From CroaŠČia..........Hidden in a plain sight.
This is a superb ‘rock-opera’ anti-war parody with powerful visuals. Tractor is a reference to Belarus president Lukashenko's birthday present to Putin. In the song Putin is described as a "vile little psychopath", the vocalist represents Stalin, and the guy with nuclear rockets has NINLE on his forehead (word play: Nin-Le=Lenin) and is dressed in monk's outfit, like Rasputin. Insertion of a dominant, sinister, dark Lenin, who came way before Putin, points to a much deeper problem. And those TWO nuclear warheads; after all we all know who dropped the A-bombs! At the end of the video, on the nuclear missile, it is written "pajČu", an anagram; "Čupaj"- pull out. Trajna nina nena’ is Croatian song for little kids; ‘Trajna nina armagedon nona’(grandma) speaks for itself. Mama ŠČ is a metaphor for Mother Russia (ŠČ is a letter of the Russian alphabet, also old Croatian Glagolitic). The Cyrillic letter Shch Щ was derived from the Glagolitic (Croatian script) letter Sht Ⱋ. Coincidently, the sum of letters Š and Č gives Z (25+4=29) in Croatian alphabet, and Z is a military symbol used by Russian Federation to mark their military vehicles in Ukraine.
    The chaotic part of the song represents repeating the same mistakes from history, and not learning anything. It plays Croatian alphabet in reverse: Ž(Ж/Ⰶ), Z(З/Ⰷ), V(В/Ⰲ), U(У/Ⱆ), T(Т/Ⱅ), Š(Ш/Ⱎ), S(С/Ⱄ), R(Р/Ⱃ), P(П/Ⱂ), O(О/Ⱁ), Nj(Њ/Ⱀⰺ), N(Н/Ⱀ), M(М/Ⰿ), Lj(Љ/Ⰾⰺ), L(Л/Ⰾ), K(К/Ⰽ), J(Й/Ⰺ), I(И/Ⰻ), H(Х/Ⱈ), G(Г/Ⰳ), F(Ф/Ⱇ), E(Е/Ⰵ), Đ(Ђ/Ⰼ), Dž(Џ/Ⰴⰶ), D(Д/Ⰴ), Ć(Ћ/Ⱋ), Č(Ч/Ⱍ), C(Ц/Ⱌ), B(Б/Ⰱ), A(А/Ⰰ).
Visually, there are a lot of subliminals with multilevel meaning.
Crocodile is a terrible drug popular in Russia, that makes people act like zombies. Guys are dressed in military uniforms but in pink and bright colors and are wearing dresses; making fun of all warmongers and military establishments, proponents of chaos. Side image shows roses sticking out of their asses. Preposterous, or superb description of the present time? Main exclamation is ‘mama idem u rat’- mommy I am going to war, a cry against the forced mobilization, and sending young people to kill each other.
Are we ever going to learn?!

wow... that's a lot of info, which may or may not be accurate, but you really took the time to look into this.
Here's another thing that came to mind when I saw that they were emphasizing "TRACTOR" in this song. Based on the easily accessible assumption (given the events in Europe) that it somehow tries to mock Putin, I thought that they might have brought up the tractor in relation to all of the memes that sprung up at the beginning of the invasion in Feb 2022 about Ukrainian tractors calmly pulling away abandoned or wrecked Russian tanks. The memes all suggested that the tractor was a sort of symbol for defeating the Russian army because the tractor always showed up when a battle was lost by the russians and it (a tool for farming) always pulled away a wrecked Z tank (a tool of war).

It is brilliant and a theatrical piece against dictators and obviously Putin. Croatia had it’s fair share of wars and my nona would have lived through 3 of them if she lived in Croatia for the last one. Ex-Yugoslavian music had incredibly high quality and even avantgarde music back in 80s that was not an inch less of a great music than what was happening in the Western Europe and abroad at these days!
There were amazing punk, rock and some pop bands like Pankrti, Azra, Paribrejkersi, Haustor, Grupa Film, Prljavo kazaliste, Buldozer, Elekricni orgazam, EKV, Riblja corba, Vis Idoli, Denis & Denis...
If they were coming from the West, esp. from the large and influential countries, and sang their songs on English they would have been huge success!

I'M a MASSIVE Eurovision fan so much so I have EVERY SINGLE SONG ENTERED INTO THE CONTEST on my P.C from the very start of it right up to this yrs event (always buy the cd every year and a lot of the other ones from the really early contest are taken from records ect I actually downloaded a file with every song from 1956 to 2006 of the internet!) ANYHOW I actually heard this one and HATED IT AT 1ST ...BUT it's an earworm and I have grown to love it! SADLY LET 3 ARE IN THE 1ST SEMI AND THE U.K GETS TO VOTE IN THE 2ND ONE SO I CANT VOTE FOR THEM ☹☹I WISH LET 3 WELL in the competition and hope they get through the FIRST SEMI FINAL!

However, there us a fifth one they added - HDZ (Hrvatska demokratska zajednica/Croatian Democratic union) represented by the guy in the royal blue jacket. The party is corrupt as hell, but has been in power for most of Croatia's independence. The jacket worn is reminiscent of those worn in the early 2000s when Ivo Sanader was elected prime minister, however he resigned and was arrested for corruption.

An excellent analysis, you have given me much to think about.
    About politics and Eurovision
"No politics in Eurovision" is a bit of a silly rule, because like you said, Eurovision is by itself political. Excluding Belarus and russia from the contest is a political decision. I fully support it, it was 100% the right choice, and it was triggered by several countries announcing that they would not attend if russia did, but it was STILL a political decision.
I think it boils down to two things:
    1) Personal is political.
Having two women or two men kiss on stage can be described as a political choice, but only because some ppl define being LGBTQIA+ as a (political) "choice", but to most ppl that is just absurd.
So, Jamala's 1944 is about how the deportations (=ethnic cleansing and genocide of Crimean Tatars) and the ensuing trauma still affects her, her family and her people today, and how it's reflected in today's world (russia keeps doing the same thing over and over again). So, it's a song of deep personal losses, and the political aspect is viewed through a personal lens.
Trying to divorce politics from personal experiences and only allowing songs that do not touch ANY "controversial" would mean that the contest would be incredibly BLAND and uninteresting, because the subject matter of songs would be incredibly limited.
    2) Punch up, not down.
Yes, Mama ŠČ! can be considered political, but it's also is about the anger, rage and frustration we feel when we look at what russia is doing in Ukraine, AND it's expressed through PERSONAL LENS, and it's written from the PoV of a Croatian punk band, which may be popular in Croatia, but still does not have even A FRACTION of the power putin wields.
The same goes for Dancing Lasha tumbai. It's catchy, it's funny, and the ppl who are singing it are the underdogs (Ukrainian musicians telling russia to f*** off from their land), so they are most definitely punching UP.
Meanwhile, stopping Belarus/Luka from sending a song that mocked pro-democracy demonstrators was the right choice, because the demonstrators wanted democracy (core tenet behind the idea of Eurovision), and because it's a song that's definitely punching DOWN.
IDK. What I'm getting at is probs:
Personal is political, so having political issues viewed through personal lens is ok, as long as the issue is also abt criticizing those IN POWER, not about mocking those who are powerless.

    • @Shannis75
      @Shannis75 Год назад +1

Also, I have to say I really love the variety we have in Eurovision this year. I feel the contest is changing, and for THE BETTER.
I hope the more experimental stuff gets rewarded by placing well, because now we're FINALLY getting a ton of very unique and interesting stuff around the continent (the world even, since Australia is in the competition as well), instead of getting 26 variations of the generic Eurovision formula. That was boring, whereas I am genuinely excited for the stuff we're seeing now. Spain's entry is INCREDIBLE, Armenia's and Austria's entries have potential to become MASSIVE hits, I absolutely love both France's and Serbia's entries, the ethnic bops (Ukraine), the rock songs are also really strong, and while I don't normally even LIKE Eurovision ballads (too formulaic) the ones we have this year are amazing (shoutout to Estonia).
(I'm a Finn, so I can't say anything abt Käärijä since I am biased, but I love our dorky boi, his silly song and his absolutely mental performance A LOT.)

This is a great song with an indirect message to the dictator and villain Putin. Although this message is indirect and requires a little knowledge of general history and the current state of the world, I think that in 3 and half minutes it managed to send a message that many politicians cannot send in an hour of speech. As for the psychedelic music in the song itself, it is like a backdrop that evokes the lyrics of the song itself. Let 3 is a very experienced punk-rock group that has been around since the mid-eighties of the last century. It should be said that they are very good musicians and singers. They could have performed electric guitar solos or vocal solos, but that's not the point of this song. They did not use all their repertoire of knowledge because it was not necessary for the message of this song. It should also be said that this is a punk-rock band that also has artistic performances and performs theatrical performances. So this is a performance with a message. Some think that Eurovision should be a collection of ballads about love, but I personally think that it should be an event that supports freedom of expression. No other manifestation gives the possibility to convey a message to society through a song, i.e. to so many people at the same time. I like this a lot. This year, Let 3 at Eurovision is what Picasso and Salvador Dali are to painting. I hope people will understand their message. For them, it is more important than winning, although the message would be even greater if the song won.

Šč in Croatian alphabet are letter number 25 and 4,it gives number 29. Number 29 in Croatian alphabet is z... The meaning is hidden in title.. mama z.... Let 3 exists since 87 and it was thorn for communistic party in Yugoslavia, also for first Croatian president. Main singer father as a 6 year old child was sent to concentration camp during ww2 and his aunt to Germany in another. Also their city was ruled by fascistic Italy.. for him all dictators are same and song kinda gets personal I guess...

Eurosong IS political thru the bone. And also, jurors are mostly ex national contestants. They aren't, for example, conductors or producers or music critics, music teachers. So their grades aren't reflection of real value of song. And there it results with songs had very low jury points and very high televoting points, and vice versa.
Juries bury Eurosong objectivity. They should be removed, or at least get them max 20% factor.

The USA is a very bad country, we can almost compare it with Russia... in Russia, for those words, you would probably be imprisoned for 15 years if they didn't kill you before, like they killed all the political opponents of Putin or the journalists who were imprisoned for saying one the wrong word... the whole of Eastern Europe is fleeing to NATO because it knows what it's like to live under the Russian occupation in 1945-1990... people from all over the world want to go to the USA or the EU, no one wants to go to Russia... why?
you are not aware of your unconsciousness... Russia does not value the lives of its own people either... it sends them to war without adequate equipment... in one year of the Russian-Ukrainian war between 100,000-200,000 Russian soldiers were killed... these are estimates... The USA with a coalition of 30 other countries lost 3232 soldiers in the 20th war in Afghanistan.

Dude, you missed the main point of this song. They have accentuated the Eurovision tackiness and fused it together with Stalin and Lenin characters. Then they lyrically refer to Putin as "evil little psychopath" (Their official video has English subs. You should see it). They're ridiculing both Russia and the Eurovision. This is pure art, but clearly, you're too shallow to understand this.

There is also reference to phsycopath a small psychopath going to war. That person is Putin. The song is full of cryptic messages.....genius

Being from the US, we see divisiveness in politics daily. It's exhausting. As a Eurovision fan, I'd prefer politics put aside in the contest. Remember, united by music. If I were a member of the Croatian public, I would have voted for one of the other entries. The entry is too much right now.

you have two wolves, one is white and good and the other is black and bad... which one will survive? division in politics is a normal aggregate state of society... it's proof that you don't live in a dictatorship and single-mindedness like Russia, China or North Korea... I lived in a dictatorship, I wouldn't like to do it again... :)
this is not a political song... this is an anti-war song... this is a song of love... the author of the song says that ŠČ is the essence of love and that ŠČ heals the soul and body... it is enough to meditate twice a day while saying ŠČ to you see a positive effect on your life... with love from small but beautiful Croatia... ŠČ!
      P.S.

You should probably listen to what Stuart is saying. You need to educate yourself what political means. When Toto Cutugno sang Insieme in 1992 (unite, unite Europe ...) that's political but most people liked the song and it was OK. Waving rainbow flags is political statement too. There is even one on official Eurovision channel. Eurovision is airing in countries that don't respect LGBTIQA+ / human rights. There is a reason why Croatian drag queen is dancing in a "mocking way". Check the video and you'll see that tractor is on a glacier that is melting. Do I really need to explain it's about global warming. That's political too. Would you disqualify song about global warming ? I could go on for awhile. btw. I could even argue that "Queen of Kings" is political song. It is supposed to be a "feminist" anthem. That's political question in a quite a few countries worldwide even in those that will air Eurovision. "Mama ŠČ" is a satire and there are no rules about it. It's not only about one crocodile psychopath. There are quite a few in the world right now. There are so many things going on and you can go analyzing it for hours. It's also brilliant song that I can't get out of my head. Most other Eurovison songs from 2023 I forgot after one listen and this is the one that I want to listen over and over again. btw. skipping through Croatian entries I didn't think much about it. Now I can't get enough of it. They obviously did something right ... chaotic, melodic, dealing with a serious issues and sounding like a childrens song ... everything at the same time. I just wish it was a bit longer. Especially the end when military style choir and everyone sings together.

Considering the actual content and the context of the song Mama ŠČ (Momma ShCh), this should be the closest, if not the actual, translation of the song. Greetings from Croatia ✌
º This is the anti-war song with sarcastic lyrics and irony
¹ It refers to when Belarus President Lukashenko has bought a tractor to the Russian President Putin as a gift, so since Russia finances Belarus, basically Russia bought a tractor to itself
² Šč (Щ) is a letter of the Russian alphabet (Russian azbuka), and the nickname for Russia is Mother Russia
³ Singing of (nuclear) lullaby (sarcasm)
⁴ Croatian Alphabet, in this case a little bit rearranged for the sake of the song
    Lyrics:

P.S. In 1997, the band released their fifth album, titled "Nečuveno" (translated as "Outrageous or "Unheard-of"). It was distributed as a CD, but it had nothing recorded on it. Nonetheless, 350 copies of the album were sold. The album had a video "Nečuveno" with just an empty blue screen. In 2000. Let3 made an album "Jedina" (The only one) in just 1 copy which they refused to publish, but when they did in one of their next concerts around that time, the band burned the copy in front of everyone without playing a single song from that album. There's more, but then again, google it. 😁😂
