I visited Australia many years ago. I loved the people. Everyone was so helpful and kind. I was a newlywed at the time and my poor husband didn’t realize I was into these things. Fifty years later, he’s given up. You’re wonderful.
Love that Jenny has this Aussie who is so talented in paper piecing - my lasted crave to do. Glue is much better than sewing I'm learning and so much more. Thank you for your wonderful tutorials!
Good video! When I learned how to paper piece many years ago we didn’t use glue. We folded over the paper and based it. Glue came in years later. I still enjoy making Grandmother’s Flower Garden, it was is called. Don’t know about a colored glue. Clear or white would be my choice for glue sticks. Happy quilting 💕👍. Oh, I have ironed my fabric over freezer paper also. Stays nice 😊
This has made me go straight online and order a glue pen and some paper templates. I've never done this kind of quilting before so I am looking forward to getting started.
I couldn't wait for it to arrive. I downloaded a template off the internet and had a go today. Oh my word it's good fun. It even gave me something to chat about on my craft blog this afternoon.
Glad to see this coming back. I still have my paper pieces but out in the 1870's from cereal boxes and old envelopes. Some antique quilts still have the paper shapes left sewn into them, they were never removed
Sheri Sterling so you are over 100 years old? Or did you mean 1970’s? And i love this hexie work, woman back in the day did amazing things from simple notions and now you need thousand dollar sewing machine and 100’s of dollars of notions. I try to work the old fashioned way.
Oh my! I have just gotten back into cross stitch, am learning hand surface embroidery -- and because all these lovely stitchers (esp. from England) are doing EPP, I stumbled on you AND NOW I HAVE TO DO THIS TOO??? :) This has taken on a life of it's own. How wonderful. (P.S. you are a ray of sunshine...has anyone ever told you that? I bet they have. :) )
I just gave my e-mail, hope it works, l am a slow quilter and also do paper piecing the old fashion way, syill working on the same one. I am over 75year and live in Bangor Maine. I have some Block Books just, LOVE them from our local Cotton Cupboard, quilting store, one mile from my home.
This just popped up, and im so glad it did! The mirror trick is amazing. I just started epp last year ( a large quilt - i guess i can't start small😅). This is going to inspire me to continue with it. I have a rotating mat, but i think i like the pink better!
Just chiming in -- in the spirit of good fun. This is obviously not for everyone. I am grateful for all the great MSQC videos that have essentially taught me how to quilt. I always thought I'd never like EPP and now I know for certain that I don't like it. Thanks for showing us new things anyway! Keep up the fine work and Happy New Year!
That mirror thing she stands on the fabric to see what the fussing cuts will look like before she cuts, IS GENIUS! Wow my mind is blown and my socks are rocked right off
It's a great tool! You can get one following the link below. :) www.missouriquiltco.com/shop/detail/69353/patchwork-with-busy-fingerssue-daley-designs/sue-daley-designs/fussy-cutting-mirror
Love this tutorial. I have seen Sue's videos before on EPP and started some pieces...but got involved in other projects and tucked it away. This has inspired me to pull it out again...I just love the needle case she has there...such a great idea for someone who doesn't want to make a huge project. Love your tutorials Jenny. Watching your tutorial got me started quilting a few years back. Thank you for sharing them.
I just got my lovely, pink, round cutting mat and I am in love! What a time saver and mistake eliminator. I use it for EPP and for quilting. Thank you!
Another great tutorial. I love EPP and have made a number of small projects using this method. I taught my Mum and daughter this method and each have made several quilts which I then quilted on my longarm. We've always tacked/basted our work but I think the next piece will be glued, looks a lot quicker. Thanks to both ladies, lovely presentation. I'm an Aussie Jenny and I love your accent.
wow I've just discovered this! Its 5 yers old!!all I've done is a mini hex tag (500 tag challenge 2021 by Anne Brookes) now I have a pin cushion to make. But now I will have to buy some of these Sue Daley kits.It looks so simple. And I'm an Aussie
I started working on my first EPP project last year while I was pregnant with my third :) I'm about two thirds complete with my GFG quilt, and I cannot recommend the glue pens enough! Total time saver! This video was so exciting, my two favorite people working together! Thanks for the demonstration of the mirror(s), now I'll have to find one!
I purchased a pattern today, was so impressed it came will all it paper templates, an actual template and all of the materials. Then I purchased the needles, thread and glue, ready to start my very first EPP Project
I was cutting out fabric to make Hexies tonight using a Sue Daley template! Decided to take a break and look what came up in my RUclips feed- what a coincidence. They came out great- will be using this template a lot. This is my first attempt with hexies- thanks Sue for making it easier.
So much easier now. Used to cut out card for the centre and tack it all down. Made a small quilt in this manner in the late 70's for my son's birth. Been used by all 3 children and my grandchildren. Might give it a try again now.
Did not know what the difference between paper piecing (which I have done) and English paper piecing, thank you for the great tutorial. I love Hexi’s so this will be something that I will try.
Great tutorial! I just recently started a quilt with 1” Hexie’s using Picnic Pop I bought at MSQC. I’m excited about it. 1 need 1,599 Hexie’s and I have over 100 made already.
Hi, Ladies, great project it so lovely, that rotary cutting mat is a great idea and is so funny as you mention I have that rotary circle exercise wheel lol ha, ha, ha, I work out with it every day is fun is like dancing the twist. I am going to try this project. great information take care ladies keep up the great job.
This is a recent obsession I've been learning about, and I was expecting to see more of the lovely process, and then OMG, THAT MIRROR EFFECT CHANGES EVERYTHING! I'm so excited to get started soon!
Absolutely beautiful. I've never tried English Paper Piecing (EPP), but I do believe I will give it a try. You make it so easy looking. Going to look for the supplies ... hope you have them!!!
Thanks, it was very pretty, I have made paper pieced hexies, but never that flower shape, it is lovely. Enjoyed listening to her, she has a pretty accent from Austrailia!
This is not the kind of English paper piecing I knew about, and I love it! I am not sure about the mirror part as I did use a mirror for another quilt project but this is completely different. Thanks again for another awesome (I know that word is over used) tutorial as I always learn something.
EPP (Grandma's garden specifically) is one of my all time favorite things to see in a quilt; never thought that I would be able to ever do one myself! thank you Jenny and Sue for this tutorial this may be my year long quilt project
fiskars Hexie x-L SQueeze Punch are great to recycle all your junk mail postcard type paper into hundreds of hexies. Five-Inch square Charm packs can be cut easily into 2 1/2 squares. 1 five-inch charm will make 4 squares to cover 4 hexie shapes. You can trim the corners later, after basting hexie shape. ALSO, if you punch a small circular hole or HEART in the center of the punched paper/recycled postcards it will help easily release the paper/recycled postcard when it's times to pull out the hexie paper template with a small cuticle type stick to reuse hexie paper template again.
I may have to give this a try! It always seemed too much work when I would see projects done like this. However, I do think it is doable, for even me!! :) Thank you!!
Although I started with pencil, ruler, scissors, needle and thread (my first quilt took 18 months), I now use a fabric die cutting machine and sewing machine to quilt. I'm having a hip replacement in a fortnight, and I'm planning on doing some EPP in hospital and whilst I'm recuperating. I'm cutting the fabric hexies with a die and buying the templates ready cut ( I know, lazy or what?). Unfortunately I always seem to get in a mess with glue, so I'm still going to hand stitch. I've seen EPP done without stitching through the template, just a couple of backstitches at each 120' angle. The templates are then carefully removed and the stitches left in for stability. I'm really looking forward to my new project!
What a great project for you while you recover, Linda. I'd call that convenience, not laziness! There are so many helpful tools for quilting nowadays. Best of luck with your surgery!
Missouri Star Quilt Company my surgery went brilliantly well, I'm walking with one stick, I'm off painkillers and I've made 500 hexies so far with plenty of fabric left to make more😁. If anyone is watching from the UK, I found The Bottom Line 60wt polyester by Libby Lehman / Superior Threads online at Quilt Direct - they've got a great range of colours. I'm currently using Taupe 617, a nice grungy colour which just disappears into the fabric. I never thought I'd try EPP but it's very relaxing - thanks for putting this series on RUclips, it's really whetted my appetite 👍
I neverr knot when doing EPP - I just back sew. Maybe I will try this method out! I do like that Knicker knot. I also baste my pieces rather than glue as I like to stick to the traditional methods - I also design my own pieces and cut them out so it's all a bit time consuming! Slow is sometimes good though - even when you have limited spare time to sew, like I do:)
I visited Australia many years ago. I loved the people. Everyone was so helpful and kind. I was a newlywed at the time and my poor husband didn’t realize I was into these things. Fifty years later, he’s given up. You’re wonderful.
Oh my goodness, this method of fussy cutting is game changing!
TAKE MY MONEY!
Love that Jenny has this Aussie who is so talented in paper piecing - my lasted crave to do. Glue is much better than sewing I'm learning and so much more. Thank you for your wonderful tutorials!
Jenny it's such a pleasure to watch these tutorials. You are hilarious.
I love the beautiful designs made by this technique . I got the Rainy Day Kit and can’t wait to make it. Thanks to you both!!
Sue and Jenny together! What a great start to the year!

My two very favourite patchwork ladies together! Words just cannot express my feelings!

Very pleasant and clear presentation. Thank you so much!
That mirror technique is awesome!!!! I always wonder who thinks of all these new techniques or how they first came about.
Wow! She makes the impossible possible! Great presentation (love her manicure too). Many thanks for bringing her on the show!
So glad you enjoyed it, we hope you give it a try!
Such a delightful video. It was great to actually see Sue demonstrate….so clear and concise. Thank you!💕
Great to see a fellow Aussie with Jenny:) And Sue, your "accent" is totally normal!!! Great tips here. Many thanks to you both.

Oh my gosh, the mirror!!!!!!
Lovely duo ladies. Aussies represent!!

What a wonderful heirloom! I hope you give it another try. :)
Wouldn't take me long and I would be talking like that too. Lol It was great having Sue on at the beginning of 2017. Just plum Awesome. :)
great idea of using 2-mirror product for creating a kaleidoscope effect with fabric and hexie shapes!!!
Thanks, what a great tutorial.

Simply awesome , loved this episode, thanks girls 😘😘😘
The mirror trick is awesome!
Did not know what the difference between paper piecing (which I have done) and English paper piecing, thank you for the great tutorial. I love Hexi’s so this will be something that I will try.
I enjoyed it and would love to see a demo using diamonds in english paper piecing, as I never know what to do with the tails that hang over.
So cool with the mirror to test out the final result. It’s like a kaleidoscope.....

That was a great treat, thank you
I'm so glad you enjoyed the video!

I use Hexiform from England, because Hexiform is a fabric you don’t have to take hexagon out,,, it is my preference….💕
Can't wait to try!🥰
Great to see fellow aussie
Amazing tutorial! This method actually has a bit of Japanese folded patchwork in it. , I'll try this out for sure!
So intrincate
Jennie, the accent is too funny! You make quilting so much fun!
You don't think it sounds just like Sue's accent? ;)
Oh my goodness! I want to try this!
Sorry, I just looked above and am going to go on the site and place my order...Thanks!!!
Wonderful tutorial! Thanks!
I'm so excited about this!! I want to make her new Quattro Colour in the Bittersweet fabrics!! It is my favorite EPP quilt!!
Stay tuned for more EPP Tutorials with Jenny and Sue tomorrow and Friday. I think you'll enjoy them! :)

I was stitch basting my hexies while watching this and my jaw completely dropped! 😂
Great video. Thanks so much!
Awesome video! Thank you!
Very informational , Thank you
Thank you! Great tutorial. I always wondered how the mirror was used.
I love it! mug rug!,
Wonderful video lol you guys are so cute.
Beautiful! I enjoyed seeing the technique. However, I am hot fond of hand sewing. I very much doubt I will be making one anytime soon.

Last few seconds got me cracking up. 😂😂😂

I love to watch your videos and paper piecing and I just feel sad that I can not buy that magical glue pen in Portugal :(
Embroidery needles are the ones with the large eyes, not milliners' needles. Thanks for a great video!
Are you sewing the pieces together with just one strand of thread, or with two? This is great, thank you both.
how do you remove the sticky dots from the template?
