    I visited Australia many years ago. I loved the people. Everyone was so helpful and kind. I was a newlywed at the time and my poor husband didn’t realize I was into these things. Fifty years later, he’s given up. You’re wonderful.

    This is a recent obsession I've been learning about, and I was expecting to see more of the lovely process, and then OMG, THAT MIRROR EFFECT CHANGES EVERYTHING! I'm so excited to get started soon!

      I couldn't wait for it to arrive. I downloaded a template off the internet and had a go today. Oh my word it's good fun. It even gave me something to chat about on my craft blog this afternoon.

    Glad to see this coming back. I still have my paper pieces but out in the 1870's from cereal boxes and old envelopes. Some antique quilts still have the paper shapes left sewn into them, they were never removed

      Sheri Sterling so you are over 100 years old?
      Or did you mean 1970’s?
      And i love this hexie work, woman back in the day did amazing things from simple notions and now you need thousand dollar sewing machine and 100’s of dollars of notions. I try to work the old fashioned way.

    Good video! When I learned how to paper piece many years ago we didn’t use glue. We folded over the paper and based it. Glue came in years later. I still enjoy making Grandmother’s Flower Garden, it was is called. Don’t know about a colored glue. Clear or white would be my choice for glue sticks. Happy quilting 💕👍. Oh, I have ironed my fabric over freezer paper also. Stays nice 😊

    So much easier now. Used to cut out card for the centre and tack it all down. Made a small quilt in this manner in the late 70's for my son's birth. Been used by all 3 children and my grandchildren. Might give it a try again now.

    Another great tutorial. I love EPP and have made a number of small projects using this method. I taught my Mum and daughter this method and each have made several quilts which I then quilted on my longarm. We've always tacked/basted our work but I think the next piece will be glued, looks a lot quicker. Thanks to both ladies, lovely presentation. I'm an Aussie Jenny and I love your accent.

I have just gotten back into cross stitch, am learning hand surface embroidery -- and because all these lovely stitchers (esp. from England) are doing EPP, I stumbled on you AND NOW I HAVE TO DO THIS TOO??? :) This has taken on a life of it's own. How wonderful. (P.S. you are a ray of sunshine...has anyone ever told you that? I bet they have. :) )

    Love this tutorial. I have seen Sue's videos before on EPP and started some pieces...but got involved in other projects and tucked it away. This has inspired me to pull it out again...I just love the needle case she has there...such a great idea for someone who doesn't want to make a huge project. Love your tutorials Jenny. Although I started with pencil, ruler, scissors, needle and thread (my first quilt took 18 months), I now use a fabric die cutting machine and sewing machine to quilt. I'm having a hip replacement in a fortnight, and I'm planning on doing some EPP in hospital and whilst I'm recuperating. I'm cutting the fabric hexies with a die and buying the templates ready cut ( I know, lazy or what?). Unfortunately I always seem to get in a mess with glue, so I'm still going to hand stitch. I've seen EPP done without stitching through the template, just a couple of backstitches at each 120' angle. The templates are then carefully removed and the stitches left in for stability. I'm really looking forward to my new project!

    • @lindafriend9392
      @lindafriend9392 7 лет назад +3

      Missouri Star Quilt Company my surgery went brilliantly well, I'm walking with one stick, I'm off painkillers and I've made 500 hexies so far with plenty of fabric left to make more😁. If anyone is watching from the UK, I found The Bottom Line 60wt polyester by Libby Lehman / Superior Threads online at Quilt Direct - they've got a great range of colours. I'm currently using Taupe 617, a nice grungy colour which just disappears into the fabric. I never thought I'd try EPP but it's very relaxing - thanks for putting this series on RUclips, it's really whetted my appetite 👍

    fiskars Hexie x-L SQueeze Punch are great to recycle all your junk mail postcard type paper into hundreds of hexies. Five-Inch square Charm packs can be cut easily into 2 1/2 squares. 1 five-inch charm will make 4 squares to cover 4 hexie shapes. You can trim the corners later, after basting hexie shape. ALSO, if you punch a small circular hole or HEART in the center of the punched paper/recycled postcards it will help easily release the paper/recycled postcard when it's times to pull out the hexie paper template with a small cuticle type stick to reuse hexie paper template again.

    I neverr knot when doing EPP - I just back sew. Maybe I will try this method out! I do like that Knicker knot. I also baste my pieces rather than glue as I like to stick to the traditional methods - I also design my own pieces and cut them out so it's all a bit time consuming! Slow is sometimes good though - even when you have limited spare time to sew, like I do:)

    Have you done a video on needles or a more thro segment on needles??? ... sizes and why you use what for what??? And are we using double thread... knotting both tails together??? or single thread like when one embroiders? Thanks for the help!

    I've just started playing with this, just doing hexies. The problem I have is knowing the direction to sew. I get the first one sewn to the center, then when I add the 2nd one, do I continue sewing around the center and go back to the sides, or somehow do the sides to the center (or away)? There must be a method to this madness. LOVE the lesson! Thanks!
