  • Is the McLaren 720s still the best Supercar money can buy?
Believe it or not the McLaren 720s has been with us for 5 years, it burst onto the scene in 2017 with its futuristic looks and ballistic performance it quickly became the best all round useable supercar on the market.
Its breadth of ability is undeniable, but since it's launch there has been several new supercars launched, each one more technologically advanced than the last. And remarkably some with even more power and more performance.
The question is, has the 720s lost its crown as the ultimate useable every day supercar.

Matt. I almost commented before i watched the video. So glad i didn't! This is one of your best , if not the best video and review you have ever done. And you know i haven't missed a single review you have ever done! Excellent editing, locations, camera angles and drone shots. Perfection! Thank You. It is obvious your passion and understanding of this car. Yet unlike most reviewers you bring this car, super car, into the real world. Visibility, comfort, even liking it to the standard setting 3 series! You ensure there is an understanding of this British designed and built super 'super' car. You have covered every aspect and angle. Even convinced the likes of me, 'anti' super car, that it is possible to take the 720S to do the weekly shop at Sainsbury's! Speed bumps and all! Your passion and emotion for this car is obvious from the superb 'hook' opening. Matt, credit where credit is due, if your 'Masters' at Rybrook are reading this, You have nailed this! I'm sharing to all i know...
perhaps even to one who could afford a 720S. No other print or video review comes close! Thank You . Keep up this amazing work. And passion for your cars! {loved the ears and eyes comment on the sound track of this McLaren! Brilliant! A real Matt-ism!]

That drone shot at the beginning made me immediately press SUBSCRIBE. I drive a 570GT which I had wrapped in a similar yellow and can’t wait to step up to a 720 in the near future. I will always have a McLaren in my garage.

The 720s will go down as the most underrated Supercar of its Era. I love the way Lamborghinis look but they are too tight for me inside and even the SVJ can’t compare performance wise.
The 720 is truly livable daily and even a great weekend getaway - it has the luggage space and put it in comfort mode it is quiet and delivers 20mph at a 90mph pace.
The exhaust as mentioned not as loud as Lamborghinis and not as sweet as Ferrari but in track mode - great v8 burbles and during shifts great addictive pops. Meaning - still very satisfying sounds.
IMHO looks are great top up or down. Love the light signatures too - especially the rear.
Visibility is better than any other car in this class and even better than cars like new C8 which is also very livable.
The see through buttresses in the rear are both practical and aesthetically pleasing.
Unfortunately Mclaren is changing some of its warranty policies - another stupid move by the manufacturer to further undervalue their cars.
Basically the only issue with Mclarens are it’s corporate managers. They don’t know how to markedly position their vehicles and are too dumb to use part of Ferraris extremely successful playbook that still works for Ferraris inferior cars.
Mclaren gave us the best for much less than Ferrari or Lamborghini. Full Carbon tub in a car less than $1mm and more practicality and performance than all competitors in Botha it’s price range and even those above (ie Pista).
Come on Mclaren - Ferrari service 7 years included and 3 year factory warranty that can be extended without silly Mclaren type exclusions.

As a 650s owner I always looked at the 720s as the perfect super car. A 'GT' when you want it to be with decent storage space and a beast when you step on it. But I can't love the looks of it. It might be just me but it looks a bit 'ugly' to me with that front headlight design

I've been trying to decide on a "garage princess" for a while now and am narrowing my short list even further. I like the 720s however the problem I have with them include the fact Mclaren doesn't limit production. Secondly, I don't care for the looks that much, particularly in any color (sans black) they look like an Orca because of the black accents around the head lamps. Lastly, the interior is also lacking.
It is a superb performance car, off the handle really. But for me, I think there are some other cars I'd rather have at a similar price point.

All the positives you list about it are the very things that made me not want one when I test drove one. In town you forget you're in a supercar. Out of town when pushing on it felt like I was doing 30-40mph less than I was actually doing. Ironically it was too accomplished. Amazing bit of kit though.

@RybrookTV For me it was too fast for the road and too expensive for the track. Couldn't fault it as a car though, well maybe the eye sockets ;)

I've met a few (3) owners. Both had horrible problems with their 720 and 570. Beautiful cars, great to drive... the few times it's not sitting at the dealership to fix almost everything. McLaren had too many cars at the same time.

.... @ 3:00.." McLaren build this carbon tub " NO! McLaren in fact build precious little of their cars. The carbon tub is outsourced. The engine is outsourced. In fact, practically everything is outsourced. Except for the design I suppose. Ferrari on the other hand do build their engines, build their car bodies and transmission also. No, McLaren markets great cars and assembles them too, but build them? No way José!

    • @kinosgarage

By far the least meaningful comment I’ve ever seen on any platform about ANYTHING. McLaren designed and engineered their cars from the ground up. Who doesn’t outsource stuff these days?
