I've bowling league for 40 years. In the '90s, I joined the Amateur Bowlers Tour in my region (Southern California). I lasted about two years, because, at the time, I _wanted_ to win, but I didn't _need_ to win. Even at the amateur level, there were more than a few guys who _needed_ to win, and I couldn't compete. Because of channels like this one, I've learned more about the sport of bowling, the equipment, the mechanics, and the physics involved in the last four years than I learned in the 36 prior. One thing remains constant, though: The thought of going pro has never entered my mind, because I never want to _need_ to win. If I got to that point, I know I wouldn't enjoy it as much as I do.
This is really a GREAT video! McNiel provided one of the most honest answers I've ever heard. It's a shame he doesn't feel he deserves to win just because he isn't grinding it out every week. But the truth is, he has put in years and years of hard work and grinding it out. Matt has proved himself worthy with that alone. Anyone who steps on the lanes, especially after putting in the effort for years, is just as worthy, as the bowler who makes his/her living on the Tour. We all have decisions we have to make about bowling when it comes to how it fits into our daily life. Mine happened to be raising my son & stepping away, especially when the opportunities for us ladies were in rapid decline. But the cool thing about the PBA is that people like Matt, with full-time jobs and/or families, can still go out and compete. For those of us in similar positions, it's nice to have our decisions supported and to feel included when do have the opportunity to compete. I really hope McNiel finds that confidence he needs & never doubts his worthiness. At the end of the day, Professional or Amateur, we are all here to share our love of the game and make sure it's passed on to the next generations. Much appreciation to Brad & Kyle for doing this video and to Matt for being so honest! Sorry I'm late to comment, but I'm just now getting around to watch every video from the start. Keep up the great work guys! 🎳🤗🎳🤗🎳
Kyle, Brad, and Matt all make great points. Competing on the pro tour has always been a tough rabbit to chase even during the years ABC televised the telecasts with Chris and Bo in the broadcast booth. There was an article about one time champion Duane Fisher. Despite his talent and awesome physical game, Duane discusses why he didn't pursue the PBA much after his win in 1990.
I just ordered Blanchard's book. I'm doing a sports shot league. The average isn't really there. I feel I have enough tools to succeed, but not the mental game. I find myself getting frustrated then realizing that if I cleared my head a lot of the errors would go away.
It's to bad that the success from the National stage didn't translate to the regular tour stage, he has the talent but for whatever reason it didn't work out.
Great video, please try release videos all above 10 mins, Its really disappointing as a viewer when its a 6 min video, because your content is so enjoyable makes me sad and probably others when its that short, Of course we dont want u to sacrifice quality for quantity. If you can't do it then don't, but i feel u guys could. 10 min+ videos also work better with youtubes algorythms. On the monetry side, I wish they took that 1 mil bonus for a 300 and split it into 4-5 tournaments to help spread that wealth to the bowlers, or bump up some of the prizepools on the current tournaments.
Well the money out there sucks is the problem..it’s a fkn joke ..20k if u win a big event ..I’ve won that much playin poker at my local dog track in one night ..real talk

GREAT Interview. Thanks for sharing it. Cheers
Really refreshing honesty, sums up why I wouldn't want to do more than be a 1-2 night a week bowler even if I was good enough.
