AWWW!!! Those tiny troopers did so great pulling those knotty tree logs! I liked the shot of the big horse looking at the tiny trooper. I can imagine him chuckling to himself and being impressed with the tiny trooper's big heart and good work ethic. :)
Roger and Dolly mean business when they get to working stand out of their way and watch them go! The shetlands have good mentors to teach them. Good job y’all!!
I've never actually seen a horse pull a tree nor a Shetland pull a twig. Thank you for your effort and putting at wonderful videos for us. Really appreciate your work and those of your friends. Give them all scratches around for me. Love from Texas.
You are so talented. Love the experiences for the ponies. I have to say, you produce fantastic videos and have lost myself in them. Keep them up, I am always looking forward to your videos!
My Dad used to use my riding horse(s) to twitch wood (our firewood) and they just love it and they loved him!!! If he sent them home (we lived on a dirt road) and he didn't come right along after them, they would turn around and go back to the woods to check on him. They loved working & twitching!!! Maine, USA
That's what my grandfather did in the early portion of the 20th century: horse logging in the PNW. My mom remembered being a small child with him and his horse out in the woods.
There remains a man near Nowra on the South Coast of New South Wales Australia who still works and maintains his great-grandfather's bullock team, hauling out huge logs, and just to keep the game alive. Of course not the same bullocks. He also goes to bush festivals with them and all the old gear. They'll stand amongst a crowd of people, and work on voice. Machinery causes much more damage to the land, and its very hilly down there.
Back in the days of logging with horses , mules and Jackasses they used the words Gee and Haw. Gee was to tell the animals go left and Haw was ho right. I know because I come from a family that were some of the original Loggers in my area of Texas.
Shetlands come from a long line of coal mining cart haulers. One should never be fooled by their size, they are terrificly strong pullers. And for anyone who has never cut and cleared trees, using a chainsaw is really hard work. You must keep your mind on the task otherwise you might lop off more than just the limbs of the tree... you did a fantastic job Emma! Very impressed with both the ponies and the felling of trees.
Great vid Em love seeing horses doing "jobs" that they used to do and Winston and co have a go at the big horses job . Think they enjoyed that gives them a bit of alternative therapy 😉 x
So cute, I introduced my 6 year old granddaughter to your channel yesterday and I wish you could have seen her face. Absolutely delighted every few minutes her face would light up and she would tell me something brilliant you were doing. (She loved the pony spa day cucumbers on their eyes) we have an American mini sure wish you could show how you get them to do tricks. Great channel thanks
Just proves what clever, determined, tough little " HORSES" Shetlands are ,my Dad used to use them in the mines in Scotland. They never had bridles, just enough harness to pull a load of coal, they worked in darkness a lot of the time ,they knew where to go and where to stop to be unloaded, he always praised their strength and intelligence ,hard times for them in the heat and dust, but they were always loved and treated as part of the work force.I'm glad your showing people just what an amazing breed they are, i love your stallion.

My great grandfather was an Edwardian haulier. He and his team of shires were sent to Sussex from Hampshire during the First World War to haul logs for trench building. I’ve never seen horse logging before so this is really lovely to see, thank you!
Since working animals are so obsolete now, it's a really cool idea to use them to help with like forest service work and stuff, since the breeds designed for it still exist. And I'm sure those kinds of places appreciate the help as well.
It was good to see their special way of walking when they are pulling a weight. It's kind of a showy gait, but they do it naturally instead of some kind of horse show exaggeration.
You inspire me so much to do things like this with my horses. Now, when it’s raining we still ride but I hold an umbrella! Both horses don’t flinch at anything now!!
Nice to see you Em! That was a super cool episode albeit rather noisy lol. Glad you had ear protection. I wonder about long term hearing damage for the logging horses? Is that a thing? I definitely would have gotten tripped up. There is a lot happening fast. The Shetland’s did so well! Cool to see them coming along. I gather most of your videos are on the paid service now? I’d love to sign up for a month and see what you’re up to.
in the 1970s we logged with pony and horses. logs and river rock from the creek with the stone boat and built 3 houses from septic to roof by hand. the rock was for foundations and chimineys
They go with gusto Emma. So much better to be teaching them to do real work for you, than all this "make work" that the horses of today experience. I do remember the days of horse logging in the forests around Canberra, would often come across a team living in the timber, a bell on or perhaps hobbled to stay. They'll learn so much and never take fright, having worked amongst that lot. Well done, great video. Greetings from Australia.
Reminded me of the story I heard about Shetland Ponies being used in the mines to pull cartloads because of their relatively stocky but diminutive builds...
Do we know yet what it is that Emma is training the shetland stallions up for exactly? Some kind of extreme 4 in hand cross country driving expedition? She has obviously put attention into getting them to be bold going through whatever sort of terrain and not much time in getting them traffic-safe so this must be an off-road adventure. She hasn't really been doing stuff with wheeled vehicles so it may be this will be some kind of sledging?! Maybe in SNOW?
Twigging? Are you kidding? Logging horses do better the more weight they can litteraly throw in. Thats the limit for tinier or lighter horses in that kind of job.
Amazing to see forest work done properly

So heart-warming that this is one job that equines can do, that machinery cannot. And what determination from them all!
This is so awesome to watch, yeay mini team. 🤗🇳🇱

Love this! Go shetties! They look happy to be working and stimulated!

Look at them, it's like watching those miniature kitchen cooking shows, but with horses!

They actually look like they're proud of themselves. Which they should toatally be. Such clever Shetties.❤

Awesome 👍
Same calls as for guiding sled dogs, I believe.
what a wonderful life not forgetting the hard work, real work. As it is said: "God wanted a farmer"🤣🙏💞

Awesome to see shettys working. Which is what they were bred to do. Strong little guys.

Life is better with a job you can do and you can do it well.
Wow good job! ❤️
Reminded me of the story I heard about Shetland Ponies being used in the mines to pull cartloads because of their relatively stocky but diminutive builds...
The determination . . . .'I got this, Mum!'
I am surprised that they don't chip the brush. It would make the going easier and safer and benefit the forest floor....
I love your shetland ponies. They're so cute.
That was amazing I don’t know why more people don’t use horse power
shetlands rock
So nice they don't wipe out the whole forest like here in the American south!
Soo cute
cuteness OVERLOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAD
So cute!
It amazes me that your not at a million subscribers!!!
So nice what you do with your ponies
Little 4-legged super-heroes 🥰!
Good job with the mini's. Just for safety reasons, are you wearing proper saw pants and boots?
Amazing
This is so lovely but would not like to do a risk assessment on logging with horses. All that foliage. I could make a ton of Christmas wreaths.
Ponys have been hauling loads for eons .. Used heavily in the coal mines.
nice job
Like Britan 1000 years ago Watch out for knights or the sheriff of Nottingham rofl

Hardly a twig 😉
Feel so sorry for that horse being put through that noise everyday. It's torture!
This is tree eugenics🙃
I think,. Pony is happy not as Timber ridge
