i installed the true dual kit on my cat eye a few years ago. Headers were the only thing id recommend. The rest of the exhaust didn't seal. hangers weren't even close to the correct locations. It ended up sitting on the crossmember under the bed. Also the pipe that goes under the trans from the drivers side was way too low and I ended up rubbing a hole in it multiple times. After a couple years the speed engineering mufflers came apart as well. The inside cylindrical piece of each muffler had come completely loose and mufflers were rattling. After cutting, welding, and fabricating my own hangers, it still makes some weird rattling noise every now and then. Overall with my experience, I would recommend Doug Thorley headers, and a custom exhaust built by a fabricator using v band clamps.
This is why I didn’t use their rear section, and had a muffler shop finish that section out. My dad used their entire exhaust system on his 2011 Chevy crew cab and the mufflers did the same thing that you described. He swapped to Magnaflow mufflers and is still running the rest without any issues.
I had the same thing happen to me. Mufflers came apart inside and the x pipe rattles on the crossmember. I had to get different clamps because none of it would seal otherwise. I put walker clamps and high temp silicone on the small pipe before sliding it in and that sealed it up.

Yes and I like the way that you put that “they say”. The real key to getting that sound is an x pipe with true duals vs a y pipe! Right behind that is “large pipe”. Their mid pipe only has (1) 02 bung on the off-road mid pipe set up because it has no cats. If you decide to run the off-road set up without cats then you don’t need the rear O2 sensors and can use the third bung for tuning (wideband). This will require a tune to turn off the rear O2 for off-road use. You should get a tune anyways when you do long tubes and full exhaust. You MUST have the 2 upstream 02 sensors because they are what helps to ensure the AFR is correct.
Yes, the truck has been tuned. You can also see the before/after Draggy Test of the stock tune vs my Whiplash Motorsports tune. Knock sensor sensitivity can be adjusted in the tune.
They actually did fit well! They don’t hit or rub on anything. I think Speed Engineering has upped their game lately and are putting out a better product than before.
Id bet that speed engineering made em well enough to install with good clearance. Im debating on the ebay headers knowing ill have to heat & hammer them to fit
@@whiplashtv2022 true duals is when the left and right exhaust pipes remain independent the entire way (no X or H pipe). However, don't want to distract from a good sounding truck.
@bogusphone8000 It is a true dual system with an x pipe. Or call it a true dual (balanced system). I have seen people do an x pipe into a y pipe. The “old school” “true dual” system had no x pipe or h pipe. I get what you are saying there, but there is nothing incorrect to say that it is a true dual with x pipe system. Because it is a “true dual” system with an “x pipe” so that is a true statement. Yes, it sounds amazing in my opinion as well.
Just ordered this kit for my 04 1500. I was thinking about having vbands welded on the end of the long tubes and beginning of the xpipe as well as the center section on the cross over under the trans pan. I see you used the good lap joint clamps. Did you get everything to seal 100% with those clamps? In my part experience those sections closest to the headers are the hardes areas to get to seal.
Man I love the sound but I can’t get over the fact that the cross section hangs lower than the frame. I’m running a 5/9 drop and I hit frame on big speed bumps and it’ll just make it worse.
Brand new to your channel and new subscriber. I really like the calm demeanor of the explanation on the videos. I just purchased my new to me 2004 regular cab short box Silverado with 5.3 liter. I am looking at some performance upgrades however it already as a corvette servo, air raid cold air intake, aluminum radiator with dual electric fans. The truck came with a Brand new Uninstalled Texas speed stage 2 cam. Whiplash TV will be my go to for how to videos
Thanks so much for the compliments and congrats on the new truck! I did a lot of videos here on the channel of my 2005 Chevy RCSB and on my current 2001 Chevy RCSB that I am fixing up. It sounds like your truck has some good mods already to get you going.
Which 02 sensors did you use front or back? Did you have to tune it for the deletion of the 2nd set or did you install bugs for the other 2 that would normally be after the cat converters. As it looks like you only installed 2 instead of the 4
You have to use the front 2 02 sensors because they help to control the fueling and how your vehicle runs safely. The rear 02 sensors are only there to measure cat performance. The Speed Engineering does not come with provisions for the rear 02 sensors.
Do you have high flow cats I ordered a the same exhaust set up as you but i got different mufflers I’m looking for that crackle sound you got and how aggressive it sounds anything I’m missing ?
If you bought everything that is in the installation video then you will have the same sound. All of the links to purchase those items are in the video description. If any links aren’t working then let me know and I can provide them. We always recommend following the guidelines that you have to follow and if you need a set of 3” high flow cats, then I can’t get you a link to those as well.
There is a direct link to the mufflers in the video description so you can check it out and even purchase them. The muffler is shown in the video as well 👍🏻
The installation was smooth as shown in the video. 1 3/4” will only give you a little more power down low, but it won’t add power up top. 2.5” pipe won’t add any power over 3” and 3” sounds deeper and better. I’m extremely happy with how it turned out. I also have bigger exhaust so if I do a 6.0 swap then it can breathe good as well.
In the “Video Description” there is a link to every part used in this video. You can click the links and total up the cost. I don’t have that number, but I can tell you that this is the cheapest way to a good quality system with an x pipe, 3” pipe, and good quality headers.
Ill never understand why guys dump the exhaust under the trucks like that. you cant hardly hear anything but drone noise from the echo of the exhaust facing the ground and it being under the truck. If you put the exhaust pointing outward, out from under the truck you'll here rasp and growl and real horsepower noise. that truck sounds horrible brother
To each their own. Some like it run out some like it dumped. I got a ton of compliments on the sound and I enjoyed it. It wasn’t that bad of drone in the cab because the mufflers weren’t chambered.

@@domenicclavillas3972 No problem. I’m not sure what part of the country you are in, but find a GOOD tuner that has HP Tuners.
@@whiplashtv2022 I’m located in Oklahoma
GPI (Gwatney Performance Innovation) in Arkansas is a fantastic place.
Nice truck.
True Dual and X-pipe are opposites.
Thanks.
It never goes down to 1 pipe. So it is true dual the hole time with an x pipe which adds hp and kills some of the drone.
Yes, everything was sealed up with the good clamps that I used. V bands are a good idea too, but will be a more expensive alternative.
How do u like the kit? Did u get with headers to? Im really looking into one for mine
This kit is a good kit for the money.
When you ordered them did they all came in the same box or did you had to buy the x pipe and muffler and the other tubes apart?
They dod not all come in the same box. The links to order all of these parts is in the video description.
You need a tailgate flip kit
Yeah as long as I decide not to do a bed cover
Man I love the sound but I can’t get over the fact that the cross section hangs lower than the frame. I’m running a 5/9 drop and I hit frame on big speed bumps and it’ll just make it worse.
Yeah you would have to have that section modified to sit up as high as the frame.
I picked up a 03 Avalance to tow the V. But now I suddenly have a need to mod the Avalanche too...
I don’t keep anything stock lol
Very informative!!!
Thanks
@whiplashtv2022 I purchased the headlight and turn via the link provided, thank you
You’re welcome. Do you have a set of good LED headlight bulbs to go with them?
@whiplashtv2022 I have two 9005 or 9004 that I have had for a while but not sure what style it takes

@@whiplashtv2022so did you get it tuned to delete the other 2 02 sensors just so I know thank you very informative video
Yup, I tuned it.
Cool will check it out and nice videos keep up the good work lol
Thanks
Looks/sounds awesome! Only thing I'd be worried about is the crossover pipe hanging lower than the crossmember . You WILL end up bottoming it out 😓
I do wish that it sat higher. If it becomes too much of a problem then I will get that section redone.
Did you do a EGR Delete when you did the long tube headers install? Or did you leave it
The 2005 model does not have EGR
What mufflers did you use on that truck sounds bad ass
Thanks! There is link directly to the mufflers that I used in the video description.
Instead of using clamps can I just have everything welded? I’m bringing this same setup to a muffler shop
You can, but if you ever need to remove any of it for any reason then that would be a big pain.
Sounds good brother
Thanks Paul!
Nice video bro what year is your truck and will that set up fit my 2000 Chevy Silverado 1500 short bed
2005 and yes the 2000 model is the same platform so it will fit.
Thx bro

Hello, it's me again lol. Is there a good budget tuner that I could purchase to tune my 2004 5.3l silverado myself?
The best software for self tuning is HP Tuners software and a laptop.
I can’t seem to find those spark plug wires, would you happen to remember the part number?
I always put the direct links to parts seen in the videos in the video description. Here it is though.

The link for the gaskets do they come in a kit or do I have to buy 2?
I believe you have to buy 2

That position for the wideband 02 is totally wrong also .had to add a new bung in a different position
That position for the wideband is perfectly fine. I used it and had 0 issues.
How come yours doesn’t have that clap noise like a lot of those other chevy trucks ?
It is because of the X Pipe! Y Pipes have that clap.
@@whiplashtv2022 also how was the exhaust smell with no cats before and after tune ?
@tonygoodman4376 none really being a stock motor. Aggressive cams with lots of overlap have the most smell.

I want a deep sound not a loud sound. What do you recommend?
I recommend the Magnaflow 12649 Muffler. Round body 3” inlet/outlet, 6” body, 18” case length. amzn.to/3P12pZt
Flowmaster super 10 it doesnt really muffle but you get that deep sound
Flowmaster was cool in the year 2000
Flow fx straight through muffler. Sounds great in my opinion and not to loud
Straight through > chambered for sure
What wheels ??

No it doesn’t. Everything that I ordered is in the video description with links to each part.

how much better is your throttle response from stock manifolds to these headers?
It is a lot better. The tune and exhaust helped the throttle response the most
07 Sierra classic 5.3can I delete or hollow out cats with out tune
Not without a check engine light.
Mine fell apart so i removed the guts with a hammer, no extra tune, running better now
did this kit come with exhaust manifold bolts?
Yes it did.

Total Flow is the brand. I put a link in the video description if you want to check them out.

I just added the links to each piece of the exhaust system that I put on my truck from Speed Engineering in the video description.

The link to the mufflers and all the specs is in the video description. They are the shortest ones. I believe the body length is only around 6”.

Your install/overall performance would have been better with 1 3/4" headers and 2.5" pipes on a 5.3...
Dammittttt niceee
THANKS!!!
maybe you should do a video addressing that oil leakage lmao
Good morning to you too troll 😂
What’s the total cost
In the “Video Description” there is a link to every part used in this video. You can click the links and total up the cost. I don’t have that number, but I can tell you that this is the cheapest way to a good quality system with an x pipe, 3” pipe, and good quality headers.
Is this a 4.8 ?
5.3
Is it cammed
No, but I have been asked that a bit after doing the full exhaust system.
I hate how you cut up your old y pipe thats worth so much money. Also you can just put the header in from the top side for the drivers.
You can’t be serious
Ill never understand why guys dump the exhaust under the trucks like that. you cant hardly hear anything but drone noise from the echo of the exhaust facing the ground and it being under the truck. If you put the exhaust pointing outward, out from under the truck you'll here rasp and growl and real horsepower noise. that truck sounds horrible brother
To each their own. Some like it run out some like it dumped. I got a ton of compliments on the sound and I enjoyed it. It wasn’t that bad of drone in the cab because the mufflers weren’t chambered.
Sounds ok, no offense wheels are ugly.
