    As someone who only just picked up drone photography/videography as a hobby a few months ago, this channel is so useful and I learn so much from you Ted. Your keep it simple/focus on composition approach is so different from the approaches that dominate drone YT, and I feel lucky to have found this channel early on, as it prevented me from going down unproductive paths, and helped me see what really matters if one's interest is in making engaging footage.

    I’ve been filming trains for 5 years with a drone, you have some good points. One thing I learnt is let the scene tell the story don’t overcompensate with useless effects.

    • @TedNemeth
      @TedNemeth  Месяц назад +1

      Tony. You nailed it. What is it about filming trains that fascinates us? I think we all had model trains growing up. The smell of the electricity when we powered them on. Tony where are you located? I’m in New York. Our trains here are pretty boring. But filming the raised subways in Brooklyn are really special to me. I’m moving to the west coast in a year or 2 and can’t wait to film those massive old freight trains.

When you speak about wide shots for the first shot, I like that but my approach at times is different. I like to start close to a target in the center of a landscape I want to film, then fly away to reveal the landscape. Great video!

  • @RemyRAD
    @RemyRAD Год назад

    I love the way you teach cinematography/videography. Yes. Yes. All, yes.
    New shoot beautifully you edit wonderfully you color grade wisely.
    About both of those clips. The black-and-white first one was awesome. Oh what a feeling. And the feeling lingered it sustained.
    Now about the second clip, it felt very modern and crisp and grandiose. But it happened too quickly. My brain could not grab onto it the same way. It was just another day. It wasn't a special memory from the past. In black-and-white.
    I think overall. I prefer the first black-and-white version. And the soundtrack was great.. The soundtrack was tops. It was perfect. I don't remember hearing anything for the 2nd one? It just went right by me. It did not touch me. I was merely a passenger on a jet airplane going by. It did not move me like the first one did.
    I was an avid photographer. Since I was, dual digit age. At around 11. I acquired, both a telephoto and wide-angle lens adapter. For my Kodak 110 Insta Maddock! And came with a special viewer. You could pop on top of the camera. To compose your photo better. And as I recall 1/60 th of a second. I think it was a, F5 .6 was it? And fixed focus. But now I had a wide-angle and telephoto lens adapter. I felt like a Pro at 11 years of age. Daddy had a, Contaflex. With a 2.8 F, 45 mm lens and a Leaf Shutter. Meaning. You could sink strobes all the way up to 1/ 500 th of the second! You couldn't do that with Focal Plane Shutters of that era faster than 1/60. But daddy didn't have a strobe.. Daddy had flashbulbs. Only Professionals had those big, Honeywell Strobes. I always wanted one of those. They would make them much smaller by the time I would get one. As I always thought those early strobe lights, looked cool. And made so much more sense than, flashbulbs! I'm so glad flashbulbs died! It was so archaic so, 19th century. Stupid little clear plastic enclosed,, flashbulbs. So they wouldn't explode! With glass shrapnel flying in all directions. I do not miss those days! I have my Incident Flash Meter. I have a half-dozen strobe lights and slave triggers. It used to be fun 40 years ago. With my, background cyclorama, silvered umbrella soft lights. It was the last of the good old days in the late 1980s. Before cellular phones and computers took over our lives. I can remember those days before computers. Oh my God! I'm a fossil!
    Yes I remember payphones and leaded gasoline. I remember TV stations going off the air at night and signing on at sunrise. I remember when we got all of our new music from the FM radio.. I remember Wolfman Jack and Casey Kasem and me. On Baltimore's #1 Album Rock station back in 1976. When rock 'n' roll radio, meant something. When, it was a way of life. When we looked to them for guidance. In the music happening today. And how it changed all of our brains. How it unified us, Democrats and Republicans alike. We were, Americans together as one and completely independent. That's what makes us, different..
    But some Americans today are misguided. They want to tell other Americans how to live. And then defend themselves. That's not how this works here in the USA. That's gotta stop. It will only lead to our countries destruction. At we simply can't have that! Regardless of policy and political affiliations. Our nation and the American people come first. Not agendas. Not budgets. But people. Okay so we are in debt. We will go further in debt. We will continue to go into further debt. Oh well. It's what American citizens need. And lowering taxes? Are you kidding me? No. The opposite needs to happen.

    Another great video that shows, that cinematography has little to do with special LUT's, filters, "better" cameras and so on. BTW I prefer version 1. I had just another idea, Ted: What, if you would have placed the camera just a bit more to the ground to hide the tiny portion of the train coming from the right behind the other one. The result may have looked like both trains would have melted into eachother. Just an idea. Merry Christmas.

    I, personally use Davinci Resolve Studio and am not familiar with LumaFusion. I imagine it would be suitable for those who don't want to deal with a complicated interface. Good info for those that struggle with what is good cinematic footage.
    Of the two train scenes I am drawn to Version 1. I have done B&W footage in the past and it has its niche under certain circumstances. Happy Holidays Ted 😎👍

    Version 1 was awesome. So many rules to follow...ugh! Color grading is hard for me because im slightly color blind. So, trust me when i say the video i see is probably much different then the video you see. Lol! Recently went out and was droning a snow covered lake....looked great on my phone as i was droneing and filming....got home and the lake is basically blown out from the snow. SAVED what i could and it is what it is.
    I agree about the editing software. I use Filmora and it works fine for what I am doing. Like i always say, u hand me Eddie Van Halens guitar and im gonna sound horrible....hand Eddie a cheap 100 guitar and its gonna sound like a million dollar guitar. Gotta master the basics. If we dont talk before...Have a merry Christmas and thanks for all the teaching you did this year...rock the 2024 new year. You are appreciated my friend! Rock on!

    Hi Ted, a lot of gems packed into that episode! Both of the videos are great, they each have a different feel, so I'm not picking one over the other, love em both. I use Davinci Resolve, not because of its extensive feature set, but because its free, which suits a hobbyist on a budget, and it's not hard to pick up the basics.

      hey steve! I’m going to include that in an episode about my favorite drone tricks. But I’ll tell you right now how to do it:
      The drone needs to be very still (no wind). record a short clip (Clip 1) without the subject in the scene (just a few seconds). Then quickly record Clip 2 with the subject moving across the scene. I say quickly because the drone has to be in the EXACT same spot.
      Then take the 2 clips in your editing timeline and put a fade from Clip 1 to Clip 2. Done.
