  • Thanks to Innstar for sending me this belt to try out. I've never spent time with a ratcheting belt, so it gives me good context. Question is, is this the future of belts or a failure? Let me tell you my thoughts...

    I feel like a big benefit here is being able to just have it on the whole time because of how much it can tighten and loosen once on. Even a PAL lever might need taken off between sets. I'm definitely interested in one of these.

    • @BasementBrandon
      @BasementBrandon  Год назад

      So as someone who wears a PAL most of the times, I just unlatch it between sets and it's fine, or I'll just move to a more open position.

    Inzer already had this concept years ago, but is an eyesore. Inzer had the excess belt on the outside, so no pinching when ratched tight.
    However, Inzer has a literal copycat of this Innstar model on their website posted in the past month. Not sure if Innstar sold Inzer the license for the mechanism, as Inzer is using it's own leather, but Inzer being IPF approved allows this specific model in IPF meets. Similar to how Pioneer licensed PAL to A7 belts to be used in IPF meets.

    I’ve had an 13mm Inzer ratchet belt since ‘06 and it looks a lot stiffer than that one you have. I do like the ratchet for the reasons you mentioned, but the one downside to the Inzer version is that the ratchet is held on with rivets. So 15+ years on mine is fraying and I can’t replace the strap on it, where that one look’s potentially replaceable.

    Very cool belt, but I have to agree that the convenience of the lever is a huge advantage. Also, pressing the button to loosen the ratchet doesn’t even come close to the mighty lever flick.

  • @amazin7006
    @amazin7006 7 месяцев назад

    This is great for people that go up and down in weight often. My waist goes from 36 to 32 inches so I'm looking into getting this during cuts. I'd be interested to see one of those thinner bodybuilding or oly-weightlifting style belts use this mechanism

    I think spud inc has a nylon belt that ratchets but this is a cool idea overall more options pushes innovation for all of us, but I agree they need to change the styling of the belt. It’s its own thing.

  • @martystrasinger3801
    @martystrasinger3801 Год назад +5

    Is the strap that does the ratchet made of nylon? If so, I would think the issue with removing it (because of the folded/sewn end) could go away by cutting it flush and melting the exposed end so it doesn’t unravel. If it’s cotton, that wouldn’t work but then they should consider swapping the cotton for nylon. Great review!

    • @BasementBrandon
      @BasementBrandon  Год назад +1

      Def could do that, not sure you'd want to sacrifice the potential safety though!

    Is the strap long enough that you could just drop the belt past your hips and too the floor to just step out of it? Just never pull the nylon out of the ratchet shaft.

  • @gregors00
    @gregors00 Год назад

    The other idea someone posted about cutting the end off and just melting it with a cigarette light would be the go. However, instead of putting the tail of the strap through to the other side, can you put it through the slot, and then back towards your RHS? (Like a ratchet strap on a truck/trailer). Might offer the same safety feature, could have a longer strap so you don’t need to take it out all the way (and just tuck the tail into the belt or you could have a fancy Velcro thing etc). Not sure why it matters to me, because I don’t really wear a belt anymore 😂

    Innstar has videos on RUclips of ratchet belts with Innstar stamped on the front looking exactly like Inzer's PR BELT New Model (stupid name) that comes in a black smooth leather outside.
    Something definitely fishy here.
