I'm checking out a few names on the trademark list. There are a few I'm thinking of using and they are not trademarked but someone is using them. (in other states not close to mine). I'm assuming I can trademark them? Or not? do I even have to? I guess it would be wise to do so, so someone else doesn't possibly get famous off the same name. And what about registering a business name? Tech. this is a business so I should also register the name there too right? So many questions....
Hey Rachel, thanks for the clear and insightful video! Unfortunately it seems that brand names are no longer accepted by Amazon KDP. Which is unfortunate, because especially low content books like journals or planners don't have "authors" in the real sense since they're not written, but more designed and assembled. The Amazon KDP instruction does not state that brand names are not allowed, it only uses the whishy-washy term that the author name should not be misleading the reader. Do you have any update on this topic? Greatly appreciated!
How do I know that the name of the publisher I chose is not a famous person in the United States or any other country? How do I know that it is free of copyrights?
Rewatch the section of the video on google searching for the name you want to use. Also, go to your states business website and do a business search on that name.
Struggling with a brand name here. My Christian blog and t-shirt biz is branded as "Beyond T-Shirts." (like the 'great beyond' where Jesus is). I have lettering on my car with my brand logo; flyers at church, my RUclips channel, FB biz page, etc. I just uploaded my first prayer journal yesterday after reading your guide, but I won't publish it until I see the proof in a few days. Right now my name on that journal is "Beyond T-shirts" ... not sure if I should keep it that way though. I only have one book on Amazon published under my personal name and I think I've sold ONE since I published it back in 2016. LOL I haven't done a registered name search yet; since my t-shirt biz is strictly POD with Teepublic, I never registered the biz. Appreciate your feedback!
My first book was accepted with my brand name as the author. My second book under the same brand name was rejected yesterday and despite a follow up email to Amazon KDP, they are insisting I change my author name. Amazon claims I am confusing customers, but I'd argue that they are the cause of any confusion with inconsistent interpretations of their own rules. I think the days of brand name author names are over.
Yea I really like how you said you do use a few keywords in your name but know we shouldnt WOW to much take care of any competition you are wow to much
Rachel, thanks for sharing with us so much content. I'm finally looking forward to next month when I'll upload my first set of books to KDP. I want to have two different brands for LCB. One for adults and one for kids. Should I go for a person's name for each brand (such as Joe Smith), or more like a brand name (such as Smith Publishing)? Can you think of any advantages or disadvantages?
Does KDP object for 1 account to have more than one brand name? Kindly clarify. Thank you for some neat content. I am jumping onto this bandwagon...all thanks to you. 😊🙏
Thanks for watching! You can have as many author names (including brand names) under 1 KDP account as you want. I recommend sticking to 2 or 3 maximum because it will be easier to focus on building a strong brand for each one.
Oh just popped this one on my watch list for the morning. Looking forward to seeing what you think on this. I have a pen name that I’ve used across social media for a year. I couldn’t imagine using my name - interested to see a different angle. Also possibly having a different brand is potentially future growth options. Don’t normally comment (even though I binge watch your videos) but I’m looking forward to tomorrows lesson. 👍🏼
Is publishing using a brand name still allowed? I seem to find a lot of people saying KDP has cut back on that and pretty much the author of any new KDP book has to be a human name (real or penname)?
Hi Fola! Once you receive an email that your book is live there is nothing left to do except promote your book and monitor its performance and make any adjustments as necessary.
That's awesome, congrats!! I'm just getting started and hoping to have something up very soon. How long did it take you get your first book made and onto Amazon?
Rachel, I have tried to make a coloring book from scratch as you've shown on your video but , mine isn't coming up like yours did! Once I upload the item it doesn't come up with the options you had, I only had the option of, eps, jpg or wave browser! It does not come with your options of svg, jpg or ai! I am sorry about asking you about another video but, I thought you would see it quicker on here since this is a newer one. I would very much appreciate your help. I don't know what I am doing wrong, thankyou GiGi.
A lot of her videos are a few years old and the programs have changed so it's hard to follow along. I'm using her video "how to make a book cover" and I was on the uploading step and it was already different. 😕 I'll have to find other more recent tutorials on youtube.
Can You please explain to me who is actually coming out of the pocket for books to be made and shipped is it the Author of the book or is it Amazon or KDP I really need to know I'm not getting any answers from KDP or Amazon HELP
According to the specifications you choose your deciding on the price of your book and The buyer PAYS for everything the printing, the shipping the taxes your books won’t be sitting in a warehouse. Your books will only be printed when someone purchases them.
Thank you for this info. I want to use a pen name for the coloring books I am doing for kids, but KDP keeps rejecting it, I am not using keywords I am just using a noun as the first name and last name publishing. I am not sure if I am doing it right or where the issue is, do you have any suggestions or ideas or what is happening?
How can I create a brand name if I can't use keywords? Almost all words are keywords. Even Publishing and Press are currently being rejected by Amazon. So basically a Brand Name is not allowed on Amazon these days
Can we create multiple brands on the same KDP account? I think it makes sense to have different brands, because each one can represent certain types of books. I’m just curious if it would cause any issues with Amazon if we create multiple different brands under the same KDP account. Each brand would have its own message, logo and website.
High content book definitely real name. Never pen name unless it's illegal or you're ashamed of the content. LOL . Low content book... brand name as author doesn't really matter and is strange for a notebook or similar. BTW this profile is my real name. 😉😉
"Never use a pen name unless it's illegal or you're ashamed of the content?" Surely you jest. How about Mark Twain? J.K. Rowling? George Orwell? George Eliot? Dr. Seuss? Lemony Snicket? All pen names, (just to name a few), all are writers of high content books, and I'm certain no shame was attached to their ability as authors. Peace out. ;)
Do you publish under your real name, a pen name, or a brand name? Let me know in the comments!

Great information. I plan to use one brand name for my no/low content books and another for my puzzle books.
I use my brand name. Planning to trademark it as well.
I have already made a name for myself as a successful lyricist, so I am using my own name.

This right here. It says we have to hide a human sounding name. I’m really torn over what to do with my current brand.
Got some good tips, thank you very much for sharing and good luck with building your empire ❤
If you use pen or brand name in addition to your real name, how do you promote your books when you're interviewed or set up your Amazon author page?

Very informative video, Rachel! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching, Brandon! Have you published on KDP yet? If so, have you done so using your own name or a brand name?
should i put my brand name on my low content notebooks

Excellent information! Thank you.

Do you put your name on the actual low-content product? If someone orders, say, a journal from you., will your name be printed on it ?
Hi Rachel, I have an LLC that I use to author gambling journals. Can I also use a different pen name for other journals and children’s books?

@@RachelHarrisonSund can u pls make a video on how to create brand names and add them to your book? there is no such video on youtube
Great advice, thanks
Thanks Linda! Are you publishing with your real name or have you decided to publish under a brand name?
Pen names work if one is a prolific writer capable of publishing more than a book a year, that way, boredom with one name does not occur
What if you use different names for different niches - and all of them are pen names? Can you build a brand around each of them?
Thank you so much!

Yes, I’m trying not to panic over my entire brand’s catalog right now.
Can I do my brand name then add “press” at the end?
Thanks, Rachel!
thank u rachel!
