I appreciate the views guys for those asking about a fishing rod, remember that is a one trick pony and area specific, the tools shown will take fish as well as mammals and birds
Dave, I really appreciate the education you provide. Not having anyone growing up to teach me this stuff, I feel a little behind the eight ball, so to speak. You make it easy to grasp and apply.
Really enjoying the series it’s always good to get back to the basics and you do a real great job in presentation. Thank you for everything you’ve done.
After 8 years using it and learning what I can do with it, I would have to have my harritage rough rider on my list. Great video. I need bow practice bad.
I use an old wrist rocket sling shot. Works like new. Made my gig from a coat hanger and a broom stick. don't have any traps. An old timer told me that for one man to feed himself daily he would have to set 12-15 snares. I don't know about that. I set a four snare squirrel pole and got two. I have a #50 bow and two Mossberg 500's. I think I'm fairly well set except for some traps.
A slingshot. Amazing small game tool. I use a sniper sling maverick. Has a quick band clasp. No tying needed. And ammo is a good steel ball, or a pebble. I trust it.
Missed you Dave. It's been about 10 years since I b b watched anything of yours. Glad to have stumbled upon you again. I just watched a video for like the 40th time since you posted it about the slingbow. Saw a guy take a buffalo with one earlier this evening. What a cool little weapon! I love the idea and have modified my childhood slingshot to take 4 bands instead of 2. I can change draw weights easily from 40 lbs up to whatever lbs I want. A pretty simple modification, no welding or anything...its common man stuff, and cheap.
All good info however here in Florida rocks are scarce for a slingshot but adding a whisker biscuit allows me to use sticks as arrows off the landscape.
Have been practicing with pocket shot / its like a strong franger designed to throw pellets or anything that fits including a hunting dart kit (small arrows) takes practice ,most likly now part of my belt kit .
I’ve never found a Ben Pearson over 30# in town. I’ve only ever found the 3360 and 336 on eBay for like 100-200$. I found a Barnett wildcat it’s my go to forever crossbow until I find a Ben Pearson.
That Stevens 301 is great for the c-st. I got my wife one in 20ga, and she loves it. I use a NEF/H&R 12ga, and it works just fine. Good video Dave, thanks for sharing it. JT Kentucky.
Got a midland backpacker 18.5 in 12g has beretta screw in choke. Got a 22lr and 40s&w adapters. Stock is hollow and swivel stud on stock unscrews and the butt comes off and you can store small kit inside. Got homemade para cord sling and use claymore bag to carry shells and small stuff. The backpacker folds up compact enuff to stick in a backpack.
Indeed, a 12 is an excellent shot gun to have for various reasons. However, some of us are not able to handle that kick nearly as well as we use to...especially those with joint diseases like arthritis and other things that are debilitating physically. A 16 or 20 or even 410 may be what we have to use. I prefer a 12 myself but, my shoulders can't handle the kick due to health issues...those such as myself haven't much choice... unfortunately.
I bought a RIA 20 gauge single shot break action very small compact stock is not wood, but I’m not gonna be doing anything else but putting it against my shoulder excellent shotgun for the woods. At the time I bought it was 125 bucks.
Tape over the bow b4 you attached the handline. Piece's of cork for spacers to further protect the bow and align the handline, attached with plastic coated wire. The fishing arrow has a heavier fishing line attached along its length with a brass swivel running along it that the spool line ties to. It's same principle the older spear guns use. The fibreglass electric fence insulator shafts work a treat. Don't cut them shorter and a 3 prong pranger (home-made) works best so as not to slow it down too much in the water. Happy Hunting... If you're in Australia, watch out for tiger snakes around the swamps. They love frogs.
For traps I am a huge fan of the Conibear traps in 110 and 220 sizes. Used them for years running a trap line as a teenager. They are brutally effective correctly used. Plus 1 to the single shot break action 12 gauge! Its a shame Savage doesnt make a Model 24 with a 22lr over a 12 gauge. I would so sell my soul if I could get my hands on one! But there are always adapters...
Good info the only one I’d change is the trap. I personally like the 155 over the 110. The two springs and slightly larger Iv taken raccoon and one bob cat as well as mink and muskrat. Keep up the good work Dave 73s
You can successfully hunt Grizzly with a pocketknife, but truth be told it is a difficult challenge. What is not difficult is the myriad of uses for a simple car antenna and how no matter the disaster they are always available.
In many parts of the world, all firearms are licencensed. The common man's hunting tool is an air rifle. In the US, these are either children's toys are ultra high power models. There are however, many in .177 and .22 calibres within the legally permitted power, of very high precision and accuracy.
What's the common man trappers I knew growing up used homemade snares produced from stainless steel cable a couple of cable cramps and a bent stainless steel washer. At the time they build three snares for a dollar when a steel traffic cost 20. These homemade Cable snares were bulletproof and they still had ones that were over 10 years old with constant use.
Dave, Great video as always. I’m a long time subscriber, customer, and outdoor enthusiast like yourself. My question is why don’t you work or show your blindhorse PLSK1 anymore in your videos? I do understand business and your products of marketing. But have you aborted one of the best knifes in our generation? Please understand no disrespect at all. Just a simple question for a simple answer. Thanks. You are the modern day Daniel Boone.
I appreciate the views guys for those asking about a fishing rod, remember that is a one trick pony and area specific, the tools shown will take fish as well as mammals and birds
At first glance this appeared in my brain as common man-hunting tools, and I thought whoa the channel has taken a turn! LOL

The versatility of the twelve is awesome and with your /Daves black powder adapter that changes propellant as well.
For a second I though The Pathfinder School had taken a dark turn when I read "Top Five Common 'Man Hunting' tools".
That magnet for carrying bearings is clever

Here I am again asking Pathfinder please recreate and put on the market again the Ben Pearson 40 lb recurve and take down longbow series.
You sold me on those shotgun adapters long ago my man. I can’t thank you enough.
Awesome video Dave! How you carry your slingshot ammo with that magnet is genius!!!
Thanks Dave

This is a great list however, somewhere on the list I would add a common variable pump air rifle. I’ve taken small game with a .177 pellet with ease.
That Stevens 301 is great for the c-st. I got my wife one in 20ga, and she loves it. I use a NEF/H&R 12ga, and it works just fine.

Ohh I was looking forward to learning how/what I needed to hunt a man down with. 😅😅😊
Love the setup. Same thing i been keeping for years except i still run an old nef/h&r 12ga love em. 👍🏻 Great vid.
Love the versatility of the 12 or 20 Gauge (wide range of game). However, can't carry many shells. What about a 22.

Cheers mate. Must be a bit warm over there.!
Thank you ! 🇺🇸
Thanks Dave. Great ideas.
Another well done video. Thanks
You're always showing us how to get the best bang for the buck. Thanks Dave!!!❤❤❤

Great input . Thanks Dave
Tremendously thoughtful video. Thank you!
Great Video, David! Content to the point and well explained! Thank you!
I been carrying the frog gig and a couple of fishing yo-yo's
Great video Dave . Keep them coming.
Thank you for the videos and content, top quality.

Good stuff Dave!
havent got my hands on a 301 yet but i really want one they are so similar to the old h&r toppers
Maybe sometime in the future you do a video on how to aim with a slingshot. The last time I hit anything with one I got lucky.
I'm getting excited for hunting season
My hat is off to anybody who can squirrel hunt with a slingshot.😂
Yes, you could probably find a few 12 guage shells even in some remote village somewhere in the amazon rainforest
Thanks for this free information!
Great video, for the money i will take the Mossberg maverick every time.
Always good info. Thank you Dave.
Dave, ty

Where do you buy the frog gig at?

I'm glad I'm not the only one who read it as common tools for tracking man

Solid advice! 💪🏻
outstanding.
I still love my Pathfinder slingbow
I would have thought fishing tackle would have been on the list.
Love the topic. Great video and thanks
nice list of tools. this makes me want to go outside more haha
I would say a break barrel bbgun is far more useable than a slingshot or any bow in less experienced hands
Dave showing off with that arrow grouping ;)
Nice video Dave!

Also consider a blowgun easily made at home. look up slock master and you can find him hunting a bear and harvesting it with no poison
i just picked up three ben pearson 50# bows and a handful of old knife blades for ten bucks
Background is Amazing, thanks for post👏🏻🙏🏻😁
I like the magnet idea. What size is it?
At first I wondered if Dave had taken on a new side job.
Kind of surprised some form of 22LR didn't make the cut.

I thought for sure you would mention an upgrade to your shotgun with those 22 cal converters.
A small pump up BB gun is a great tool for survival. BBs are cheap and you can also use them for homemade buckshot
Ahh archery related video!!!
You get new camera, looks great
What do you think about Simpleshot slingshots?
Deadfall traps work very well also.
Old Savage model 24.
Man, I need to read better. I saw "Man hunting tools" and instantly thought of the movie "Surviving the Game"
You can catch fish with a baited 110 .
Hows that stevens compare to your henry ? Think it will hold up as well 🤔
Imagine if our grandparents (or great grandparents, as the case may be) had “91 DAYS TIL PEARL HARBOR) marked on their 1941 calendars.
We do.
I just picked up my first recurve bow and a new inline muzzleloader.
I'm evolving in reverse into more old school, simpler hunting implements.
Haha, Dave, i have to laugh, i read the title as "top five, common, man hunting tools".
Excellent ideas !
Thank you!
I totally thought we’re talking about hunting human beings after reading the title. Got excited for a second
The myriad of ways that title could be read........
Dave, what do you say about fishing? This fishing part of your list? Why are why? ... Thanks brother!!
Dave is the King
I only caught the first part of the title. top 5 common man hunting tools. I thought I was going to get some tips on how to find me a MAN

...So i misinterpreted the title at first. Took me a second.
I love the sling shot but u need to protect one hand ore bd injury.! and i shoot nails make it darts and they can kill
some flu-flu arrows with the looped wire bird tips are great to have on hand. wont fly so far.
You forgot a tool Dave. A fishing pole or kit. I like a telescoping pole.
I trapped for years 110 traps are great
Arrows can also be made.
I’d replace the the bow with a recurve crossbow
(Unofficial rule #1 of survival) Have a cool beard
