This is really yummy with yellow cake mix
Add corn just add cornstarch to your cherries and pre-cook them so that they're a pie filling consistency

As for the dark cherries in juice try inverting the recipe a bit. Put down the crushed pineapples, the box cake mix, the cherries (drain the juice) then add the butter.
For the cherry pie filling I think i'm going to try this as you did it except add some cream cheese between the cherries and cake mix. not sure if it will be good but I can try it. I have a 17 year old so it will be eaten no matter what.

I actually put a tablespoon or so of corn starch and brown sugar to all the liquid type of fruit and mix it before adding the cake mix and it achieves the same purpose as pie filling. This was so fun to watch. You'll are cute!
How many slow cookers do you have?…I’ll try this but with the yellow butter cake mix, regular low sugar can cherries in the syrup and no nuts.

I'm a dark sweet cherry kinda gal. A quick search - I thought I had seen it at one of my local grocer's - show that indeed there is a dark cherry pie filling and topping! Not heavy syrup but actual pie filling. :) There is one by Lucky Leaf (which what I remember seeing in my store) and Comstock brand is rumored to have one as well. A stick would be 1/2 cup, or 8 tablespoons.
Use a straw to drain the pineapple juice out I just drank mine
I have a question I have made this in the past and the cake mix still seems to be powder after a couple hours is there anything I can do to fix that
Are you using real butter on top?
Yes I am I cut it into chunks not like you guys but cubes
Try more like pats of butter so that when it melts it covers the whole tope of the cake mix. That should help!

No ,you don't have to use nuts. Like any recipe you can modify your ingredients to fit your needs. :0) Matter of fact, so someone added a cup of oats to the cake mix and dump that over her cherries.

Made this a couple of days ago only thing I changed (used what I had on hand) was I only had yellow cake mix and instead of a whole can of crushed pineapple I only had a half can so instead of squeezing out the liquid I left it in to make up for the other half of can I was missing, it came out awesome! And held together really nicely! Thanks for the recipe :)
