      It's the East Coast. They don't want to look like pussies in front of their brothers and sisters. Their mentality seems to be if you are outside you don't need to put on a SCBA.

    • @jacques6593
      @jacques6593 4 месяца назад +6

      That was my first thought. I bet the fire department and union implored the city officials for funding to purchase the top of the line self-contained breathing appparatus; something, something dangerous carcinogens. Maybe it wasn't neccessary for everyone on scene to have their facepiece on, but the two firefighters on the hoseline in the smoke (that could cause adverse health effects, even irreversible) should have had them on.

      For someone who admits they don't known, you're 100% correct, the firefighters who where in the smoke needed to have their air on and masks on their face. Pretty sure the city didn't purchase those $3,000 dollar items as ornaments.

    • @scotto3826
      @scotto3826 4 месяца назад +7

      You're absolutely correct! Where there's smoke, there's cancer. There's also the risk of injury from explosion or unexpected fuel leaks and flare ups. Fighting a vehicle fire is incredibly dangerous. Surprisingly, there is a scary number of fire departments don't seem to understand this. In 10 years (or less) when these firefighters file their claim for occupational cancer treatment, the city they work for will use these videos to deny their claims. If you refuse to use the equipment you're provided, you pay for your own cancer treatment.

      The time is of essence in fires. Best option would be to mask oneself on the way to the fire but if that’s not done the only option is to start without a mask. It’s a choice and they are full grown men so it’s up to them what they do. Like smoking. You can choose to smoke or not to smoke and either way is ok from an objective standpoint of view.

      Cops are just paid spectators. If they park their car a block away to divert traffic how are they going to see whats going on? It makes me happy I live in a rural area where we have 20 firefighters for every cop. A week ago I saw a bad crash on the highway. Two fire trucks were diverting traffic on each end. I could see other rescue trucks on the scene. Two rollback tow trucks were just arriving, but there was not a cop car in sight. I drove about 10 or 15 miles before a saw a state police car race past me at 100 mph heading to the crash. The Fire Departments take care of their own traffic control around here, and it works fine.

    Funny thing about fire videos; everybody knows more about how to do the job better than the firemen on the scene; just read the comments below, for example. I was a volunteer for years, and at every fire there were the curbside experts who knew the true methods, and were quite willing to express them. Different fire companies have different methods and equipment. I once visited the London (England) fire brigade; almost everything was totally different than we had.

      @@jacques6593 here Rescue Engines are the modern day standard, no matter if it's a rather small department in a village or a big city department ...
      At professional / full-time FDs in the city the standard staffing of a Rescue Engine is 6 firefighters here, at the volunteer departments it's 9 firefighters. How does that go along with "limited manpower"?

    When I went thru fire school in the 90s, first thing they taught us was if your paid you don't need to mask up but if your volunteer you have to mask up and to park the truck as close as possible so there is less hose to clean on the weekends.

    Why would they send a tower ladder to a vehicle fire?

  • @raypropps
    @raypropps 2 месяца назад +1

    I see so much they did wrong. Not trying to be mean. First why not hook the LDH ( large diameter hose )in at the hydrant, on the way in you would save time and man power. Second your attack team should be together with (SCBA) or air packs doned when they came off the truck. 3 you never hit a vehicle 🚗 fire 🔥 from the front for two reasons. First when you hit the shocks that are hot with cold water they can explode and have cut firefighting knees off second reason you are pushing the fire back to the gas tank and there goes the block. They did good as far as the whole fire team working together. They just need more training and changes to their (SOP) standard operating procedures.

      Fire extinguishers are simple to use for a reason. Any idiot can use it. If you aren't trained and do it wrong, you have wasted a lot of powder. Instructions say "pull pin", "AIM", "depress lever". Most people forget that second item.

    Serious question, what’s the point of humping an SCBA pack around if you’re not going to actually mask up fighting the fire? Just leave it on the rig, why burn energy carrying around dead weight. Oh, and cancer is cool guys….

    • @jacques6593
      @jacques6593 4 месяца назад

      Probably because their SOP's requires them to wear them. But, to your point, was the point if they don't wear them and use them correctly. I blame the unit officers and chiefs for not enforcing their own policy.
