Hercules' name is mister Satan. Videl name rearranged is devil and pans name is pan because hand was a goat. And it's a mix origin like pangea as in to say an amalgamation. And yes pain like flute
In the manga someone named granola wish to become the strongest in universe 7. However the dragons price for making this wish was that you can become the strongest so long if you're willing to shorten the lights are only three years putting him into the future of where his powers should be at. While this was being done, a group called the heaters made a wish to become the strongest also and to remain the strongest so long as they're willing to keep getting old. Vegeta gets a new form witch stronger immediately after taking damage. Goku has mastered ultra instinct. What they still can't beat this new fella named gas. Yes as Green lantern and Darth Vader powers. But then freezes shows up and cleans up house. Freezer has been training in a woman's spirit and time for 10 years. And beats Goku and Vegeta with ease and that is why they are training broly. Also Vegeta knows how to steal still energy from opponents now but he doesn't really use it unless you're the type to steal energy yourself. Are you use fusion his technique is called Forest Spirit fision . He can eat a separate piccolo syndrome from kami and nail. He can give energy himself, others or to dead body's as raw vital energy
Pans name is actually pretty brilliant. I never got it when I was a kid but it really does work on every level. It continues the food based theme from Gohan since it means bread. It continues the devil based theme from her mother and Mr Satan since Pan is a goat based greek deity that many consider one of the inspirations for the traditional devil. And of course it also connects to Pan flute which connects to Piccolo.
Under the silvery moonlight, the rhythmic ebb and flow of the tide unveiled a mesmerizing spectacle along the sandy shores - a vibrant congregation of gay mermaids emerging from the depths. Their iridescent tails shimmered with hues of the rainbow, reflecting the diversity of love beneath the waves. As the tide caressed the shore, the mermaids danced in harmony, creating a symphony of joy and acceptance. Each graceful movement echoed a celebration of their unique identities, embracing love in its myriad forms. Seashells adorned their hair, transformed into symbols of pride, and laughter echoed as freely as the waves. In this enchanted scene, the ocean became a sanctuary where acceptance reigned supreme. The mermaids, united by the bonds of love, swirled within the embrace of the tide, casting aside any societal currents that sought to divide them. With tails entwined and hearts connected, they embodied a powerful testament to the beauty of love's diversity, transcending both land and sea. As the tide continued its eternal dance, the legacy of these gay mermaids washing ashore persisted, a reminder that acceptance and love could thrive even in the depths of the ocean, echoing the sentiment that love knows no bounds.
It only makes him a bigger target and weirdly enough his strenght and weight dont change as demonstrated the first time he used it back on his fight with goku at the tournament and never used it ever again,so it makes sense he forgot about it,there really isnt a reason to use it,which is why he never used it again until now and in the filler arc of garlic jr where he matched garlic's size
@@lexzeyfercronus yeah, as ridiculous as it is, it kinda makes sense he just forgot after like decades at this point since using it? It seems that in most fights, it's not a good move haha.
He never used it again because useless, even Goku pointed it to him on their first fight, this was probably the only time it had some use since it make him a bigger target to distract Cell Maxx
There are 3 Interpretations of Pan's name: 1. It's a food pun with Gohan's family. Gohan = Rice, and Pan = Bread 2. It's a connection with Piccolo. Piccolo & Pan are both woodwind instruments 3. It's a Devil pun with Videl's family. Hercule is "Mr. Satan", Videl is an anagram of "Devil", and Pan is a Chaotic/Trickster Goat God, who is often associated with Satan. It's really very interesting!
Gohan has always been a good character he's just had weird moments. He fights and trains sure, but he has an entire life OUTSIDE of that. He doesn't enjoy like Goku and everyone else, he wants to genuinely be a scholar and have a happy life with his family. Just because he wants to live differently shouldn't mean he's a worse character for it. Sure he should keep in shape more often but he doesn't have to be an active fighter if he's never liked fighting in the first place.
True but Gohan still needs to train since Goku & Vegeta won't be around forever. He needs to find a balance which Super brings up every now & then but backpedals on multiple times. Also, unrelated to fighting, this movie does show Gohan being somewhat of a neglectful father.
The problem is that Gohan keeps getting the same character arc. He had it in Buu, he had it in Rez F, ToP, and now Superhero. True, its realistic for issues to be cyclical but interesting storytelling it is not
@@relic5752 I would say it's fair for ToP and Buu saga, but for me Res F wasn't really that much of an arc for him, and in this movie he did say he was still training, just to a much lesser extent And for me it's bullshit that toyotaro made him go "serious" in the moro saga, just to revert him 2 arcs later, no sense
6:10 Fun fact, the red-haired woman in that Family tree scene is Dr. Gero's wife. Her name is Vomi and Gero created another android in her likeness. This android is named #21 and is the main focus of Dragonball FighterZ
I thought the canon was that Gero was so insane and got so lost in his work that he literally turned his wife and son into androids since all androids start out human, or was that just 17 & 18?
My favorite moment in this movie is actually something you can barely notice on the first viewing; Piccolo calls Pan's teacher by name. He doesn't call her "Ms Whatever Her Last Name Is", he calls her Janet.
To be fair, canonically the Son family are the only ones who have last names in DB. Aside from them, a dubism gave Bulma's family the last name Briefs even though that's Bulma's father's first name, not his surname
@jeyrm remember just before the T.O.P goku and gohan fought, and gohan said and I quote "im seeking a new saiyin form, one which hasn't been seen before, and im going to do it my own way" and then gohan precedes to force goku into blue kaioken to beat him. Gohan at some point began pushing his ss form and mystic together. That's my theory anyway. Like blue is God ki plus ss. Beast could be his mystic ki plus ss
They will since its canon. But its such asspull bullshit. Goku and Vegeta are training their ass off and Picollo wishes more power and Gohan just breaks his limit again?
@@nandatou Oh no, Piccolo was beautifly explained, the most important part in the novel, but In the movie they reminded us of 2 key points Piccolo being Kami and the hidden power release the namekian elder can do (similar to the ultra sacred water or the elder kaioshin) Now, hidden power is never fully explained, but it seems to work with the power you built by trainning, but dont naturally have access to Characters like Goku, Gohan and Krillin got their potential released, Gohan more than once, but never Piccolo, and he is one character that never ever stops trainning So him asking to release his potential was big, and the other key point was the fact that the modified dragon balls did it Because who is the creator of the DBs?Kami/Piccolo Shenron didnt only release his hidden power he gave to its creator the power of the Dragon/Dragon Balls, Which is connected to the anscestral power of the Namekian people This is expanded by the symbol Piccolo has in his back, which is the combination of the Tree that grows in Namek (Ajissa) and the circle is the symbol of the dragon, representing Namkian pride, as the de DBs were used to grant power to namek heroes in the past But to Piccolo, he is directed connect to earth DBs, not only by millions of years lf heritage, but as the creator, and Shenron knows this
misconception at 10:55 iirc, Toriyama himself decided to jump back to Goku because Gohan's docile nature didn't lend itself well to being the protagonist of a series like DB- Goku being a kind of instigator who seeks out challengers is easier to write than Gohan, a 'hero of justice' who only does it part-time and isn't dedicated to the series' long running theme of self-improvement through training and hard work (and probably because Goten wasn't interesting enough to pass the mantle to, better to just go the iconic route with papa Goku instead rather than force the role to his other son)
It wasn’t that Goten wasn’t interesting. It was that they dropped him at the end of Z and the. Toriyama didn’t want to stop writing for Goku. There’s a reason why Gohan couldn’t carry the story, and why desoite Goten being just like Goku, Toriyama didn’t want to write him
It's a shame how Gohan's character seems to fly over peoples head. Suraj saying his character got assassinated while the way Gohan ended up being fits him perfectly. He literally didn't like fighting as a kid. He himself was an scared kid and only fought when he was pushed to fight. It wasn't just Chi Chi's influence. That was him as a kid. While Goku as a kid went head in first. He was nothing like his dad. But so many DBZ fans just want him to be exactly like Goku, which is silly. If you want badass Gohan, you already have one. His name is Goku.
Gohan does not need to be a fighter or "cool" to be a good character. The entire point of his character is that he DOESN'T want to be that, and he's happy NOT being that. He's learned that he needs to be prepared, but that's ALL. Let the "GOHAN IS TRASH NOW, I HOPE HE FIGHTS MORE" stuff go. It's old and tired, and it will never be what happens.
Seriously, it's annoying how many people think "If he isn't the badass we envision (and nothing else, or at least in addition to the other stuff), he's a shit character" ^That's not how it works, at all imho
@@Omegafire17It's a problem that so many Dragon Ball fans have, more obsessed with characters fighting than actually consuming a coherent story that makes sense. And set up from day one that Gohan isn't a fighter, at least not willingly
Problem is: this series doesn’t even have a relevant story. It’s just fighting and new transformations over and over again, so if you’re not turning up all the time, nobody has time for you.
Then the series needs to stop giving him the same arc over and over again. He is weak in the Buu arc so he trains to become in top shape but accomplishes nothing in the end, in Resurrection F he is weak and needs to be whipped back into shape, before the tournament of power he is weak and needs to be whipped back into shape, and then this movie he is back to being weak and needs a power up to win. They give Gohan the same arc of being weak because he doesn’t want to be a fighter but then bring him back in anyways with no real effort or growth. The character has actually become stagnant and boring. People should bring up that aspect of Gohan.
They didnt assissinate his character just because hes not a crazy ass fighter like his father doesnt mean hes a bad character hes half human for crest sake and if you go back into the beginning of dragon ball z he would tell bulma that he would like to be a scholar. Hell if you ask me he's living his life married to his highschool sweetheart even had a kid by her and hes doing what he loves becoming what he always wanted to be.
Except that this is a show about people punching each other. Not a single person on the world watches Dragonball for the deep story, this is not a character driven show, this is a basic ass anime about basic ass people punching each other in flashy ways. So yeah one of the strongest characters not wanting to fight is a bad character for this type of show. It is not a character assassination since it does keep in-character with him, he indeed never wanted to be a fighter. It's just that this type of character simply doesn't match this type of show. It's likw having someone immortal in a horror movie. It devalues the movie by removing the one thing that makes it interesting. And the same goes for Gohan. Removing the fighting from an anime that people only watch FOR the fighting automatically makes him less interesting.
@@EskChan19 Well you ain't wrong that's the main reason on why Dragon ball is so popular cause people don't really care about deep story telling other then anime character beating the hell out of each other and flashy transformation and whatnot. But at the same time you got to have characters to develop, that's why dragon ball community is one of the toxic ass fan base to ever exist in the anime community they don't really care about good story telling it's all about Fighting and most of the time people would bitch if it ain't about Goku or Vegeta or Gohan becoming Crazy ass nut case who would put the entire universe in danger just to fight somebody *COUGH COUGH Goku. Then it's trash, but I noticed since the anime ended years ago alot of people has finally to understand on why Super itself is trash.
dragon ball isnt just about fighting clown hater, its adventure, martial arts, comedy. your an idiot dragon ball is also a character devope show. you haters are full of shit@@EskChan19
The fact that you guys were so down for krillin to just die for the sake of others is the whole reason why krillin is scared to fight some of these big bosses now 😭 krillin has witness death and died himself so many times that seeing why he is so hesitant now makes so much for sense
39:07 That's kinda the thing IT DOESN'T MAKE HIM STRONGER, it's like a reverse ant-man, he grows but doesn't get more powerful because his powers come from his ki
You guys are all right when it comes to Pan’s name. Pan of rice like Gohan, Pan flute like Piccolo, and Pan the Greek creature that “the devil” was designed after as in Videl and Hurcule/Mr. Satan 👌🏻
"Gohan got character assassinated so bad!!" Bro he literally always was a nerd and wanted to be a scholar n study stuff. This is the MOST in character he's ever been lmao
27:58 it’s not character assassination it’s just not what you wanted to happen to him. him wanting to be a scholar and not wanting to fight has been a part of his character since day one
Child Gohan: * hates fighting * Teen Gohan: * doesn't want to be a fighter * Adult Gohan: * still doesn't want to be a fighter * Normies: "They character assassinated him!"
What makes Gohan compelling is that he fights because he is needed despite his reservations. I think people get annoyed because the cycle keeps repeating and you'd think Gohan would be on his a game after being shown time and time again that he will always be needed. I think people go too far with character assassination. But the land scape of dragon ball is. You're only useful to how strong you are. Toriyama basically trained the fans to be this way so this is what you get. Yamcha went from being a thief and a bandit. To improving his life with turtle style martial arts and going off to use his discipline to becoming a rich and successful baseball player. That's actually a successful person with an arc. But to db fans he's an absolute loser. And you gotta blame toriyama for that.
NGL but I lowkey love how 18 instantly seems to be so scared of Cell Max. You can hear the PTSD in her voice thinking "oh HELL no I remember what happened the last time a Cell got anywhere near me. I DO NOT want to be regurgitated again..."
12:00 I don’t understand why people hate Gohan not picking up pan, and his parenting overall. Like he literally HAS A JOB like every other parent… like… tf… his job is very study heavy so it makes sense for Gohan to have this issue like real parents have.
1. he doesn't need the job Videl is rich plus its not like he has deadlines he's basically just publishing his own papers. 2. he can literally fly not like it'd take long to just bring her home. 3. basically the only times he leaves his office is when Piccolo drags him out of it he's almost as bad at parenting as Goku
@@chrisk3127 Part of the problem though, is that people are comparing Goku and Gohan's parenting styles to exclusively-human parenting styles. Except, even raised as humans, they're ultimately still Saiyans; they don't have the same nesting, protective instincts in their genetics as humans do, even if they do personally feel attachment to their offspring. So while I'm not saying it's a "good" thing, people need to realize that it is an understandable thing on some level as well, because they're usually wired that way (much the same way Saiyans are usually wired to love a good fight, "love strong women", and other such things).
Man I just realized, Pan has THREE meanings. Pan is the Japanese word for bread, fitting with the Son family's themes, it's also a pan flute, like Piccolo and King Piccolo's henchmen, and Pan the satyr god from Greek myth which fits the religious theming from Mr. Satan and Videl's family. Toriyama you card you
This is my favorite db super movie! I'm so happy that both Piccolo and Gohan got the spotlight and that they're back in action again. This was long overdue, well done @Akira!
As a super hero fan I ALWAYS loved Great Saiyaman. I even have the figure. Gohan is a nerd and I love him Edit: Why do people get mad Gohan wanted to start a family? Don’t blame Gohan blame the writers 😡 for him not training 😡
I definitely blame Toriyama and his preference for proactive characters and inability to organically develop Gohan from a reactive character to a proactive one
Gohan has never wanted to be a fighter. That has literally been established since he first appeared. He doesn't want to be like his father. Fighting for Gohan comes only in the matter of self-defense or preserving those whom he loves.
Animation aside, this shows me that they can write a good dragon all story that is actually a story and not just a reason to fight. And then they can expand on this in the next whatever and maybe give trunks and goten some shine
Why can’t Gohan just be a scholar and a fighter? Isn’t that more layered lol. It’s literally been for-shadowed since the beginning he was gonna be one.
Him trying to balance out being a warrior with his normal life that he actually enjoys more is the most interesting aspect of his character lmao. I mean, remember Spider-Man 2? That's why that movie is held in such high regard. A superhero who struggles to find a balance between what they want to do (Their normal life) and what they have a responsibility to do (Being a superhero) is far more interesting than one who's just a superhero constantly.
The absolute toxic masculinity that Gohan has to be a badass manly fighter badass when not ONCE in the entirety of DBZ has he wanted to be a fighter. Embarrassing.
DBS: Broly still remains as my favorite DBZ movie but this wasn't too bad. I'm glad it did Gohan and Piccolo justice, giving them both unique forms. Especially Piccolo because it's been so long
I hate when people don't want to believe what the CHARACTERS (author) IS EXPLAINING just because of their own bias. Piccolo clearly said that he didn't believe GOKU or VEGETA would've been able to beat the androids. You have to remember, 16,17, and 18 were all stronger than a normal super Saiyan after GERO collected all that data. It's been decades and these androids are programmed with even more data. Plus this takes place after the TOP so Gohan is still stronger than he was before, but they would have records of Super Saiyan Blue which puts them at base that level.
It’s understandable because the author is inconsistent. Which is why they are still subject to strict scrutiny. Also the movie was made before the granolah arc was completed. The last time piccolo and gohan seen Goku and Vegeta was during the climax of the Moro Arc. They’ve become exponentially stronger compared to then. Also it doesn’t matter what show or movie, promotional material (like interviews about the movies) have to be taken with a grain of salt because the purpose is to create hype for the movie.
@kandelljordan1018 yes it was made before that's the only reason Goku and Vegeta aren't using their new forms, (script was already finished, but it still takes place after that Arc, and yeah it could be just be for promotion or it could be Akira stating his facts. I just hate how everyone automatically disregards what is stated in the movie when it comes to characters strength, bc of bias or bc it's a character they aren't familiar with. Plus Gohan being on the same level or stronger than his dad and Vegeta still would make sense for his character. He's been doing it since the saiyan saga lol🤷🏾♂️
It’s a shame no one mentioned android 21(since this film is canon)…which means that android 21 Easter egg is canon…which means android 21 will hopefully be coming in the near future 🔥
Vomi (Gero's wife) is canon, she has also appeared in the Kakarot game. Android 21 (the bio-android in FighterZ who was once Vomi) is still not canon, not yet at least.
Gohan wants a normal life as a scholar and i like that It's not a downgrade of his character, just because he's not like his Dad doesn't mean his character is bad U guys are not very cool with that lol
It's moreover like forced to not bring gohan as protagonist because fans didn't want the iconic character goku to be ruined .That's just disgusting because we already seen goku many times powered up and it's just gets boring to see goku being protagonist for 40 years. Now after so many years they tried gohan but that's just too late . They could have done it after DBZ .
I'm not much of a fan of CG anime but I think the animation turned out pretty well. The dream would be Broly animation as standard but I think some parts of this film looked especially great.
Orange piccolo has so much build up from his character. From og Dragonball to dbz to super. Kami( demon piccolo's good side) created the dragon balls and this movie really had piccolo reconnecting with his roots after realy just ignore it. Even shenron stil calls him lord piccolo and him getting some of that power from shenron is perfect.
@@mouseinthehouse_ I'd look up Carthu's "The Road to Orange Piccolo" to get a better explanation. But, TLDR, it has a large amount of buildup. From the moment Piccolo decided to give up his life to protect Gohan, he has been on this path. He learned what it meant to be Namekian when he fused with Nail. Then he finally lays to rest his demons and fuses with Kami, becoming whole again. Then, now in this movie, he gains back the last remaining vestige of power leftover from Kami from what used to be HIS dragon, but not anymore. Since Shenron is now officially Dende's dragon, and is fueled by Dende's own power, the previous power infused into Shenron from Kami was gifted back to Piccolo. And like the way the symbol on his back is made, an Ajisa tree blooming into life when the circle representing Piccolo is completed, he transforms. Gaining the many aspects of what makes up Piccolo. The warrior, the god, and now the dragon. His new form even is made up of colors representing the Dragon Balls! This was a deserved and built up moment.
Piccolo Orange is him, coming full-circle - from Demon King to Warrior, to God then Dragon. That symbol on his back is a fully grown Agian tree, the actual symbol of Namekian pride. Funny thing, Piccolo Orange is… Orange with red highlights, similar to the Dragon Balls. Nice. 😊
The Super Hero movie was actually turned into a season / fleshed out by the manga. The Super manga adapted the movie and added a backstory involving Teen Goten & Trunks, and Dr Hedo. It's just about getting to the Beast Gohan stuff now.
Pan's name is a triple reference. It's an instrument (linking her to Piccolo), but is also 'bread' in spanish and portuguese (following the food naming theme of Gohan, Chi-Chi, the saiyan names, etc.) and is also the name of a pagan deity that christianity associated with the devil (linking her to Mr. Satan and Videl's names). Toriyama was in genius mode when naming the character.
Actually her name is pretty clever since it honors three naming schemes. Yes it does mean bread and thus continues the food motif of the Son Family, but it also continues Mr. Satans (or Hercule in the american dub) satanic naming scheme, since Pan is a greek god who is often portrayed as a Goat person who tempts people and as such is thought to be what the idea of the devil in christianity is based on. And thridly, it honors Gohans greatest mentor, as a Pan and a Piccolo are both a type of flute
2:35 I'm gonna agree on Super's writing bring so Underrated when it comes to handling the mundane day to day lives of these characters we've grown to love. Trust Me,I love seeing fights and Tournaments and awesome enemies. But I'll always treasure moments with Gohan gifting Piccolo a picture of their Wedding Day and Piccolo's heartfelt reaction to it,or Piccolo being a Grandpa to Pan,Vegeta Training with Kid Trunks and actually waiting with anticipation to see his Daughter,Krillin and 18 being a Couple etc. These slice of Life moments truly add so much more time with these characters and I'll always appreciate it.
I like how people always try to say now that like "Vegeta has always been better than Goku before" and they forget thats because Vegeta never dared to fight Goku when he was actually stronger lol He always just got mad and flew off 💀
Damarian reminds me of that 1 person in the friend group who's watced 1 anime in his entire life but tries to fit in even though he doesn't know what the hell is going on.
47:49 so this movies takes place after the Moro and Granola arc from the manga and in the later Frieza achives a new form that literally one shotted Goku ui and Vegeta's new form, so yeah they're training for that
I watched this movie in theaters twice: first for the Japanese version and second for the English dub. It was fun to watch. I'm glad they gave Goku and Vegeta a break from being the protagonists and made Piccolo and Gohan the focus. Piccolo, in particular, is the star of the movie.
Regarding Pan's name, "Pan" means "bread" in japanese (which is derived from Spanish / French since bread didn't exist in Japan before it's introduction from Europe), and Gohan means "rice" - both are grain based food. But the "pan-flute" connection with "piccolo" is a fun idea!
This movie's timeline takes place after 2 whole arcs from the manga. Pan's name is derived from the word bread which is almost the same for both Spanish and Japanese. As well as a Flute instrument.
Pan's name is derived from 3 naming schemes which is pretty cool. It does mean bread, which follows the food theme of the Son family. But it also is greek god who was the basis that the christians took to invent the devil from, which follows Videls family naming scheme as Hercules name in any dub other than the american one is Mister Satan. And it honors Piccolo because Piccolo and Pan are both a type of flute.
That transformation for gohan is called Gohan Beast, and when he's transforming into it, you can hear then Teen gohan when he was going as super sayian 2 when he was fighting perfect form cell
I’d love a show of the Bulma squad workers who go out to retrieve the dragon balls and struggle with that. They’re probably just normal people, maybe form dog people here and there. I wanna see how they deal with Goku level problems to get those balls
*I Know they will never See This but here we go Gohan not wanting to fight isn’t “character assassination” nor it’s “becuz of chi chi”, god for bid a mother cares for her kids smh That’s who gohan is and has always been he’s a half breed so that urge isn’t in him Gohan since the age of 4 has witnessed his dad die then was thrusted into the woods to survive for a year in preparation for the saiyans Then gets the shit beat out of him by nappa then piccolo who he grew an attachment for dies in front of him Then has to head to namek and gets his neck broke by racoome and beaten by vegeta and dealing with the ginyu force Being traumatized more so when krillin dies next to him by frieza Frieza threatening his life, then later having to deal with cell, 16 who he became friends with dies…so I would say maybe that’s why gohan doesn’t like fighting unless he has to When he’s calm he’s more human but when he gets in rage, ssj2 vs cell or gohan beast that saiyan side comes out Maybe actually learn about gohan before u can say ur a fan of him k*
I think it's brilliant how they now have a 24/7 Dragon Ball retrieval team, considering I remember what usually happens when anyone other than the Z Warriors have their wishes come true.
Love this movie so much, the 3d animation is very well done massive improvement from how they had 3d models look before. Music is really cool, really love the look for both Gohan’s and Piccolo’s new forms. The battles are insane, new characters are great. The flashbacks are great. Just overall a really fun movie, apart from small things that I think could be better. 🐉
While the manga adaptation is not yet complete, it has offered a bit of insight into the film and how it fits into canon. Goten and Trunks are shown to be engaged in superheroics, and actually were responsible for Dr. Hedo's imprisonment as seen in the beginning of the film. It also makes clear that Super Hero is set after several manga-exclusive arcs in Dragon Ball Super which have yet to be animated, such as the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Saga and the Granolah the Survivor Saga. Not only does this help to fill out that ten-year period, but it also finally combines the two separate continuations of Super (films and manga) into one continuity.
Imo gohan beast damages gohan as a character as he just feels like a hollow shell used as nostalgia for every dumb "i wish gohan was badass again" person
So from what I've read Gohans Beast form is him operating at near overload. Since he has such high potential that Overload state leaps beyond Blue with ease. In the Manga for this Goku and Vegeta react as if they feel Gohans transformation on Beerus' planet.
@@QuantumFishFTW Even in an action show, action (or lack thereof) =/= entire worth of character. Gohan is a character with many elements beyond just being a fighter; people should recognize and appreciate that more. It's outright unfair to only judge him based upon the one element, especially one that he has actively hated/disliked since the beginning
Awesome video. To keep up the japanese super hero topic, maybe check out Shin Kamen Rider. If you have trouble finding it, it may be under the title "Shin Masked Rider" instead.
Its crazy how people love Gohan but they domt know shit about him I swear people base his ENTIRE character around his ssj2 moment and think thats supposed to be him 24/7 its annoying
I've seen DB, DBZ,GT, most of DBZ movies, and super movies (battle of the gods, resection of F, Broly and Super hero) and I haven't seen dragon ball super(series) and dragon ball heroes. I did see the Bradock and Trunks special along with DBZ abridge series.
Actually gohans name being rice is why he named his daughter pan which is bread in JP, also tbf on the world not discovering the red ribbon army, stealth dome or not, these are the same people who frequently buy every story Mr. Satan has and forgot about king piccolo nearly destroying the world in about 3 years and forgot a bunch of other stuff the dragon team has done 😂
Vegeta has always and will always be my favorite character, Future Trunks is my second; as a kid I didn't hate Goku but I also didn't care about him that much. Of course I wanted to see him win against his foes, but the thing that changed my mind about Goku is that fact that everyone of his friends was once either his rival ( Krillin & Tien ) or his enemy first ( Piccolo & Vegeta, etc ). To me that is a the best super power ever. I will turn any foe into an ally I can depend my life on and vice versa. That is what makes Goku awesome in my opinion.
It was actually Toriyama who wanted Goku to remain the main character. He said he just didn't feel Gohan was interesting enough of a character to be the main character and tbh I agree. And Gohan had already "came back" as a great fighter by the ToP. And I'll die on the hill that Piccolo is an uncle figure for Goahn. He is nowhere near father level.
Gohan likes studying, he's always been like that, I don't understand why people would want otherwise. Not even to say that he must have some responsibility for his powers since no one certainly complains about the fact that Goku and Vegeta are not heroes
I really like that this movie basically had Piccolo as the main character. When it comes to Gohan, the problem isn't that "he's weak now" or doesn't like fighting in and of itself, the problem is that he keeps having to re-learn the same lesson over and over again about how he has to mantain some level of strenght to protect his loved ones. It's just that because Dragon Ball is mostly about the fights, it manifests as Gohan getting his ass kicked by enemies he should be able to put a better fight against.
about the phone, in Piccolo's defense doesn't he have like, really big hands? I mean he's an 8 foot tall slug man, I'd imagine a phone made for someone with human proportions would be kinda unwieldy for someone like him.
O I always enjoyed the fact that they finally brought back this side of Gohan so once he went beast his mystic form was able to go super Saiyan basically which is crazy asf within itself lol. It was way overdue for piccolo and Gohan to get some kind shine time instead of Goku and Vegeta
Gemma 1 and Gemma 2 according to Toriyama are around the same power level with Goku and Vegeta...(its possible that he meant before the Granolah Arc)....
So there's a joke in abridged after Piccolo hits Goku and Radditz with the special beam cannon. Radditz is like there's was no way to escape the full Nelson and Piccolo was like you could've flew away. You can't tell me they didn't take inspiration from that joke.

That multi beam move is a Godzilla move
It's like it cost too much money to draw cell with the ability to regenerate
Hercules' name is mister Satan. Videl name rearranged is devil and pans name is pan because hand was a goat. And it's a mix origin like pangea as in to say an amalgamation. And yes pain like flute
They are training for black Frieza
Wow!
Are u talking about baphomet? Moro is inspired by him not Pan
Stop being dense. Theyre talking about names, not character design.
I never thought of that, but Pan could be also a diminutive for pants i guess? Since everyone from bulma's family is named after underwear/clothes
@@aqsw57Pan isn't related to Bulma in any way though
Hot take: Gohan being the nerd that can turn up whenever he's called upon is much better than him just being Goku 2.0
Not really a hot take since that’s pretty much how Gohan’s always been
The way u described it just put him in such a new light for me
We already have Goten to be the inferior Goku 2.0
I just wish we could stop getting the same cycle with Gohan that he's had since Buu
"Piccolo, you can grow"
"Oh yeah, I didn't remember"
I could definitely imagine an Abridged episode with those lines
Toriyama just casually throwing his traits onto his characters
I mean it’s been over 20 years, I don’t blame him forgetting. Plus last time he used it didn’t really work
There are 3 Interpretations of Pan's name:
1. It's a food pun with Gohan's family. Gohan = Rice, and Pan = Bread
2. It's a connection with Piccolo. Piccolo & Pan are both woodwind instruments
3. It's a Devil pun with Videl's family. Hercule is "Mr. Satan", Videl is an anagram of "Devil", and Pan is a Chaotic/Trickster Goat God, who is often associated with Satan.
It's really very interesting!
Clever stuff, being able to name Pan after all 3 of her grandpas 😏
Gohan is a genius after all! 😄@@Mrryn
PLEASE have Chris, Spidey, Navi, and anybody else how hasn't watched Dragon Ball Super: Broly, do a reaction. 🙏
yeah please 🙏🙏
bro they have tooooo
Yessss Chris and Spidey were gold in this reaction. I wish they would have been in the DBS and DBZA reactions too, would have made them even better
Yesssssssss
Yo....we literally JUST watched the Broly movie 😁😁😁😁😁, ITS SOOOO FUCKING GOOOOOD!! HOLY SHIT Y'ALL!!
Gohan before Max Cell: Pacifist...
After Max Cell:
PASS-A-FIST
The problem is that Gohan keeps getting the same character arc. He had it in Buu, he had it in Rez F, ToP, and now Superhero. True, its realistic for issues to be cyclical but interesting storytelling it is not
@@relic5752 I would say it's fair for ToP and Buu saga, but for me Res F wasn't really that much of an arc for him, and in this movie he did say he was still training, just to a much lesser extent
And for me it's bullshit that toyotaro made him go "serious" in the moro saga, just to revert him 2 arcs later, no sense
Yeah, gohan has essentially thrusted into a life threatening danger since he was 4 and didn’t want to be part of I say he’s been traumatized
@@andrewmarshall3408that was just 17 and 18 who were teenagers he kidnapped
@@andrewmarshall3408 I'm not really sure what the lore is all about with 21 but 16 was a fully mechanical Android unlike 17 and 18.
@@andrewmarshall3408no. His son died and he modeled android 16 after him
My favorite moment in this movie is actually something you can barely notice on the first viewing; Piccolo calls Pan's teacher by name.
Really fun movie. I hope Orange Piccolo and Beast Gohan get a lot more time to shine in future DB media, the latter especially.
I hope more in depth explinations of Beast gohan
Piccolo is quite awesomely explained with the novels info
@jeyrm remember just before the T.O.P goku and gohan fought, and gohan said and I quote "im seeking a new saiyin form, one which hasn't been seen before, and im going to do it my own way" and then gohan precedes to force goku into blue kaioken to beat him. Gohan at some point began pushing his ss form and mystic together. That's my theory anyway. Like blue is God ki plus ss. Beast could be his mystic ki plus ss
@@damiancooper8365 Oh that would be cool
The colors wouldnt exactly make sense, not that god do, but at least its an explination
They will since its canon. But its such asspull bullshit. Goku and Vegeta are training their ass off and Picollo wishes more power and Gohan just breaks his limit again?
@@nandatou Oh no, Piccolo was beautifly explained, the most important part in the novel, but
In the movie they reminded us of 2 key points
Piccolo being Kami and the hidden power release the namekian elder can do (similar to the ultra sacred water or the elder kaioshin)
Now, hidden power is never fully explained, but it seems to work with the power you built by trainning, but dont naturally have access to
Characters like Goku, Gohan and Krillin got their potential released, Gohan more than once, but never Piccolo, and he is one character that never ever stops trainning
So him asking to release his potential was big, and the other key point was the fact that the modified dragon balls did it
Because who is the creator of the DBs?Kami/Piccolo
Shenron didnt only release his hidden power he gave to its creator the power of the Dragon/Dragon Balls, Which is connected to the anscestral power of the Namekian people
This is expanded by the symbol Piccolo has in his back, which is the combination of the Tree that grows in Namek (Ajissa) and the circle is the symbol of the dragon, representing Namkian pride, as the de DBs were used to grant power to namek heroes in the past
But to Piccolo, he is directed connect to earth DBs, not only by millions of years lf heritage, but as the creator, and Shenron knows this
misconception at 10:55
iirc, Toriyama himself decided to jump back to Goku because Gohan's docile nature didn't lend itself well to being the protagonist of a series like DB- Goku being a kind of instigator who seeks out challengers is easier to write than Gohan, a 'hero of justice' who only does it part-time and isn't dedicated to the series' long running theme of self-improvement through training and hard work
(and probably because Goten wasn't interesting enough to pass the mantle to, better to just go the iconic route with papa Goku instead rather than force the role to his other son)
Seriously, it's annoying how many people think "If he isn't the badass we envision (and nothing else, or at least in addition to the other stuff), he's a shit character"
^That's not how it works, at all imho
People should bring up that aspect of Gohan.
exactly bro, so annoying hearing people complain about gohan all the time
With all the Mario and Luigi jokes they were making I'm surprised none of realized that the villain was voiced by Mario himself Charles Martinet

The fact that you guys were so down for krillin to just die for the sake of others is the whole reason why krillin is scared to fight some of these big bosses now 😭 krillin has witness death and died himself so many times that seeing why he is so hesitant now makes so much for sense
39:07 That's kinda the thing
IT DOESN'T MAKE HIM STRONGER, it's like a reverse ant-man, he grows but doesn't get more powerful because his powers come from his ki
You guys are all right when it comes to Pan’s name. Pan of rice like Gohan, Pan flute like Piccolo, and Pan the Greek creature that “the devil” was designed after as in Videl and Hurcule/Mr. Satan 👌🏻
Pan is Bread, but it's still food so still counts
"Gohan got character assassinated so bad!!"
Bro he literally always was a nerd and wanted to be a scholar n study stuff. This is the MOST in character he's ever been lmao
Yup ! 💯
Loved how Gohan used his father Goku’s move when he first fought Cell, now he uses his other father Piccolos move in this one.
Piccolo isn’t Gohan’s other dad this stupid is getting old
27:58 it’s not character assassination it’s just not what you wanted to happen to him. him wanting to be a scholar and not wanting to fight has been a part of his character since day one
Child Gohan: * hates fighting *
Teen Gohan: * doesn't want to be a fighter *
Adult Gohan: * still doesn't want to be a fighter *
Normies: "They character assassinated him!"
And you gotta blame toriyama for that.
theyre all a lil slow bro LOL
This the problem with Dragon Ball fans, they never understood Gohan never wanted to aspire to be a fighter 😂
Maybe because he could’ve picked her up it’s just that he didn’t want to lol
He doesn't even have a 30min commute, he can spare 10min to pick Pan up.
He isn't leaving the office..HE WORKS FROM HOME MY FRIEND, if he is home he can go pick up his kid.
1. he doesn't need the job Videl is rich plus its not like he has deadlines he's basically just publishing his own papers. 2. he can literally fly not like it'd take long to just bring her home. 3. basically the only times he leaves his office is when Piccolo drags him out of it he's almost as bad at parenting as Goku
You guys should have the people who haven't watched DBZ Abridged do reactions to it so you can all enjoy future DB content together
Are people watching DBZA like its actually Dragon ball???

Gohan is a nerd and I love him
Edit: Why do people get mad Gohan wanted to start a family?
Piccolo; Making my body bigger didn’t make me any stronger, it’s basically a bluff
“Yeah but you’re also stronger.”
👁️👄👁️
Why can’t Gohan just be a scholar and a fighter? Isn’t that more layered lol. It’s literally been for-shadowed since the beginning he was gonna be one.
Because he enjoys doing one of those things and he doesn't enjoy doing the other.
Gohan does not like fighting, at all.
Gohan doesn’t have a fetish for fighting unlike his saiyan heritage
He's a boring character who goes through the same arc
Future Gohan clear
Yep lol
DBS: Broly still remains as my favorite DBZ movie but this wasn't too bad. I'm glad it did Gohan and Piccolo justice, giving them both unique forms. Especially Piccolo because it's been so long
DB*S
Gohans so cool, he had the best teachers in his two dads, he inherited their techniques and also made it his own
I hate when people don't want to believe what the CHARACTERS (author) IS EXPLAINING just because of their own bias.
Now I am sure of one thing. This DBZ world Earth is made of Katchin metal . Yup 😅

@@DizRupTnz did you even read what I said…I’m aware she’s canon…what I’m saying is no one in the reaction mentioned it
Gohan wants a normal life as a scholar and i like that
It's not a downgrade of his character, just because he's not like his Dad doesn't mean his character is bad
U guys are not very cool with that lol
literally that one DB meme with the fans just want them to be "edgy" lol.
FYI; Vegeta has never lost to Goku in a fight. Goku has beaten characters much stronger than Vegeta, but 1v1 Vegeta always wins.
It has zero build up. They just decided to turn him orange for this movie. It's been decades with zero development
Gohan is literally the best dad ever like i don't get where you guys got that impression of him being like Goku

@@mcbjon yes true if some db fan really watch the show they well know this goku is not a bad dad but also not perfect dad he is decent dad at most
Piccolo Orange is him, coming full-circle - from Demon King to Warrior, to God then Dragon. That symbol on his back is a fully grown Agian tree, the actual symbol of Namekian pride. Funny thing, Piccolo Orange is… Orange with red highlights, similar to the Dragon Balls. Nice. 😊
I would love a Broly reaction with Chris, Spidey, and Navi let's get it!!!
Seconded
Pan also means bread in japanese too.
“Vegeta was the scariest villain bro”… what? Lol
If you listen closely when Gohan transforms into his beast form, you can hear teen Gohan's voice from the original ssj2 transformation.
23:00 Well, in OG Dragon Ball, Bulma's wish, which is how the series began in the first place, was to get the perfect boyfriend, so...
This movie was absolutely crazy
Actually her name Pan is Pan as in japanese for bread. Gohan's name is meal/lunch/rice. Its just more food motifs.
Gohan means Rice
Specifically rice.
@@dexkani9993 Gohan can also mean lunch most japanese words have multiple meanings.
Actually her name is pretty clever since it honors three naming schemes.
Yes it does mean bread and thus continues the food motif of the Son Family,
but it also continues Mr.

I watched this movie in theaters twice: first for the Japanese version and second for the English dub. It was fun to watch. I'm glad they gave Goku and Vegeta a break from being the protagonists and made Piccolo and Gohan the focus. Piccolo, in particular, is the star of the movie.
*Suraj shows clip from DBS*
Mickey: Is that GT?
You watched / reacted to DBS. This guy has memory of goldfish.
No offense, Love you guys.
17:58 the animators knew exactly what they were doing 😏
Ps: vegeta is one lucky bastard
We're getting closer and closer to the man, the mith, the legend: Gohan Blanco.
I’d love a show of the Bulma squad workers who go out to retrieve the dragon balls and struggle with that. They’re probably just normal people, maybe form dog people here and there.
I wanna see how they deal with Goku level problems to get those balls
*I Know they will never See
This but here we go
Gohan not wanting to fight isn’t “character assassination” nor it’s “becuz of chi chi”, god for bid a mother cares for her kids smh
That’s who gohan is and has always been he’s a half breed so that urge isn’t in him
Gohan since the age of 4 has witnessed his dad die then was thrusted into the woods to survive for a year in preparation for the saiyans
Then gets the shit beat out of him by nappa then piccolo who he grew an attachment for dies in front of him
Then has to head to namek and gets his neck broke by racoome and beaten by vegeta and dealing with the ginyu force
Being traumatized more so when krillin dies next to him by frieza
Frieza threatening his life, then later having to deal with cell, 16 who he became friends with dies…so I would say maybe that’s why gohan doesn’t like fighting unless he has to
When he’s calm he’s more human but when he gets in rage, ssj2 vs cell or gohan beast that saiyan side comes out
Maybe actually learn about gohan before u can say ur a fan of him k*
I think it's brilliant how they now have a 24/7 Dragon Ball retrieval team, considering I remember what usually happens when anyone other than the Z Warriors have their wishes come true.
This arc is being done at the moment in the Manga on Shonen Jump. Pretty sure the last chapter was Piccolo going into his orange dragon form
43:50 Chris, you're almost always right, but Gohan didn't name his daughter after the musical naming puns that Piccolo's family had
@@koki84ji7 Oh, I meant in comparison to the others 😂
DBZA has done irreparable damage to the DB community.
These people are living proof of it
Ahaha piccolo is gohan's dad. Funny right? Even funnier when it's spammed a million times right? Right?
Nah are ya slow? Gohans character has always been that he didn’t want to fight. It was no character assassination, that’s his character.
In the Manga for this Goku and Vegeta react as if they feel Gohans transformation on Beerus' planet.
picollo was not gohans step father but the father that stepped up
So tired of people saying Gohan was character assassinated
It's lame bro. I'm watching an action show and the writer is actively writing my favourite character out for no reason.
@@QuantumFishFTW”for no reason” your favorite character hates fighting in a show about fighting.
@@Omegafire17 except all of his other aspects are extremely unexplored. They don't contribute anything to the story. It's just poor writing.
@@ndongift exactly what a stupid idea.
Oh yeah the guy voicing magenta is the legend who did most of the mario characters
This shit happens a lot in any kind of media. It's super annoying and makes discussing stuff impossible at times.
@@HellfireCommsfacts
I thought it was funny because Gohan dropping the sensu bean mirrors when he dropped the patara earring
That's literally the only problem I have with this movie lol.
about the phone, in Piccolo's defense doesn't he have like, really big hands? I mean he's an 8 foot tall slug man, I'd imagine a phone made for someone with human proportions would be kinda unwieldy for someone like him.
imagine still thinking goku is a bad father in 2023 that’s crazy
This movie is basically Piccolo saying “Gohan you gotta clutch up bro.”
Really fun movie. Lacked seriousness in the climax and a proper explanation for the forms though
Seeing so many dragon ball wishes makes me want a canon shadow dragon arc
O
I always enjoyed the fact that they finally brought back this side of Gohan so once he went beast his mystic form was able to go super Saiyan basically which is crazy asf within itself lol. It was way overdue for piccolo and Gohan to get some kind shine time instead of Goku and Vegeta
Gemma 1 and Gemma 2 according to Toriyama are around the same power level with Goku and Vegeta...(its possible that he meant before the Granolah Arc)....
Funny thing about Commander Magenta. His voice is none other than Charles Martinet, Mr. Nintendo himself.
So there's a joke in abridged after Piccolo hits Goku and Radditz with the special beam cannon. Radditz is like there's was no way to escape the full Nelson and Piccolo was like you could've flew away.
You can't tell me they didn't take inspiration from that joke.
