“Blue Cheese” was a banger! Their debut album is a good listen as well.
I can't think of a single song that I skip on that one.
@@MrJeditwinz Yeah, it’s definitely a nice album.
Umc's "Fruits of Nature" album was 🔥 🔥, couldnt Wait to Get that Album, had some Hot Tracks on there. "Any Way the Wind blows, Morals, Never Never land, Blue Cheese, One to Grow On, Feelings", those are my Favs. Hiphop was kinda Changin direction at that time. Martin lawrence even had a Umc's Poster on his livingroom Wall on the Early Martin Sitcoms, hahaha. Great history Kenny💯👍🏾.
Facts 🎉
Fire album and NO cuss words.
Everything stated are Facts
Yes, it truly was an enjoyable album!
I still rock blends with the instrumental of one to grow on
The Umc's were dope!
all this time i thought UMCs was short for Ultramagnetic MCs 😅
Now I want to hear the story about King Sun and KRS ONE
Blue Cheese was dope, but One To Grow On Was my jam. Big up Kenny
UMCs one of the dopest golden era rap groups ever. 'One to grow on' one of my favourite hip hop songs of all time.
Lyrically magic.
Classic album
Blue Cheese Is Timeless. The Snare is A Monster. I Remember When it Dropped in 91. Shout Out To The UMC’s.
Peace! Wise Intelligent can definitely hang with Krs-One on the Mic..especially the reggae style..
Poisonous Products is a massive classic.
Peace to Haas G his production his heavy Apollo Kids for Ghostface is one the best, ever.
Props to you Kenny. You have the only Hip Hop/ Rap channel on youtube that doesnt need to talk about 2pac or Biggie to get likes and scribes. Much repect!
Respect!!!!!
I found out about the UMCs from Martin 😂 remember in the early episodes he had that poster. “Existence is a game of chance I took my chance and now I’m winning….” Love UMCs 🥂
I actually still listen to UMCs tho ....
Me too... "Anywhere the Wind Blows" is my fav track by UMC's
Oh wow man how I missed this one and I remember when UMCs aired on SoulTrain 👍
Still bumping Blue Cheese 🔹🔵🧀 🔵🔹to this day✅
Shout out DJ Kenny Parker!!! Another great video! You've gotten really good at this, bro! I remember Kool Kim feeling tight about KRS-One. I believe he spoke on it briefly on YoMtv Raps. The PM Dawn situation he spoke on. I did not know about the King Sun thing at all. Can't wait to hear about that. Also can't wait to hear some of your beats. Oh btw...Bang! Bang! Niner Gang! My 49ers going to the Superbowl!!!
💯🫡
i have "one to grow on" on my spotify playlist
UMCs was dope that song Blue Cheese makes me dance still to this day Pace to all the Dance Tribes of the 1990s 📈📟📺📀📼📹💡
We were there like 8 deep that night.....never jumped so high in my life....ran into Kenny taking the Path into Manhattan to get to the show
Waiting for that king sun follow up.
It would be great to see 3 old school artist and kenny just reminisce together
Not interviewing but just talking like friends.
Thats what i would like to see😁💪
Another great story. "One to grow on" was massive here in London in the early 90s. Cheers Kenny
Love this channel and your stories about BDP, Kenny. What’s really amazing is how it sounds like you’ve only scraped the surface of the amount you have to tell! Incidentally, I LOVE the Sex and Violence album. If there’s a cool story involving how that album got the Robert Williams (founder of Juxtapoz magazine) art on the cover I hope you tell it one day.
Yeah, I have TONS more stories to tell. I don't know how KRS decided to pick that picture for the S&V album cover?
Wow. This is one that slipped by me back in the day!
You’re an excellent storyteller, Kenny. Everything is plainly laid out, & easy to follow. Not a lot of pontificating, just the facts from your perspective. Dope ✅
Thanks!
Tremendous ol' skool UMC fan here. "1 to grow on" is still unmatched. Now, KRS is a very outspoken person & a "top gun" back in the early 90s. I'm sure there were many "clashes of the ego's" & misunderstandings as rappers interacted with him.
Many!!!! Bro, you don't know the half.
👍🏾 Appreciate the insight Kenny!
Any way the wind blows was kinda dope
Kool Kim (NYOIL) showed us his extreme side in the 2000s so im not surprised on what you are saying.
Big Up! to KRS keeping conscious hip-hop alive ❤
Please do a breakdown of the ice cube and BDP beef thanks ☺️ much appreciated!
The beef started when ice cube said “ let krs one stop the violence” in his record rolling with the lynch mob.
That's not what the song said unless you have the unreleased version or something
Blue cheese 🎶 still in my rotation! 🤣I don't care, 80's rap is dat REAL !
Came out in ‘91.
Always great history
Great vid, Kenny! I used to visit Unkut often and I remember that article and your response. Not surprised by Kool Kim’s actions. The last interview that I remember reading with him, he came across as real disgruntled, and not having a lot of nice things to say about Rza.
KRS1 is an i"ntelligent" dude. He could have said "MCs can't freestyle " Yall MCs can't freestyle "etc... understanding Hip Hop culture is key here. We grew up calling what took place sneak dissin. And I can totally see how that could be interpreted as just that. If it wasn't that clean it up!
Um....He did clean it up.
@@djkennyparker with a dirty rag...
Yo Kenny, it was wild to hear this story. I was at that show with the UMC's and I've always had such a vivid memory of that moment when KRS did that intro to his freestyle and you could hear the whole crowd react. All these years I thought it was crazy that he got up and dissed them right after they performed but now I know the real story! To be honest though, when the UMC's were "freestyling" I thought it was pretty obvious that they were spitting writtens, so I thought that's why KRS said what he said... Anyway man, it's cool to hear that after all this time.
And if I remember correctly, I think that might have been the same show when me and my little brother were standing in line outside the venue and KRS rolled up to the spot by himself on a bicycle. That shit blew my mind, haha!
Much respect to you and your brother.BDP is legendary!
Crazy! I was just listening to Umc's first album the other day.
Kenny is fired up!!!!
And rightly so.
@@need-to-know- true indeed
@@chrismorale_ back in the day, nyoil would have got a beating for that. I can’t think of more off code behavior, if this is true.
Great lesson here. Bury the hatchet whenever you can. Y'all could have been chill now. Laughed it over. Y'all were young, right? The same kind of beef that I experienced when I was younger.
Heh the UMC's is the last group I would expect BDP to have issues with, 😆
Thanks DJ Kenny, keep up the good work! Hey listening audience! If you appreciate these videos like I do, then make a donation as a gesture of that appreciation, like I did!
Once again, thank you so much!
1992 my favorite summer
That's an ill story, communication is key...the lesson is, one can't be holding that in and mix it in with misinterpretations and then transmit it as fact - it might really be their truth... but one has to speak their words without emotions over-governing the situation.
Damn, that's a lot beef...
KRS still out here killing the freestyles, I seen him in Philly a couple years ago, plus the knowledge Chris drop crazy!
Very cool video “What’s Beef 🥩 “ nice 👍🏾
Ultimately if that misunderstanding alone was enough to throw off UMC's career trajectory to 1+ hit wonder status and for one dude 30 years of resentment, maybe it was never going to happen with them to begin with? A true artist is going to put in the work no matter what anyone says or thinks. KRS living rent-free in dude's mind for that long and still living the dream; that's an example of how to conduct yourself in the industry and in life.
We heard about that PM dawn scuffle all the way out here in the Bay.
Valid advice Kenny! Peace and love from Chicago!
Peace Chicago!
I'd still like to know why YZ dissed KRS on "Thinking of a Masterplan".
Because Yz was down w XClan at that time, and XClan had beef w Krs.
I love Boogie Down, but what was Kris talkin
KRS One and DJ Kenny Parker are smart, and are not going to fabricate shit, facts! I can't believe Kool Kim did that, I liked Blue Cheese! That's crazy to hold a misinterpreted grudge like that! 🎤👑🔥🎶
This is why you need to write a book of the BDP war stories and things.
Come on man! MC’s know when someone is throwing shots at them. Why say “U MC’s can’t freestyle?” When the UMC’s were there? Come on son.
I was a big fan of UMC’s but I was always confused about their name.
The group Ultramagnetic Mc’s were also sometimes referred to as the UMC’s on fliers if the artist didn’t want to spell their whole name out.
The UltraMagnetic MC’s were made up of Kool Keith & Ced G plus two others.
UMC’s were made up of Kool Kim & Hos G 🤔 I wonder if they chose their group name and personal names based off of The Ultramagnetic Mc’s. Were they big fans of them and paying homage? 🤷🏾♂️
Damn, never realized all those similarities🤔🤔
Always confused me too, they should've squashed all that when KRS explained to them the real deal
Wow that’s interesting. Thank you for putting that together
Kenny sounds just like his brother
WOW!!! I don't even remember hearing about that Beef. Infact, I remember their name (UMC'S), but to be honest I can't recall any songs. Well at least at this moment.
Trust is a strong word ,yet people are still separated by it, in all forms of relations.
Another great video DJ Kenny Parker.
Thank you.
It is important to have hip-hop gatekeepers -- such as yourself -- to give those first-person testimonials, based upon having laid the foundation of hip-hop in the early years/golden age.
Both the present day, and future generations of hip-hop could not exist as they do, without the seed that the founding generations planted. The present day and future "keepers of the flame" are the current curators/custodians of a crop that was planted years ago. Don't misunderstand -- there are some new seeds being sown today by a handful of pioneers -- but if you truly care anything about the craft, you MUST recognize and respect the "old school" -- carry it on, modify and upgrade it as needed for the age we live in.
FACTS.
Kenny, please speak on KRS vs Adisa Banjanko, he was challenged to a debate and according to those in attendance in California at Standard, KRS wanted to fight Adisa, as a KRS fan, the debate would have been great for hip hop
That p.m. Dawn story has been told by plenty of people and not one time has anyone ever spoken on somebody getting hit with a microphone
Nope. I don't recall
Blue Cheese was da $#!+ Backindaday
I still listen to that album today.
Fun Fact. The UMC's are the first ones to ever say WU TANG on a record
Facts. I would like to know the science behind that
@@jyoomoeIt’s DEEP, Meth, Kool Kim are Good Friends from back in the days, they worked at the Statue of Liberty Together
@@AmosAndAsh Yea Meth said him and Kim knew each other since 3rd grade.
I remember Kool kim from the UMC's talking greasy about KRS and bdp in about 05. He made comments about the pm dawn incident and talked about how he didn't like what happened that night. He didn't speak of any other issues with KRS but it was apparent there was an issue
Holding grudges is dangerous. Especially unwarranted grudges.
@BoogieBoogsForever Big difference between UMC's (AKA Universal Mc's) & You Mc's, UMC's were a dope group they should've did like Gangstarr , Lord Finesse & OC did Wild Pitch Records to spring board their careers the move on to another Label UMC'S created a buzz that got alot of other labels attention especially when Martin Lawrence had they poster as a prop on the set of his show they didn't take advantage of these opportunities UMC'S managers supposed to follow up with Martin Lawrence peoples and made a guest appearance on his shows since his character was a radio DJ BDP/KRS ONE didn't end their career weak Marketing/Promotion did it.
BDP was putting(on tape)😅 out monster hits at that time and I don’t remember anyone wanting that smoke because every MC knew KRS1 would dust you off(lyrically)and after that,(if needed) hands. Went to a concert in east orange,NJ they had. Kris ain’t no small dude!
NOBODY really wanted it with the Teacha!
@Black____ I was living in Newark when he was runnin east orange 👍🏿 forgot who(rapper) he slapped in the club but that was all ova the bricks!
That actually happened, sorta.
Long story less long it all sound like it was a big misunderstanding
Oh snap.....I remember the U.M.C's....i always thought the UMCs was Wu Tang back in 92'. Yaw know they from Stapleton Projects in Staten Island..,..plus they knew RZA. Their "Fruits Of Nature" album was a monster on the streets. It was consistent of early New York boom Bap, dope lyrics & their foot steps was hype as well. My joints will always be "Never Never Land". That song concept is a gritty story book tale....then it was "Anywhere The Wind Blows".....once again a dope song that goes in on a blues sampled tracked that showcased both MCs rhyme delivery. Then "Blue Cheese"...I was never that crazy about Blue Cheese.....I always thought that song too novelty or silly. But I did liked "One To Grow On".....which I saw that song was UMCs version of "Cool Like That" using a jazzy sample over a boom Bap drums, again the rhymes was tight My last favorite jawn on that album was a song called "Morals". The song speaks for itself.....about do you have "Morals" ? What do you do to protect your morals ? Do you have lack of morals ? UMCs a few years later dropped a second album but unfortunately the second album wasn't that good. In fact, it took "Kool Kim" adding "Fly Guy" to his solo career name. Go back & check out his jawn "Skillz R' Amazing" dope song ! UMCs will always be one of my favorite Staten Island Group....well, next to the GP Wu & Wu Tang......
🤔🎵🎧🤔🎵🎧🤔🎵
“Fly Guy” was “Fly Guy Kool Kim”, not two people. And I LOVED that second album. I know a lot of people had a negative reaction because it was such a stark change, but it was really good
Peace Kenny. Yo that that’s wild funny that he said you can hear the thump of the mic hitting PM Dawn’s head. 😂😂😂😂. I don’t remember meeting Kool Kim but I know Hass G well. He’s mad cool.
I love the UMC's and Kim(NYOil) in general. Incredible music as a duo and incredible when he was solo. Very solid person. For the record, there are two UMC's posters in Martin. One in the apartment and one in the radio station. Their music still sounds amazing. I'm a Kris and BDP fan also. Would be nice to see them talk it out and do something positive. Two absolute powerhouses 💪💪💪. UMC's 🤜🤛 BDP
Sad just a simple misunderstanding.
My man Kenny Parker....can't get no darker...
Lies I was there... you told the story 💯
Thank you
Thats crazy, because the battle rapper - (MURDA MOOK) just got into beef with (SERIOUS JONES), with a line he said - "YOU CANT BE SERIOUS" !!!
LMAO .......... SERIOUS JONES think he was talking about him in a diss, lol
Battle rap well’s running dry 😂
Seems like more of a misunderstanding than beef.
Well, that's how they usually start...then get blown into something bigger than what it is...
To quote the teacha ,"Be a mental vegetarian. Indulge in no beefs like the fish in the aquarium "
Ego's in Hip Hop are too fragile. I've been saying this for a while.
The BIG EGO not the BIG APPLE
it's not just hip-hop. it's universal and so out of hand these days. people need to gain some perspective and stop acting like the world revolves around them.
KRS-One is a Top 5 Of All Time emcee, Peace & Love for these videos!
Shoutout to Andre Auram, TruthSeekah, DMX & Krayzie Bone, the remainder of whom I believe to be the Top 5 Emcees Of All Time!!!
Wow see how beef can start..... smh!
Thanks for sharing your story!
Wild times. hopefully it's all over and done with.
Kool Kim spoke about this during his NYOIL run...
You're not lying Kenny. The Undisputed Truth told us back in the 70's "Smiling Faces Sometimes"
kp my g still CLEAR & CONCISE, love
Thank you!
I just hope the UMCs are not blaming BDP/KRS ONE for their downfall cause if I’m being honest it was their selling out to be hardcore that lost me…that Unleashed album was no good and it was sad to see their potential lost.
I think they was just trying to switch up... not sell out. I thought both albums was fire
I love the UMC's first album and the NY Oil joints. Also really like Kool Kim's version of the PM Dawn incident lol... but holding a grudge like that is wack. I still love their music though.
That is very petty behavier from Kool Kim. Great video tho Kenny! Waiting from that King Sun and KRS altercation video 🎉
KRS was beefin wit all the conscious rapper.. Lol 😂
I wouldn't doubt it if KRS One meant it the way he said it because you know what they say about the common denominator. I've never met Kool Kim before and I'm from the south but even I knew NY Oil was Kool Kim so I don't know how you didn't and you met him.
UMC's was dope as cheese....blue cheese to be exact
I was just reading that article about a month ago . I'm glad it was too good to be true .
Big Up to DJ Kenny Parker...
Big up!
You look like krs without hair😂😂
Krs and blaq poet beef
I'll beat you down, was that the name of the song? It was so long ago I can't remember.
@@1117AJ exactly 💯
I was hoping for a Rick James "That's a bold face lie, we did not run up on stage and beat PM Dawn on the head with a mic... Yeah I remember running on stage and hitting him on the head..."
😂😂😂
Kool Kim may be responding to this today.
im subscribed to both
I do not believe that fable. KRS-One is not the 13:18 problem. He is a real solution in Hip Hop every since the earlier days until now with the current area.
I heard it as "UMC's" while watching this video.
It was real hot in 1992 all over
For real!
Much respect to DJ Kenny Parker, good content!
PEACE 7
Peace!!!
Krs stayed beeffin with artists over nothing
Didn't know UMCs were from the island
😂😂 KRS was 50 Cent back in the day. Giving no fucks.
The suckers he dissed deserved it and calling them artists is a stretch of the definition.
has G from umcs produces apollo kids for ghostface
"That was 30 YEARS AGO"
- Biggie
Homie gotta get a grip. Yes, bringing it back.
Blue Cheese and One To Grow On were some cold azz beats, though. HAS, get your man!
