Hope you are well everyone! Been a little while since my last review. What do you think of WRC 9 let us know. See you on the next one and have a fantastic weekend coming up. 👍
I've played this for some hours and got the hang of it. I think its better if you change the dead zone on your left analog stick, I've put mine to -18 because it makes a lot easier handling the vehicle in straights and overall have a better control of your car. Getting a perfect drift around the corner feels amazing haha
You actually can get analog triggers working on Switch with an 8BitDo SN30 Pro+. Update the controller to version 5+ and then in the 8BitDo Ultimate Software create a new profile. In the Sticks page, select "Swap Right Stick And Trigger" and save the profile. You can now swap to this profile by pressing in the two thumb sticks. Now in any racing game go to controller settings and change the right stick up direction to be accelerate and down to be brakes. Enable the controller profile and then race!
Yea the 8bitdo is a great controller. Shame that it is not a standard feature on the actual Switch itself. For those that play handheld a lot it is a real miss on games like this. Thanks for the comment buddy.
Does it work without using any of the software? The controller has analog triggers, so wouldn't the game recognize this without having to trick it into thinking you're using the sticks? I'm asking because if it works this way, then I imagine a GameCube controller would work as well.
@@skern49 no they are digital only under wrc9 without the remap but i did send a support email to 9bitdo asking for wii controller compatibility, with any luck they may implement it. havent tested wii controller support in wrc 9 as i don't have a wii controller however i find the remap to work really well and be compatible with a lot of driving games
The Switch Pro has GOT to have analogue triggers! That would also explain that worrying rumour about some games being "Switch Pro Exclusive" Great review, as ever, stay cool everybody!
Use the new 8bitdo Pro 2 to get analog trigger working. In WRC setting set right stick to accelerate/brake, in 8bitdo Ultimate software swap right stick and triggers. Also like setting up/down shift to rear paddles on the Pro 2.
If you get a Mayflash magic-ns adapter you can use a Logitec G27 wheel & pedals for this and other driving games, It works great you just don't get the force feedback from it.
🖐 Great review as always, Juan! The Switch is the only current console that I own, and so I knew that there would be a trade-off on graphics when it comes to some games, but then I’ve never been that hung up over them either, gameplay and control more than anything else has always been the key thing. I’m tall playing WRC 8 right now, but I do live rally games and I love what I’ve seen about the new courses here, so this will be an eventual purchase (probably sooner than later). Also, really nice to hear that acceleration and braking can be re-mapped to the right analog stick- I do that already with GRID, Virtua Racing, and Rush Rally 3 (A highly underrated game that one) and so when I get this, I’ll definitely make a point to remap. Anyway, nice job and thanks- was looking forward to what you’d have to say about this.
@@SwitchWatch I’m sure I will- I just switched the control on WRC 8 to using the right analog stick for acceleration and braking and the ZL button to the handbrake, and now it’s a whole new game- yeah sure, it’s not the same as analog triggers, but it does work extremely well.
🖐 Thanks for the WRC8 comparison. I saw in the other reviews (yes I feel bad about it but in my defense they where earlier) lots off content and parkour's I already know from 8. You are the only one to consider it in the review ( don't know why I bother with the other reviews once again they are a waste of time). Thanks again. 👍
I still remember GRID Autosport's workaround regarding analog triggers (by using the GameCube controller), if only Kylotonn could invest in that method. (The twin stick approach reminds me a lot of the PS3 version of Midnight Club Los Angeles with its default control scheme XD)
@@SwitchWatch What's baffling however, on Switch, there's an option to toggle motion blur in the options menu, and yet, the game doesn't have motion blur at all 🤔
Try left stick down for brake and right stick up for accelerator as long as you tip the steering forward a bit its a workable hack around the issue of accelerate and brake
@@pablovi77 steering stays the same on left stick, just give the brake a bit of dead zone to compensate for slight drift when steering left/right and avoid unintentionally braking
I use the right analog stick as my gas and brake. It’s not the most convenient form of control, but it does help a great deal, once you get used to it.
I suck at driving simulation games regardless of controls so this is right up my alley. This way, I can blame the control scheme for my lack of driving skills.
I can't be the only one who reassigns my acceleration, brakes and handbrakes to B, Y and A respectively, am I? o.o Been using such mapping since Colin McRae Rally games in PS1.
🖐🏻 Good review. I play Grid with the thumb stick for acceleration and braking and it’s not bad. Just takes a little practice, but might not be for everyone. Hopefully WRC 10 will be out on the Swtich Pro later this year.
@@MP-S-TG Interesting. That would be a game changer for racing games if possible. Is it possible to map only part of the analog stick to a trigger? I feel like this is only going to let you accelerate, and you’ll be stuck using only the hand break.
I have this on my Xbox one x and it plays great, I tried it today on the switch and you are right the controls are awful. I tried it with a third party controller and it was too frustrating. Unless they patch this I wouldn’t bother buying it as you may end up throwing your controller out the window 🙈
@@groundhoglife The developers can’t patch this issue (as stated by the developers of Grid). You’ll notice in the controller menu that the Switch registers your controller as a Switch Pro Controller. The system is then built to assume the controller has digital triggers. Playing with a controller that has the travel of analog triggers, but having them read as digital inputs is terrible. Nintendo have to address this from an OS level. GameCube controllers are the only controllers that have analog triggers the Switch will recognize, but the game has to have actual GameCube controller support. Grid does.
@@ppfclark Yeah... I don't know If the switch software can register two different inputs from one stick at a time... But worst case scenario you could throttle smoothly with your right trigger and break digitally with your left trigger (plus the hand brake as a different input). Smooth brake is important but not as much as throttle
Confused. I changed the acceleration and braking to the right analog stick, but the problem is every time I break now, the camera changes to the rear view. What am I doing wrong?
Hi Brian, where you are changing the controls you need to scroll down and look for the camera controls. The right analog stick is assigned to the camera. So wherever you see the right analog control assigned to the right stick you need to remove them all. There is if I remember 4 positions. Forward, rear, left and right. Make sure all are re assigned to a different button ie the directional pad. This will take away the issue. Hope that helps
Depends buddy, we all like different stuff, I just like to be as transparent as possible. Controls in games like this is really important. Not having analog control can be a deal breaker for some.
Hi to everyone guys, can you do a comparison in graphics in handheld mode between wrc8 and wrc9. Because in wrc8 you get a pixalated image that I hate, you just can't look at it. Is this still happening in wrc9?
do yourselves a favour buy the 8bitdo pro 2 controller go to the 8bitdo ultimate software and create a profile and then swap the right analog stick with the trigger buttons now enjoy the game with analog triggers for acceleration and braking for all racing games on the switch
Some of these rally games are just so unforgiving and unrealistic. You touch the side and the car spins out of control 🙄 This is not how rallying works in real life.
🖐️ looks like I need to wait for a newer version. This game leaves too much unfinished for the price. Even on sale for $30 I think it's overpriced considering Dirt 2.0 was only $9 on Xbox.

This is why the Switch needs analog shoulder buttons.
