The VALUE of what you're getting in a CX-5 vs. a RAV-4 is a no brainer. My wife and I looked at both. We went with a 2021 CX-5 Carbon Edition AWD (we bought it last year). The feel, the build quality, the reliability, the fun factor, the looks, the design thoughtfulness (both interior and exterior), the user friendly touches... when you get a higher trim level CX-5, it feels like you stole someone's Audi. Every single day when we get in our car, my wife can't stop saying "I love this car!!!" If we had gotten the RAV-4, not only would we have paid more money, we would have settled. Plasticky interior, wouldn't have gotten the color or trim level we wanted due to COVID supply chain issues, just no thanks.

I bought a ‘21 CX-5 touring last February. This vehicle is SO much fun to drive. I test drove a Rav 4 before I took the CX-5. The rav engine to me had a loud whine to it which was noticeable inside. This one, is quiet inside. The CX-5 is so much fun to drive.

After getting our CX30 Turbo, I can see why Mazda has such a cult following. The execution is just supreme - everything I want, not really anything I don’t, the fit and finish is great and the interior appointments are above the competition. The “older” drivetrain to me just means it’s that much more dialed-in and reliable.
You can almost feel the passion with which these cars are designed and assembled.

totally agreed. I have a CX30 2.5 GTX and it's absolutely amzing in reliability, I tested the new GLA and the plastic in the cabin sounds a lot when you press it (for example the vents) and the central part woobles a lot when you try to move it. At the other side, the X1 feels too basic and cheap. I saved some money in the car and also in the insurance monthly payment and the finish of the car is clearly aiming for luxury models.

So glad i got a 2021 cx5 carbon edition turbo. Instead of waiting for a 2022. 2021 carbon edition looks so much more aggressive, not only does it look more aggressive it is since Mazda decided to take out the turbo engine. Another knock is they took out the BOSE sound system. What they should of done is kept it the way it was and added the adaptive LED headlights and LED taillights. That would of been a for sure home run

I love the design of the Cx-5, the only two gripes about it is that it's somewhat small and two it needs a significant improvement with MPG. I know that's what the CX-50 is for but it'd be nice if CX5 could still offer that too.

Cx50 isn't really bigger inside. Much less headroom and smaller window, the Pano roof doesn't overcome. Hard Plastic on center console and surprisingly wooden unsupportive seats all around. Cx50 much nice inside. Cx30 base much nicer than sister Cx50. Cx50 is loud wait, LOUD inside. Cx30, Cx5 is luxury car quiet compared. Best ride shouldn't be the Cx30, but it is. Cx30 is @ 2 seater for avg NA human. Cx50 should of had much better rear seat comfort, it doesn't, and same quality interior bas Cx30, it doesn't. Wait for the new Honda CRV. I can sit back in my seat (instead of leaning forward for a touchscreen) and cruise through all my app choices while in Apple CarPlay. It's much easier to keep an eye on the road too. I love my 2020 CX-5. I think it’s the sexiest car in its price point. This specific design started in 2017, that’s when they elongated the hood to go over the grill so it looks way sportier than the 2016 and previous CX-5 models. Mazda does the best job in balancing safety and aesthetics. I sure wish I could have updated lights and shiny black rims instead of my gray ones, but I can see myself driving this car for a long time and still being happy.
Also the fingerprints on the glossy trim on the inside issue is so real so I hope they change that in the future or at least throw in free towels standard 😅

I have a 2012 Mazda 3 which I absolutely LOVE still to this day because she still looks great, drives amazing and has close to 180k miles and going, going. I have been looking at Rav4's and do love the look, wanted a hybrid can't get me hands on one, so I haven't been able to drive one, but after watching your review, I may just stick with a Mazda CX-5, the fact that it drives so smoothly has always been a big factor for me and the kick it gives you when you need to accelerate when you need it is a big one for me. Only issue is how my husband is going to take it, he's been working so HARD trying to get me that RAV4 talking to multiple dealerships 🤦🏽‍♀️😬🤷🏻‍♀️ thanks for the great reviews I've been watching them on the different cars I've been wanting. I know they are different animals, but the Mazda fuel economy is really an achilles heel imho. The turbo is well worth it for the huge jump in performance with only modest loss in fuel economy.

Hey Joe and Lori (and everyone else who read this comment) how are you.
Hi Joe and Lori thanks for bringing to us this already beautiful SUV and now it's a bit more modern with the new refresh. Personally I didn't think that Mazda had to do a refresh to the cx-5 because it's already a elegant SUV, but I mean "the more the merrier".
Now I think that Mazda make 1 of the best looking vehicles for a "mainstream" brand, but I'll say it's more of a "premium" brand from the elegant lines to the beautiful interior (main zonk is the "touch screen"/ center screen).
But they have competition like the Lexus NX, Volvo XC60 (which is also a beautiful brand), Audi Q5, Mercedes GLA-GLB, Jaguar F-pace, BMW X3 and ect. ...
Which one would you choose the Mazda to all the way to the Audi SQ5 sportback

I have already put my money on a 2021 CX-5 CE Turbo AWD, and I haven't been disappointed. The mechanics of the 2022 CX-5 can't be too much different. Instead of getting rid of the fog lights, Mazda should have improved on them. Increasing the horsepower to 256 is a plus.
