      For every dollar you invest at age 20 (~10% return) it will multiply by 88 if you leave it invested until age 65. See Mr. Money Guy for more details on how, why, etc. It is quite inspiring. Great job and keep....feeding the PIG!!! ; )

    Man, I love RUclips! I grew up in environments that were full of drugs, violence, and other bad stuff. I didn't learn about managing money or investing until I stumbled on RUclips videos like yours. These videos taught me to hope for better things, to be smarter with whatever money I have, and to make things happen. My life has improved a lot, thanks to you guys and others. Thank you for this video. My husband and I are in our forties, never learned about investing. We were told to put it in the bank. We've lived most of our twenties and thirties pay check to pay check. When we did receive a windfall we should have invested the money. Live and learn. Starting a Roth this weekend. Will max both. I've been researching. I thought I had to have income to get my own Roth IRA; now I know I can get a spousal account through my husband because we file jointly. Mind blown.

    Retirement looks good on you two!! Christina you are glowing!!
    Now serious question: what if you are in a high tax bracket and plan to be in a much lower tax bracket in retirement? Would contributing to the ROTH still make sense? We also plan to retire early in Europe but as citizens. We definitely plan to use the ROTH conversion ladder!

      Backdoor Roth- Open a traditional IRA account, keep no funds in the account and use it exclusively to fund the Roth by way of an immediate trustee to trustee transfer to the Roth IRA account. No video required, that’s how it's done.

  • @kevins3966
    @kevins3966 4 года назад +1

    As a few other commenters have mentioned, Portugal does not recognize Roth IRAs. You'll have to pay tax in Portugal on distributions (the gain only) from a Roth. You're safe for the first 10 years, due to the NHR exemption. After that you'll owe tax as long as you're a tax resident of Portugal. I would love to see you guys do a video on your tax strategy for year 11. The higher income tax and higher capital gains tax will negate much of the Portugal cost of living savings.

    Good Video! I didn’t see it mentioned, but in regards to asset allocation (%stocks and %bonds), make sure you only park stocks in this account, and carry your bonds in the tax deferred accounts (traditional IRA and traditional 401k).
    Basically keep only high earning investments in this account since those earnings grow tax free.

    I really feel safe listening to you guys. I'm a single mom and I'm trying to plan for my future and my son who is 8. I'm teaching him about money and I feel the warmth and human/family side to your channel. It doesn't feel like you are scamming people. I love this.
    By the way, I noticed that the VFIAX and others in the Index funds are about 3k starting out. Did you pay that much initially? And if you were starting out, would you contribute that much at this time? I'm in the position to do it, but I just want to make sure it makes sense. Thanks in advance.
