You have to chuckle when you turned off US 40 onto C 94 the BIG sign telling you there is nothing for miles ahead. One of my favorite drives when going to Ft. Carson to see my son.
I drove from Bents Fort NHS to Burlington while on vacation in 1990. I drove right by the Sand Creek Massacre NHS which I had read about and through Cheyenne Wells. When I got to Burlington I stopped for gas and the wind was so strong that when I opened the door to the motorhome it slammed into the side of it. The wind was howling! Always enjoy your videos.
Wow that's awesome, as a kid we visited Punkin Center about once a year, my Dad had friends who Ranched there. There is people there who I knew years ago. RANCHIN. 😅THANKS FOR SHARING, Great GO ROUND 😊
Fun Fun Fun. Wish I could go with you, but stuck at home recovering from surgery. I first started exploring southeastern Colorado in the early 90s. I did another trip in 2009. Love the old brick and stone buildings. I explored again near every year for about 5-6 years. Always in the summer. Summer is much better. It can be very green if it rains. I long figured I was the only person eccentric enough to care about these places. Go further south into Baca County. Check out Pritchett. Now that’s a great ghost town! There was a dead end railroad line to Pritchett. It’s been removed now but the fill is still there. Lots in Baca County. Picture Canyon. Stonington. Springfield. Lycan. Vilas. Walsh. Two Buttes…town and the lake.
The "death-go-round" at my elementary school was either 5 or 6 sided with wood benches. I doubt many survived like the steel one's you find. I keep hoping you'll run across one. 😎👍
I have been waiting to see if John would come up on one of the old tall merry go rounds like we had at some schools and parks when I was young. They had wood plank seats that were hung on steel rods coming down from above. These go rounds would swing back and forth as well as go around, so would come even closer to deserving the "death go rounds" title that the Wise Guy has given them. I remember one could get whacked good by the death go rounds as it swung, as well as being drug by it as it spun around. WHEEEE! I imagine that is why there doesn't seem to be any left.
Boy howdy, John, you sure found a few ghost towns. The first one was completely a ghost town with nothing much to see and not much information about. I was surprised about the last town having a post office with 30 postal customers. They certainly must be out in the wide open country and are ranchers/farmers. It must have been cold seeing there was still snow on the ground along the highway. Yes, I was in Colorado twice. The first time I must have been young because about the only thing I can remember about it was my family and I visited a zoo. I can remember looking down into an area where there was I think a lion or two. I think that time my family and I were heading for Yellowstone. The second time was in Colorado Springs and we visited with some relatives. Thank you once again for some memories and the trip. Happy trails to you and God bless.
For anyone who disparages the vast flatness of Kansas, know that eastern Colorado is far more desolate. As my family frequently traveled between Denver and Topeka during my youth, I was always struck by the isolation of the landscape west of the Kansas border.
Thank you! The historical information helps complete the picture! Keep’m coming please!!

Enjoy your videos. You should go a little further south and do a video of Otero and Bent counties. Much history there and a few ghost town too.
The early pioneers that headed west referred to that area as the "great american desert".

That was a great show, Eastern Colorado is desert. What did people do for a living.
You are a cool guy. I love watching the videos, much better than the fake people I see on T.V. anyday.
If you’re looking for a Ghost Town, I suggest white cloud in Kansas. It’s an old Indian town.
He actually did a video on White Cloud previously.

Since you are an educator and I am not , I’m assuming Calvary is the new word for mounted horse soldiers. 😂
Old word.
