- [OK, OK, stop yelling at me! Im going to add Grier's 2-pt conversion to beat Texas... into the #2 spot, because nothing beats that 1994 Pitt game. ]
A totally subjective, no logic used, I-just-happen-to-like-these-plays Top Ten list of crazy endings to Mountaineer football wins that came on the final play at the last second..
Well, some aren't so crazy, but most ARE. Also, there's an Easter egg in there of an ending I forgot to label or take out.
All media are the property of their respective owners, which in this case would be Fox, ESPN, ABC, CBS, West Virginia University, Joe Nagy, and Funimation and Paradise Lunch for the song "Guns & Roses" from the Baccano! anime. (The cool sax music over the title cards.)
As others have said beating Texas AT TEXAS in 2018 by essentially scoring 3 times in a row then Grier throwing the horns down is the best in my 3decades of football!
Man I never realized how many times Josh Lambert won a game on a FG.
Yeah, he was clutch, should have been venerated like Woodside and McAfee.
@@ShroomKeppie Drives me nuts lambert went out the way he did. suspended came back then quit would love to know the whole story he should have went pro and excelled in the NFL!!
"Great list. A few others I remember: Phil Brady's fake punt vs. Georgia;
Geno Smith's comeback vs. Marshall; Pat White's run vs. Louisville in
2007"
"Geno Smith against Marshall? I honestly thought it might be in contention for one of the top 3 spots."
"Bad list solely for leaving out Grier to Jennings @ texas"
I really appreciate the feedback, and those were all great plays. However, the theme of the video was "games won on the last-second play". Brady's Run was epic, but we still had to run a few minutes off the clock. Geno's comeback at Marshall was another classic, but the 2-pt conversion only got WVU to overtiime, where Marshall's kicker missed a FG to give WVU the win. Pat White was a college football GOD, but still, that fantastic run for the go-ahead score was not the final play of the game.
Grier's 2-pt conversion run is worthy of inclusion though, so I'll re-edit the video. Maybe roll Lambert's three last-second FGs for wins into one segment?
I think the horns down should have made the list or at least honorable mention
Good catch. I even have a special video about transfer quarterbacks getting the job done that covers that game. I think I will have to re-edit this video.
Travis Martin I think it’s number 1
The only WVU game I've attended in 30 years!
My uncle is Gary Jennings’s
That win against Texas should be #1 on this list.
Love it. Actually, the last was the best! Anytime you crush Pitt at their home it's gold.
Will Grier’s game winning 2-point conversion run to win at Texas was a great one. Horns down!!
Wow,now I know just how long I've been listening to and watching the mountaineers play.LOVED IT!
The Zach Abraham Pitt game was fantastic, but 100, 200, even 300 years from now, Bill McKenzie's kick winning the 1975 Pitt-WVU game will still be the greatest last second WVU win of all-time.
Excellent video and it sure was great hearing the great Jack Fleming call the 1975 WVU-Pitt game with Bill McKenzie kicking the winning field goal once again!
Great list. A few others I remember: Phil Brady's fake punt vs. Georgia; Geno Smith's comeback vs. Marshall; Pat White's run vs. Louisville in 2007
This will help me get through this season. Thanks
It’s nice to see that ranking always beside our name on the scoreboard and old-school tearing down the goalpost, now we just have transfer portals and what NIL you can get
I love seeing myself in this video. I was on the field for the 2014 TTU game right behind the goalpost when the FG went through.
i remember watching that 94 Pitt game. that entire game was absolutely nuts
Old Frank beamer didn't look to happy losing to the old Gold and Blue lol love it !
Geno Smith against Marshall? I honestly thought it might be in contention for one of the top 3 spots.
Not even on the list???? Omfg!! That was one of the most epic comebacks ever!!
Yeah among the first 2 that comes to mind. Louisville Marshall. I mean we were dead in the water both games.
If you look back at the 2005 Louisville game, the onside kick was not legal but WVU got away with it. Football Gods blessed on WVU that game.
I was at the 05 game vs Lousiville best college football game I ever saw in person. My dad was on the 1975 WVU team that won the Peach Bowl and they had their 30 year anniversary that night. They picked one hell of a game to have it on!
Your dad was Joe, from Ravenswood?
@@rubytuesday9539 yes sir that would be him
I went to school at Fairmont and got to know a few folks from Ravenswood, some may have played with your Dad, though he may have been a couple years ahead if he was already at wvu in 75. Gary Blair, Mark Adkins, Roy Schwinsberg, I think were all from there. Don't think any of them stayed beyond their first year.
@@rubytuesday9539 Wow small world. He played at WVU 75-78, so he was obviously a freshman in 75. And yes he played with all three of them in high school. They were a year or too younger then him but they definitely all played together. Blair was one of my dads best friends until he passed about 15 years ago.
@@jonasjelich4576 sorry to hear about Gary. I remember we called him Spider, and he was a really good db, and a good dude too.
Hoping that Neal Brown teams will win some big games, and make your next 'list'! Former Morgantown resident, and fan of the team, city and state since 1968.
Oh how unfortunately wrong you were...
Nothing like hearing country roads sung by thousands of mountaineers
Love these, thank you. Glad I found your channel.
The NFL Films-style music on the very first game from the 70s was enough to keep me here the entire 20+ minutes.
If you love the old NFL music, check out the "Pat White Fifteen Touchdowns" video:

Man I miss Josh Lambert. We could always rely on him.
That 2004 Maryland game was insane the crowd went absolutely nuts when Henry caught that pass instant classic
OK, OK, stop yelling at me! Im going to add Grier's 2-pt conversion to beat Texas... into the #2 spot, because nothing beats that 1994 Pitt game.
I love the feedback this video is getting, and the suggestion for Grier's 2-pt conversion to be added to the list is a great one. But focus needs to be kept: this video dais about OMG! last-second wins. Danny Buggs going 69 yards with a punt for a winning TD as time expires. The kick to beat Pitt in '75, and again in 2009!
A game is always won by somebody on the last play. The stuff of Broehm on the 2-pt conversion try in the 3rd OT in '05 Louisville; Pat White taking a knee in the '06 Sugar Bowl (did anyone else wonder if Lynn Swann was ever going to shut up so that we could watch the game? Nearly missed Steve Slaton's 2nd TD!)
What I was going for was a dramatic, shocking finish to games: long punt returns; watching Penn State in '84 driving for what most of us figured would be a late TD to give WVU yet another last-minute loss, but then LARRY HOLLEY OUT OF NOWHERE! and the pick, and the game ending with 60,000 fans on the field and Joe Pa and his kids running off the field as the final seconds ticked off.
Anyway, I am going to re-edit this video, roll Lambert's great kicks into one segment and stick Grier in there, somewhere. I'll get to that right after I finish up my latest video, a nearly-45-minute epic on every 17-14 game the Mountaineers have played in. Why 17-14? Because many of our most glorious wins were 17-14 scores, and I thought that was worth remembering.
James Schrumpf how is will Grier’s win over Texas not an omg win?
Hey Jamie, excellent video. I got a notification and decided to watch it.
Hey Joe, been a long time. Hope all is well with you and yours. Things all good here.
I made this video a long time ago and forgot about it. I like to take my highlight videos and make themed videos, like this one. Got over a million views, not bad for just fooling around.
Good to hear from you.
@@ShroomKeppie Heading up to Mo'town for the Texas Tech game, another annual visit. Everything is good here and still love my trips to WV, especially now that I live much closer. Hope you are well too. Feel free to message me anytime you'd like.
1 of my fav from very recent years 21 season Halloween weekend doege keeps Brock purdy from beating us all 4 of his years.
94 Pitt certainly was the first one I thought of. One you didn't have that I thought of was the 2010 Marshall game.
Great video. Well done
How could you not include the Pat White run up the middle to seal the deal against Louisville?
Because there was still 1:36 left on the clock.
what happened to pat white and records that are still held and may never be broken?
Here is the video you want:

Seeing the Notre Dame-insipired uniforms in the first two parts against Maryland and then going to the current ones in the Texas Tech clip is such a jarring thing to witness....
Yes, Don Nehlen completely overhauled everything about WVU football when he arrived -- logo, color scheme, etc
We went from ND to Michigan knockoffs, go figure.
WVU official colors are old gold and blue. Not the yellow they've been wearing for years now. Just glad they dont wear the mustard yellow on mustard yellow they used to wear in the Pat White era those things were hideous
The last second goal stand against VT this year.
Only thing missing from this video is beating Texas with the Grier connection to Jennings then the two point conversion! #hornsdown #hailwv
Grier
I promised to re-edit that in, but I forgot. I'll get it done some rainy weekend. It's still April, lots of those to come.
That Boston College win, our fans stormed THEIR field, I've NEVER seen that!!
Best fans in college sports
Mike Bakers TD won that game.
great memories there
Lol Quarterback Johnston in the last play against Pitt is my dermatologist now
Be sure to let him know he's got the #1 spot in this video!
WVU VS TEXAS LAST YEAR???
Great video!!
Pat white to save the day in 3OT against UL has to number 1! (Should've showed pats magic to get em back in the game)
Alright I'll give ya the 94 game just bc I wasn't aware of the field goals and ex pt returned for points ....I was only 4 at the time lol
Love the video, but #7 has two clips, and #6 should probably be the missing #5.
Appreciate the effort, but Brian King's pick vs. VT far outweighs Mike Logan's pick vs. BC.
Can't believe I left the #2 greatest game in wvu football history at halftime I can't call myself a fan
Don't beat yourself up man, I mean, who knew?
Great list but you need the fake punt against Georgia in the Sugar Bowl.
It doesn't really meet the "last-second" requirement, as there was over a minute left in the game. But it is just so damn exciting!
Hell of a 33 yd. throw Chad Johnson made while on the run to beat Pitt in 1994.
gee being born 9/5/74 and living FERRUSO FOOTBALL FANATIC - I DO NOT SIT FOR ANY GAME!!!!!!!!!!!!! Gee is that why my dad went to HEAVEN the last day we played PITT on thanksgiving day!!!!! Hmmm = look up at the moonshiner - and SEE THE LORD SHINES HIS MOUNTAIN NEAR!
Lambert went from Hero to disappearo
Where is the Sugar Bowl fake punt???
That was indeed a great WTF! play, but there was still a minute or two to play, and Pat White picked up a first down or two afterward to seal the win. This video was for last-second wins, with either time expiring on the play, or mere seconds left.
I'm working on my next video, "Great Individual Efforts", and I can see Brady's Run will have a prominent place there!
#9 sounds like Mr Rogers music
Funny you would say so. It's the Joe Negri band, a local Pittsburgh jazz group that frequently played on Mr. Rogers' show.
@@ShroomKeppie lol, had a better ear than I thought! 😂
Wvu is the best let's go mountaineers
bk not making the top 10 is criminal.
rip chris henry man
Man that yellow in 77 that's not what i'm used to at all
i recall that 3yr old FERRUSO FOOTBALL FANATIC!!!! LOL!
I was at this game with my dad
Take me home country roads
the best ending is 99 vs VT
Wrong direction though! Also BTW, I wouldn't be so proud of the fact that it took a "miracle" for an 11-1 team to beat a 4-7 team. Thanks for watching, though.
So we gonna act like Will Grief doesn’t exist
I know, I know. I've got to redo this
Bad list solely for leaving out Grier to Jennings @ texas
Please get rid of that horrendous music between picks....And shorten the time you display the titles. I doesn't take 10 seconds to read one sentence.
The terrific reaction ultrastructurally back because panty connolly supply despite a bite-sized recorder. clammy, nebulous sink
13-9
