The timeline of events when the Refurbishment for the Siemens C651 starting, cancellation and scrapping.
This video is to tribute the 3 doomed refurbished sets, which have all been scrapped.

Imagine C651 using C151 motor. But anyway , rest in peace to both of these trains since they will retire soon.
We shall still remember their prototype -- The Taipei Metro C321
GTO chopper is C151
and also we will remember the Kawasaki Nippon Sharyo moter form the C751B
I can confirm that the C651 were not put in service due to critical safety issues due to bad cracking in the framework from the refurbishment, as well as faulty speed panels, it wasn't disability compliant, the trains would regularly break down during testing disrupting services, the new brake design didn't work well, which would have caused the trains to overshoot platforms and derail, the train motors would overheat which could of cause a serious fire and doors were not compatible with the new safety control systems, meaning that doors could open by simply leaning on them whilst the train was moving & there was also poor visibility from the upgraded driver's cab.. At a Board meeting, it was decided they would never enter service, nor would the rest of the fleet be refurbished because of the high cost of fixing them, and it would instead be cheaper to order more of the Alstom Movia R151, which were already planned to replace the C151 by the early 2020s. The R151 are now replacing both the C151 & the C651.

I know SMRT is very upset about this situation as they wasted tons and tons of money , they could have used the money to upgrade the rail network but instead...

Farewell to the refurbished C651 trains, they had the same exterior livery as the C151B but it didn't enter service since the end of the project. Rest in peace , the Refurbished C651s (2015 to 2021).

@electro_sykes True, also the C751B would not be refurbished as well and now 7 of them left in service after 24 years. Kind of sad the older trains have to say goodbye early but, this is life we have to carry on and the new R151 trains will carry their legacy forward
I was also hoping the refurbished C651 (that never had a chance to be reinstated to revenue service) would be preserved / repurposed at Bukit Timah Raul Corridor and old Railway Station.

Refurbishment programme had been revoked in Sept 2018 due to faults detected during testing.
RIP Siemens C651 the second gen trains on NSEWL (1995-2020/21) despite the cancelled refurbishment.
The only Unrefurbished C651 to be retired so far is 203-204.
P. S. If they run free in the rails of heaven then the late President Ong Teng Cheong (1936-2002) would board them with other retired trains like 045-046, 203-204 etc.. since he came up with the MRT system 34 years ago.

Kick LTA out. Above LTA is MOT, which is run by the PAP government. If today is not PAP run, we will kick out whoever is it destroying a good treasure.
Give it to other countries la PAP, why so selfish, Countries like Indonesia, or elsewhere benefit those Refurbished C651 instead of the bin.

Expected: Expecting the refurbished C651 to enter service
What they did: scrap it
Expected: Man A22 (3 doors bus)
Reality: scrap it after 7 months

What rail financing framework?
Basically the Government will fund purchase, upgrade (like refurbishment) of trains and other infrastructure stuff. While the operator will just be in charge of operating the trains and maintaining them
