- On Inauguration Day 2017, the Presidential Salute Battery (The Old Guard) conducts a 21 Gun Salute in honor of newly sworn-in President Trump. The Presidential Salute Battery is a U.S. Army artillery battery that is part of the 3rd United States Infantry Regiment, the President of the United States' escort regiment. The battery renders gun salutes according to a customary order of arms which is 21 volleys for heads of state (including the President of the United States and former presidents); 19 for the Vice-President of the United States, foreign chiefs of government, and members of the cabinet of the United States; and 17, 15, 13, and 11 for flag officers of the rank of O-10, O-9, O-8, and O-7, respectively. The unit is equipped with eight 3-inch anti-tank guns of World War II vintage, mounted on 105mm Howitzer chassis. Each gun weighs 5,775 pounds and fires 75mm blank shells with 1.5 pounds of powder.

@@decadeca1000 21 gun salute with cannons is for dignitaries and for funerals is a 3 riffle gun salute (7 rounds each =21) it is often a misconception
@@decadeca1000 I think when president Trump signed that State of Emergency it forbids Biden from full powers. Heard he isn't allowed full intel briefings and codes, etc! Military in control? There's no way our Military is going to stand by and do nothing know the threats we're facing with China, Iran, etc.

you can see the one gun misfire about 4 times. thats why that 4th gun is there just in case one misfires , pretty cool

Well first, Germany and UK do have "misfires". The comment here is right about the 4th cannon being a back up for failures, however not every 21-gun salute has 4 present artillery pieces, except in the US where there have to be 4. Usually in other countries there are only 3 present, with two firing and 1 as a backup.
Its not really the cannon failing to fire, it's just the blanks themselves

I like how the backup cannon crew jumps in when there's a misfire of one of the main cannons. They don't miss a beat like clock work.

I just learned that apparently they use 3 guns at funerals (and for foreign dignitaries), and 4 at a presidential inauguration. Go check out how many they used for Biden's inauguration.

BTW, only reason why I say that is because this is the Virginia infaltry division.
American Not American't we actually never fire live ammo out of our guns. I’ve been in PSB for 2 1/2 years we only fire blanks because it’s to dangerous. We use 1lb of gun powder and nitroglycerin. We are part of an active duty battalion stationed at Fort Myer. Our mos is 11c (infantry Mortarman)
