    1. deadlift is from the floor
    2. legs do NOT go parallel to the floor, its a deadlift, not a squat
    3. barbell should be coming straight up, then straight down
    it's much safer to have wieght on the bar when doing this excercise then not to. Deadlifts are a compound excercise that (when done correctly) stimulates your entire posterior chain, as well as hitting the glutes and hams.

    My trainer taught me to do dead lifts by simply pulling my hips back, chest up, bar bell down, but without this squat she's doing. Now I'm confused...

      Sounds like your trainer had you doing stiff legged deadlifts...

      BEVERLEY PHILLIP the way the woman is doing it is perfectly fine. She’s doing a conventional deadlift, just without any weights on the barbell.

    Never have i seen a dead lift performed like this in all my years training....I would not recommend reenacting this as a Dead lift form.

    *For the Bruising Bleeding and Cuts Scrapes or Whatever, May I suggest that you use an alternative for that on the 'SHINS' they should cover up so that while everything is locked and tightend up nice and firm in posture and movement you don't drag that barbell back up to the start position so that you get harmed or severly injuries**

    this is terrible. She's doing a squat in her so-called "dead-lift". Also, the movement is supposed to start at the bottom and end at the bottom. Also, her back is arched while coming down & when going up. Your back is supposed to remain straight (although bent at the hips). This demonstration isn't even a real exercise .

    HA HA HA HA "If you got lacerations, bruises, bleeding; you've done the deadlift perfect." Nice! It's great to see and hear someone emphasize the importance of posture. As a fellow trainer I see so many people (some are "trainers") who glaze over it.

    deadlift starts from the floor , not from the rack. how the hell am i supposed to walk with a bar loaded with weights. and those shoes are not optimal for deadlifts.

      She is showing how you do when you are a beginner and have an empty bar, not when your bar is loaded. This is exactly what I was looking for so thanks to her :-)

      mariesara Even empty bar this is stupid. Starting Strength and Barbell Medicine have the best instruction on barbell lifts. Livestrong is awful. Her form is pathetic, she’s doing a squat movement for deadlifts and wearing running shoes. Also livestrong doesn’t teach holding your breathe while lifting heavy, they incorrectly teach that the valsalva maneuver is dangerous which is complete BS with no data to support their take.

    She's really not doing a deadlift. The bar is supposed to touch and rest on the floor before lifting back up. Hence the term "dead"lift, you're lifting dead weight.

      And how is that possible if there are weights on the bar?? I do not think you know what a dead lift is. Her technique is spot on and her instruction perfect.

      ginger Actually I know a lot more than you know about dead lifting apparently. If you knew anything about it you would know that if there were weights on the bar then you would rest the "bar" including the weights on the floor aka "at rest" then lift back up. Now, what she should have done was make it clear for people like you to mention that in order to do a proper dead lift you need weights on both sides of the bar. Her not having weights on the bar doesn't properly show how to do a dead lift. She's doing more of a Romanian Deadlift where the bar but more specifically just for you, the "weights," don't have to touch the floor. Get it right sweetie! I know what I'm talking about.

      NaturalChik I disagree. For most exercises resting at the bottom of the motion reduces your time under tension and robs you of results.
      If you feel a temptation to rest at the bottom of every rep that may just mean the weight is too heavy,

    EVERYONE: watch other videos where there is some actual weight loaded onto the bar. Correct form can only be observed on a weighted bar bell.
    Video also needs more detail on the dos and don'ts
