Capital One used to raise people with $300-$750 starting limits to $3000 after 6 months. This was several years ago. Now they do what you said in the video.
I’ve had a Quicksilver with a $3K limit for two years. Always paid on time… but, though I spend on it every month, it rarely goes above $100. I have other cards from other banks - Amex Gold, Platinum, Chase CSR with a $25K limit, etc. and a high 700s credit score. Cap1 has always refused me limit increases. Every once in a while, they’ll offer me a Savor One… but I let it slide by because of the three bureau hard hit they do. Saw your video and tried their pre-approval for fun. Approved… for a secured Platinum or a secured Quicksilver. I’ll contemplate how offended I am while I’m drinking at the Chase Sapphire Lounge in BOS tmrw. I think I’m in a bucket. Lol.
People sometimes forget the store cards. I was bucketed with Capital One for years. They would only increase my cc limit by $100 each inquiry. I applied for a BJ's store card (a Capital One product) and instantly got a $15k limit with great perks!
Been with capt1 for 3yrs perfect standing. Very little to no cli. One card is paid off for 6mos now. Now i went into there pre approval and the 2 cards that are offered to are a serious slap in the face. There about to kick rocks.
Just applied 2 weeks ago, score high 700's with no negatives, high limits on all cards but one and no late payments on any account since the beginning of my credit report. And i got a low limit savor one with no bonus🤮
Just realized I was in a bucket for almost 10 years and have already been out all in the same 10 minutes 😅 I had a low limit for years until one day I got a 3k limit increase along with a huge jump in my credit score.
All these things is like having a carrot dangling in front of you. This credit correction is just like the stock market to me. I’ll just say do what makes you comfortable. Just use the credit wisely. These scores will make you anxious, have anxiety and etc. Great video though Cal !!
@@calbarton CapOne has been taking a step back recently. The whole bucketing thing isn't the bank's only issue. The venture x just recently went through another devaluation, but this time, with its car rental perks
My very 1st card was the quicksilver card. Was approved for 3K. And then a few months later, they increased my limit to 4K. Then about 6 months later they increased it to 9K and I upgraded to the savor one. I did ask for an increase but got denied because they said my card usage is too low. Im like, okay. I guess I gotta use the card more. I just hope ill get to a 10K limit soon.
Data point: I got the savor in 1/24 with 1k CL on 11/01/24 I asked for a CL increase & they denied me & 2 weeks later I got a email notifying me that my CL was increase from 1k to 4K 😂 & I barely use the card(btw this was my 6th cc & my Experian fico is sitting at 753 with 3 & half years of credit history)
Today I requested a limit increase on my card. I’ve had it for 3 months and had a $300 limit on a Savor One. I was basically maxing it out and paying it off in the statement period. Today I requested an increase and I now have a $2300 limit so I really have no idea what bucket I’m in. I do have a 700+ score and did when I opened the card. I was thinking about applying for the quicksilver because I do have an offer for it. I also have over 30k in the bank with cap one mostly in a CD
I remember years sgo they just kept sending new preapproval notices and i kept accepting. They would never raise my credit limits but i had like ten vards ranging from 500 yo 1500 credit limits. So stupid. How often can you apply for other capital one cards nowadays?
I started out with a HYSA with C1. Recently, I got the Venture X as my first C1 card. Does this mean I'm in a favorable bucket? I'm hoping to grab a Savor (or whatever is the preferred version of the family after future announcements) next to maximize my return. I'm in the mid to high 700's FICO.
Capital one really sucks I don’t know why they closed my account I opened 4 2 for my younger sister and 2 for my option trading and employee not savings and for some reason they ended relationship with me just over 20 dollars I transferred and didn’t cleared 😑 and they are investigating for unusual activity 😑 like boi it’s all recent account
I have a 800+ FICO but had a previous relationship with CAP One and ended up disputing and removing the previous card. Will they bucket you because that or do you get a fresh restart with them?
Hello Cal. Got complex question. I got 5 CC 1. BofA Secured 500$ Limit 2. Premier CC 400$ - rubbish 3. Merrick 1100$ And 2 Capital One Quicksilver which are 300$ Lower bucket. Utilize is high. What will be your advice to close rubbish ones and wait till score go up and apply for good cards? Thanks
See if you can upgrade any of the secured cards to unsecured ones. Bank of America might just do it. Premier is junk and you should close it. If they deny you an upgrade, close the account. Continue to use the unsecured cards, paying them in full and on time every month. Six months later your credit score will be a lot higher and you will have many more options.
Honestly, I'm confused as to how Capital One does their whole bucket category process. I have excellent credit, I was approved for 10k on the Savor One card and 6 months later approved for 1k for their Quicksilver Card. I use both cards a lot and haven't received any credit limit increases. I guess it varies from person to person.
Why are you wasting your time & money on the inferior Quicksilver card? It only offers 1.5% cash back. You can get the Citi Doublecash card that offers 2% cash back across the board, and is part of the Citi family of cards, which I believe is much better than Capital One.
So I’m in a kinda strange situation based on what you say. I only got a $1000 limit but I was approved for the cash back reward from capital one if I spend the $500 in 3 months so does that mean I’m in a low bucket a medium or a higher bucket?
Spend that $500 quick. Gas, groceries, anything you can think of. Just be sure to pay it off in full when the bill comes. I believe I got a $150 reward when I first got my card from them back in 2016. I have the Savor One and it's a great card that I use all the time.
I did roll my eyes and closed the account. I no longer want anything to do with Capital One. But I did go through all the 14 sub pride cards that around there. Finally, navy fed USA a Take good care of me
I'd have to disagree with you on that! I opened up a Care Credit card in 2013, in which I was given a $7,000 credit limit. Because I document my milestones on my cards, I was able to get the following CLI's on said card. Aug. 2018 +$5,000, Nov. 2019 +$3,000, June 2022 +$5,000. So now my CL is $20,000 and I have the Care Credit Master Card so I can use it anywhere. Capital One sucks big time! I'm definitely bucketed on my account!

Denied a line increase for my 3k quicksilver, but was approved for 20k savor.

My first credit card was Capital 1 platinum, my second credit card quicksilver. You think I should upgrade? Which one let me know, please.

i went from 3k to 7k to10k in about 6 months without even asking for an increase. Had a really good friend who showed me the ropes.
Can u show us the ropes ?
They probably knew someone that works for capital one. That's my best estimation as to get a better increase.
