So sorry to hear the sad news about Charlie.
Laminitis is a dreadful condition, a real medical emergency and can take hold so suddenly.
I hope that Amber settles quickly and that your sadness is soon replaced by many happy memories.
When our elderly horse died suddenly and unexpectedly our remaining pony urgently needed the company of another so we quickly took on a horse from an Equine Rescue centre and now they are firm friends and companions.
Perhaps, when the time is right, you might consider that as an option if you choose to have another pony.
    Sending you all best wishes.

Plenty of senior ponies out there needing a soft landing for the rest of their lives. She needs a buddy. I don't like horses kept by themselves. They don't like it either. They are happier with a pal.

      Yes, definitely needs company.
      I will work something out.

Perhaps she should have been able to see her brother dead and been able to grieve the lose, rather than have to just wonder as to his absence? Everyone needs to deal with separation for a time to then be able to move on.

I hear what you are saying.
She was a few yards away tied loosely to the gate. I went into the house rather than witness him being put to sleep, so l presumed she saw, but she may not have.

So sorry for your loss, poor Amber... Did she get to say goodbye when he was "sleeping"? That often helps them in the transition

She was nearby. I am not sure she saw him though. I wasn't thinking straight. I should have led her up to his body.

      Thank you.
      He wasn't old for a Shetland. 16.
I'm devastated. I seldom cry, but this has really got me.
I'm need to have a plan for Amber.
So many people in the village know my Shetlands, he will be missed , especially my grand daughters

Perhaps as someone suggested, a rescue pony will be good company for Amber.
