You don't need to explain: It's Babymetal.

  • @Grington300
    @Grington300 4 года назад +313

Very few people can explain why they love Babymetal so much, but it is the whole combination of all the elements involved that make them special and unique - but as Su said "Don't think. Feel."
'Karate' is about fighting your own inner demons, getting up when you've been knocked down, you're crying and it all seems too hard, helping each other to fight on. The figures in white behind the masks were themselves (did you spot the reflections in the eyes at the end?) and they had been conjuring up the demons they had to fight. They defeated the first one, the second knocked them down, but they got up to fight on.
They watched a lot of martial arts films to get ideas for the choreo - Moa catching the fly was a reference to The Karate Kid.
You have so many more great songs and performances to discover from them and every one of them is different. I'd really like to see your reaction to 'Headbanger' live at Legend 1997 (Legend 1997 was the title of the show in December 2013 to celebrate the lead singer's 16th birthday - she was born in 1997).

"Even if tears spill from our eyes, we will face it! Single mindedly, seiya soiya, we will fight on. With our fists more, with our hearts more, while keening all our skills. Still more, seiya soiya, we will fight on, even if our spirits are broken and we can no longer stand."
Hey Mr. Rock N Roll! Good reaction! This is the song that really got me into the band. I'd known about them for about a year but dismissed them as a gimmick group, then I saw this music video. As soon as Su-Metal stepped forward and sang her first line I was hooked. Instant fan for life. This song is all about overcoming life's obstacles no matter what, defeating your inner demons, and working together. It's such a positive message and I absolutely love it. When most metal bands are singing about death, destruction, and suffering we have BABYMETAL to sing about perseverance, moving forward, and chocolate!
Love your reactions, can't wait to see more!

This is storytelling at its most powerful! You don’t need to understand a single word of Japanese to get that this is all about overcoming yourself and your own personal demons that are holding you down. Watch the final scene again and you’ll see each girl reflected in the eye of her own phantom self. Just really beautiful to be a music video!💪🏻🤘🏻

Great reaction Mr. Rock and Roll! I think the best way to explain why Babymetal is infectious is that it mixes the energy of metal with positivity of pop. Karate is a great example of this. I have heard this song hundreds of times but every time I hear it performed live, when Su-metal has the crowd raise their hands during the bridge and then jump when the drop beats, it gives me goosebumps. There are many more great songs to react to but I'd recommend Headbanger if you want more like this, Onedari Daisakusen if you want to see just Moa-metal and Yui-metal perform as Black Babymetal, or Death if you want some really heavy Babymetal.

Every song becomes an ear worm but you don't mind that it's stuck in your head. At least that's true for me. One thing that got me hopelessly hooked was the interaction of the crowd with the girls and vice versa. The crowd almost wants to entertain the girls as much as the girls want to entertain the crowd.

Something I notice about bands in Japan is that they usually have highly talented musicians, decent singers, good dancers (if dancing happens), and childish lyrics. This band is a successful attempt at applying the jpop formula to a different genre. Incredibly catchy chorus and attractive young people is the usual hook. I quite enjoy Babymetal but haven't had the chance to see them here in Tokyo.

Protip: Babymetal live performances are always WAY better. One reason for this is that Su's vocals aren't so compressed live. Another reason is t he stage presence, crowd interaction, the band playing real instruments, etc.

this was the very first taste of japanese music i experienced in 2016-i had heard of this very different music from a band called babymetal that was a cross between kabuki and idol and metal genres.so i punched up the one with the most views and it was karate-instantly loved it-i was at work at the time. had youtube on autoplay and left my work station and another amazing song started playing-it turned out to be real existence by band maid and i ran back to the monitor to see what this awesomeness was. i was so blown away i just couldn't believe this amazing rock was coming from cute japanese girls dressed as maids- well i've never looked back and the bands just kept coming.destrose, gacharic spin, scandal, doll$boxx, ganglion, rivini, mary's blood ,aldious silent siren, etc.well we've never seen the likes of these incredibly talented and gorgeous girl groups in the usa.oh yeah and my favorite power metal band, lovebites. all other music just sounds poor in comparison now-i'm addicted but please let me stay that way-no intervention needed

Honestly, the best part of BabyMetal is... the metal, the band. The girls sing well and are certainly talented, but the music is what makes this band good. Coming from a musician, they are all so technical and clean. Not many bands out there can top them, and it's unfortunate that these musicians are not more well known. They deserve the recognition that other guitarists/drummers/bassists of big name metal bands get. And the writers are fantastic as well. A lot of talented people backing and promoting this group.

Check out the "Catch Me If You Can" full live compilation. It has a great sequence of solos by each of the band members. And also features another fantastically "jarring" entrance of vocals hehe. It's great :)

Remove the metal: becomes anime song
Remove the dance: becomes death metal
Remove the singers: becomes karaoke song played as background.

"I love this band, I don't even know why". I had that same thought for a while. The two reasons I've come up with is because they've managed to make pop heavy, and that it's just so different from anything else I've ever heard but works so well.

I think one of the things about Babymetal is that they are happy metal, they make you feel good/happy. Most bands when they sing about something like death, it's dark and somber, but Babymetal singing about death still makes you feel good and kick arse as well (by the way they did a song called Death).
Another Japanese band you should check out is "Unlucky Morpheus - Black Pentagram", they are a technical melodic speed metal band.

If you like this song, checkout the live performance from the Alternative Press Music Awards in 2016. They perform this song live, and then after being joined on stage by Rob Halford, they perform covers of Painkiller and Breakin' the Law WITH Rob. Also check out Rondo of Nightmare with the Mischief of Gods intro (again live) it's an amazing song.

Your babymetal videos are also my intro to the channel. You've gotta do headbanger, and megitsune. Also note the hand sign they use a lot... well megitsune might be the better vid to explain that one. :D

You really should react to their very first video (Doki Doki Morning) to get a real sense of how they've evolved. Not to mention how very young they were when they started. I'm not ashamed to admit it's my ring tone!
