corky to help really float it. Caught a pb 19.5 inch rainbow. The bite was super lite the line just went a little slack reeled down and popped it. Fish on. Was just dead sticking on a lake.
Just catching up on your vids..Thank you for explaining the slip weight rig.....I have been fishing newly released trout and they have been horrible to catch....i used this rig..and bam,,,,,,no I have time to fly fish and when that does not get them..this rig does!
I use a swivel snap like a 3-way and hang a dropshot basically from the snap at leader. You can go weightless and change weights to different sizes based on bait.
Just big enough to make sure the hook and bait float up. Corky's are pretty cheap. Grab a couple sizes and test it. Start small about the size of a pea. I forget the actual size, cause I buy corky's like once every 5 years.
My situation is a shallow creek (18 to 30 inches) with lots of wood and grass on the bottom. I can't use anything that sinks to the bottom, or I'll lose it. Would this set up work?
I put one of them little floats on my line here in Iowa and I didn't catch anything it just scared to trout away because they weren't used to anything like that
Unless they have been in the river or stream for year's, stockers have a crappy flavor compared to native fish. I'm fortunate to live in an area of Wisconsin that is loaded with class A trout stream's. We can keep both here and I usually only keep 10 fish per year. I like to smoke em.
Northern California here. Best tasting stocked trout we have is a Mount Lassen trout. Lake Amador also Carrie’s their own cutbows that are pretty good.
You are full of it! Power bait has worked for me for 30 years! My kids and I always limit out on opening day every year. I continue to use it with great results! I am going camping and fishing at a 250 acre lake next week where stock trout are abundant. I have no doubt that I will be able to catch them without issues as I did 2 years ago!
New subscriber here. Love your video with lots of great tips! We have a similar RUclips channel if you want to check it out, "Hunt and Gather with the Chatters". Thanks!
Great idea for spring season trout look forward to using your technique on stock trout. Thanks mr.James from Providence RI
Nice tips. Great description of why the rig works and advantages/disadvantages. Thanks!

Very informative. I'm really just getting in to stocked trout here in Middle Tennessee and have been working out what works best. This info will help.

Check out Trout Magnets. Discovered them a couple months ago and they're pretty effective on Alaskan trout.
Good video... I used your set-up and caught a few fish the other day when others weren't catching anything. It seems crazy... but works! Thanks!
Awesome. Yeah it's a weird thing for sure, but works well on those stockers.
Man I dig this video bro....awesome personality.....confidence..excellent knowledge...thank you for being a tru.

ha! I would only use this for stocker trout.

Great information nicely presented.

Nice! Thanks for sharing. Glad to hear the rig got it done.
Appreciate your content, mate. This was incredibly helpful and educational. Keep the content coming.
Great tips! My sis caught a 18" stocker using the white egg/pink worm in Dec 2020. Tight lines!
Nice! glad the info helped.
Local here also we fish at alton baker park also this is very helpfull thanks
Daverina7595@gmail.com lets go fishing
Awesome👌Very detailed. Good setup and tips

Thanks, this is a new technique, can’t wait to try it in Indiana
Excellent. It's simple and generally effective for me.
I totally agree, only buy the Berkeley Power Eggs. I guide on the White River, AR.
Excellent teaching video.
I’m gonna try this man. Thanks!
Finally a rookie like me can understand some 😎
lol. Good luck out there.
I grew up fishing live bait, what we found by the creeks is what the fish were expecting to see.
Dude I use a 6ft leader here In WA my whole life. Gotta get it up and out of the weeds here in the pnw. They are thick
dope technique man. thank you
Welcome.
What size corky would you recommend when using a #8 octopus hooks
Just big enough to make sure the hook and bait float up. Corky's are pretty cheap. Grab a couple sizes and test it. Start small about the size of a pea. I forget the actual size, cause I buy corky's like once every 5 years.
So basically a floating santee cooper rig because the floats not stationary like a normal
One 💯❤️there I simplified it
what size is the corky float andwere do you find them?
Awesome vid!
My situation is a shallow creek (18 to 30 inches) with lots of wood and grass on the bottom. I can't use anything that sinks to the bottom, or I'll lose it. Would this set up work?
Had to make sure this wasn't posted on April 1st. I'll still try this
Ha! The setup is ugly! I know. It catches those stockers though.
What are your thoughts on the small round foam floats vs the corky's? Do you think it matters. Hard to find corky's here.
For stocked trout, i don't think it will matter. The corky isn't even needed if the bait alone will float the hook.
@@PrestonMartin I just ordered some. Have a size recommendation? I have size 8
good info, thank you
What are those corkies called? Cant find any in that size and color
Can't find this / little corky/ in the stores... Maybe it has a different name? Thanks!
I put one of them little floats on my line here in Iowa and I didn't catch anything it just scared to trout away because they weren't used to anything like that
What size corky is bet for your rig??
Waiting for that upload of the 7.5 pounder
Ha! Did most of the editing last night. Putting a few more tweaks here and there and it should be ready tonight.
And Vid is up! Go check it out.
Do you Carolina rig a spinner?
Dude thank you.
Welcome. Hope you have been catching them.
Nice...
Where can you buy corkies online?
What size are the corky's?
What size of lil corky
I set it up wrong and still hit the limit!
There is no wrong in fishing. :) If the fish bite it, it's right.
Where to buy the corky
What are those corky things called?
Little corky, I believe? All the big stores carry them. I got em at bi-mart.
Lil' Corky Bait Floater
INSTEAD OF USING A CORKY DO YOU THINK USING A SMALL MARSHMALLOW AT THE BACK OF THE HOOK IS A GOOD IDEA ?? LOOKING FORWARD TO HEARING FROM YOU !!
Marshmallow melt in water after a few min. It can work just check your rig every few min.
It's called a Carolina rig.
Sent you an Instagram message. What size corkie, brand, color? Thanks. Preston.
Yikes! What is that supposed to resemble in nature?
Nothing. It's about what the fish will bite. Stocked trout aren't born and grown in nature. They live in a tank and eat pellets.
@@PrestonMartin OK, where do I get those trout pellets? Lol...
@@PrestonMartin LOL best reply!! So true!!

Man this is one of the worse video's i ever watched a 4yr old child would probably set up like you that is if nobody was there to give advice
Haha. This vid is years old and one of the first vids I ever did. Your 4 year old would probably catch fish then too. Have a good day.
