- We made this video with the cooperation of many people to convey understanding of the misery caused by the atomic bomb to posterity.
The project includes English translation and publication of the original text of the A-bomb survivors' memoirs to disseminate the events and prayers for peace in Hiroshima to the world, the creation of a Japanese video "Hiroshima" to be handed down to younger generations in Japan, and this “Little Michiko” English video creation.
The project originated from a chance encounter between the late Father Eric Freed and Santa Rosa resident Emiko Tominaga who is the daughter of Hiroko Takanashi. On the 50th anniversary of the atomic bombing, Hiroko published her haiku collection for the prayer and memorial services of her deceased friends.
This haiku collection caught the eye of late Father Freed who had a deep knowledge of Japan through Emiko, and 11 haiku poems were translated into English with his comments and published as "Tears of the Moon" in 2009.
The publication of the haiku collection led to the production of the video “HIROSHIMA”, which involved the Catholic Church in Hiroshima and also people who understand that the atomic bombing was not so long ago. We will continue to support this series of projects and hope that our activities will help "tell the tragedy of the atomic bomb" to more people in the world today and in future generations.

Schade, dass unsere Welt wieder im Krieg ist. Es ist leider gar nicht ausgeschlossen, dass sich so etwas wiederholt......Und gerade deshalb ist es wichtig, dass solche Erlebnisse der Nachwelt überliefert werden. Danke an alle im Projekt.

Thank you for telling the stories. I am an American, who lived in Tokyo from 1952-1955. My mother was briefly involved in helping Hiroshima victims. I have never forgotten, and the small part that I have experienced never leaves me. I tell my story, and tell the story of the avoidable tragedy of the United States horrible actions in Hiroshima. I am so ashamed of what the United States did. May it never occur again.
Thank you very much, Eric-san, for your comment. I am one of the five readers. Akiko passed away in April this year, and I am sure she would have appreciated your kind words. Akiko wrote this story not to blame the American people, but because she did not want such a tragedy to happen again. Your mother helped the people of Hiroshima at a time they were facing great difficulties! I would like to thank her on behalf of the people of Hiroshima at that time.
Yoko-san. None of my Japanese friends blames the American people, which used to surprise me. But, perhaps it is the overwhelming grief that we ALL feel that leads us to wish - and to work for - this never to happen again, anytime, anywhere. I will keep Akiko-san's story alive.
Eric-san. That is exactly what Akiko was hoping for. Thank you! Now we are planning to make a video of Akiko's sister Hiroko's A-bomb experience, so we would be happy if you could watch it. It will take some time, though.
