We make a last minute decision to travel to the most southern part of Ontario to enjoy some spring bird watching at Point Pelee National Park. For decades, Point Pelee has been recognized as one of the premier places in North America to view returning migrating birds in spring. The second and third week of May is typically the best time to see the most species and numbers of spring migrants, so we head to Ontario's most southern area for a few days of concentrated bird watching. Additionally, it's also a great place to enjoy the Carolinian vegetation and habitats that are only found here in Canada.

We’ll be driving to PPNP from Alberta next May… now THAT’S a far drive! 😉 Great video! There weren’t a lot of leaves on the trees May 10.

Some fantastic photos of birds. I've forwarded this to my mate who is a birder.

Very nice video, you have a wonderful knowledge of bird species! I miss seeing the red wing blackbird, Oriole, bluebird humming bird, etc, but we have Bald eagles and many sea birds instead.

Thanks very much. I would miss birds that I grew up with too but as you say, we make new friends in new places. When visiting England a few years ago I really got to like those birds and was sad to leave them behind. And then I think of all the birds I have never seen around the world. I guess we can only see so much in one lifetime.

What a big variety of birds!
I chuckled when you mentioned the long drive. It sure is. Would be nice to beam ourselves places instantly and avoid the long hours of travel.
    Thank you for sharing!
This is on my to do list this summer... I know you said NOT in summer but that's when it coincides with a Hamilton baseball trip.

Well you sometimes have to go when you can right? I’m sure it will be nice then too although I must admit I have never been there in summer. I guess I should do that sometime too. Yes I always detest the long drive but once you get there and get settled- especially if you have a few days, it is great just to relax, wander and explore.

I've not one, not two, but three 4500 mile round trips this year (23') for birding. Planning a 6000 miler next year, which will include the Northern US... maybe Point Pelee :) I know about long drives :)

Nice prothonotary warbler sighting! I have to make the spring migration trip to Pelee one of these days. Also I think I happened to stay at that same spot a month ago at Wheatley PP (campsite #82), but maybe the layout of sites is too similar to tell

Thanks. I don’t have the receipts right now to check but we were close to 82. I think we were at 74 for a couple nights and then moved to 62 for a couple if memory serves. Both in Highlands Campground.
