Wow! Julia Varady's musical presense is remarkable! Every nuance of the Strauss songs was intricately entwined in such musicology - I am left breathless but grateful, in that I have heard something extraordinary!👏👏👏👏
She's such a commanding presence, a Music Goddess. The sheer panache with which she negotiates the more treacherous transitions, from chest to head voice and back, always keeping a limpid and purposeful sense of direction in the musical line... it's mesmerizing. Brava, Julia Varady. How lucky we are to have access to these and other documents of her honorable and generous legacy.
Ich liebe Richard Strauss...ein so genialer Meister, der der Welt sooooo viel wunderschöne Musik hinterlassen hat❤...Danke, Richard Strauss !!! und danke an die fantastische Julia Varady und dem genialen Dirigat vom Kurt Masur und last but not least dem Gewandhausorchester....fantastisch begleitet....danke fürs posten
¡BRAVA!
There is a feeling of internalization within her of every note and text to make it possible to be drawn in emotionally with her. She has a radiant stage presence and such a beautiful dress.
Stunning. She always had such class and ALWAYS wore the most stylish dresses when she performed on stage. My only qualm is her somewhat lack of text clarity. For someone who was married to F-D rather a strange phenomena. Nevertheless every note is so exquisite to listen to - that surely more than makes up for any loss of text! Very fortunate to able to listen to this
Fabulous concert, thanks for sharing. I wish the camera operator would have panned around the orchestra a bit more, they didn't even show the horn solo.
I saw Julia Varady at the Metropolitan Opera in NY in 1978, I think, as Donna Elvira in DON GIOVANNI. From the heights of my standing place I recognized the voice. Yet, to my knowledge she never appeared in the US after that? Anyway, I love her singing in this performance. The filming is awful.
A little rushed tempo wise I think she could have drawn the phrases out more given the opportunity the voice was there let her work her magic even her lower notes were lovely. The third song sounded as though things might slow down but NO!
A többi cikluson is pici sietséget érzek ! A zenekar egyébbként jó szép hangzású !
Oh. Out of tune notes in second movement, perfunctory horn solo (conductor's fault). Lots to admire, but not a collection item. A must view once, though.

Magnificent voice of pure beauty! Heartfelt and moving interpretation. Thank you for sharing.
Groß-Artig - große Kunst - wunderbar !! DANKE

The gorgeous voice pouring from this beautiful woman, truly music of the spheres, transporting us as Strauss always does. Thank you for posting.

Fantastic performance. God Bless Strauss
The voice of liquid gold, so fluid and effortlessly beautiful high notes.
She is so brilliant. There are flaws and imperfections, but there’s something so compelling too and the timbre is luminous.
Great Technician, Great Artist! Love her voice!
Wow! Such Power, strength, and musical Wonder!
Wonderful.
Fantastica....Bravissima 🌹🌹🌹🍀🍀🍀
Oh. Good. Grief!! Why have I not heard this before?! Many thanks for uploading.🙏🏻
Many thanks for watching! Glad you enjoy it! ;)

Very well said. Agreed!
Hay ablado muchas, muchas verdades!
Yes that violin solo was played exquisitely ! :))
Possibly the greatest post-war soprano few people have heard of.
She is wonderful!
A sublime artist.
There is a feeling of internalization within her of every note and text to make it possible to be drawn in emotionally with her. She has a radiant stage presence and such a beautiful dress.
Julia Varady: the one I've been listing for.
Thought I had seen all the best performances of this before this one - I was wrong - this is the best (imo)
Stunning performance.
I have been waiting for this magnificent document to reappear! Thank you so much.
Stunning!
Wonderful artist!
A truly great soprano inexplicably underrated.
One of the best recordings available.
Pure beauty.
... ¡¡¡ GRACIAS INFINITAS !!! ...
very wonderful
Bravissima!
It is not fair she is so underrated. She wasn't only Fischer-Diskau's woman.
oh, boo hoo hoo! life is so unfair!
meanwhile, back in the real world ...
If only this had been captured in the studio when she was younger would have be a classic recording.
Wunderbar. Immer wieder wunderbar.
Superb :)

God and queen in joint force... what a night!
Such a shame that this was never released on CD! 🙃
Interesting that it seems much faster than the version with the same conductor and orchestra with Jessye Norman.
but different singer ! thats why.
Have you spoken with R Strauss through a medium?
The tempi are not metronome-set. It's just a blueprint. In fact some singers have done them so slow it's like a funeral dirge.
@@margogreene I didn’t say that either tempo is wrong, only that they are different.
@@smurf902 I didn’t say that one tempo is right. I just commented that they are different.
❤
O my God
I saw Julia Varady at the Metropolitan Opera in NY in 1978, I think, as Donna Elvira in DON GIOVANNI. From the heights of my standing place I recognized the voice. Yet, to my knowledge she never appeared in the US after that? Anyway, I love her singing in this performance. The filming is awful.
I saw her in Salome at Santa Fe Opera in the mid-90s.
Jessye Norman
Beautiful horn solo end of September. Pity they didn’t show the player.
It's funny how i enjoy a more forward sound like Varady's in this rather than the knödl of Fleming. It's much more human sounding
You don't think Janowitz had too much vibrato? She was beautiful but it was the most vibrato I've ever heard of any singer besides Bartoli.
Show us the horn.
A little rushed tempo wise I think she could have drawn the phrases out more given the opportunity the voice was there let her work her magic even her lower notes were lovely. The third song sounded as though things might slow down but NO!
EXQUISITA
Too fast
I wish her voice landed more pleasingly on my ear, but to me there is an unpleasant warble. I also think her interpretation lacks subtlety.
A többi cikluson is pici sietséget érzek ! A zenekar egyébbként jó szép hangzású !
Oh. Out of tune notes in second movement, perfunctory horn solo (conductor's fault). Lots to admire, but not a collection item. A must view once, though.
