Well I think I would try a hexi now after watching you. I learned alot today. My mom made Grandmothers Flower Garden quilts when I was young and I'm drawn to Hexis. I've been so intimidated I wouldn't try to make one before.
God Bless You and I'm very happy you all are safe. Happy weekend!!

How fun to see how YOU make your hexies. There’s a little voice in me saying “try the starch basting...try the starch basting”. But I enjoy the portability of my hexies with needle, thread, scissors and clips. I baste mine on days I sit for my granddaughter...she’s 13 months and still takes a nice long nap. I have a lot of them done and started stitching them together on 9/11.🇺🇸 I will email a photo or 2 of it so far. Today I will go to our local quilt shop, Barn Door Quilts, and look for silk thread to try. You always inspire me! Thanks for the visit. So glad you both are safe and happy!

I am working in a hexi quilt. Tone on tone, plaid and floral in pastel colors. I had started to connect with white hexi blocks. Decided it would never get done so now I am going to do them on a 4 patch white on white block.
I am so happy I found you. I enjoy watching your chats and love your sense of humor.

I just finished a hexi quilt. I sew mine like you do but I also sewed all the hexis together in the Grandmothers Flower garden pattern. Lots of work but fun. Here in Ontario CAnada we’ve had a weird looking sky the last couple of days and our weather guy says it’s smoke way up high in the atmosphere from Oregon and California. Who would have thought clear across the continent we’d see the smoke. Praying for lots of rain for you guys. Stay safe.

So relieved to hear that you, G, family and friends are safe. I know the smoke was bad! I was devastated when I saw that Detroit and the surrounding towns had burned. Then to hear about Talent and Ashland. Hope you are now getting the much needed rain, a gentle rain, not the landslide causing rains!
I got hooked on hexies a few years ago and have lots of flowers and even took a class to piece fabric together to form designs for my hexies! Lots of fun. Hope you'll be able to come to Tucson this winter!

Just some thoughts to share. I use to use a long thread when I did my binding on quilts and I no longer do. I live in Ohio and my children live out west. It broke my heart when the binding let loose on several quilts that were being used daily by my grandsons and wash frequently. (For my personal quilts) I now use short lengths of thread with the hopes that if one thread lets loose it will only be in a short section. On the quilts used and wash often I now only machine stitch the bindings. I love your videos and spending time with you. Thank you for all that you do.

An easy way to make sure your work is centred on the background is to press a fold in the centre of each side. Some put a little clip into the seam allowance but I prefer the fold.

I love sewing hexies, I am onto my third quilt. I do not cut out my material in a hexagon shape, I keep it as a square and fold down the edges over the paper and clip them. I then sew the folded edges together. Then sew each hexagon together. After sewing a few rows together I then flip the papers out making sure papers are left on the row I still need to sew. Instead of all those little pieces of material ending up in the bin I include them in the quilt.

Great video. I just might try making some hexies! I thought about you yesterday and today when I was out for a walk. The blue sky here in Massachusetts was covered with a milky haze which the weather reporter said was the smoke from the fires. It made me think about how massive the fires must be for the smoke to make it clear across the country. I am praying for all those affected affected by these fires. Please stay safe!

Hi Anna - Great instructions! Thank you G for the great shots.
I learned something a while back about thread and threading a needle and thought I would share it with you. Not sure if you have a problem with thread wanting to tangle up or not. While all threads are different, this trick works with all thread from a spool.
I learned there is a right end of the thread to put through the eye of the sewing needle. As you unwind thread from the spool, the end that hasn’t been cut yet is the end that goes through the needle. So, I’ve started threading my needle before I cut the thread and it doesn’t tangle up near as much if any now. Who knew that thread had a right & wrong end to go through the needle!!!
Thought you would like this tip as I know you use lots of thread.
Glad y’all are safe. Hope your air quality improves soon. Hugs! 🤗
PS - I bought some hexi papers last year and haven’t tried using them yet. Hopefully soon, I’ll find the time to make some cute hexi’s.

Nice video. I’ve tried every method of folding the edges in over the years. Currently I’m using glue most of the time. I have a few EPP projects going! I saw someone using plain scotch tape, which seems hard to believe, but I may try it! I do use paper medical tape to do the “flat back stitch” when sewing bigger prepped sections together, and it works well. I may try that. Stay safe! Edit - med tape = disaster!!🤦🏻‍♀️

This is a question about wool appliqué. Can you stitch the wool on a fabric other than wool?
