- Have trouble running a duel with your party? Do combat rules seem confusing? We are here to help!
Today Luca (@lucapianc) talks about how to run a duel on the D&D 5e combat system. This is a set of tips that will help you make a duel encounter more interesting and dynamic for your players.
Reasons to use this:
⚔️Make the gameplay feel as epic as the duel itself.
⚔️Diversify the actions your characters can perform in combat.
⚔️Make the arena you are playing in a character too.
And there's more! Yes, we made a full PDF with the complete ruling for you to have easy access during your tabletop RPG. To download it's really easy!

Really enjoyed all the tips! Thanks for sharing
These are actually really cool ideas that have given me a lot of ideas and inspiration for the next solo combatant challenge I'll throw at my players. This is the first video I've seen of yours, but I am definitely going to check out the rest of your catalogue, because if this is any indication of the other videos you've produced, you've just earned another subscriber!
Great content man! Didn't know about your channel before, instant subbed.
I have a homebrew rule that has made overall combat very dynamic in my games where you can make improvised actions together with your attacks by imposing disadvantage on yourself but giving great rewards such as:
- Trying to hit the eyes of an opponent (maybe a cut or throwing sand with your attack), this would give you disadvantage on your attack but if you manage to hit, the target would be blinded until the end of your next turn. This goes for almost everything the players want to do outside of the box, another common example is to hit the legs to reduce their movement speed by half, the same ruling is applied.
Another homebrew rule I did is to use the environment as a free action such as making an athletics check to kick a table onto the guy as part of the attack:
- In that scenario the PC would have to make an Athletics check, on a success they get the table to hit for some extra 1d4 damage or more up to the DM and the situation ofc, on a failure they hurt themselves for 1d4 damage or more etc and the table doesn't move.
- Another hypothesis is to use Acrobatics or Athletics to jump or fall from something, maybe a rope, and hit the target with advantage on a success or with disadvantage on a failure, etc...
This goes for every combat in my table and has made wonders for me, sorry for how much I've written, just wanted to share. Cheers!

Why is every "How to run Blank" video just telling people to change the rules until they're playing a completely different game?
Because unfortunately the og material sometimes doesn't support some ideas and people have to homebrew a lot to make things more fun. Rules are there to be bent after all
@@IottiPH Funny, I thought rules rules were made to be followed, but I guess that kind of thinking doesn't allow you to do ridiculous things like this.
@@mattpace1026 Following is just an option as much as anything else :P
And it's something to note that even TTRPG books generally tell you to use rules just as a guide, and to change it whenever you feel like it will makes things more fun. Fun is MUCH more important than anything else, specially when there are a lot of things that the authors couldn't write in the books for their game (because of lack of creativity, time, money whatever).
You guys are really behind on the painting...
