Just bought my mc9 back at the end of April. I was having out of battery issues using 124 grain nato rounds about 3 times in each magazine. I took it home, polished the feed ramp, sanded down and polished the feed rail, cut the recoil spring a tad, and buffed the polymer edges where it was contacting with the slide. Took it to the range yesterday and put 200 rounds through it no issue. 147, 124, and 115 grain and the mc9 ate it all up. Hope this fix holds up.
I just got an MC9 and took it out to the range last week. Multiple light strikes. 1-3 almost every other mag. Ran same ammo thru my Rival S and my instructor ran the ammo thru his Glock no issues. I bought to be my EDC. I have sent it back to Canik for warranty repair. Will have to make the other mods when I get it back. I will not EDC with it til it has no flaws. Picking up A Sig 365 XL as a second EDC. I really like the Caniks and love the way the MC9 shoots. I just need it to perform if it is going to be my EDC.
I haven't had ant issues with my mc9 but I am going to do a couple of these things to make it run like butter. Best mc9 fixes video I've seen btw 👏🏼 Thank you for sharing!
I’m not going to make this very long but clip 3 complete circles off of the striker spring, 2 circles off of the ejector spring , polish the inside slider face. All are pretty easy. The ejector spring is a little tricky because the button that you have to push right in back of the plunger will spring out if you’re not careful. But those easy things completely fixed my Mete SC9. No more failures to go into battery, no light strikes and no stove piping.
I have two caniks because I shoot southpaw, and the price point is amazing. I have shot higher prices Firearms and had some of the same problems. Great information. I'll make adjustments when they arise, thank you.
I was looking at buying this gun. This video convinced me to cross it off of my list. I am not a gun expert. Would I buy a new car knowing as soon as I bought if from the factory I’d have to have it taken apart and corrections made and then reassemble it? I’d rather pay a little more and know that the gun I bought will work like it’s supposed to out of the box.
I have 3 Caniks. I’ve never had a problem with my Rival or my TP9 Elite SC. Only one I had a few probs with is my Mete MC9. After I trimmed a little off of the ejector spring and the striker spring. Gun is flawless. Runs everything now. Trimmed the spring after the first couple mags and now am over a thousand rounds with no issues at all.
I am not an engineer, if I buy something and it doesn't work, I am not going to start cutting and replacing parts to make it function how it should. It's getting returned. Good video however and nice troubleshooting.
Being that this is a Turkish manufactured firearm, the manual says to use 124 grain NATO with the stock configuration. The lighter recoil spring he mentions and links to will allow 115gr to run properly. IMO they should have a US model and an EU model, but it's a very inexpensive fix that will make your MC9 run anything and everything flawlessly. I absolutely love the MC9 for my EDC.
I bought one back in March and after 400 rounds I had the same recoil spring issue that was causing the slide to not go all the way back on mine. I fixed the recoil spring myself by cutting it with a dremel when it was overlapped. I also had century arms send me a new one. It's a shame though because I don't have full confidence in the pistol now.
I got the replacement recoil spring from Century after getting FTF issues during my first trip to the range about 30 rounds in and I filed down the frame at the slide. It ran fine the next time, but I’m occasionally having it out of battery, so I’ll probably try a little more filing, though it was pretty smooth, and then I’ll try your additional fixes now that you are backing up what that other guy said about the striker spring. You also have some commenters who have adjusted their spring lengths with great success. Sounds like Canik spec’ed the wrong springs and/or got some bad springs from their supplier. Thanks for this video!
Bought mine Nov. 2024- simply oiled the rails and took it to the range and had a dead trigger (out of battery) 1 out of 7 times. Cleaned it with Break Free CLP, and it went down to 1 out 10. Took it home, cleaned it thourghly with MC-25, oiled it with Lucas, and it went through 150 rounds of cheap 115g and 125g without a hiccup. So, know that it's important to clean these with a real solvent like MC-25 or Hoppes... Also be sure to take a pick and clean behind the extractor. Once you get the machine oil and whatever they sprayed at the factory off, and put a good gun oil on it, she'll run.
I had about 3 failure to feeds within the first 500 rounds. Since then I’ve had over 1,000 rounds through the gun without any issues whatsoever. Love the gun.
I want to love my MC9 Mete… The trigger is amazing and I shoot it well. That said, the fact that it had 8 FTRB in the first 125 rounds is a problem. Contacted Canik and they asked that I return the pistol. Sent it back for warranty repair. Received it back a month later with a red tipped recoil spring / guide rod assembly and a note that they fired 15 rounds without issue. At the range yesterday, 11 FTRB out of 228 rounds fired. So, I’ll be contacting Canik again this morning to determine next steps. Bottom line is that a brand new pistol, regardless of price point, should run. It is a tool and, sadly in this case, an inadequate one. No way I’d ever carry this MC9 at this point. I’d much rather have a pistol with a mediocre trigger that fires 100% of the time than to have one with an amazing trigger that functions correctly 95% of the time.
My MC9 shot flawlessly until 700 rounds, then the recoil spring overlap problem. New spring coming, but I doubt I will ever trust this gun for EDC again. I have full size and compact autos with 2500-5000 rounds with no such issues (probably should change recoil spring in 5k pistol), but I wanted a micro for carry. Will look for a more reliable micro auto.
I bought a TP9SA 4 years ago it was my first pistol ever and I LOVED IT . Decided to buy this MC9 first 200 rounds were flawless and now I’m running into a bunch of issues 😢😢 . It sucks man . Makes it worse that I got these Glock boys talking sh”t about my pistol 😂😂😢
I followed the steps that this good friend explained here and bought the spring. Today I went to the shooting range and out of 100 bullets none of them failed or got stuck. I recommend that you follow the steps that he explains here because it worked for me with the Canic Mete MC9.
People complaining about simple and fast ways to fix those issues!?!? I get it is a new gun and you shouldn’t have to make any modifications, but overall of this gun, from price range, fast trigger and all the good stuff….. fix this things was nothing! Great job on this video brother, very well done! 🙏🏼👏🏼
Update: Use ar bolt catch spring for the extractor, runs great. Thanks for the video! Everything was kinda standard to do on a rough pistol build except for the recoil spring and striker spring issue. DID NOT see that coming, but when I swapped the striker spring for the springco, I noticed a gouge in the striker spring that ate halfway through...this is only at 200 rds😮. I'm excited to get it to the range and see how it runs!
If you were getting failure to battery, cutting about 2 circles off of the ejector spring is a possibly the biggest fix. The ejector is pinning the cartridge casing too hard against the internal slide wall opposite of it. Mine specifically had a brass line marking where the rims were dragging against the slide wall. This increased friction, along with the other springs fighting each other, seemed to be the core issue.
Having failure to feed issues with my mc9 I'm gonna go ahead and do all the lil mods to get it running silky smooth ! Love this gun so I appreciate the video !
I also got a weaker striker spring for my Canik TP9SFX. Fixed it. It would sometimes be out of battery by a few mm so the the striker wouldn't reach the primer.
Went out again today and had 4 nose dives again, 2 were jammed up and I had to unjam them and the bullets were pushed onto the casing a little bit. The other 2 I just re racked the slide and it went through.
I agree with you taking taking a pistol Apart Regardless if you need to or not, it's good to do so because you get to understand the complete mechanics of a firearm and be your own gun gunsmith. I'm the same way with budget or pricey guns as well. Nothing is perfect. We make it work to our taste. Thank you for the video
I got a new recoil spring from century arms as it was haveing same issues wouldn't stay open after mag discharge. I just ordered the sprinco striker spring I hope it improves it even better just to be safe. Thanks for the video. 👍
You absolutely could, I’m just impatient and these were things I came across doing research and checking out the pistol myself. Lol. Thanks for watching!
Great vid…. at this price point I expect some quality issues, but my Untouchable 9 is approaching 400 rounds without a single issue, I’ll be watching the next 500 for issues….love the trigger and accuracy.
I have already contacted Canik and they are going to send me a new recoil spring. I already have the firing pin spring, when I get the new recoil spring I will change everything and I will go shoot it at the shooting range to see if it doesn't give me problems.
I did everything he explains in the video with the exception of the recoil spring since Canik sent me the replacement and today I went to the shooting range and made about 100 shots and I didn't have a single battery problem.
Good job, supper nice video! I have a MC9 and haven’t had any problems after over 250 rounds. I still think I will check each of these issues in mine anyway. Thank you
The striker spring has nothing to do with how rounds load into the chamber. It does however keep the striker from impacting the primer if you drop the gun. Don't mess with the striker spring. Polish everything! Especially the feed ramp, the rails, and if you look at the bottom of the slide, there is a section in the middle that slides over the rounds in the mag. Polish that to a mirror finish, part of a pistol break in period is that part of the slide wearing smooth to reduce friction that slows down the slide as it retracts and before it moves forward and picks up the next round. This will help the gun handle lower powered rounds that would normally not provide enough energy to push against the recoil spring. Please don't mess with the striker spring you could cause anything from light primer strikes to having the fire when you drop it.
Try out these mods before you give up on it! Mine has shot flawlessly, it’ll eat anything I run through it after making these changes. And the accuracy is on point! I’m at 900 rounds, I’m planning on heading to range within next couple days to do my 1000+ shot review, I’m loving this thing after doing these simple fixes!
Yep, if most buyers need to perform six (6) corrections on a gun to make it reliable, the manufacturer should take responsibility for making a faulty gun and recall it.
Ive got a couple hundred rounds through mine. 80 being hst 124 g and the rest were pmc bronze. To my surprise from all the reciews ive read i didnt have any issues. Ill hace to keep an eye on these things.
So I have the same exact mc9,, and was having my rounds nose diving on the feed ramp. Contacted Century Arms and they sent me a new recoil spring. So far so good except for 1 failure to feed,,,but I just re-racked it and then it fired. I still need to shoot it more to test but what is your opinion on what I should do? That could have been the blazer brass 115 g round but I'm just going to keep checking it
Thanks for the informative video. Have not had issues with mine yet (except for an extended mag, not sure why; 12 and 15 no issues). About 300 in, will watch it and see if any of your suggested mods are necessary. 👍
Thank you for the video. I have the same issues. I was going to give up on it but before issues I loved the way it shot. You give me renewed hope for this pistol. Never had issues with my other caniks. Been waiting for my new recoil spring. Looking forward to try your mods. How did you trim the extractor spring? Thank you again.
The only problem I have had so far is that when firing several shots sometimes the slide does not fully engage and when firing the next shot the firing pin does not hit the ammunition.
Literally bought this gun on 9/29 not knowing about all these issues and go figure, I put through the first 300 rounds or so and experienced failure to feed, extract, and battery. Also the magazine gets stuck sometimes. Wish I had seen this video earlier but guess I'm learning gunsmithing as a new skill 😅
Nice work. I hope Canik watches this video and updates it's machine work before any more of these leave their factory. Canik and Sarsilmaz have a good solid reputation for reliability and longevity. This micro 9mm should be no different.
That’s awesome! I’ve heard several people say the same, and then a ton of people who have the same issues I have. Not sure why, but I will say mine has been flawless ever since!
Update: I fixed the mag release button being super hard to depress by taking it out, polishing the sides, carefully sanding some of the metal of the retainer tab to shorten it, and squeezing the spring together to weaken it. Now my button is easy to push and the mags drop right out. I cut the extractor spring and polished the extractor hook, lowered and smoothed the polymer rails, etc.. I also cut 1/2 a coil off of the the large recoil spring. It would not go into battery at least once or twice per mag shooting S&B 124 grain FMJ and Magtech 124 gr. FMJ. I cut a tiny bit off of my recoil spring and now it is worse. It will not go fully into battery every time now, but only when cocked. After pulling the trigger the slide will stay in battery. That tells me the striker spring is too strong because, if the striker is not cocked, the recoil spring holds the slide into battery like it should, but cock it and the slide comes back a little and it takes very little force for the slide to come back a bit because the striker spring is pushing the other way on the slide. I have sent an email to Canik (or maybe Century, I don't remember) and I am also buying the lighter striker spring from Sprinco. Hopefully Canik/Century will do the right thing and send me the light springed version of the recoil system. I'm confident that the issue with mine is the overly strong striker spring. Now if I could just get my slide release to disengage more easily. It is very, very hard to pull that release down with my thumb. Sometimes I have to use both thumbs!
I really wanted to like this gun. I just can’t buy it with all these things to have to fix. The triggers on these guns are really good. Hope Canik will fix it soon. Have they even released any statements on this issue?
Just watched your video. The pin that you pushed down to remove the extractor, what is that called? Unfortunately mine went into the atmosphere, and I can’t find it. Do you know where I can get another one or even what it is called?
I’m using the hst rounds in my 12 round mag and they cycle through just fine. I went to switch magazines to the 15 round, and inserting the 15 round I racked back and the hst round did not go up the ramp. It got stuck. Would this be possible that I need to polish the feed ramp or would it be the mag or the rounds itself?
I own a Canik TP9SF and i have mo issues with it. I was going to buy the Mete and if i have to go through all these problem, i rather not buy it. I carry a Kimber Ultra Carry II 45 ACP, this gun is an amazing gun.
Bought one a few weeks ago, haven’t shot it yet. I’m hoping I don’t have any issues but something tells me I will because almost everyone I’ve seen so far with this gun has issues… all pretty easy fixes with the right tools if you ask me. I’m pretty sure I can do all that though…Thanks for the video, I’ll let you know how it all goes. P.s. I’ve watched that video about the striker spring the other day lol
Polished, new striker spring and recoil spring 400rds and still not reliable. Would not carry it, but have way too many quality edc's anyway. Sold it for more than I paid new tho, so no complaints..
So my follow up rounds are getting caught on the feed ramp do i need to clip the recoil spring or the striker spring? From my understanding the striker spring would only make it less effective against harder set primers?
Almost bought one yesterday had it in my hand then thought about the BS I went thought with the sfx I put it down. My sfx would fte 2 to 5 every mag . Canik sent me another recoil spring , no difference. Then I was told it has to use 124 grain bullets and finally after 500 rounds to just break it in it started working properly. I honestly love the gun now. But in the beginning I was making up curse words over this gun. I don’t need that in my life.
Hello--What is the Part # for the Canik After Market Firing Pin Spring(orange) for your Canik Mete Mc9,,,,What Website can I find it,,,,,,I CANNOT FIND your Link Anywhere--Thanks,Greg
I did all the fixes excepts polish the breach face and it would always have a failure to return to full battery always on the first clip then it would shoot flawlessly the problem is that i want this as my edc why does it have to warm up to shoot failure free? Can anyone help me?
Mine has been completely perfect ever since I made these changes. Ya, it sucks to have to do them, but I like projects and absolutely love the pistol! I’d say go for it!
@@NitroZ18Fishing Nice, thank you for the fast response? Question: I have done everything this video has mentioned and I am somewhat confident it will work, but when racking the slide, it is having out of battery. It feels like something is getting caught up. Do you know what it could be? I will say that I was sanding down the 4 areas and I do think I might have sanded part of the metal. Do you think ill have to polish the metal on the frame and do you think it is a good idea? I'm sorry in advance for all the questions, but you are the expert I can ask.
Check that extractor spring for sure, and make sure the extractor itself doesn’t have any burrs. also make sure your breech face is smooth, hope that helps!
Did you send all this information to Canik so they could solve these issues or did you just get one that was not quality controlled that well. Will be getting one in June along with my TTI
Man it’s such a faulty design. I’m looking into my first EDC and the Canik mc9 was probably going to be it, until I started seeing a lot of these issues. And maybe for you, you might have addressed a lot of these issues but you really had to go above and beyond just to have this gun functioning properly. Just wondering if since you’ve made some adjustments, is it running smoothly without any issues?
Seriously Canik needs to fire their design people and hire you..I shouldn't have turn into a gunsmith to get a brand new gun to operate correctly..this is ridiculous even a $150 hi-point doesn't require all this..having to purchase dremel tools and attachments you might as well spend the extra on a 43x,hellcat,p365 etc.
I made a huge mistake in buying this POS and I highly suggest to everyone watching go buy anything except for Canik. I have had nothing but issues with feeder, jams etc. I can't even get through 1 magazine without a jam, in fact I get at least 3 jams per magazine. This gun is nothing but junk !
I'm not spending money on a weapon that requires repair out of the box. Maybe they should spend a little more money on the weapon and a little less on the "accessories."
I feel like the original problem was caused by your son and his grip. He’s new to shooting and the gun has a good amount of kick. He was limp wristing the gun and that appears to be the only time it happened on video.
Wow, thanks that was really helpful. I just got an MC9 today and had the "not going into battery" issue big time. I definitel needed to file down the plastic by the rails. I am going to shorten my recoil spring and extractor spring too. What I now need help with is an issue I don't think I have seen any one else have and that is the mag release button is very, very hard to push down and even when I get it to disengage the mag won't come close to dropping. Have to pull them out. Does anyone know how to fix that issue? I love this gun but it is like having a beautiful wife who is just a total bitch.
Junk! I’m on my second one and still have out of battery issues. What’s worse is all the RUclipsrs promoting bs for a paycheck. Lots of RUclipsrs get paid by PSA as well
Thankfully mine has been flawless since doing these mods! And just for the record, I’m not sponsored or affiliated with Canik in any way, shape, or form. Paid for outta pocket. Happy shooting!
@@NitroZ18Fishing thanks awesome it’s running good! Yes lots of RUclipsrs get paid to review stuff and lie. Not saying you were just in general is all. I need to get out to the range soon
Bwahahahaha! I guess the MC9 is still junk! There is no reason anyone should have to make modifications to get it to work right! Also, these problems you've had seem to be vary by gun. Some say 124g ammo is the only thing that works. In your case, it was what didn't work.. Canik should have had this figured out by now and should have made a production run change to get these working right. But to my surprise, they're still having issues.
Just bought my mc9 back at the end of April. I was having out of battery issues using 124 grain nato rounds about 3 times in each magazine.
Mine has gone in for warranty work and still fails to go into battery. They changed the recoil spring. I think I am going to give up on this pistol!
@@NitroZ18Fishing I sent in it for warranty work again and it failed again... Canik is now replacing it.
Nice video bro👍🏼✌🏼💪🏼
Thanks man, I appreciate it!
Could you use a Fingernail file (Non metal) to file the polymer down if it needs it? And a copper barrel bush to smooth the port.
That could have been the blazer brass 115 g round but I'm just going to keep checking it
I just got an mc9l a month ago have fired 500 rds of 115, 124, 147 grain no issues. Must of fixed the issues.
Nice! I’ve had no further issues, love it!
Yepper, that was one of the issues I had (failure to return to battery). Hasn’t happened once since making those last 3 changes!
I have had a few failure to go into battery issues but it is 100% from the rot gun internet remain brass ammo I make it eat.
My son bought one what is the cheapest /best target ammo, and slf defense rounds to carry in it? Last question.
Nice work. I hope Canik watches this video and updates it's machine work before any more of these leave their factory. Canik and Sarsilmaz have a good solid reputation for reliability and longevity. This micro 9mm should be no different.
Thank you, I appreciate it! Still flawless ever since I made these changes, I don’t leave home without it!
Picked one up this past july and havent had a single malfunction. Tried every type of ammo i have. Most accurste sc i own as well.
That’s awesome! I’ve heard several people say the same, and then a ton of people who have the same issues I have. Not sure why, but I will say mine has been flawless ever since!
Awesome video... i was having trouble as well... gonna do the mods you are suggesting... thx brother!!!
My spring overlapped itself also they sent me a new spring, but how can I trust this new spring?
Not that I’m aware of unfortunately. And I agree, it sucks to have to do all this to a new gun, but I will say that it’s been flawless ever since!
theyre probably using the springs from the other bigger guns. im on my 3rd recoil spring need to test it out.
Yeah I’m honestly not sure, all I know is I haven’t had a single issue since I made these changes. Absolutely love this thing
I had the same problem and fixed my problem
Product is good but they needs to improve their quality control department for sure.
Lemme know how ya make out, I’ve heard more recent buyers say they aren’t having as many issues so hopefully Canik took care of some of these things!
This is why I am wary of new guns before all the problems are corrected.
Polished, new striker spring and recoil spring 400rds and still not reliable. Would not carry it, but have way too many quality edc's anyway. Sold it for more than I paid new tho, so no complaints..
Have you had any light primmer strikes now w the new lighter striker spring???
Zero. I literally haven’t had a single issue since doing these modifications!
Excellent video. 💯🎯
Can anyone help me?
local shop has for 349, wondering if i should risk it
Mine has been completely perfect ever since I made these changes. Ya, it sucks to have to do them, but I like projects and absolutely love the pistol! I’d say go for it!
Haven't has a single issue with mine ... It's crazy how some people have nothing but issues
Nice! Mine has been flawless since I made the changes, but totally agree. Don’t understand why some have these issues and others don’t
Great Great and Great Pistol.
Thx for review! What red dot do you have on yours?
Does the Red dot come with the pistol? If not what was the Total for both?
What tool did you use to trim the extractor spring? It is super small so I don’t want to mess it up
I took my small dremel wheel, made it super easy. Hope that helps!
Yup extractor spring. Great explanation. I made a similar video and did all these mods as well.
I’m having issues with mine with failure to eject any help ?
Could it be the extractor
I'm not having a problem with mines
I love to tinker also.
How exactly did you cut the extractor spring?
Seriously Canik needs to fire their design people and hire you..I shouldn't have turn into a gunsmith to get a brand new gun to operate correctly..this is ridiculous even a $150 hi-point doesn't require all this..having to purchase dremel tools and attachments you might as well spend the extra on a 43x,hellcat,p365 etc.
Mine just jammed up right now 🤦🏻
This sounds like software development - let the user do the debugging for you and you just implement the fix!!!!
Anytime you buy a brand new firearm and immediately have to start "gunsmithing yourself" that's not a good firearm, especially for a first time buyer
My New EDC.
Same here! Freakin love this 🔫!
Wish I would have got a Glock 43x instead of
I just keep sending mine back to factory
I'm not spending money on a weapon that requires repair out of the box. Maybe they should spend a little more money on the weapon and a little less on the "accessories."
I would just keep sending it back till they get it right.
Plastic parts inside the action sound pathetic (the striker part).
I regret buying MC9. No Canik anymore.
This one I bought sucked. Every kind of malfunction you could think of. Big disappointment.
Way too much work. You basically built a new gun.
