One issue of Bangkok, is that it has too many different companies running different lines with various of traffic IC cards, and transfer stations are named different names, it's hard to find the right way. That's so confusing and challenging particularly to foreigners.

The other thing is that transfer stations from different systems adopt the same name in Japan. For example, Tokyo Metro, Toei Subway & JR all have "Iidabashi" 飯田橋, so passengers can easily know where to transfer between railway systems instead of having to know 2 or 3 different names at the same place. The most important, daily pass ticket can get you travel unlimited rides within both metro systems without worrying about the fare. For this aspect, Bangkok did it much worse than Japan, Taiwan or Korea.

    • @EastofVictoriaPark
      @EastofVictoriaPark Год назад +20

I agree. One of the things that makes it tough is the lack of fare integration. So many times you need to use the Toei metro and Tokyo metro.

For the longest time I heard that we couldn't have subway in Bangkok because of the sunken ground and what not. Then all these projects started to happen. I am happy with what we have, even if they are not as reaching as they should. Or being cheaper to make it more competitive to bus fares. Currently, the price was a couple of notch below Tokyo, which is not good considering the cost of living between the two cities.

    • @RIRI-el6xm
      @RIRI-el6xm Год назад +4

I think Tokyo is 2-3 times more expansive that. Bangkok is a very big city and based on tens of kilometers the price is not that high (litel). The main problem is not having unlimited monthly and annual subscriptions like in other countries. At home the metro is much more expensive, single price (regardless of the number of stations, per zone) of 70B for Zone 1 (just the City) (example 1 Bangkok, 2 Nanthaburie, 3 bang yai, 4 Ayutthaya. In Area 1 is 70B per trip (and contree pay also 70b for the compagnie, the real price are 140B, but you pay only 70) which is very expensive for me (the city is also much smaller (Bangkok 1600 Km², Paris 110Km²) 10 stations at home is like 2 or 3 station in Bangkok. But we have yearly and monthly subscriptions that are not expensive at all in comparison.
(the exchange difference and cost of living, salaries month it's 3-4 time that Thailand (for exemple minimum work are not 10 000 B but 40 000 B. The Suscription unlimited Zone 1 is about 75 euro, about 2500 B for Zone 1
(and even cheaper for children and pensioners, handicap etc) in proportion to the Thai salary and the Thai cost of living, this would be like pay only 700 B month. (even a person with the minimum salary can easily afford it)
Your country not being communist, the city very big, you dont have a lot of taxe, (you can't have same price)
I think that 1000 B for the poor worker, 600b for the children, 800b for secondary scool and university student and 2700 b for the Farang workers, student (have géneraly litel more cash Thai (but not so mutch more to days)
would be a good price for All. (If Thailande want to reduce tne number of car, Also a taxe of 20 000 B anualy for worker dont have Child (and give this cash for help the Metro construction) can are a good deal
(so mutch Guy in Thaïlande drive car Alone for go work.) When you see 1 guy alone in big pikup, and 5 people (3childs) in moto cycle, you think have a probleme.

As a regular visitor to BKK, I’m happy that the rail network is expanding continually. Upon arrival at airport, I will make an effort to take rail transport to downtown. I only wish tourists will only require one card to use the different rail system.
In Singapore, you will use one standard EZ link card to take the different lines of our railway and it’s also used for public buses too! Moreover, passenger are charged by distance, whether you switch to different line or continue from train to bus. Super user friendly and affordable.😅

If anyone has complaints about the current state of the Bangkok public transit system, they should travel back in time about 20 years when this system was in it's infancy. I arrived in Bangkok for the first time in 2002 when only the BTS with about 20 stations existed. It was good, but not very extensive and you still needed to take taxis to most destinations. At that time, Bangkok traffic was rated as the worst in the world by The Economist. Worse still, getting a taxi at rush hour was nearly impossible as many drivers simply didn't want to pick up passengers and get stuck in traffic somewhere. In short, getting around Bangkok in 2002 was a nightmare.
I returned to Bangkok in 2022, this time long term, and between the BTS, metro, and Grab it's incredibly easy to get around the city now. Even though the BTS and metro require different cards, it's still a pleasure traveling around this city today.

Sadly the state railway did not pay attention enough to make it convenient for most people living in the outskirts (poor conditions of the trains, fewer scheduled services like 1 tph or no train at all during daytime, lots of rail crossing with the roads, and difficulty in changing between railway station and other modes of transport)

For my part I find the network, efficient, clean, safe and pleasant. NICE WORK, BUT If the network works well, it is possible to do better. I think Thais and Bangkok deserve to have the best metro in the world, to make Tokyo jealous. A few mining for improvement in my opinion:
    1) 1 card for all metro, and 1 unlimeted abonement (expensif is not a probleme) for exemple 4-5000B/ mount
if the card in addition could be reloaded in the seven-11 and pay for small races, such as vending machines. This would be perfect!!!
    2) (although I think that the MRT stations (should be more decorated, what was done for the station Wat Mangorn (dragon temple) should be extended to all the main stations.
For Stations, take inspiration from the Moscow Metro (there are plenty of Thai artists who would be very happy to offer works to decorate the metro.) Why not ?
    3) MRT are large but Sorely lacking benches, it is only recently that there are more benches (only two benches per station) Pregnant woman, handicapped, old people, tired thai worker, tourist exhausted from heat and walking ) people are painfully waiting for their train, and it is just unavoidable)
4)In addition to the name of the Station, for tourists, it would be good to indicate the main attractions and centers of attraction around the station (why not show them on the screens (even if it means stopping advertisement just for 10 seconds)
    5) More panels with the representation of the stations would be a plus (especially on the Siam Station where this is really missing (it is also not clear enough the direction where the train is going (heat, tied, lost, add a big arrow on the map to know where going the train and the direction would be a big UP.
6)Create an interactive website with all train, companies (boat and principal Bus) and attractions in Bangkok.
You calculate the point of origin and where you want to go, the site tells you which metro, change, duration, cost and how many meters you will have to walk, or may be propose you to catch a taxi, bot, etc
which also Bus number etc (also in MRT/BTS give the door number)
the website could also communicate on the filling of the metro, and offer to postpone the journey for a few minutes (when the user peak is lower)
And I recommend you to do it in multi language
(minimum Thai and English,) But Chinese and Japanese tourists, like French are often really bad in English... The number of tourists coming from Eastern Europe and Russia increasing, Russian would also be interesting . Maybe Korean, Spanish and Arabic (to really help a maximum of tourists helping) in the future maybe also Vietnamese will come in mass. The site could also present the attractions near each station and make suggestions according to the district of residence and its Hotel.
    7) if the metro is generally very clean.
There are always traces of glue, greasy dirt (escalator, etc.) (the Metro Shit) in certain places (debris at heights) (something that cleaning ladies will have trouble cleaning on a daily basis) It would therefore be good to add a dedicated team each quarter to pass in each station in order to clean the rebel traces and prevent the accumulation of dirt (particularly necessary where the classic cleaning ladies cannot go or do)
This type of cleaning does not need to be frequent, but twice a year.
Of course it's ideas for improvement, the networks and already great.
But we can make it even better.
    best regards

The more they constucts the more we gained the benefits for traffic conveniences,Don't take it too serious about the routes and their colors as it's connectable,Most simple ways is what station you're in and the destinations you're expecting to go then just buy one day card(rabbit card) at the station and study the English map plan or inquire the officials in each station which they were managed to assist all passengers and ceretainly the Thai are feel free to help all tourists when the inconvenience has caused, Please enjoy your visiting and seeing Thailand.
