Also, side note, Obie is panting like crazy in like every scene so he's clearly either overheating from having to redo these scenes outside in the summer with such a massive coat or he's stressed out of his mind. Also also, what kind of name is Obie
Its defo stress. His ears are pinned and he's very alert. Also just a reminder to NEVER SHAVE YOUR DOGS IF THEY HAVE A DOUBLE COAT. I know the coat might look hot, but it actually keeps them cooler than they would be without it. If you shave a dog with a double coat they never grow it back correctly. The coat acts as insulation for cool air. However I have two rescue german shepherds and I live in Florida (one is completely black) so I get the overheating, you can't keep a dog out there for that long. However the leash pulling was so obviously anxiety. And about the name... I had an 100 lbs bloodhound mix in my vet class named Obie and he almost blew out my teachers knee, he was a fucking TANK and thought he was a damn kitten
I agree with most of what you said, but honestly Obie is a really cute name for a dog. I mean I have a friend who has a dog named Hobie and that little guy is adorable
@@BeMoreFunny That takes me back to when my friends and I used that exact metaphor in a history class debate by lifting an unsharpened pencil and comparing the other side to it.
Everyone is focusing on the "hitting your children part" (as they should) but the "The UN passed a law" part had me rolling on the floor. Not only the UN does not have legislative power, but that's not how international law works, and it definitely does not depend on domestic law enforcement... And states can't even agree not to go to war, but sure yeah they agreed on that
It's basically a New World Order conspiracy-lite movie. All it needs is a shadowy vaguely European guy taking over the UN and/or the European Union and promising to end hunger and you've got yourself the start of an antichrist end-times movie.
Especially the US. No fuckin way the US would ban hitting your children, they'd sooner leave the UN (or just use their security council veto power to stop it).
yeah i bet hitler's dog thought he was the greatest person in the world until he force fed her bye bye pills. They are "loyal" but they suck at gauging personality.
The idea that parents not being allowed to discipline their kids would lead to such utter anarchy is comical cause like, there's still laws, you still can't just do vandalism as much as you want.
Not to mention, people will just be more discreet with punishments instead of doing it in public. They might even be harsher, so it's definetely more harmful than anything.
And most of the kids they show are like 8-10. I feel like a bunch of adults could take down a group of 8 year olds before the world fell into total anarchy. Like are we really that scared of a group of people who can’t even reach the high up cabinets? 😂
Yeah the whole Santa rant about how kids must be disciplined or they will become EVIL, combined with the whole speech about God and the implication he broke the kid's leg for misbehaving is giving me bad Catholic school flashbacks

But if I didn’t know how to explain something or didn’t understand what the person was getting stuck on, I would be honest about that and make it clear it’s an issue with my ability to communicate or understand, not an issue of it being “obvious” or whatever. Math usually came easy to me, but I can relate very much to not understanding a concept and having no one be willing to spend the time to figure out where I was getting stuck and to come at the issue with empathy rather than judgement. I’m glad you as a tutor are conscious of that problem :) good tutors really make a difference
I also like that the UN was somehow able to pass that law despite the UN having no such power. Okay, that one moment where a kid says "poetic" and another kid is like "what does that-what does that mean?" Phenomenal; a flawless human moment.
I kinda want a movie that is almost entirely improve in terms of actual lines and minor plot points. I want either people who *really* know what they're doing, or *really* don't. Either way, it needs a massive budget. I want either CATS levels of embarrassment, or a full movie that feels like watching the best scenes from Clue.
The first one is actually disturbing and obviously written by someone who can’t fathom the idea of not hitting their kids to teach them a lesson. I wasn’t hit growing up, and I had friends who weren’t either- or at least not for every act of misbehavior, and we actually had less behavioral problems than the kids we knew who were hit regularly by their parents. Discipline is about teaching and imparting wisdom, not mindlessly beating the crap out of someone until they are afraid of you.
fr. I was hit whenever I misbehave and I've decided long ago to never talk to these people again when I have the means to support myself. I'm gonna relish their Facebook posts about how the "devil has got to me" or how "I've forgotten my roots" when I inevitably cut ties, LOL

The fact that they recorded the movie this way is priceless.
What bothers me about Summertime Christmas is just that you can tell it was made by someone who's upset that spanking or hitting you're kid as a punishment isn't seen as ok anymore.
I have a feeling the writers of Ally & Odie thought the film would feel more “natural” without a script, but instead you get scenes like: 13:52 “We have a new stor…uh… student joining us!”
Tbh, if they really wanted a natural feel, I think they could've just written down things they said in actual conversations. That seems like a way better alternative.
@@timogul Well digital media still costs money. Storage cards aren’t free. Still, probably could have afforded more than this. But I wasn’t there so maybe they couldn’t 🤷
grandpa is hysterical for reacting to the math so cartoonishly, excusing it as "new math", then promptly ditching his own granddaughter and walking out on her. what a legend
this is far from my first time watching this video but this time it hit me that ally and obie is accidentally a really great allegory for being neurodivergent. being different and having it only be explained as “you’re special” but if you mention it any further people brush you off; asking for help constantly to try and understand what’s going on and being ignored over and over again just being told “well it’s simple so you should just do it”, meeting other kids and having them just instantly be mean for no discernible reason. even just that one fucking conversation where ally’s like “yeah well my dog taught me math so suck on that” is just like giving me flashbacks to conversations i had with other kids where i was just saying the dumbest most incomprehensible shit and being completely socially unaware and thinking that i was like owning. it’s like i’m ally and my autism is the talking dog.
No literally it's maybe the best movie I've seen represent my childhood experience with autism+ADHD (not to mention dyscalculia, which I feel like ally must have lol) and it's probably not even on purpose
Drew casually taking his arm behind Amanda ....at around/after 21:50 is sooo smooth....I hope it works out between them and they reach atleast the first base.....their chemistry is soo much more than youtube colleagues
My favorite part is when Ally just grabs Obie's leg to shake his paw lmao. Like you can teach dogs "shake". My boyfriend will literally walk up to our dog, put his hand out, and say "put 'er there!" and she'll put her paw in his hand. Shit had me fucked up
Yeah, if you do it quick enough most dogs will do it automatically, too! I tried it on my cousin's dogs and she was shocked because they didn't know that trick lol
Fun fact about Ally & Obie: the actor providing the voice for Obie, Gary Anthony Sturgis, had a brief role in the animated batman movie "The Dark Knight Returns Part 1" where he played a pimp that batman mercilessly pummels on top of a taxi.
Okay but why is the grandpa in Ally & Obie so wholesome, like his acting makes me think he’s just actually a cheesy grandpa in real life and I love it 😅
As soon as you stated the premise of the first movie, I got the feeling it was made by some hyper-conservative who's pissed that, "You're not allowed to hit your kids anymore these days." And then right away at 1:32 there's a mom angry that she can't hit her kid. 100% written by someone who thinks corporal punishment is the only effective way to teach a lesson.
i was about ready to give it the benefit of the doubt and go "they just mean discipline in general like verbal and taking things away, haha...right?" but angry santa putting on a boxing robe and threatening every single child at the end kinda ruined that
@@angelnetworks The most commonly used meaning of corporal is a military rank, but it can also be an adjective meaning "relating to the human body". So corporal punishment means any kind of physical force used on someone's body to cause pain as a punishment.
as a professional math tutor, the scene with the math tutor is fucking hysterical. This woman has been hired to help a kid learn math and is SHOCKED to learn that the kid struggles with math. Also is she supposed to be a high schooler? Cause geometry is a high school class (though you do learn some geometry earlier so maybe they're talking about that and not the class with that title)
fun fact: back when movies were first being made, they ALSO wouldn't cut shots until the WHOLE thing played. Before film language was established, basically everyone assumed that if you didn't see everything the viewers would be completely lost. what i'm saying is summertime christmas is a genius love letter to early cinema and should be given a spot in the library of congress.
This is such a silly thing to focus on, but Amanda's hair is so cute in this video, and then there's her husband Sulley ready to give kids nightmares. A true dichotomy.
I really appreciate that when Drew talks about a bad movie, he explains the process and empathizes with the production crew instead of just ragging on the movie. It's really a refreshing perspective and I genuinely appreciate that.
Coming back to this video reminded me of how viscerally uncomfortable that clip of the director telling that kid to just say something funny in Ally & Obie made me feel.
Honestly as someone who suffered auditory hallucinations as a teen and got called "special" by a bunch of adults, the dog calling the girl special @ 15:56 was SO FUNNY
Have to say this: You and Amanda look absolutely fantastic as a couple in this video. There's like a grunge theme going, that turns into the most delicious couple-milkshake, I've seen in a long while. Also; video is good.

The "that looks like your forehead" line coming from the blooper scene where the director ask the kid to "say something funny" proves either, the kid thought of that on his own, or the director on the spot made a joke about the young girls forehead looking like algerbra, and I literally cannot work out which one i want it to be

Man Santa is going to be pissed when he finds out that hitting your child has been illegal in Germany since 1983 and is illegal in 6 other countries. I guess Krampus kept that a secret from him so he would still get payed despite being out of work. I love the shot of the mom about to slap her kid, then seeing a police officer, and hugging the child instead. And that kinda seemed to help his behavior well too, but they still play it off like a sad thing.

I was just about to comment that! I didn't watch the movie and maybe the movie itself doesn't potray that as a good thing, but even if that's not the case, it's shitty to think that people still believe hitting your child is ok. Many studies show that it's better to avoid it
i hear in the sequel santa personally goes around with one of the sleighbell reigns from his sleigh and visits every single person on the naughty list. the ending of the first one tied into it very well

Point is, christians think atheists are gg to steal and murder and burn down everything in sight bc we don’t believe in magic males in the sky.

I was just about to comment that! I didn't watch the movie and maybe the movie itself doesn't potray that as a good thing, but even if that's not the case, it's shitty to think that people still believe hitting your child is ok. Many studies show that it's better to avoid it
was looking for this comment lol
i hear in the sequel santa personally goes around with one of the sleighbell reigns from his sleigh and visits every single person on the naughty list. the ending of the first one tied into it very well
yeah... the first scene (that we see) showing the mom raising her hand while grabbing the kids arm......
@@barrothontherocks3325 Santa doesn't do the punishment himself. He has Knecht Ruprecht for that.
23:56 I found out where this entire movie’s budget went.
Amanda is looking more and more like a Disney older sister. And I fully support it.
yep
I love how ally & obie sounds like you're watching it over zoom and it's recorded with someone's laptop camera
It’s incredible
Summertime Christmas has uncomfortable overtones of "Can you believe I'm not allowed to smack my kids anymore!?"
Edit: Holy shit how do so many Drew Gooden fans endorse corporal punishments, this is absolutely not the space for that
as a kid, they should be allowed to.
My thoughts exactly
@@DJHockeyGoalHorns I don’t think that’s so good
@Quiznak! as a wise person once said
“Screw them kids”
@@DJHockeyGoalHorns uhhhhhh
Minute I heard "we're not allowed to discipline our children anymore" from Summertime Christmas I felt my brain corroding
Man. Kurtis and Scott both uploaded yesterday, and now Drew and Danny today? What a happy, happy time to be alive.
Agreed 💕
LS Mark and Matt McMuscles uploaded today also
Time to start drinking and binge them all that’s what I’m gonna do 😂
who is Scott?
@@bash18 Scott Cramer, check him out, great content!
Ahh the 1940s. Famous for the end of WW2 and the voyage of Columbus. I love history
After 15 times, I finally realized he said 1942 lol
yea columbus‘s WILD and GOOFY adventures (brutally massacred natives)
Christopher Columbus' final words on his final voyage in 1942: "WHY GOOD HEAVENS THAT'S A BLOODY GERMAN SUB!"
@@Redacted_5743 That's inaccurate because he was Italian so he woulda been part of the Axis so his last words woulda been “Mama mia thats a the Royal Navy a”.
@@hedgehog3180 darn, I forgor 💀
Honestlly, Ally and Obie is a weirdly accurate childhood experience lol. A bunch of random shit occurs, adults and people with authority move you around randomly and yell at you for things outside of your control, and your only friend is your dog.
