hi helen, please thank your family, all 4 generations (!), for allowing us a peak into your New Years. And a happy, healthy and prosperous new year to you all.
Thanks for having Sonny on as a surprise guest! I'd never heard of him until this video, and he is an absolute delight. So intelligent and articulate, and knows how to talk about food. Had great insights, both cultural and epicurean. Happy Lunar New Year! :)
Aww this was wonderful! Thanks for inviting us to enjoy Tet with your family, Helen! I love seeing non-Vietnamese people eat Banh Tet/Chung for the first time, lol. Their faces XP :D. Aww, I can tell Sonny is being nice and trying to comment on the banh tet though the flavor and texture are maybe not the most appealing to Westerners. Hope he tries it fried next time! The best way to eat it.

A happy, healthy and prosperous New Year to you, Helen, and your lovely, gracious family. Seeing your grandfather was especially a treat as in my family all the old timers have passed on. Thank you for sharing your food and traditions. 💓
Wow! What a beautiful celebration. I, like others, didn't know you were married and had a son. I would love to see a video on what you feed your son. :)
Chúc Mừng Năm Mới, Helen! The food looks sooooo good! Ngon quá~!!! Bánh chưng rán is my favorite. I ate so much in Hai Phong over the last 3 days. ^^ When I visit Da Nang again, can we meet? I LOVE your cooking videos sooooo much! I've been following some recipes here in my home in Ha Noi. ^^ Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Helen, I followed over here from Sonny's channel, and I look forward to learning to cook Vietnamese from you. Your family was incredibly graceful inviting a guest and the cameras into their Tet celebration!
how "can use a thread" --- Sonny such a lucky man to see the entire planet as well to have a wife so humble and wholesome like this. . . What a dream, truly. Wow I Love this channel for a reason I'm seeing! So great!! What a nice family!
Chuc mung nam moi to you and your family, Helen! I'm so glad you were finally able to collaborate with Sonny! You should have put his name in the title as a form of clickbait. :)
Happy New Year Helen , wish you all the best for the New Year, what a beautiful Family you have , it it's so fitted to watch it on a first day of Tết , Loved it !
Helen, I just discovered your channel and I've been binging it non-stop. Can you please make a video on that sweet glutinous rice cake? 🙏🙏🙏 Sonny made it look so yummy!!!
My mom is from central Vietnam but I've never seen cha bo or tre before. It might be because we live in Montreal though (my parents came here with most of their immediate family as war refugees) so I'll have to ask her about these dishes! In our case (on both maternal and paternal sides) half of the food at our Tet celebrations is actually homemade. My mom and my aunts often make different stuff (like cha gio, banh it, banh khuc, banh com, etc) weeks before in their free time and freeze everything so when it's time to set up the Tet altar, we just throw them in the oven or steamer and warm them back up. Some stuff are cooked/baked the same day or the day before (soups, goi, boiled chicken, banh gia lon, etc) while more time consuming dishes like banh chung, banh tet, cha lua, roasted meats, etc are bought. 😆
Hi Helen, I came here after I watched you with Sonny from Best Ever Food Review Show, I have now subscribed to your channel and I can't wait to see more videos from you :). Love from Australia Brett.

Doodah Gurl It's a glutinous rice cake called bánh tổ in Vietnamese. In Vietnam, it is especially eaten in the Quảng Nam province because it was brought over from Chinese migrants who settled there several centuries ago. It is the same thing as Chinese 年糕 (nian gao).
Owesome video, I am originally from DaNang also, so your videos mean alot to me who living in the other side of the earth. I am proud of you girl. Keep the good work. Hope to meet you some days when i get back DaNang, Vietnam
