    I have found the DeDeDepraise watercolours from Temu to be lovely to use, creamy and highly pigmented. I have used them for several years and have never light tested them. They work perfectly well with my Daniel Smith and a variety of handmade high end watercolours. The variety of pallettes are fun.

    Thanks for the video - it was interesting to see such a large selection of inexpensive, but decent quality, art materials, being demonstrated. I personally won't buy from Temu, but they obviously provide a means for many people to buy art materials that would otherwise be out of their financial reach; and I would never dream of criticising anyone who chooses Temu as their entry point into art and creativity - after all, we should all want as many people as possible to get creating, right? Incidentally, I've never thought of removing my ink converter from the pen to refill it. I often have a problem getting the converter to completely fill and I'll try your way to see if it works better for me - thanks for the suggestion. Best wishes, Brian......

    The fountain pen ink converters can be used with the nib still attached. It saves time if you are refilling and keeps flow consistent, keeps air from clogging up your nib.

    • @winterwoodsstudio
      @winterwoodsstudio  Год назад +1

      I don't actually like to do that because I've seen pens start to leak around where the metal nib meets the plastic base because of the pressure on that area from the vacuum the converter creates. I like my pens a lot so I try to make them last as long as I can! But If I had a cheaper one I didn't mid possibly messing up, I'd probably do that, just to save time!

    • @DianaNorman
      @DianaNorman Год назад +3

      @@winterwoodsstudio No worries! Do what makes you comfortable. I treat my temu fountain pens as disposable and experimental. I fill them with acrylics and india inks, I grind down the nibs I carve channels into feeds and cut into nibs with diamond bits to make them flex for ultimate line variation. When the pens are less than $2 the experiments aren't so painful if they don't turn out. I always used to fill by removing the converter when I had very expensive inks and precious pens. But once I looked more into fountain pens and really disassembling them and modifying them, reckless behavior like filling with the nib on made real drawing and writing use just easier and one less hassle during the creation process. Sometimes I don't even screw the back part of the pen back on if I am drawing large and have to refill lots! No worries! Filling with the converter only is totally valid! Great haul. I wanted some of those inks in the past, but never picked them up. Great to know the bottles are so large! Exciting!

    • @winterwoodsstudio
      @winterwoodsstudio  Год назад +2

      @DianaNorman OOH! I've never done any of the modifications because I was afraid I'd screw it up somehow, but it sounds like so much fun! Maybe I need to try some and stop being so afraid! Thanks for the tips!

    • @DianaNorman
      @DianaNorman Год назад +2

      @@winterwoodsstudio there are tons of good fountain pens on temu. They have different sizes of nibs and feeds and you can just firmly grip the front of the pen and just pull the pieces apart! I buy them like 20 pens at a time! A few months ago they had a bunch at $0.88! And really nice refillable calligraphy brush pens that take cartridges.
      But look at cursive italic stub nibs and you'll see what i mean about modifying pens. The tip is basically ground down so it is no longer a point but flat across the top. And the line variation is amazing. The down strokes are wide and the side strokes are thin. And awesome for drawing. Bamboo pens are fun too and those you can carve up or sand down easier than metal. I also play with feather quills all the same fountain pen principals apply. But feathers are easier to cut and modify than metal. Same with dip pens. Same with alcohol markers. You can carve into the chisel tips... and make specialized fur markers! and the temu costs are so low you can really experiment and make your tools do exactly what you want to save time and effort. Those fineliners, once they are used up, I refill with my own india ink.
      Oh and to prevent bleedthrough to other pages I use a sandwich bag or other plastic under the page. Also the plastic can rewet alcohol ink so clean it before the next use or you might get unexpected colors from the back.

    I'm so glad you did a Temu haul. I love Temu and when one is on a budget, it really helps to get cheaper supplies because you feel like you can afford to try new techniques. And for people who think it's unethical, think about your own grocery store and even Walmart. Who hasn't bought a bag of 'Fruit Rings' instead of Fruit Loops because it was less expensive and just as good?
    Sadly, I supported Temu on the Frugal Crafter with Lindsey channel and....she blocked me and erased my comment and it made me so sad 😪. I was nice and everything so either she read it otherwise or just wanted to ditch the subscribers who want her to do Temu hauls...I don't know 🤔. So I'm so glad you like Temu. I hope to see more budget friendly (frugal) art supplies tested here so I know the best ones to get. Thank you!

    • @winterwoodsstudio
      @winterwoodsstudio  Год назад +4

      I love Lindsey! I watched Lindsey's video and yes, she has some valid points, but also I didn't agree with some. I think one of the most valid was that shopping at big places like Temu (or amazon) puts smaller local shops out of business. But for me, there are no local shops. the only place that sells art supplies within an hour and a half drive for me is Walmat. And also, like a lot of people, our budget is very tight. While I would love to use the most expensive top of the line supplies, it isn't always feasible for me. In fact, the only "professional supplies" i owned before starting this channel was a set of Prismacolor colored pencils (bought at Walmart) and a set of Faber Castell Polychromes I won. I learned with walmart supplies, and it's doable,) Except maybe watercolor paper. A good cotton watercolor paper makes a big difference).
      One thing I would like to address is the claim that temu is stealing designs and selling them on their site. I've seen it with a lot of my jeweler friends lately. It's true that there are maybe some knock offs on the site. I used to be a jeweler. I had my actual photos of my one of a kind designs stolen and used for criminals to open shops selling my designs WITH MY PHOTOS, on Etsy, Alli express, Ebay, and once even on Amazon. It happens on every large platform where individual people are allowed to sell. While the platform tries to control it the best they can, it's up to the artist to file a cease-and-desist letter with the seller stealing there designs. I know because I did it at least 8 times while I was selling jewelry. Temu isn't the problem any more than Amazon is. I don't have a solution for this, other than to keep filling the cease-and-desist letters. I am positive that Amazon, Etsy,. Ebay, and Temu would fix it if they could in a heartbeat, but like I said, I don't think there is an easy fix.
      Also, your comment might have disappeared from Lindsey's video without here doing anything. I get people all the time telling me their comments have disappeared from my videos and in the 7 months I've been on here, I only ever deleted two comments, that were both very crude and offensive. I don't know if it's a glitch or if RUclips is doing it or what. But I wouldn't assume it's the youtuber doing it. Hope that helps!

      @@winterwoodsstudio Thank you so much for such a lovely reply. It is hard being an artist on a budget so I appreciate that you understand that.
      The reason I knew Lindsey blocked me was when I went back to edit my reply it gave me a message letting me know I couldn't. 😔 But it's okay, there are lots of good artist to learn from beside her and I wish her all the best. I think she is a nice person normally and my comment must have hit her the wrong way. I didn't mean it offensively but sometimes people read things a certain way that one doesn't mean for it to be heard...if that makes any sense...lol
      Anyway, I'm enjoying your channel and glad you seem to be enjoying making your videos.
      Edit: Guess what! She didn't block me! I figured out what happens! If you take too long to type a comment, RUclips won't let it post! Lindsey and I are all good! She was not to blame at all! I'm so happy!

    A big tip to open lids of various sizes is to use a silicon baking sheet. Those flexible ones. You can double the thickness by folding it so it also works beautifully with very small lids like caps on tubes. Haven’t needed it in this way but I reckon it would also be a game changer to open up the rusted or “glued” tight paint tubes by stuck dried paint. That silicone sheet would give enough traction which would allow you to only use force on the widest part on that paint tube, you know, that round “neck” or what do you call that? Also a bonus, 1 sheet can be cut up in several pieces, several sizes or whatever. I have 1 of my local cheap store, folded up in a container (just so it doesn’t have all that static dirt and my cats and my hairs on it lol).
    Another tip is to rub a very, very tiny amount of coconut oil on the OUTSIDE of the “neck” of your containers that have a screw-lid with a q-tip or something like that but make sure it can’t get on top or inside the contents of said container so really, such a small amount on the q-tip that you kinda wonder whether it would be enough or not. Would be a shame if it contaminates your content in said container. My explanation is not really making it easy to understand, I feel so I suggest asking her about it in one of her videos, I will look up the right name. But this is an excellent trick to ensure the lids don’t get “glued” on their by the dried paint or whatever else this might apply to. Might or might not be beneficial for everyone but certainly very beneficial for all the people with arthritis or other problems might have difficulty opening. one I got from your colleague youtuber ‘Linda Marcille, Beginner’s mind - Art mind’ (looked her up to have the right name -it is a mouthful lol- and will leave a link here, if links are not allowed, let me know and I will correct this message).

    I wanted to make a new post so you would see it. I don't know if you remember me but in the comment section down below I thought The Frugal Crafter blocked me and you said you had subscribers thinking the same thing and guess what I found out! If you type a long post, RUclips often times can't post it. I think because it took too long and becomes invalid and gives you a weird message making you think you can't or aren't allowed to post. So if someone says they are blocked, that is why!
    What I've learned to do is copy my long post I type, refresh the page, paste it and then comment and it works every time!
    Hope that helps give you something to tell your subscribers so they know how to post long comments!
    Lindsey didn't block me! I'm so happy!

    Love your channel! Hey just a request-when showing things close up, maybe try not holding it so close to camera. We get the refocus backlash. If you just held them up closer to your body the auto focus would still work. I get so dissy sick from all the movement. Please take this with lots of love, your doing such an incredible job with this channel and I don’t have anything else that I could possibly be critical of. ❤️🦋🦋🦋🦋

    Happy Saturday. Very fun video. Thankyou for sharing the other links for Jake Parker Inktober and Drawtober. Inktober is always so exciting to see so many people sketching/drawing in October every year it grows and grows. Love your Temu picks and they even have some of the alcohol marker refill sets. I love alcohol markers so much. Thankyou for sharing another fun Saturday video and see you on patreon and on Thursdays youtube. And I'm so looking forward to your Ferris Wheel Ink future videos. They keep being out of my wishlist colors but I keep watching out for them. Have a great weekend.

      Hi Christie Ann! I'm so glad you liked the video! Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment! I have my next box of ferris qheel press inks waiting here to open but I can't show them until September 25th and I'm worried if I open them I might be tempted... but I keep walking past the box! :) I will see you on patreon as well I hope!

    Oh and btw.... u made me laugh so hard, when you showed the 30 page sketchbook for Inktober, and said something like: 30 pages cause that's how many days are in Inktober/October... And I was like: GUUURL.. October, has 31 days! Remember? Halloween October 31. 😅😅😅😅 I'm laughing, but Im not making fun of you! ❤😊😂

      Yep, I screwed up. The challenge I did last year, the undying tales project, only had 30 days and for some reason I was thinking inktober only did 30 days too! Oh well! :)

    I love getting things from TEMU as well particularly because some of us can’t always afford to get the expensive art supplies that other people use, and it’s nice that they have things that I myself and others can afford, and a not bad quality either. However do you know that they’re stealing other small businesses and artist designs? This is something I’m not ok with. And it’s not a theory or conspiracy. I’ve seen the post myself and even bought one just to see if it was a joke and it’s not. There are also artists out there that are trying to fight this as well. And while TEMU is Chinese based I’ve actually heard that the headquarters comes out of Brooklyn or somewhere in the United States?
    Recently they stole Kristy Rice‘s new paint brushes And are selling counterfeits. She even did a HAUL previous to this for them and had a good report. She then contacted them about what was happening to her over the counterfeit posts and selling of her exclusive designs and instead of help she hit an absolute brick wall.
    Other stamp makers, stencil makers have had this happened to them as well. They’re also selling counterfeit Prismacolor pencils & NEOCOLOR II pastels by Caran D’Ache. I just don’t want them taking anything from you. It’s one thing to do this to a big company that can afford the fall in sales because they have a lot of money behind them. But it’s entirely different for a small business to go through this. It completely destroy their business as I’m sure you’re well aware. That doesn’t mean that I won’t still shop there for things that are good quality and a lot cheaper than what they re-sold for in other stores. I just don’t agree with what they’re doing to small Art business owners. Please protect yourself..

      So I already talked about this in the comments again, but I'm going to go over it again because I think it's important. Temu isn't the problem. Temu is a large online marketplace and has individual sellers on there that are not a part of the Temu company. The things that are being sold that are knock offs are being sold by individual sellers. As a jeweler for over a decade, I had people steal my actual photos of my handmade designs and set up shop with my actual photos, selling knock offs. It happened to me 8 times. Twice on Etsy, three times on Alli express, twice on ebay, and once on amazon. It is up to the artist to file a cease-and-desist letter with both the individual company and the actual seller. Then the store gets shut down and the items removed. If not, you sue them. There is no easy fix to this on these big online marketplaces. The only answer is for the artist to be vigilante and watch for their items being ripped off. In the meantime, it is of course everybody's own personal choice on whether or not they want to shop at these places. When I tell people what happened to me, almost all of them refuse to boycott Amazon, Etsy, and Ebay, Which kind of makes me mad. If you're going to boycott one of them, then you really need to boycott them all, otherwise you are a hypocrite. Not you personally I mean. I'm thinking about a certain guy I know that I had this conversation with. It still makes me steamed up! I don't know why everybody is so okay with turning a blind eye to amazon or etsy but all angry about it happening on temu! I feel like it's not convenient for them to acknowledge this happens at some of the companies they love to shop at!

    Please stop shoving small items up to the camera. It is slow to focus and you are giving your viewers a big flash of white light right in the eyes. Maybe focus on a more professional camera and lighting set
