New subscriber here. Love the content, love watching a different style of hunting. I hunt the big wood of north-central Ontario. The hunting here is quite different lower deer numbers and big blocks of timber so we hunt with hounds or tracking. Excited to get into some more of your content, cheers from Ontario.

Thanks so much for watching and subscribing!!! Greatly appreciate it!!!
And yeah, it's so interesting that there are so many different type of hunting with the same game. Southern Saskatchewan there's a lot of truck hunting and long distance precision shooting, but in northern Saskatchewan there also is a lot of bush hunting with iron sights, as well as tree stand hunting you name it! I have been trying to hunt in the bush too this year, but haven't had too much success. Haha..
I'm glad to hear that you are liking the content tho, thanks again for watching!!!

Awesome shot Lu. I am from Ontario as well but have toured a ton of Saskatchewan especially the South/ Southwest and love the long views. I am guessing you are south central/west by the scenery? (Not trying to get down on your hunting spots) lol . would love to move that way. I’m in the market for a longer range/ larger rifle than i have. What are you guys running? I have heard that the .308 and 30/06 are still very popular in the west.
Hope i didn’t ask too many questions! Josh

Not at all Josh!!! Thanks so much for watching and commenting!!! You are dead on with the area, and it is an awesome part of the province.
The rifle that I've been using the last couple of years is a .308 WIN. It have been great, should be above to drop any deer within 400 yards no problem. Very easy to find bullets and relatively cheaper bullets too. That would definitely be the caliber I'd recommend!! If you are looking to shoot even further than 400 yard and larger game, you may want to look at something with more energy like the 300 wmg.

@@LuRanOutdoors Thanks Lu! Yep the south central area i love. I’m honestly thinking of heading that way soon and would love to get in touch. Awesome advice on the guns. Honestly no point in blowing your shoulder off if not needed. I have really been looking in that .308/ 30/06, 7mm rem mag or bigger caliber. Like you say though the availability of ammo and price is also a pro for the 308. I actually ran across your other videos. You like the Tikka?

No worries at all! If you don't shoot anything bigger than a deer, the 270 win might actually be the best caliber for deer hunting. That's what I used before getting the 308 and loved it. But ever since covid, there has been a shortage in ammo for 270, I could not find ammo last year for it without spending way too much money, and that's why I got the 308 instead. And yes, for the price I would recommend the Tikka everyday! It's been so nice! Light, accurate, the action is second to non, and won't break the bank. The limbsaver pad swap is the only thing I'd do to it tho.

Nicely done. How is chronic wasting disease out your way this year? I heard it was bad in SW Sask.

Thanks very much!! I think it has been bad in recent years, including this year. However with the dramatic decrease in numbers last winter, I think it'll start to get better!
