I worked for Mclaren around 2016 when the 570s and the 675LT were first launched. I remember it was a completely new sound for that specific engine. Back then pretty much every other Mclaren sounded more like an slightly higher pitched American V8. Even the 650S was a monster. I remember the first time I went full throttle in it, even with traction control ON the rear end completely skated sideways but caught itself after a few moments of pure adrenaline lol. I drove a P1 very briefly and that felt like a go kart, and made every other "standard" Mclaren feel like a Subaru BRZ. The 720s are definitely pretty insane from what ive seen and heard. Mclaren is known for severely underating their numbers so its probably making over 700 at the WHEEL and who knows what its making at the crank lol. Great vid!!!

I think you need to try a 765LT.... Because that answer may change. The 720 and 765 are my favourite modern McLaren's ever made, beautiful cars, insane performance, even the air intake wooshing noise sounds pretty cool too (at least I think that's the intake).

Hi Dan. Shhhhhh. You’re going to let out the McLaren secret that all the owners know - the car is wicked! The 720S is probably the fastest car I’ve ever driven. I ended purchasing a 600LT Spider which is bonkers and I absolutely love. If you get a chance drive one. Yes, McLaren’s have some gremlins, it mostly software and some electronics that is covered by warranty. Mechanically they are sound. GLWS!!
I've done a 600lt review a few years ago. I love them. It's probably my favorite McLaren

I wouldn't care what color the 720 is it's an awesome car . The Senna is very cool an I just love it but I lf I could own just one even with the price difference I'd go 720 . What DDE has done to there's really shows what a fantastic car it can be.

You should try different camera placement to better show the speed. With the camera on you there isnt really anything to base the change of speed with as you are in the car. Like regular traffic going the speed limit, would show how quick you gain on them. Just something to think about.

I like the handling in the Ferraris better, but it's still very sharp steering. It just feels a bit too light in my opinion.

I know from watching DDE and Gintani that the problem with adding power to these is the rods. Gitani replaces them with their own.
Yeah, you can do bad things with 1KHP on these with the stock internals.

Great video! My personal opinion is that if you are looking for a quick acceleration get Tesla Model S Plaid which is quicker than 720S for half the price. I understand that everyone has different taste for the cars but my personal issue with both of those cars is that Tesla does not look exotic enough for its power, lacks sound and cheaply made, as for McLaren 720S it looks like a go kart rather than a car. I still end up with 458, the looks, best sound, reliability and acceleration is good enough. At the moment I'm purchasing 2015 458 Spider with 2k miles from Alfa Romeo of Naples, and I can't be more excited and happier. Cheers!

720s is great quick go kart don't get me wrong, but it considered to be the first fatest depreciated exotic car on the market today, roughly 40% as soon as you drive off the lot. Hmmm, I wonder why....
All exotics have their issues. My buddy just spent 15k on a known issue with a cable for the transmission in his 458. My 650S spyder has been amazing and only a couple issues, but they didn’t keep the car from driving. One was the battery and the other was a latch for the door. Other than that, solid car and fast af!
This is next up on my list.. Dying to buy one of these. Waiting for the prices to come back down to Mclaren reality. The actually stopped offering the Gorilla Glass on any new 720s for sometime now. I guess they got tired of warrantying the claims
It's silly that they couldn't figure out how to stop that glass from cracking.
Looks like latest version glass solves the problem.

Driven a few and my drive in the Ferrari 296 has a leg up kn my opinion
The 296 is certainly fun
A mates mate has around 35 cars. One is a 720S, tuned to around 900hp as a track toy. He lent it to my mates son who'd done some work on it for him. My mate got taken out for a ride & said it scared him sh1tless. 30 to 150 mph and back again in no distance.
Yeah, the stock ones are plenty fast. The people taking these well past 1KHP is just nuts.
Great review, that's the only reaction the 720 should get; adrenaline and speechlessness. These are indeed insane, especially since McLaren under-reports their numbers too 🤣.

For me the cantaloupe color is the only color for McLaren. I had a couple of occasions to watch the Can-Am McLarens of the Bruce and Denny show back in the day. It was kind of sad seeing the end of their reign when Bruce was gone and Denny was left chasing along behind the Penske Panzer Porsches.

I agree. F8 Tributo is much better looking. I like the side and rear of the 720, but the front looks wierd to me. Frunk hood shape looks odd too.

So true. I start to get turned off the more these exotic cars start to look like space ships. It begins to be kind of embarrassing. Ferrari doesn’t do that. They are always beautiful and a bit understated. I’ve owned a few different Ferraris and loved them all.

It's similar speed but the power doesn't come on as linear. It's more of a sledge hammer
@@normalguysupercar oh I see. I guess Ferrari went through great lengths to keep their cars feeling naturally aspirated but with the increased torque of the turbos. McLaren is happy to give you all the torque in one jolt, which is what makes it fun (and dangerous). Thanks for the review!
It has way more drama than the F8. The Ferrari really controls its temper, whereas this one just shoots its load!

I bought a new 720s starting out I loved the performance I ran it at the track and airstrip it really ran good, however it had noises, rattles in the cab from the get go,it went back to the dealership many times,they could never get it right and the dealer support was awful, I traded at 3300 miles for another 488 I had it tuned and exhaust to get similar performance to a 720. Ferrari builds a much better car the McLaren performance is good but car is cheap junk with poor dealer support

Congratulations, you're probably the first car guy to honestly tell people that it's silly to tag on aftermarket so-called improvements to these types of cars! I mean do people really think they can better the engineers at McClaren or Ferrari!? On another note, however if I'm going to pay 100's of thousands for an exotic it better sound a lot more exotic than the 720! like an Italia for instance, who cares about microseconds faster and a billion horsepower, it's all nonsense!

I'm not sure if you've been in a 720s but it sounds far better in person. Its a brutal sound and when hard on the power it sounds incredibly aggressive. To be fair Ferrari play a much more cultured sound and the Ferrari makes great noises everywhere but the 720s sounds hard as hell at full power which makes sense given the Riccardo engine is a race car derived engine (originally the block was developed by Nissan).
That is my favorite color as well

I drove the papaya spark 600LT and rode passenger in the 720s on the track at Laguna... both are amazing - but w prices coming down... they are 'almost' the same price. NGS -- which would you lean towards? Cheers and great video! (PS - Loved the look on Dan's face when realizing he may like the 720S over the similarly priced Ferrari's) haha..

I had to choose BTW these two before I chose the 600lt. The sense of speed was better on the 600lt at lower speeds where as the 720s needed it to be higher speed. Both are very fast and I figured I didn't need to go that fast and end in jail.
My dream car is any McLaren can’t afford any of them either

i would think the new Ferrari 296GTS would be about same $ & faster -830 HP and as i recal CAR magazine recently tested the 2 ! AND about the ferrari 296 GTS said : " The 296 lets you achieve ANY speed ,Take ANY line, on ANY road ,over ANY surface " they said it was almost too fast "you barely have time to work the pedals and steer " LOL 🤣
