As crazy as this story might sound I am going to share anyway. Testament broke out when I was about 12, when I heard the Practice album I was totally taken by the guitar techniques of Alex Skolinck. Being a young metal head guitar player from Jersey I basically spent all my free time trying to learn every song ever made by this band. The one thing I wanted to share is that listening to this song probably 5,000 times it kept me from ending my existence in this world. Yes these lyrics is why I am 43, married for 17 years with a 9 year old son, a dog and a happy life. Thank you Testament for saving me, I would have been a statistics without this song. Anyone suffering from a mental issue please talk it out with someone, trust me it is soooo worth it. Thanks for reading, love and respect to all!!!
Still, to this day in 2024, one of my most beloved metal ballads. After this I probably go back to listen to my alltime fave from them, Apocalyptic city, in an endless loop. For me one of the most underrated metal bands from that time.
Yeah, I think respect for them has grown more in recent years. Think my first album I bought by them was The Gathering. It’s a good album, DNR is a classic, and a bold move to put out a thrash album in ‘99 when they could have easily succumbed/compromised to fit into the wave of Nu metal which was pretty much at it’s peak at the time. Even possibly all of the big 4 adapted in a way to the scene, don’t know if it benefitted them or not.
@The Metalhead Megadeath is the literal dictionary version, and is auto corrected. Do something better than pick on people.the guy probably is they biggest fan! Peace all around brother's
When I was 17 I had to get a tumour removed from my femur and have a bone marrow transplant. Listening to the practice, justice for all and skid row cassettes on my Sony Walkman helped to distract me from the pain I went through. I’m 50 yrs old now and still love Testament. I’m thankful their music was there and helped me through a difficult period. 🤘🏼

Man there was just something about Testament when they wrote a thrash ballad. Just an awesome sound with Chucks voice and the way Alex, Eric, Greg and Louie played. I was in high school when this one came out and to this day I still have my original cassette to Practice what you Preach. It never gets old 👍🤘🎤🎸
Very dynamic song with very deep thoughts incorporated into their words and music. I am sure most everyone had Testament in their music collections. They are a strong band with so much talent.
Damn, does this take me back. I remember I had a VHS of this taped from the Head bangers ball on MTV (before the MTV suckage begain). Great song, border-line awesome / cheesy video. Saw them live at Download / Sonisphere a couple of years back - still great. Chuck Billy still fills a stage with his presence. RIght, off to find Trial by Fire... Awesome intro....
Nobody makes music like this anymore. Best ballad that I've ever heard of testament. I played this song for my girl and friends at school and my girl and friends liked the song. Thank you testament for making this song that i love. I love metal music but this song is the best metal song of them.

Definitely in my top ten (ballads). There are way too many great songs with awesome lyrics to pick one song over the other. There's..."In My Darkest Hour".... "Fade To Black" ..."See You On The Other Side" by Ozzy ... "Heavy Duty" by Priest ... "Playing With Spiders/Skullkrusher" by Overkill, and Maiden's "Children Of The Damned"
What you think of Death Angel- A Room With a View.. Megadeth ballads are very catchy, Pantera Cemetery Gates is maybe greatest metal ballad ever, Metallica One is good, Testament Legacy, Ballad and Return to Serenity are great , Annihilator has kick-ass ballads like Sounds Good to Me, Phoenix Rising, Snake in the Grass
I grew up with a guitar prodigy friend who was thinking about playing this for the talent show in 8th grade. He ended up going with Holy Wars - Megadeth. Not sure why, he never talked much...never could find him years later, so much talent I hope he found happiness.

For me it's 3. Fade to black- Metallica 2. In my darkest hour -Megadeth 1. Return to serenity- Testament
Mario Finka All of them good...not as good as this
I grew up with a guitar prodigy friend who was thinking about playing this for the talent show in 8th grade. He ended up going with Holy Wars - Megadeth. Not sure why, he never talked much...never could find him years later, so much talent I hope he found happiness.
