Rich, I worked as a software engineer for Tag McLaren in the UK in the early 90's. Back when Gordon Murray was a force of nature and we were working on the McLaren F1. Be lucky you don't own an actual F1 the appreciation of the car would totally have been eaten up with the annual maintenance. Sadly even as an employee I never got to drive an F1. I'm sorry to hear about all the issues you've had, this is not uncommon, I dare say that if Ron Dennis and Gordon were still running the show you'd not have had all these issues in one year.

Some are more reliable than others. I just value my time too much to deal with that number of issues. Sounds like he was solving for more than just pure fun that comes with a sports car.
@@darylmiller8911 any hobby takes time. So using that as your measure of satisfaction is a fools errand. This is part of growing into your hobby. They are temperamental, unreliable, challenging and costly. (Sound familiar?) but the real pay off is when you realize that YOU are the weakest part of the machine. To explore the limits of such a car is only for experienced pilots. I have a 765LT and it’s probably the best car on the planet.
Rich is is just trying to complicate his life and then justifying why he does it.
Totally agree he could’ve gotten a GTR, an NSX, LFA, first gen Ford GT, etc and wouldn’t have to deal with British build quality
I'm Glad my Love is Guitars!
It'll be interesting to see how it deals with being sat for winter.
Great video!! Very honest. I'm out in Vancouver. Huracan LP610-4 pictured left I've had for 2 1/2 years. No problems..........at all. Yet, I long for a 720S. McLaren Vancouver has an orange one I'd like to get my hands on, but I really like not having any issues with my cars. Car before was the NCII NSX. I've got a 24 year old S2000.....no issues..... I may pull the trigger, but....yeah....
The dealership was pleasant to deal after spending an additional 14k for fixing glass panels within 30 days of ownership? That car would go back to their lot immediately
Definitely
Great vid! You obviously knew to buy a used 720s, letting someone else eat the depreciation, and getting an extended warranty! Could you lease a new 720s for $25k a year? just a thought. Cheers!
No warranty for all these defects? Are warranties a “poor man’s thing?” All the issues sound like warranty related. Beautiful car though. Great video!
No, this is their business model. They will charge you premium for a car, and about 50+% of the price of the car by the repair service.
This is exactly why I sold my highly tuned gt500 for a Tesla Plaid. Been tuning 20+ years and have never had the consistent performance before with no maintenance. zero problems (except terrible brakes above 140mph so will need to get real track brakes so I dont smoke the stocks). Love The 720's and that sound!
I remember when you had the BMW M5 with the V10 that was a badass car
Looks a lovely car and things always go wrong plus if you use it wear and tear is unavoidable perhaps considered character.
I put my car away for winter with some fuel stabiliser in the tank, tyres on some carpet and connected to a trickle charger.
I found all the problems, high running costs and road damage were significantly reduced when I kept it under its cover.
Rich, it's ok.... it is just the headache of owning a supercar.... I just had my LH fuel pump go out in my Ferrari 458 Spider (considering replacing it with a used part since the new one costs like over 2k!) and the new Ferrari F8 Spider that I just took delivery of won't start... it says "Modulus Missing Incomplete Data Go To Dealer. Replaced the batteries to my fobs... nothing! Have to flat bed it to the Ferrari service center on Tuesday! I've heard that McLarens have some issues like the ones you experienced but that is one sweet car!
What could you get for 20k? An E39 M5
I love my Challenger SRT.
It's like having a trophy girlfriend.
8:58 “a weapon” “shouldn’t be sold to just anyone” This isn’t the first time you’ve mentioned limiting access to high performance cars. I get your point, but these are the type of regulations giving you the culture you enjoy in Canada.
Oh shut up, he wasn't saying it literally.
@@scuph Like I said, not the first time it's been mentioned. Car guy's get sensitive LOL!
@@skydance2012 It's been said in the same context every time, so the frequency at which he says it, doesn't make a difference.
The irony of him owning the car, while also stating that it shouldn't be sold to the general public, should be enough context to understand that he isn't being literal, but I guess some people need to be spoon fed.
Rich is not in favor of further regulation.
@@scuph You win! as I stated "I get your point" let it get misquoted and gain momentum.
One reason I chicken out buying McLaren, I bought a more reliable 2021 NSX.
"You going to pay when you play" well, I don't think so. I never have single issue with my NSX and played a lot.
Yeah the C8 Z06 is a monster Rich. I hear them screaming everyday at work since I sit next to the dynos they’re ran on. Just wait until the ZR1…
You have to turn the car on before closing passenger door? That sounds a little silly for such an expensive whip.
I watched this whole video start to finish. Awesome brother best of luck!
I’m going to be rich & successful, the maintenance won’t be a problem for me
Gd mentality
Having a high end car is commiserate with your net worth. Nice job sir!
Still watching :) The engine is a derivative of a Ford Cosworth engine. Cosworth is a British thing. I don't think I've ever heard of anything Cosworth derived used outside the UK having been in the US myself since the mid 90's. Funny you mention the computers, computers in cars will become a bigger and bigger issue as time passes. True story, the system that myself and 3 other guys developed is still used in the service of the F1 last time I looked into this. It is the oldest piece of software I ever worked on that is still in use!
"McLaren needs a 20-year-old Compaq laptop to maintain its F1 supercar"
internet for the last sentence above because RUclips deleted my comment 4 times. What a world.
Any aftermarket ECU's for McLaren's?
@@thisreallysucksbig For the F1 ? I'd say that is highly unlikely. Even on contemporary cars I can't see why you'd do it as the cars perform really well anyway. It wouldn't be economically viable to provide such a thing in my mind. I'd be happy to be proved wrong, though.
@@vincei4252 I know a lot of the older style ECU's you can't do much with. Have to get an aftermarket ECU to run ITB's for my 99 Miata. Love the sound of NA motors.
@@vincei4252 The censorship of YT comments has been off the charts lately - my most banal comments are getting nuked. You can't follow threads anymore as half the comments are nuked. This platform is long past it's use-by date for all but networks.
The red pill truth about owning supercars. Its a full time job and its expensive. Ig makes it seem like its easy and fun. If u dont like these engineered machines dont get em just to impress ppl
Your generalisation is messed up plenty of seriously reliable supercars mclaren is simply not one of them don’t shove all of them with that crap
Nice car….
Been thinking about the Glass Roof issue.
My guess is because of the removable roof, the rigidity of the body isn’t optimal.
So I think replacing with another glass roof is just asking for another 14-18000$ replacement in your future.
Time will tell. But unfortunately Carbon Fiber is the play here.
McClaren 720S looks awesome, Uncle Rich. Great buy 👍👍 I can only imagine the g-force that happens to your body when you hit that pedal to rocket 🚀 off.
My God, what a beautiful piece of art that car is.
Dodge Viper’s are absolutely killer
Enjoyable and very informative video. Only question I have is, did you ever consider a spider and in hindsight wish you'd gone for one?
Thanks for taking the time to make this.
Wow, even a custom car cover. That's what is called ownership :) Has the windshield even been cracked on this car? Weird that these small roof panels crack but the much bigger windshield does not.
Rich, you have a McLaren stored in a unheated garage? Fluids will solidify, tires will deflate, just to name a few. Get a space heater at minimum
Meh. In the Spring the fluids will become fluids again, and you can air up the tires.
Love the honest commentary and love the car, doors, cool factor over the top. Beautiful car and glad tosee you enjoying every moment of it. Great thinking on the color, have seen it with my own experiences. True comment about Ferrari dealer arrogance…
I love this video. I make cf composites, you have given me many ideas
Chassis flex the cause of the glass panel to crack?
I hope to show you my Volvo one day. 1998 s70 t5 se with 533000kms on it, Enjoyed daily. Vroom I love your mclaren alot though :)
I had a 500hp mustang and went thru rear tires like crazy I can only imagine this thing lol. But the more expensive more race oriented Michelins always held up better then all weather ones. But I live in Florida so...
Heat resistance grip?
Nice ride dude black is the only colour that suits that ride matte black looks awesome on some rides too like Mercs and Beemers
Respect your ability to afford it, but not sure if it is worth the extra that come with it. All those inspections sound like a ripp off.
The seem like a rip off right up until the day they save your ass.
@@xtnuser5338 save you from what. It's all profit.
@@lowbloodprsure Save you from some impending and possibly dangerous failure. Like Rich detailed in the video, the inspection caught a tire that was almost worn through on the inside; something that he had not and likely would not have noticed on his own. I've had such an inspection catch a cracked heim joint on a rear toe rod; something that certainly would have been catastrophic if it had not been caught before ultimate failure.
They may be mostly profit, but they DO have to pay a tech for an hour or two at least. Porsche has performed all of mine for free.
Andrew Tate explains this car well.
I have a Lotus and you can't compare these cars to normal cars they are finicky and hand made. Things you take for granted on a normal car, can be a pain on these type of cars.
But boy this cars are like you are plugged into the car.
FANTASTIC!
Porsche 911 Rennsport variants are as reliable as “normal “ cars. No excuse for the reliability of British cars in 2021.
Thank you for the vid. Even though the 720 is a beautiful car im happy im sticking with the 991.2 6spd GT3. Your 720 reminds me of the older Ferrari/Lambo's.
LoL
If I could afford a McLaren, I'd buy one! I'm also cheap, and I dont trust new tech. So all my stuff is old.
I'm sure there's others saying they could buy cheaper cars... and of course. I personally, have always loved McLaren's! I typically buy what I can work on myself, and I'm not a motorhead. I usually dont work on my trucks and cars; but if I needed to. I can. I live OffGrid, so I buy more farm and off road stuff. But I like the video! It's cool to learn!
Congrats again Richard, she’s a beauty !..
Any issues with her is just the cost of doing business, shit happens waters wet.
Thanks for sharing
Maybe I missed it in previous videos but, what’s your winter driver
I think the Audi R8 V10 is a better car for half the price .
And more importantly, with a stick shift
And less issues
Any McLaren drives better than an r8. I own a v10 plus and I’d upgrade to a McLaren in a hard beat.
V10 does sound much better than the mc’s v8 though.
@@bw3330It does not. Audi and huracan both definitely drive better. And it's not even close.
You could argue that the 720S is a little more fun, but that would be subjective. Just compare it to a different version of the Huracan or R8 and it would lose in that category as well.
It’s a mclaren 720 light will come on every 3 months if you’re lucky. But not all cars of this level have issues. A good comparison would be a GT2 RS.
Makes me feel better about the spending 6k on my Viper as soon as I bought it
This makes me feel great about the timing belt service I have coming up, seems cheap now.
No oil or other fluid changes???
Awesome video! Great breakdown thank you
We have the same jacket. Zara. Good pick.
The car is mad blacked out 🔥, dream car
Thanks for this. As an Aventador S owner, how do you think Mclaren compare to the Lambos you have owned?
Correction.... unless you're a professional race driver the track-day inspection is for when you drive the car on track at YOUR limit.
Question, would you buy an evo8, supra older one from one Paul Walker drove, Nissan skyline.
Great video! How much does an oil change cost?
What do you mean by digital assets? Crypto? If so, I don't think either the car or crypto are "assets".
Great honest video Cooper, thanks.
Suffering from TGS? (Tiny Garage Syndrome)
They say size doesn't matter, but it does. ;)
Wow. A lot of issues for a new car and very time consuming. The material quality and design issues are a concern.
Fantastic honest review.
Uncle Rich, you had a BMW in another life….what are some things to look for in one? Lots of plastic under the frunk
Can you get Tesla Model S plaids up there?
If so when are you getting one?
I will stick with my 2010 Toyota Corolla, it even comes with free gold digger insurance! 😎
For $20k you can buy a select fire ak or m16. $8k can get you a full auto mac 10.
Why did you have to pay for the glass? Was the car out of warranty?
😮 thanks for all the information 🤴🏾💯👍🏽
Bro, what's a driving season..?
