Thats not a show of respect, thats individuallity.. (not sayin hes not respectfull, but come on, hes a developed singer of his own (league even, just like Layne is)
The thing about the Grunge bands of the 90s is they loved and respected each other. A brotherhood. So blessed that my teen years were during the height of this era.
They could and did step in for each other when necessary. Layne stepped in for Mark Lanigan (Trees) when he was hospitalized. That’s one of the best things about all these musicians being such great supporters of each other in good times and bad. A real band of brothers
Yes you are spot on. The respect was there in the collaborations of different band members playing and singing with the other bands. There was no Competition or animosity towards each other. I can remember Layne talking with Kurt while they in a car and how Kurt was excited about his new Baby and then a short time later we know the tragedy that hit Kurt's fans and the Rock and Roll world.
Chris actually did justice to the original. Talk about a supergroup. You got Duff from Guns and Roses, the drummer from Screaming Trees, Guitarist from Pearl Jam and the singer from Soundgarden singing a vocal done by the singer from Alice in Chains. Wow. So much talent on that stage it's hard to believe.
Being 54 years young I've seen Layne, Chris,Duff, and I believe it's Stone, all with their RESPECTED bands, so much talent on that stage right there. Such an amazing time in my life the 80's FUCKIN ROCK
Man... This really got to me. Chris singing this song. The loss of Chris and Layne hit me hard, and seeing Chris sing this particular song... just... wow.
This is both beautiful and heartbreaking to watch. And I don't what's more heartbreaking, the thing that Layne isn't there to sing it himself or the fact that we lost Chris too, two years after this...💔

People who are found dead with nine broken ribs and a head wound with no lethal drugs whatsoever in their system, with a exercise band next to their beat up body are not People who have “committed suicide.” Chris was murdered. AIC, Soundgarden, Mad Season - all such a big part of my late teens and beyond. Amazing that I’m seeing this for the first time in my mid 40s. Love it.
@Millennial Smark Kurt sang with Lanegan (Screaming Trees) in his first solo album, Leadbelly’s Where did you sleep last night (afterwards it became famous because of the version in Nirvana’s MTVs Unplugged). The song Long gone day, singed by Lanegan and Staley in Mad Season’s album, when played alive, the saxo line sounded like Come As You Are. It’s clear the brotherhood between these bands, including Nirvana
the “grunge” era of music was so short lived but it’s impact has left a lasting impressing. Rip to all those who are no longer with us you’ve gotten me through a lot. Thank you gentlemen.
4 or 5 years it was. I remember around the time Dirt came out that it was mrore or less in full swing. By 95 it was pretty much over. I went to palooza in 95 at the shoreline and the sound was changing fast with greenday and pumpkins taking over.

The last few weeks I’ve watched hundreds of Layne’s, Kurt’s, and Cornell’s live performances. I’m not sure why, it makes me super sad every time, but I keep doing it. Can somebody please tell me I’m not going crazy?
Old Magic I literally broke down watching this because he motherfuckin badass nailed it my God now we only Chris and Eddie that's still alive now because Scott Weiland Lane Stanley and Kurt Cobain are all gone now

But what's certain is for that 5.5 minutes, I realized how much I miss Chris and Layne, both of whom were in their heyday when I was an infant.

Now this is the fucking way you remember and hold Layne Thomas Staley up!!!! Chris Cornell ... speechless...besides that dark, pain spoken tones like you could hear through Layne when he would sing.....
Very ironic and I guess when you have lived most of your adult life in depression and know darkness you can see it through another. The first thing I thought about beside just total heart break and sadness was when I watched this video when I heard he passed because I knew for him to not only nail it so close brilliantly with his unique vocals it was definitely the way he brought the presence of Layne's darkness through in the song's (not quite so dark but almost there, yet still it was dark!) I wandered if Chris was not going through some sort of depression or had just been through it in the past and tapped in to some past memories to pull the performance off to give that touch that Layne had...I still am glad he was chosen to do it and we have this as a memory to watch and will always miss Chris very much and am very very saddened by his loss, not a loss has hit me this way since Layne's....
Duff McKagan from GNR just played this a couple nights ago (video under my profile if you want to watch it) and, more than Layne Staley and Dead Season, this was the performance I was immediately reminded of. I miss them both. RIP
Not trying to imitate Layne, but to sing it his own way, is the ultimate show of respect to Layne.
Thats not a show of respect, thats individuallity.. (not sayin hes not respectfull, but come on, hes a developed singer of his own (league even, just like Layne is)
He actually did use some techniques Layne was synonymous with, like the emphasized vibrato, but not all of them.
Beautiful tribute . No one could sing it better than Layne but it’s absolutely a beautiful tribute from Chris .RIP to Layne and Chris ❤️

Amen to that. These bands help shape me as a person and for taste in music. I'm glad I grew up when I did.
