      Dai style loves its rounded back. I prefer to stand straight personally

      The purpose is to train the mechanism of storing and releasing. Xinyiquan and Shanxi Xingyiquan is completely built around this mechanism. That's why in the past you had to train the squatting monkey for three years before learning anything else. The spine had to become flexible.

    I met Master Guo about 15 years ago. With just his fingertips on my ribs, he performed a tu-na movement on the spot and sent me a couple of metres into the air. I hit the wall behind me hard enough to get mild whiplash, and the next day I discovered 10 bruises on my ribs where his fingers had been.

    I love the spinal compression.

      Out of all the styles I've encountered, Xingyi/Xinyi probably the one which uses the spine and Dantian the most. Although the Hebei stylist at the start of the series was much more open to talk about Dantian movements than these guys, so its worth going back and watching that one. The internal works are essentially the same from what I gather.

      @@MonkeyStealsPeach Have you ever worked with any Baguazhang practitioners? There is some crazy spine work in that art as well.

    • @MonkeyStealsPeach
      @MonkeyStealsPeach  5 лет назад +1

      I learnt some Yin Style Bagua a few years back, but it was quite superficial, just forms and applications... so never touched on spine work.
      I should add though that Tongbei and Mantis both use the spine, but just not to the same degree as Xingyi

    You know as a young boi you think " this is just weak martial arts fantasy bs"
    When you get older (and wiser) you will realize ,they use it to stay more fit/healthy and most chinese dont go to the gym so these could seen as aerobics (for old man) .So dont judge to early.
    We all know Muay Thai,Karate,Kick-Boxing,Boxing are the most useful Martial Arts because of explosive energie.
    P.S.: I often ggiggle when I imagine that they probl. think this is fighting :D

      I dont really see why people love these TMA vs MMA debates so much. Its apples and oranges. If you wanna fight competively you need specialist training, thats just common sense. People train for a variety of reasons, and their goals will dictate their training style.

    hsing I has five elements performed in a straight line or going backwards united by earth which is round. If I ever get the chance I will teach consecutive step boxing to anyone who cares to listen. It is simple and straight forward and the style the human race will embrace because of its simplicity.
