Probably the most iconic set in the hobby. The colors and presentation are fantastic! Totally agree, eye appeal trumps the technical grade. And yes, I can’t stand creases! The backs mean nothing to me, I am perfectly happy with all Piedmonts (available at much lower prices compared to some of the scarce-rare backs). I display the front of my cards, not the backs. :) Really good video, thanks much.
I'm really into collecting Pokemon Base set, and I came across your channel just to hear a different perspective on a historic collectable of baseball cards. I don't even watch sports, but I respect what you show, and tell. I also respect the countless hours it takes for hunting down a card, attempting to get more of a better condition one. There's one thing that makes all collectibles congruent to eachother, and that is passion. I got into collecting to fill a void from the loss of a very close relative. I'm happy I did bc what I collect puts me in such a happy place. I know this is a long message, but I had to acknowledge that I really enjoy your content. Thank you, and the best of luck to you on your journey
Thank you so much, this video was very insightful and helpful on the subject. I have a decent sized modern collection (I have a tiny bit of vintage early 60's but not much) with a few PC's and recently have been reading about T206's and tobacco cards and have gotten sucked in (but didn't know where to start). I'd eventually love to obviously get some of these and then branch into early bubblegum sets and this gave me some ideas of how and where to start, definitely subscribing!
Hello! Thanks for taking the time to put this set into perspective for collectors. I am new at the T206 and have made some pickups. A veteran collector always told me to invest in the Hall of Fame players first. Of course, there are exceptions as you have stated. I have subbed to your channel and will dive in further to see what other videos you have! Thanks!
Thanks man. Yeah definitely a fun set to get into. Prices have gone up though since I made this video. I think they will eventually go down as the supply is rather high.
Beautiful collection, if you don't mind me asking , the large display of cards that were framed ,was that a pennzoni case? if so , please what size was it ? Thank you for preserving History.
I really love the history of baseball , I love anything antique, and I immensely appreciate you personally preserving history. That being said , I have started to try to collect T-206 Southern league. I have a whopping 2 ! Could you share any advice ? Any info would be be greatly appreciated. God bless you DC guy ! The vids . are great .
Hello, great video about some fantastic cards ! In my opinion ones of the best set (maybe the best set) in sports cards history. I just did a video about my first T206 card. Thanks for sharing yours tips and thoses awesome cards. All the Best and Happy Collecting.
Excellent vid. I admit..the set is intriguing (Love the colors). Didn't know they were reasonably priced. Of course this vid is over 4 years old now so I assume prices went up a bit... so I"m going to bring up a situation, and I'd like to know what would you do: 1.You know how sometimes an unopened pack is worth more...just being left alone? Okay...so let's say someone found a pack of cigs that STILL had a T206 card inside, but you couldn't see what it was....would you open it? Assuming it was a common, would the pack be worth more just remaining sealed? Looking for your opinion...
I’d probably leave it unopened. Most unopened packs from that era have the wrong stamp on them indicating that they came after 1909-11. It’s very rare to find a pack from that time period and even if you did there’s a chance you could pull a non-sports card from it instead of a T206.
I'm thinking of liquidating some cards in my collection and move into another realm of baseball card collecting. T206 cards may be the direction I go. Great collection you have, thanks.
Awesome video! A lot of great points, I'll have to check out the auction houses you listed. I'm currently at 40/52 towards my team set but I definitely bought some beaters that I plan on upgrading. I love that display case as well, would you happen to have a link to where you got it?
+maxajackson89 Thanks. NY is a tough set, looks like you're getting close though. Here's where I got the display: www.pennzonidisplay.com/carddisplaycases.aspx
I just discovered your channel. Getting started into collecting after a 35 year old hiatus. I also loved t206 cards as a kid but couldn’t afford them. Now I got some money and want to get started. I don’t want to go too crazy with high priced cards just yet. What do you think of collecting the 350/30 cards as a starter? Would you recommend a minimum grade of PSA 4? Or do you recommend instead of collecting the HOFers at a much lower grade like 1-2? Thanks.
I think HOFers in PSA 3-4 are a great place to start. You'll never have a problem selling HOFers in that grade range in case you ever want to sell to upgrade or downgrade. You could even go after a team set in PSA 3 range. That's also a great starting off point to get familiar with the set and the grades.
@@DeadGuyCardboard ive also just started getting back into collecting..... Thanks Aaron Judge.. Lol. So ive bought a few psa4 piedmont back Hal Chase cards now and it's great but i was wondering if it's worth getting these t206 cards un graded, and if so at what price?
A or Authentic means the card was altered. Meaning that it was either trimmed (borders of the card were cut to look sharper) or some other form of alteration like retouching the colors. The authentic does mean that although the card has been altered it is still an original card and not a reprint.
Cool video! You have some great T206 cards. You're so right about getting gorgeous cards in the VG/VGEX+ range at an amazing value. You also have a great eye as your cards are centered and have tremendous eye appeal. I have to upload a new T206 update soon! #vintageforever
I prefer SGC over PSA for T206's in particular. They look a lot better in SGC slabs in my opinion. Sometimes you'll see oversized T206 cards in PSA slabs and they are in weird almost bubble-like holders, so there's no consistency with the way all your cards look in PSA holders. Also at the time I started this collection, SGC was (and is to an extent) cheaper to submit for grading. But yes, without a doubt PSA graded cards sell for more. PSA is the way to go if you are looking to flip to make a potential profit. SGC is the choice if you are looking to hold onto them and display.
Just given the look of your cards, you must be patient when buying them. I’m all over the place. I have cards graded 1-4. In hindsight, I should’ve elected to do a minimum of 3s only. I have no patience and just looking to quickly fill my collection.
Yeah, pretty early on in my collecting I realized I just wanted to go after centered 3-4 T206s. I certainly bought 2s early on, but slowly sold them off and got upgrades. I feel the hobby is more fun when you're patient...but it's also a little frustrating.
When I see 2 of the same cards on eBay and an ungraded one is for $100,000 and the other is $5 then the $100k seller is looking for a sucker ? I see a lot of that.
Dead Guy Cardboard ok- ill make a video on my updated collection soon, maybe you ciuld check it out and give me some feedback and tips? Trying to collect the monster so I'm seeking lots of help from fellow collectors
You inspired me to get back to buying cards. I collected in the late 70’s and into the 80’s then stopped. I’m buying t206 cards and have accumulated 15 cards thus far. I’ve collected other things in the past but realized something very quickly in the hobby. The collecting world is full of douchebags. Lots of conmen unfortunately. Just gotta be careful out there.
I don't know if it's my computer or what, but I can't make out what you're saying. Please get closer to the mic next time. I'm very interested in this video. Thanks.
Sorry. Didn't think the sound was poor. Try listening on headphones or connect your computer to speakers. I may get around to posting another one of these type videos and I'll be sure to get the audio right. Thanks for watching...or trying to watch.
Nicely done video. I'm a fan, I've been concentrating on Topps '52 but the "eye appeal" on the T-206 cards are also spectacular.

Thanks. They're called Pennzoni displays. You can find them on their website or on the bay.

@@DeadGuyCardboard Thanks for the reply. Yeah...I was just curious about that.
Great collection! The Miller Huggins Portrait was actually the first T206 card I ever picked up
Excellent video. Great cards
I have the Ed Walsh T206. It probably won't be that hard to figure out why that's the one I picked.
I'm thinking of liquidating some cards in my collection and move into another realm of baseball card collecting. T206 cards may be the direction I go. Great collection you have, thanks.

Just my iPhone 7. Honestly most phones these days take better video than a fancy DSLR camera.
I would say one of the most important is conditions
Awesome collection of t206 cards. I am working on the set. Been fun. Keep it up
How often are the lower end cards in this set sold as fakes?
Great video

My grandpa had a Honus Wagner that he sold for just under a million
Howard Stern you want a medal douche
Congrats . Who bought it?
How much is a reasonable price for Collins collector grade? I am trying to build an athletics team set.
Nowadays you can probably get a PSA 3 Collins for around $200. Maybe a little more depending on the centering and overall look.
👍👍👍
Man love your display cases
I have a cool buyback of Vic Willis.
Do you prefer SGC over PSA? I'm told PSA graded cards sell for more but the SGC has a much better looking case.

T206 cards are pieces of art
Were do you get the $20 cards ?
Just search "T206 poor condition" or T206 fair condition" on eBay and you should find plenty of cards for $20 or less.

Does it matter which Topps Series and year Hobby Boxes to get these T206 cards ?
Are you referring to when Topps did the Topps 206 boxes with t206's in them around 2002-2003?
@@DeadGuyCardboard Yes, i see some boxes on e-bay starting around 2002 series 1, and then some are series 2 and 3 with years going up to 2010.
sweet vintage!
do anyone know were i can purchase cards like this from i really wanna get into collecting
EBAY
Don’t buy cards from EBay unless graded by PSA. Fakes everywhere

I have them all and wanna sell them!!!
How many original t206 cards do you have?
Do you still collect them?
Donadoni Donadoni I have about 60-70. Yeah I still collect them.
When and if he gets to the last card to complete the set wonder what card that would be?
Do you have any that you've upgraded that you can sell me for cheap?

They don't depreciate in value.
Truth. T206 have never lost their value.
That sucks that you need to buy a wagner to finish the set
Most collectors consider it a complete set without the big four (Honus Wagner, Eddie Plank, Sherry Magie Error, and Joe Doyle NY National Error)
