Plasticky interior, wouldn't have gotten the color or trim level we wanted due to COVID supply chain issues, just no thanks.

I actually love the infotainment system as is, being touch-less. No unsightly buttons everywhere and no fingerprints. I think it adds to it's elegance. It took me just a few days to get used to the wheel. Not a zonk for me.
A lot of reviewers ding the “tablet stuck on the dash” look, but they don’t look like tablets, they look like something you use to enter your order at the Olive Garden. This actually looks like an iPad with no extra bulk or weird gimmicks to try to make it look integrated.
Huge zonk…. Give the option as wel as the wheel you love. Doesn’t make sense to give the choice. You’re choosing to like it because you have no choice let’s be serious lol.
I love the dial instead of the touch screen. I wasn't sure I would. I can sit back in my seat (instead of leaning forward for a touchscreen) and cruise through all my app choices while in Apple CarPlay. It's much easier to keep an eye on the road too. On a bumpy road I don't end up hitting the wrong button on the touch screen (like happens in my wife's CRV). The volume dial is right there too so everything is very handy.
your car reviews are always our go-to choice! Would love to see you add suspension testing in your future videos, so people know how it feels on bumpy roads.
I just bought the 2022 cx5 carbon edition in February. I love it. Only negative that really discourage me is the the body roll. You take a turn in this car and it feels like it's gonna flip over. I wish I had test driven it before I bought it.
I was going to get a 4runner, then I drove one of these. Really fun to drive by comparison. MUCH SMALLER, but also much better gas mileage. Still thinking it through, but I was impressed with this little SUV.
I would love a 4runner but dang they are horrible for gas mileage. My cx5 does basically everything I want and is quiet and easy to drive and park in small places
I have the 2020 CX-5 signature and love driving it. It's so much fun. I do wish the mpg's were better and of course the touch info but you get used to it. Zoom Zoom.
Moving to the US soon from India. I follow your channel from long time. Our first car in USA would be the CX5. Not decided if we would buy turbo or non-turbo. Great review as always!
I love my 2020 CX-5. I think it’s the sexiest car in its price point. This specific design started in 2017, that’s when they elongated the hood to go over the grill so it looks way sportier than the 2016 and previous CX-5 models. Mazda does the best job in balancing safety and aesthetics. I sure wish I could have updated lights and shiny black rims instead of my gray ones, but I can see myself driving this car for a long time and still being happy. Also the fingerprints on the glossy trim on the inside issue is so real so I hope they change that in the future or at least throw in free towels standard 😅
I love my 2017 cx-5. They made it even better. 65,000 trouble free service, comfort and fun to drive. Waiting for the CX-90. Affordable luxury. I've driven all the competition, no comparison!! :-) thanks for the review joe.. me and my girls love your reviews.
@@alisoncasper9167 Hi sorry for late reply. Yes, I would say it's reliable. I've done only scheduled maintenance, all oil changes and tire rotations at the 5,000 interval, sometimes a little before and sometimes after. I replaced the brakes and tires at around 37,000 miles, nyc roads are pretty harsh. So far, so good.
Aside from they stylish look and design. The CX5s and CX9s are very reliable. I have a 2016 CX9, 70k miles. I only paid for the maintenance like oil change, my wife's 2018, 41K miles CX5 same thing. We have a 2019 BMW X5 for special purposes, they say its fun to drive and I would say Mazda's are in the same level.
I have a ‘17 CX5 Grand Sport with the optional package which included heads up, heated rear seats etc. A great SUV but it could use a little more power. Fun to drive, excellent ergonomics. I also have ‘20 Toyota RAV4 XSE Hybrid. Great on gas, nice room decent acceleration. But no memory seats, uninspiring ride and lots of wind noise. I would buy another CX5, in fact, I’m waiting for the total redo. The ‘22 is nice but basically the same as the 2017. Great videos! Love your content
Diehard Toyota/Lexus fan here…but the CX5 blows the RAV out of the water and competes head to head with the Lexus NX. Drive them and compare. Cancelled my NX order and got the Signature/turbo CX5….loving it! Unbelievably fun to drive! Zoom zoom…
Having owned the 2019 Rav4, I can say that the Rav4 interior just feels cheap and plasticky. Also, it's not the most soundproof car, the wind noise are loud when you're driving on the freeway. Mazda on the other hand, you can really tell the effort their design team put into the design, from exterior to interior. I was able to test drive the 2022 CX5 last week and I was stunned by the quality and driving experience. The one thing Rav4 beat CX5 is the gas mileage.
Please help me choose. I just get rid of CRV because of the visibility and car like looks inside. I am 5 ft. What would you recommend besides CRV? I drove RAV4 and Hyundai Tucson which is very comfortable. What should I go for next.
this is definitely the best looking compact SUV out there...it just doesn't have enough tech for me compared to some of the others. if i could combine all the tech from the 2022 tucson and put it into a cx-5, i'd have my dream car lol
@@Cardenaslga the infotainment system is the big kicker for me. there's no wireless charging and it's not touchscreen, which is something i really enjoy in my current car. the digital gauge cluster in the tucson is pretty cool too, but that's more of a preference thing. tucson also has parking assist to where it can back out of parking space by itself. also, it's 2022 and there's still no hybrid trim? i know the cx-50 is coming but its just not the sameee.
Love my 2020 CX-5. I would definitely consider upgrading to a 2022 CX-5 or the new CX-50. Test drove a Rav 4 and there was no comparison. Couldn’t wait to get back to my Mazda. The Rav 4 seemed very stiff to me and not comfortable to drive. Will stick to Mazda.
I have a 2012 Mazda 3 which I absolutely LOVE still to this day because she still looks great, drives amazing and has close to 180k miles and going, going. I have been looking at Rav4's and do love the look, wanted a hybrid can't get me hands on one, so I haven't been able to drive one, but after watching your review, I may just stick with a Mazda CX-5, the fact that it drives so smoothly has always been a big factor for me and the kick it gives you when you need to accelerate when you need it is a big one for me. Only issue is how my husband is going to take it, he's been working so HARD trying to get me that RAV4 talking to multiple dealerships 🤦🏽♀️😬🤷🏻♀️ thanks for the great reviews I've been watching them on the different cars I've been wanting. I also like how they extended the window in the front towards the side mirrors, you don't have such a big blind spot now. Thanks again
I bought a 2018 CX-5 GT with the package for my first car. So happy I did. It’s aging well and is so reliable. Although its a few yrs old, I feel like I’m driving a newer car and it has a luxury feel. I’m loving it! Mazda did a great job with the CX-5s!
@SnowBoarder&Skier yes...seems like we don't need anymore crossover, but they (Mazda) need them for sure, since all those great cars they make still can't compare in term of sells compare to the less good CR-V or the newer RAV4
I recently rented a RAV4 to see if I like it. Sadly I don't like it as much as I'd hoped so next up on my list is the CX-5. I'm using your reviews as my reference point, Joe.
Finally someone did a 2022 Mazda CX-5 video , if you ever get a chance please do the 2022 Mazda CX-5 Signature model I have been dying to see that trim .
I’m a fan of your videos, but I believe you reported 2 things that might be wrong. I think those wheels are 19”, not 18. I couldn’t find a cx-5 in any trim level that offer 18’s And your 7.3 seconds 0-60 time is probably the turbo, not the standard engine you were reviewing, I read it closer to the mid 8 second range for the normal aspirated 2.5
@@rick8125 Yes it is. I literally have a spreadsheet with all of the specs for mutliple cars that I made myself. Go ahead and search online. I didn't pull those numbers out of thin air.
@@rockinggator969 non turbo is not 7.2 sec!! Spreadsheets?? It’s much closer to low 8’s. Which might not seem far from your claimed 7.2, but driving 50plus MPH is 10-12 car lengths slower , maybe your talking a front wheel drive only, a southern vehicle. Re-check Car&Driver mag, Motor Trend, etc.!!! All have it low 8:00 range
@@rick8125 It seems I pulled that 7.2 number from a website of lesser quality. I just did a larger search and indeed most sites have it between 7.9 and 8.3 My bad. That being the case, the non-Turbo is darn slow especially considering the low fuel economy. The Rav4 Hybrid does 0-60 in 7.3 seconds and gets much better gas mileage. I know they are different animals, but the Mazda fuel economy is really an achilles heel imho. The turbo is well worth it for the huge jump in performance with only modest loss in fuel economy.
Love the different examples of items or food you come up with for storage spaces 😂 It's important to know how many G.I Joes one can carry in the center console. Keep up the great work!
Test drove awd Rav4 LE. For less money we are getting a Mazda CX-5 S Select which gets features not on the Rav4 le (advanced keyless entry, push button start, electric drivers seat, heated seats, dual zone auto climate control, leather steering wheel, leatherette seats, rear usbs, auto headlights, auto leveling headlights, alloy wheels, daytime accent lights, and blind spot monitoring. Thanks Joe for this video. 👍🏻
I have a 2021 in this color combination and I have fog lights on mine. I am on my 5th Mazda. All have been fun, reliable, affordable, and a pleasure to drive for the price.
I wanted to purchase the 2.5 turbo CX5. Having owned both the RAV4 and the Rogue I was ready to try a different MFG. I was almost sold until I saw the lack of touch screen. Kind of bummed as the turbo 2.5L V4, ride quality, fit and finish, audio system, wheels, and AWD made it almost a perfect crossover SUV in the price range I wanted. The search continues. Thanks for the review as it helped me make up my mind. My apologies for being such a techno snob. Flame on.
Mazda is the only company which makes you feel the touchscreen is not necessary at all. The options laid out in the menu are so easily navigable through the dial, that you will simply forget that there exists a touchscreen infotainment in cars.
Appreciate the shout out to us up here in Michigan! And yes, you are correct! We do have some of the worst roads up here. Ugh! But who knows, I may soon be moving down to your neck of the woods, Joe! Thanks again for another fun review and hey Lori!
Great refresh on the CX-5, really the only hold up for me is wanting to see what the new CX-50 is going to be like, early images of the CX-50 look fantastic!
I have been interested in the CX-50 too but I keep coming back to the CX-5 because it looks so much better to me. The CX-50 has too much plastic trim all around the outside and I don't like the big emblem on the hood. I'm afraid it's going to be a be price jump too. My son is fine with the CX-5 size so I think this will be it for him.
@MarsTech I know of no other car that does not memorize the side mirrors if it has seat memory. It is a ridiculous oversight on a $30K+ vehicle in my opinion.
Nice review as always. You didn't mention if the driver's seat is any more comfortable than before. What is your take? One of the reasons I didn't pull the trigger on it in the past is that I thought that thigh support and comfort was lacking in the driver's seat. Is Mazda's claim of improved seat comfort in the '22 marketing shtick or did you think there was real improvement. I await your kind reply. THANKS!
The seats felt good to me, but they always have so I am not sure that I am the best judge for you on that. I think body type will also play a huge roll.
This was my exact issue! I almost bought one but couldn’t find a comfortable position with the drivers seat. I feel like it was either a lack of thigh support or range in the tilt. I can’t get an answer on if the seat was changed so I guess I’ll wait till my local dealer gets one that I can sit in,
Mazda mentioned modifying the comfort of the seating in their press release. Users on Reddit have reported them being 15-20% softer but good to check it out yourself. I always found the ones in our 2021 Turbo too firm for my preference but found the lower trims to be more acceptable.
On my 2021 CX-5 leather seats the seats/sides were really stiff…thankfully they have softened up and are much more comfortable now. Just takes time to break in.
Is the screen easy to navigate when driving for example getting navigation, looks like it might be difficult trying to steer and having your hand far from the screen, or will it be something you have to pull over for?
Thanks so much for this awesome review! I decided to go for this exact model and trim with the exception of colors. I got the silver with black interior. Love the wheels and tires! Much better than the alloys, but nonetheless, really looking forward to new adventures with this vehicle! Love all your reviews and videos!
Won't lie, I'm going to miss the CX-3 in its original form. The CX-5 is definitely a good looking compact SUV. I'd say better styling than the current, boxier, angle lines RAV4. Though both should prove extremely reliable. I can see myself in either one as my next vehicle. I tend to keep my vehicles for over a decade. Both should age well in terms of styling and reliability.
Bought the Signature trim, minus Turbo engine. Super happy with the styling, as good as luxury SUV. And very smooth drive. Was driving Audi Q5 earlier and very pleased with what Mazda offers at a lower price range.
Hey Joe and Lori (and everyone else who read this comment) how are you. Hi Joe and Lori thanks for bringing to us this already beautiful SUV and now it's a bit more modern with the new refresh. Personally I didn't think that Mazda had to do a refresh to the cx-5 because it's already a elegant SUV, but I mean "the more the merrier". Now I think that Mazda make 1 of the best looking vehicles for a "mainstream" brand, but I'll say it's more of a "premium" brand from the elegant lines to the beautiful interior (main zonk is the "touch screen"/ center screen). But they have competition like the Lexus NX, Volvo XC60 (which is also a beautiful brand), Audi Q5, Mercedes GLA-GLB, Jaguar F-pace, BMW X3 and ect. ... Which one would you choose the Mazda to all the way to the Audi SQ5 sportback
Does 2022-2023 CX-5 have rear AC vent as a standard for all CX-5models ? Example the 2022 Toyota Camry, you have to get the XLE or XSE for rear AC vent.
Hey great review like always. Just wanted to let you know this Cx 5 is actually the s premium edition. The s preferred doesn't come with some of the goodies like the 19 inch wheels and bose system. Cx5 wasn't even on my radar until I seen them on your channel. Love my new car Thank you for that 👍
Such a beautiful car, love the updates and the best interior. I’d love to a see a review on the turbo signature. I just wish there was a hybrid version!
I got 2022 mazda cx 5 and have a question. When pressing accelerator I can hear high frequncy like wind sound. It gets louder when I press accelerator harder is it normal?
I got the 2022 CX5 Select trim. Reminds me of my Grand Cherokee Laredo like 23 years ago. Everything seems to be ala carte-paying 200.00 for a retractable cargo cover that is always standard in Hyundai and Subaru. I’ve adjusted well to the dial infotainment center. It’s just a relief to be out of my lemon Impreza.
Awesome review Joe !!! Loving this refresh of 22' CX-5. LED lights look great. Mazda is doing the business right !!! I just hope that more people support them cause they're an awesome car company ❤👍🏼🔥
@@luchin777 My first "Mazda" was the Scion iA, which was built on a Mazda platform. It was so much fun to drive. I wanted a CX-5, but it was out of my price range. Maybe one day!!!!
Joe, I love the reviews, but the preoccupation with sport mode has to go. Most people don’t drive that way They go from point A to B driving normally . The on throttle stuff is fun, but it’s not the way it is with drivers Maybe you’ll use the sport to pass on the highway, but doubt it
I use the sport mode regularly to merge onto the highway. Really great for that. It's also useful in city driving when I need to be able to react more quickly to fast changes in traffic and not have to wait for a downshift.
Hey Joe, great review! I've been waiting to see this new Mazda CX-5 for awhile and really glad they are starting to pop up. Just to note, I believe those front turn signals are new and LED as well, not the standard incandescent bulb it used to be, albeit its a little small though and maybe could've been integrated better but just thought I would point it out. Always appreciate a full led setup, can't stand the combination lighting on some of these cars it's just takes a lot away from the look and perceived quality and style IMO. Keep up the awesome work, thanks again for the videos!
Having owned both vehicles I can easily say the CX-5 is superior in every way to a RAV4. I at least a brand new RAV4 and returned it in 30 days it was garbage I hated it. The CX-5 is such a nimble comfortable and attractive vehicle I really like it
Actually, the headlights has remnants of the Ford Mustang because Ford still has stake in Mazda. Most times, when driving at night, I assume a Mustang is coming up behind, but 9/10 its a Mazda because they have same front end with the running lights, similar to the Mustang.
I have already put my money on a 2021 CX-5 CE Turbo AWD, and I haven't been disappointed. The mechanics of the 2022 CX-5 can't be too much different. Instead of getting rid of the fog lights, Mazda should have improved on them. Increasing the horsepower to 256 is a plus.

Huge zonk…. Give the option as wel as the wheel you love. Doesn’t make sense to give the choice. You’re choosing to like it because you have no choice let’s be serious lol.
That's true not as ugly rav4 or corolla
I love the dial instead of the touch screen. I wasn't sure I would. I can sit back in my seat (instead of leaning forward for a touchscreen) and cruise through all my app choices while in Apple CarPlay. It's much easier to keep an eye on the road too. On a bumpy road I don't end up hitting the wrong button on the touch screen (like happens in my wife's CRV). The volume dial is right there too so everything is very handy.
Just found out the screen is touchscreen compatible with Apple and Android.
your car reviews are always our go-to choice! Would love to see you add suspension testing in your future videos, so people know how it feels on bumpy roads.
you should most def listen to more than one person
I would like to see him do sound decibel readings in the car at highway speeds at 70mph.
I just bought the 2022 cx5 carbon edition in February. I love it. Only negative that really discourage me is the the body roll. You take a turn in this car and it feels like it's gonna flip over. I wish I had test driven it before I bought it.
You didn't drive the car before you bought it? Uhhh who does that? U I guess.
My first Mazda... I have a 2021 CX5 (GTR) for 10 months, and every time I drive it I love it even more. So yes, I would absolutely buy it again.
I like the look of the CX-5 better than the RAV4.

Moving to the US soon from India. I follow your channel from long time. Our first car in USA would be the CX5. Not decided if we would buy turbo or non-turbo. Great review as always!
You will end up a Honda, no Indians drive a Mazda here.
I went non turbo, better mpg and the hp was fine for my style of driving
I went with the CX5 and I love it!! The white is gorgeous and I love the design both inside and out.
Ah yes, the catfish look. Just like the ford mustang.
The front turn signal is LED. It’s just a bulb type rather than an the fancy strip type.
Thanks for that great info!
The cx5 turbo has the fun driving I did not find in the Rav4. Definitely the best in its class
CX5 has better build quality , in comparison to the Rav4
I love my 2017 cx-5. They made it even better. 65,000 trouble free service, comfort and fun to drive. Waiting for the CX-90. Affordable luxury. I've driven all the competition, no comparison!! :-) thanks for the review joe.. me and my girls love your reviews.
Would you say it’s reliable? I’m looking to buy a Mazda for the first time
@@alisoncasper9167 Hi sorry for late reply.
You are so very right about that!
Bought my first CX-5 in 2019 based on your reviews. Just recently bought the new 22 CX-5 in the white :) Keep up the great reviews!
Zoom zoom…
I totally agree with you!
Excellent points Eric! Well done and thank you for sharing!

this is definitely the best looking compact SUV out there...it just doesn't have enough tech for me compared to some of the others. if i could combine all the tech from the 2022 tucson and put it into a cx-5, i'd have my dream car lol

The top trim has more tec than u need. Radar cruise control, blind spot monitors, heads up display, the list goes onnnn and onnnn

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this one.
it's weird that they didn't put touch screens in the refresh CX-5.. the 2022 MX-5s come w/ touch and the wheel.
Tell me about it! Very confusing!
How does this compared to the Nissan Rogue, is a Nissan Rogue considered a compact or mid size suv?
It is in the same compact SUV class as the Rogue. It drives nice and has a better engine and transmission.
I bought a 2018 CX-5 GT with the package for my first car. So happy I did. It’s aging well and is so reliable. Although its a few yrs old, I feel like I’m driving a newer car and it has a luxury feel. I’m loving it! Mazda did a great job with the CX-5s!
Between chevet trax and this mazda cx 5. Which would you choose ??

@SnowBoarder&Skier But it actually looks good
@SnowBoarder&Skier yes...seems like we don't need anymore crossover, but they (Mazda) need them for sure, since all those great cars they make still can't compare in term of sells compare to the less good CR-V or the newer RAV4

We only get naturally aspirated petrol versions in Europe, but we also have diesel versions.
We also can get the CX-5 with a 6MT.
We don't get diesel versions anymore because Mazda already killed off the Skyactiv-D in the US.
That is very interesting Dave.

I’ve got hooked Mazda about a month ago by getting to drive one through valet services. I driven so many cars, but the Mazda 6 stood out me.
The daytime running lamps remind me of Infiniti’s Q50 taillights, which I love.
Good eyes!
One of the best reviews! The camera work was great. Awesome!
I’m a fan of your videos, but I believe you reported 2 things that might be wrong. I think those wheels are 19”, not 18. I couldn’t find a cx-5 in any trim level that offer 18’s
And your 7.3 seconds 0-60 time is probably the turbo, not the standard engine you were reviewing, I read it closer to the mid 8 second range for the normal aspirated 2.5
The Turbo is 6.1 seconds and the non turbo is 7.2. He is accurate on the 0-60 time.
@@rockinggator969 non turbo is not that quick! You can find that info on many other You tube videos
MAZDA CX 5 or RAV 4 XLE? which one should I buy? Im confused.

Flame on.
I think the 2024 comes with a touch screen now
Joe you mentioned the turbo is available on higher trims, I believe Mazda up'd the HP to 256 on premium for 2022.
My very first Mazda SUV!! Nice video Joe.
Mazda is the only company which makes you feel the touchscreen is not necessary at all. The options laid out in the menu are so easily navigable through the dial, that you will simply forget that there exists a touchscreen infotainment in cars.
That is a great point!
What's funny is if the CX-5 had a touch screen I find it would be difficult to reach it while driving.
Huge question....does the seat memory also memorize the side mirrors? Ridiculous this was not on my son's 2019 CX-5 Signature.
Not that I know of.
@MarsTech I know of no other car that does not memorize the side mirrors if it has seat memory. It is a ridiculous oversight on a $30K+ vehicle in my opinion.
The CX-30 does the side mirrors with seat memory. Interesting that the CX-5 doesn’t.
@@andrewharris-schulz356 Thank you. I will be sure to check it out when they hit the lot.
Hi. How much did you get it for? I’m trying to figure out a fair price with the insane market rate adjustments.

What's up with the barely there front turn signals? They will be washed out at a longer viewing distance and at night with the headlights on.
I know right!
Love my cx3 but space wise just not a very practical car trading it in this year for new cx 5
Bought the Signature trim, minus Turbo engine. Super happy with the styling, as good as luxury SUV. And very smooth drive. Was driving Audi Q5 earlier and very pleased with what Mazda offers at a lower price range.
Hey Piyush, are front seats comfortable? Read few negative reviews about it
Wow literally for the price point I am very pleased with the quality you are getting. Cars with all these amenities would be like 46k and up
Just ordered my 2022 CX-30 this week. Can't wait until your review on that comes out.
I would actually pocket the money and go CX-5!
They actually took the elegance away and became more sporty, aggressive The new wheels transformed an elegant car and made it less so
@@Mrtellitlikeitis I know, tbh I don't think it needed so much of a refresh on the exterior, but I would love a touch screen

Joe, I love the reviews, but the preoccupation with sport mode has to go. Most people don’t drive that way They go from point A to B driving normally . The on throttle stuff is fun, but it’s not the way it is with drivers
Maybe you’ll use the sport to pass on the highway, but doubt it
I use the sport mode regularly to merge onto the highway. Really great for that. It's also useful in city driving when I need to be able to react more quickly to fast changes in traffic and not have to wait for a downshift.
I really do not like the inner positioning of the front turn signal. And why is it so difficult to have an Aux port in all their trims?
Very good questions.
Awesome review of the new CX5 👏
I really appreciate you saying that Tiffany!
Is there white outside but the sit are all black?
Hey Joe, great review! I've been waiting to see this new Mazda CX-5 for awhile and really glad they are starting to pop up. Just to note, I believe those front turn signals are new and LED as well, not the standard incandescent bulb it used to be, albeit its a little small though and maybe could've been integrated better but just thought I would point it out. Always appreciate a full led setup, can't stand the combination lighting on some of these cars it's just takes a lot away from the look and perceived quality and style IMO. Keep up the awesome work, thanks again for the videos!
You're correct! Also, on higher trims the black cladding around the wheel wells are painted too, which is a really nice touch.
In the summer of 2020, my family rented a silver Toyota RAV4 LE from an Ontario car rental company, the seat is very tight.
Having owned both vehicles I can easily say the CX-5 is superior in every way to a RAV4. I at least a brand new RAV4 and returned it in 30 days it was garbage I hated it. The CX-5 is such a nimble comfortable and attractive vehicle I really like it
Those new headlights look more like a BMW than the new BMWs :D good job Mazda! (Also, those are the tiniest front turning signals lol)
I know right!
Don’t ever disrespect bmw like that
@@AAhmad3449 Don't disrespect MAZDA like that lol, BMW doing sucks recently with their design, and that's including their headlights game
They used to benchmark BMW if you go in a 2018 3 model and look at the old bmw interior youll see the comparison
This must be one of the best compact SUVS indeed
💯 for sure!
Why would you "zonk" the front turn signals?
Staying with Toyota RAV4 all the time 😀
Nothing wrong with that at all.
