Friends - I’ve owned mine since 2007…and she’s equipped with all the Formula Dynamics goodies. If anyone buys one of these - here are a few tips: 1. Buy the Formula Dynamics drive by wire enhancement. The clutch will engage and shift 10x better. Always drive it in sport mode. 2. Replace the secondary decats with either Larini “decats” or “Sport” cats. The current setup really robs the car of power and sound. If you look under the current, the pipes are “squashed” and look like someone has “kneeled” on the pipe….I have the decats and you can really feel the difference in the power and sound. Also, buy either the Larini or Tubi rear back boxes for even more sound. 3. This car is a GT not a sports car. I’d recommend updating the front and rear sway bars and lowering the car…makes a huge difference. 4. ECU upgrade - this car already pulls hard…but, the ECU upgrade makes it pull like a scolded dog. 5. Maintenance - ok, honestly, yes, very high maintenance costs…but, buy what you need in advance and plan for it and maintenance is no more than a BMW/Audi/Mercedes. 6. Bad rep - the 4200 and GranSport are, very very very good cars. A lot of haters have no real clue about what this car is…it’s a blast to drive, gets attention and has a killer engine. 0-60 4.6 - 4.7 and top speed over 180 mph. 7. Join the Maserati Life Forum - a lot of very helpful people on there. 8. Ok CLUTCH - yes, this is a big expense…but, if you buy the parts in advance, and you learn how to drive this car with the Drive by wire…you can get 40k + miles on the clutch…. Don’t be scared. 9. Ferrari stickies - yes, a problem that plagues all Maserati 4200/GranSports…I’ve been able to find a guy who fixes all of this on the Forum..it’s worth it. 10. Drive this car, maintain it…rev it hard (she loves to rev) just change fluids and be prepared to never wipe the smile off your face.
Amen brother (or sister). They are a great car. Have been toying with the idea of DBW but James’ review has turned me off somewhat - more research is needed here. Looking at the decat pipes so hopefully can do that soon. Clutch is approaching its useful life so will look at the 430 or quattroporte clutch (meant to last much longer). I love driving mine on weekends (usually early mornings so I’m back before traffic picks up) but can understand the frustrations of driving one daily and dealing with its “quirks”.

I really miss my 53 plate 4200, had to go due to Covid and work issues, I was getting 19 MPG on a run and about 16 MPG doddling about, that was until I changed the MAF sensor for a genuine Maserati part, I found the previous owner had cheaped out and fitted a Volvo one😮 Made a bit of difference and MPG went up to an amazing 23 MPG ! Mine was a six speed manual and I never had any issues with it, well built and amazingly reliable 😊 God I miss that car ❤
Just past the intro and my thoughts are these; I’d rather regret things hadn’t turned out the way I’d hoped than regret never trying. In February I got my ‘08 650i. It is not the “most” anything, and some consider it ugly and it has its share of design flaws that afflict most mid-00’s BMW (and car makers in general). It is my first car as I’ve made do with motorcycles thus far. Because of this I wanted something special, and I have always liked the 6-Series, and I feel in love with my car almost instantly when I looked at it. Just after I got it, I drove down to the south coast from the midlands to see friends on my first big journey with the car, and on the way home, late at night, it hit me. This was MY car, fully bought and paid for. I owed no-one a penny for it. And I’ll admit, I teared up a bit, because it was a special moment for me. I don’t care it’s not the greatest at anything and even a bit “slow” today (Trust me, it’s only slow by bike standards!) Has it been perfect? No, it’s a mid-00’s BMW with a very complex engine. Is it expensive to run? Yes, although better than one might expect. Do I regret buying it? Not even for a second. I might keep it for a few years, I might keep it until it has to be scrapped, but I can say I bought the car my heart wanted. But I fully understand the need to drive to Scotland to test the theory. It’s all for scientific endeavour.
It's great for people that have the time. But as much as I love Jay's productions, I just can't justify watching RUclips videos this long with the hours I work
Owning a running a dry ice cleaning company, Maseratis are some of the worst constructed cars chassis wise I’ve seen. The rust on cars used in the UK weather is insane. Compared to a Porsche or other marques at this price point it almost reminds me of a kit car
In my inner circle that delve with toys, figures and model kits, we always have a saying "Better regret buying it than regret not buying it". Shame to see the GranSport going away, but very much understandable. Hope to see more Maserati in your garage (an MC Strad or maybe another Quattroporte Sport GTS...?) since not many youtubers want to give Maserati a chance to prove themselves. Also, can I just appreciate how you went into great details about things you like and dislike as well as why a certain car works - or in this case, doesn't work - for you. Great consumer advice, giving people chances to make well-informed choices when they want to buy cars (even if, like me, many probably can't afford one).
Love my 4200, it has GS springs and i cant complain about the handling at all. I paid under 10k, its low mileage (relatively) and has been very well looked after. I think for that money, its crazy value. Hopefully it wont throw too many wobblies lol
The manual gt that I own is particularly a pleasure to drive at 27890 miles from 2002 it’s chassis number 12 and my forever car I’ve done silly things to the exhaust but the pops and bangs make it so fun to take on twisty roads in the blue ridge mountains here in Virginia
Just had to lose my 4200 due to minor crash damage 😢 the insurance offer was double what I paid for it... the price for super unleaded is at £1.71, and at best 15mpg, and head ruled over heart - (this video doesn't help). I bought it at £1.46 ppl with £120 tank fill... went for a Jag XJ6 and the rest goes on home improvements - its the head again, but my heart, well, turn up the volume!
I watch youre videos for a few years now and really like them, especially the Ferrari and Maserati ones. I have one suggestion for you, id really appreciate if you could tell us the L/100km fuel economy number. I kinda get a grip on mpg by now, but all what i know from engeneering explained is that L/100Km/Miles is somehow a better value to tell about the economy. Appreciate it mate!
Ihave an 06 Gransport Limited edition (with the large maserati side badges) i love it and its F1 transmission is actually one of my favourite features, the downshifts are amazing.
Loved this video! As a ‘05 Coupé GT (manual) owner I think you’re spot on with your comments (except for the ride comfort which I find bone shaking in normal mode!). I just did a 1000 mile road trip last month and got 21 MPG with a lot of 70mph Swiss motorway miles. I also find it quite noisy in 6th at this RPM (probably exacerbated by road surface). You were lucky with your CoC, I had to pay Maserati a lot of €€ for mine. Re. the ground clearance, it’s a pity the GranSport is 10mm lower than the Coupé. I’m sad it’s going to depart the channel after such a short time.
Great video. It hasn't dampened my love for this model. As regards your search for a four seat vehicle, I think you'd look great in a Gran Coupe, indeed.
I have a 4200, due to the "sticky dash issue" I had no idea it had a sport mode button, I thought that manual mode was sport mode and was worried about the slow gear change. I few weeks back I discovered by accident the offending switch.. not know what any of them do due to no markings I was a little apprehensive to just press hem all until something happened. Having now driven it in sport mode Im totally in love with it and now only drive in sport mode regardless of the harder suspension.. I LOVE IT. Everybody I know warned me about the electrical problems and Maserati tax but given I paid only $26000 NZD for a car that has travelled less than 40k miles I'm pretty impressed
Looks amazing and since it's smaller/lighter than a Granturusmo it seems much more enjoyable while beeing driven as a sport car. To me the best Maserati and a total bargain
Your reasons are fair and as always an accurate assessment. I have the spyder and I often wonder about the decision. Then I wash and drive it. A really big issue to consider is what else has the same capabilities and look and feel for the same cost. The closest is a 997 Porsche which is common as mud by comparison and I have an SC that I prefer as my Porsche. It is a 2nd or 3rd car at best for those of us that can't afford Ferraris. A glorious Italian car which I will now go and wash, drop the top and enjoy the sun and sound.
James, take it next September to Croatian coastal state road between Rijeka and Zadar. Please, believe me, you are going to enjoy your Maserati like you never have before. It's like you take it to Italy, but..., much better, It was born to be driven there.
Now this is a video I’ve wanted for a long time. I’m obsessed with these cars. I’ve had 2 4200s but always wanted the gransport. I like the Bianca Fuji color in these but your blue would be a close 2nd. Beautiful car
Put about 20,500 miles in seven years on my 4200 Cambiocorsa. Got it in November 2013 with 42,200 miles. Put about 500-100 miles on it then stored it in Florida for 11 months. Started right up when I got back and I immediately did oil change, but within a 1000-1500 miles clutch totally failed. Looked at paperwork and saw clutch lasted about 17-18,000 miles. Dealership in S. FL said they couldn't work on it for three weeks so took it to a specialist. Mistake. This time clutch lasted 13,000 miles. Otherwise small things kept going wrong, 5 disc CD player, purge valve, alternator, dash button to open gas cap. Dealership left the car out in the broiling sun for days and glue for leather headliner melted as did dash buttons etc, etc. Clutch went again after 13K miles. Then variators went. Ka-ching! BTW, this car had at least $25K of work done on it by last previous owner including FD drive by wire and ECU enhancement software. I did keep up with the expensive annual maintenance $1500-$1800. Then Jan 2021 I replaced tires and brought into dealership for alignment. They had just completed annual maintenance and variator work not long before. They then informed me that car had serious axle and corrosion problems to undercarriage. Estimated $40,000 to repair. Within a week I was in new leased F-type!
I’ve got an 06 plate Gs in the same colour, your car sits low at the rear, these cars come standard with Coilovers, I had my adjusted and set up so the car sits level and a touch lower than standard GS and it’s perfect. I would bring yours up a bit at the back and it should help from bottoming out over humps
Great, honest interview. Equipoise done perfectly. Thank you and good luck...I'd keep it if you can afford to do so...but otherwise, nope. Get a modern E type coupe...done. Or just an M3/M4. Not pretty cars, but you have ferraris already.
Thanks for the review James and sorry it wasn’t for you. I was really looking forward to some decent RUclips GranSport content over the next 6-12 months as it is surely lacking at the moment. I bought an 06 GS around 6 months ago and am totally in love with it. Mine isn’t a daily - it is a weekender and it is usually just me or +1 in it. For me, it’s perfect, but could understand how using it as a daily could be frustrating. I wonder if you could mod out any of the issues and give it a second chance? Oh and good to know about the DBW….that was on my list but may bypass it now. Anyway, thanks for the vid and keep up the great work!
Honestly you told yourself in the episode of the Mercedes C63 that it was the car you should have gotten. Currently running a 2009 Estate example and my only gripe is the 66l tank. I've seen conversions to make it 90l which is what it should have had from the get go. Also definitely for the early 7spd cars get the shift speed upgraded to match the SLS. As it transforms the car. Still uber smooth in comfort, but turns into a right animal when the TC is off and the shifts start going through just a hair shy of an RS3's DQ500 box.
As an XK owner, i average 30mpg comfortably on a long run, ive delighted with it. Offer stands next time you do this drive, as youll have driven past my house (just east of Inverness)
I did it the other way around: Gransport first, then Quattroporte Sport GT-S. Having done 50k km in the Gransport, I would say I disagree with your gearbox review. That said there are a few rules : it should always be driven in sport, in manual mode. If your PIS is set properly, the car will be a pleasure to drive, including in traffic jams. Most negative comments you read about the F1 boxes are generally from people that don't understand them and don't know how to drive them (not targeting you). I am driving a F430 spider for the last 10 days, the box is perfect, the car feels natural, it's like an extension of your body. And that's surely because I did so many miles in the GS. You should definitely remove that FD stuff and use your foot as you righteously point out. Another important thing and you are right about it: don't lift, the manual says so and it's the way to drive it. I do the exact same in the F430 and it works wonders. You're right about scraping while loaded and you are probably scraping your primary cats... talking about exhaust: keep the back boxes but remove the secondary cats, it will wake it up while needeed. All the rest I agree about : ridiculously small trunk that will barely fit a stroller, etc. Overall it's a great alternative to other more extreme sport cars (like 2 seater berlinettas) when you need a bit more practicality and want to use them daily, also fantastic value. Cheers.
@@JayEmmOnCars I don't know if it's the particular cars we have driven, you stated many times in your reviews that 2 different cars even though they're the same model will feel different because of their maintenance, history and the rest, but that F430 Spider I am currently driving (and it's recent) is having the exact same behavior my Gransport had (similar gearbox so not surprising) but I don't lift and it behaves really nicely. I haven't driven other F1 transmission models long enough to compare, but these 2 at least have very similar behavior. Again, that could be a matter of PIS setting, which in my experience gains to be set up on the agressive side, even a bit out of spec agressive. I had it dialed that way on the Gransport, the F430 I didn't have any say in the value it's currently set at.
I disagree with your comment on removing the Formula Dynamics module…I think it’s great and really does make the car shift faster….owned mine for 17 years….but everyone has their own opinion…..
What is sure is that a Maserati, whether in England, Scotland, Europe, America, Asia, therefore, in the world, does not go unnoticed and always provokes passion and big smiles.
A fantastic well-rounded overview of the GS! There's no better way to really get to know a car than a big road trip. Having just sold my 2004 4200, ironically to a nice chap in Scotland. I can't say I fully gelled with it but surprisingly I do miss it and can't help feeling one day we might see these start to be looked upon more favourably and perhaps even climb in price. All the best, Matt.
Simply incredible! There are several very similar looking Maserati from that era 3200 & 4200 & omg i absolutely love them. They’re in my dream category
Still the best intro music! Never a big fan of this Maser, but the spec you have is very lust worthy. That sound - an Italian muscle car! Love it! Excellent find! Btw, similar MPG as my old ‘05 CLK55. I preferred to measure in SPG (smiles per gallon).
Very objective, practical review of living with the car under every circumstance. Comparisons to Aston are interesting - just been away to Germany in new Vantage for 10 days with wife, and with no rear seats and far less luggage space than Maserati, it’s been interesting packing it for the journey! Enjoy your cars before the politicians come to take them away (Drakeford, Khan, Starmer)…….
Great video as always. The camera view over the rear arches is spectacular! Its 20K of heaven. On a tighter higher milage budget. Id love to see your review of a Maserati 3.0 tdi. Great work. Thank you.
My hubby is an avid follower of your channel. We're currently watching this video and at 22:54 there is a shot of a gorgeous lock and castle. Where is this please?
Enjoyed the video, shame it wasnt for you. I have a 2007 Blu Anniversary GS, owned from new with only 6300 miles. Rarely drive it, but every time I do, I love it, still a real head turner and that sound never gets old.
I have had one for 3yrs , always drive in sport , never change down from 2rd let the car sort it out makes driving it around town a lot easier..i ve have a wider track with fd wheel spacers and h an r springs , make it handle on rails ...x pipe and larini back boxes and to be fair its way to loud ..i feel the pain of grounding out on un even roads it differently hates country rds ...i wouldn't recommend as a daily ..so i get ur point 😮
I love those cars. Almost bought one a fear years but ended up with something else. Might still pick one up one day! So gorgeous and sort of obscure in a way. Too cool.
James, having travelled these roads on a bus trip 20 years ago, I agree - a Maser would have been a much better companion! Every time I hear one prodded an evil grin surfaces followed by dribble. I really appreciate your style and varied content. Cheers from Wollongong AUS.
Good luck finding a decent on in aus there mostly the 4200 coupe. I finally imported a speciale version after a rough ride in a F1 360. Love it to bits, tried to upgrade to the grandtourismo but very different car big heavy more like a merc less of a drivers car.
Lovely video - thanks, James. You need an Alfa Guilia Quadrifoglio as your car for carrying 4 people and their luggage. I've had 2 and they are great everyday cars.
Nice looking car, great that Maserati are hangin in there" Scottish road trip high on to-do list! While I,m on I do like the way you combine the mundane with the exotica with some motorsport stuff coming in as well Enjoyed the two Mike Hipperson films( I used to do a bit of business with his brother David) & the Roger Nathan & Maclaren as well.
@@Kevin-si1es I've been getting parts together for it, problem is it's my daily driver so it's not so easy for it to be off the road for long. I've got it booked in for Feb though to have it all done in one go. Putting some 18" wheels on it instead of the silly 20" wheels as well which will improve the ride and I bet it will reduce the unsprung weight a hell of a lot at the same time.
A tad thirsty perhaps but I'd say a rather trivial matter for such a good looking, quick sportscar, I'd certainly choose one over a secomd hand porsche 911, more practical too, nice on J, great colour as well!
In regards to the suspension when fully loaded with people/gear, looking at the GVM (at least in Australia) you only have 380kg of payload (GVM - Kerb Mass, 2060kg-1680kg). So with 3 people and all of the luggage you may have been getting close to GVM.
Woo for buck! Love it Honestly I never thought about anyone else when buying a sports car. The rear seats are like decorative fruit, not meant to be used! The soundtrack alone and admiring the car when you walk away are enough for me ❤
If I recall well, wheeler dealers had similar problem to yours with their drive by wire system in a 3200 gt. It was long ago, but they had a guy who knew what he was doing fix it for them. Maybe the old episode is worth checking out
Jay look at a Lexus. Four doors, great engine, reliable and they drive great. Heart says RS6, but that has VW heritage and in OZ they do not have a great reputation. Pity.
I owned a 4200 spyder for 2 years - did 12,000 miles in it. While it was somewhat flawed, it is without doubt the car I look back on most fondly. I've had 911's, Boxsters, S2000, M4 and while they were all great, and in some ways more capable, the Maserati made me feel a way the others never did. Fantastic car (if you can stomach 15mpg!)
You should run some fuel additive through the system…… I got my w210 from 30mpg to 38mpg with a bit of fuel additive to clean out a high mile engine of its accumulated deposits
Thank you for this review! A beautiful, low mileage example appeared locally… Was considering it given I missed my Gran Turismo, but will let someone else embark on a journey. By the way, please feature more declassified vehicles like you did with the Ferrari FF it was brilliant!!!
The Gentlemen's Ferrari. Your blue trident looks a stunner, Jay! Beautiful car, and a sound like the voice of the gods. Sure, it'll have it's quirks and irritations, but I'd take that for granted. Assuming I could actually buy one that is :-)
The fuel economy can probably be attributed to the transmission. No torque converter to lock up while cruising and lower the revs. Also 20mpg isn’t *that* bad all things considered
Honestly I love that car. A little less that the quattroporte that you had but it’s one of my favourites. I really think that if it was a manual (maybe gated) it would be one of the most special Maseratis ever.
🤔🤫 Too personal !. I will drink to that, Whiskey 🥃 please hold the ice ❄. Now 30 plus ➕ cigarettes per day - yes please . I didn't even mention the 20 plus 🍔 burgers............
I almost bought an 06 back in cali for 11k dollars. Dark blue interior. But it didn’t have a headliner and I just had a bad feeling about that for some reason. Very glad I didn’t get one as that would’ve been my only car and made 10 or so half country trips that next year. Would’ve been brutal 😂 cars so cool though.
Thank you for your honest indepth review.... Great content, video, audio, commentary, tutorial, demo, editing as usual Im in the market for a Maserati 08-13 4.2L or 4.7L Quadroporte or Grandtourismo with updated ZF transmission & low mileage preferably with up to date maintenance. My understanding is in order to enjoy a Ferrari or Maserati you must drive it hard particularly the early F1 transmission models @ over 3k rpms in sport mode. I believe the variators would last longer if engines were wet sump.. Thanks again & smash the throttle 🚗💨💨💨💨💨
I have a 06 gransport which when I bought from Brighton and drove to North Manchester. I managed high around 30mpg but I was driving like miss daisy and wasn't in sport mode. But on another journey when I was more used to the car in sport mode and in a slightly more spirited manner that became around 22-23. So far I've not had any grounding out issues even with 4up but looking at yours I think maybe is been lowered just a little when compared to mine. Overall I'm very happy with it
You could likely fix the "scraping" issue with adjustable coilovers. I'm actually surprised by this review you never really had a reliability issue and that's rare for those. I now like it more.
Love it . Love it . Love it . ❤ Not a bad word to say. Your final summary about it being "not the car for you" as it does not fit the requirements of lugging folk or luggage around. May I suggest the Jaguar XFR-S ?
So my guess for the replacement is a Gran Turismo, another Quattraporte, or a Jaaaaag. There are other cars that would be more sensible, but you won’t be able to resist the intoxicating drive.
That sound alone! Plus the original movie The Untouchables! The color though not my favorite (although I hated it I had a blue car I loved and loved us back)
Get a QP4 V8 twin turbo instead. Same weight. Similar performance, HP and torque. Excellent sports car handlling on country roads, fantastic motorway cruiser, but also great in town. Four doors. Seats five in comfort. Sensible layout. Maybe, just maybe, the best all round Maaserati ever made.
Theres just one thing i cant overlook with this otherwise very fine car and thats the nose up, squashed on its haunches look.... its a common thing with BMW M Cars too. Some very slight front end lowering required!!
Great video as always . My question is what did you enjoy driving more and what one would you rather keep out of the 2 ? The aston martin v8 vantage or the gran sport ???? Im in the process of buying one of them and im a big fan of your channel trust your opinion .thanks again

According to the nit (before I took it out) I would get 24 on a run, but not sure the digits went higher than 24 lol
I don’t care it’s not the greatest at anything and even a bit “slow” today (Trust me, it’s only slow by bike standards!)
Has it been perfect? No, it’s a mid-00’s BMW with a very complex engine. Is it expensive to run? Yes, although better than one might expect.
Do I regret buying it? Not even for a second. I might keep it for a few years, I might keep it until it has to be scrapped, but I can say I bought the car my heart wanted.
But I fully understand the need to drive to Scotland to test the theory. It’s all for scientific endeavour.
I'm the same - my only true regrets are things I never did
@@JayEmmOnCarstrue
always happy with how complete your videos are - not pandering to the 5 or 10 minute video approach.
He does the most thorough reviews I've ever seen.
And the current trend of splitting what could be 1 40 minute video in to 4 or more short videos released a week apart. So frustrating
I always like the way the subtitles say ‘Music’ when there is just the sound from the exhaust!😍
Headphones on, the engine sounds beautiful JM, your audio outside of the vehicle is brilliant, thanks for sharing
Regardless of the conclusion, I think you would have regretted not buying the car. Great to see your (as always) thoroughly honest feedback.
Totally agree with the old lights being better. Thought that for nearly 2 decades
Very good viewing. A detailed, balanced & fair review. If I hadn't just agreed to £2k's worth of welding on my XK8, I'd be tempted to buy one.
I wonder how you would like a CL(K) 55? Yes the transmission is meh. But the reliability and engine are good. Good looking and affordable car as well.
Is there someone who can make the paddles respond as quick as most rivals at the time?
Cheers.
The Ferraris definitely benefit from a lift at lower speed - they're surprisingly different to drive (in gearbox terms) compared to the Maser
VVT actuators are oil pressure activated, so you need to see if you're down on oil pressure first before replacing the VVT solenoids.
James why not just go with an M3 or Alfa Giulia QV? Sports saloons
I think it’s interesting with your stable of cars that you chose the Maserati for this trip ! Must say something about the appeal of the car ? ❤
Great work. Thank you.
Agree with the camera view over the rear arches. Absolutely gorgeous! 👌🏻❤️
I have the same over in Aus the spec was called MC speciale
Too cool.
I must be doing something wrong with mine ... consumption is 17 L / 100 km .. so 14 Mpg .. but sure I have a lot of fun with it 😊
James, having travelled these roads on a bus trip 20 years ago, I agree - a Maser would have been a much better companion!
What a great sound it makes. Why did you sell the Cayenne?
It was bought chiefly to ferry around an unwell family member - they subsequently passed away
Oh I'm sorry to hear that. Hope you're ok, I didn't mean to pry, sorry. @@JayEmmOnCars
Lovely video - thanks, James. You need an Alfa Guilia Quadrifoglio as your car for carrying 4 people and their luggage. I've had 2 and they are great everyday cars.
Clearly a car that deserves more attention and has the potential to become a classic.
Honestly, you and rowan atkinson are the only fellas worthy of succeeding jeremy, james, and the Hamster. Keep up the good work.
I'm pretty happy with my XKR I just need to get the suspension rebuilt really.
Well get it built then
@@Kevin-si1es I've been getting parts together for it, problem is it's my daily driver so it's not so easy for it to be off the road for long.
Oh, and gotta mention that to die for exhaust note, Awesome!!!
In regards to the suspension when fully loaded with people/gear, looking at the GVM (at least in Australia) you only have 380kg of payload (GVM - Kerb Mass, 2060kg-1680kg). So with 3 people and all of the luggage you may have been getting close to GVM.
Two of him and an esso meal deal would smash that
Woo for buck! Love it
Honestly I never thought about anyone else when buying a sports car. The rear seats are like decorative fruit, not meant to be used! The soundtrack alone and admiring the car when you walk away are enough for me ❤
Got the 4200 in Blue. Absolutely love it. 3 MOTs and still going strong
More mouth sounds, please. The scraping over speed bumps was wonderful!
This very car was up for sale on the Sport Maserati forum last year for £13k. Hope you got a good deal
Seems just some stiffer and perhaps slightly longer rear springs would fix the most pressing problem.
Pity.
I guess it's a sign of the times when a combined 20 mpg is "shocking". Some of us remember cars which shamelessly delivered mileage in the low teens.
14:40 not a digital device, it’s analog.
With a manual transmission, these cars are pretty decent. The F1/DuoSelect transmission is an absolute deal breaker though.
Thank you for this review! A beautiful, low mileage example appeared locally… Was considering it given I missed my Gran Turismo, but will let someone else embark on a journey.
By the way, please feature more declassified vehicles like you did with the Ferrari FF it was brilliant!!!
Isn’t that the castle where they filmed “Highlander”? At 23:02🤔
The Gentlemen's Ferrari.
Ended up bypassing the skyhook system in my Mito and the car is better for it!
Should’ve bought an XKR huh? Maybe now is the time to finally scratch that long term itch?
Great video, Scotland looks amazing and the car sounds great. Go check n buy a V8 E39 you know you want to!
Honestly I love that car. A little less that the quattroporte that you had but it’s one of my favourites. I really think that if it was a manual (maybe gated) it would be one of the most special Maseratis ever.
Handbrakes and Italian cars. Always a problem. My integrale Evos had criminally unsafe handbrakes.
Heavy breathing just from talking isn't a good sign - take care of your health, mate..

I m think that the fuel consumption and the sensibility to the pedal are a comun error with the sensor of the pedal.
Good price
How much of a difference is there between Rover 400/600 back lights and those on that Masser
I think your car has been lowered. Mine is also low when loaded up but it has KW V3s. Keep talking up the GSs, we need to firm up the values!
Thank you for your honest indepth review....
Great content, video, audio, commentary, tutorial, demo, editing as usual
Im in the market for a Maserati
08-13 4.2L or 4.7L Quadroporte
or Grandtourismo with updated ZF transmission & low mileage
preferably with up to date maintenance.
You don't still straddle those speed bumps, do you James? Tends to shag inside edge of tyres and throw steering geometry/tracking out.
Love it .
Love it .
Love it . ❤
Not a bad word to say.
Your final summary about it being "not the car for you" as it does not fit the requirements of lugging folk or luggage around.
May I suggest the Jaguar XFR-S ?
My uneducated opinion is a 1990's 4 door Merc of some type. Great stuff Thanks!
So my guess for the replacement is a Gran Turismo, another Quattraporte, or a Jaaaaag. There are other cars that would be more sensible, but you won’t be able to resist the intoxicating drive.
That sound alone! Plus the original movie The Untouchables! The color though not my favorite (although I hated it I had a blue car I loved and loved us back)
25.05 James does cover version of Annie Lennox - "why".
Excellent pursuit of allowance from the Jocks there, JM!
4 vids in 4 days 🤯 can’t complain
Get a QP4 V8 twin turbo instead. Same weight. Similar performance, HP and torque. Excellent sports car handlling on country roads, fantastic motorway cruiser, but also great in town. Four doors. Seats five in comfort. Sensible layout. Maybe, just maybe, the best all round Maaserati ever made.
Theres just one thing i cant overlook with this otherwise very fine car and thats the nose up, squashed on its haunches look.... its a common thing with BMW M Cars too. Some very slight front end lowering required!!
Watched it in the mountains so most of the time 144p quality and constant refreshing and lagging, felt almost like driving one!
I'd have one over a gran turismo which I have driven a friend of mines quite a times ...
Very good presentation! With the right attitude, this is a fantastic car!
Great video as always . My question is what did you enjoy driving more and what one would you rather keep out of the 2 ? The aston martin v8 vantage or the gran sport ???? Im in the process of buying one of them and im a big fan of your channel trust your opinion .thanks again
