    Very concisely and yet comprehensively explained. Gamers seem to have their long time favorites like Tom Vasel, Rahdo, etc when it comes to explaining games but there are others like yourself who imho deserve the same level of recognition.

      Wow, that's quite the compliment. Thank you very much! We wish we had more time to do how to play videos because we enjoy the process and it's usually very rewarding but they do take a lot of time (including all the b-roll and editing that Dylann does, as I'm not yet "trained" on all that, but will be soon).

    Genre - > Theme - > Set up - > How to play, no overlapping, no extra rules explanation - > Winner.
    That's how a tutorial video should be.
    Congrats and thanks for this. Definitely subscribed!

    • @AllYouCanBoard
      @AllYouCanBoard  Год назад +1

      Thanks for the kind words and for subscribing! Dylann's a pro when it comes to filming and all the post-production editing stuff, so a massive portion of the credit for this video goes to him. I wrote the script and sat in the front of the camera, but everything else was done by him.
      We wish we had more time to do tutorial videos. They take a lot longer than most other videos we do. We'll try to get back to doing more some day. It's nice knowing how helpful they can be to people, so thanks again for leaving this comment. :)

    6:00 has a rules error. 'take the highest value available' should be changed to 'take the NEXT HIGHER value available'.

    • @AllYouCanBoard
      @AllYouCanBoard  Год назад

      Well, in the case of the example provided, the 9 isn't available, so the 10 IS the highest value available. Unless I'm misunderstanding your comment, there's no error at that spot in the video.
      "If there are no coins available of the value required (in this case 9), take the highest value available (10)."

    • @Vectrex-pi5ib
      @Vectrex-pi5ib Год назад +1

      @@AllYouCanBoard No. In the example in the video it seems that 10 is the NEXT HIGHER value available. But you say to take the HIGHEST value available. That is NOT the HIGHEST value. In the picture at 6:02 I can se a lot of higher value than 10. I can clearly see 16 and 13. And I guess a lot of the other coins further back are also higher than 10. (If going by how the rack looks when you cut away later, I would say 24 is the highest value available, since you point out that 25 is not there)
      10 is NOT the HIGHEST value available. it is the NEXT HIGHER value available.

      @@Vectrex-pi5ib Ohhh, my bad! You're absolutely right, I see what you mean now. Sorry about that, and thanks for taking the time to clarify. I'll see if I can add a note on-screen as a correction, or at least add something to the description to hopefully avoid confusion for other viewers. Thanks!

    Excellent how to play rundown, thanks. Just received this game and the Thingvellir expansion last week. Looking forward to playing.

    • @AllYouCanBoard
      @AllYouCanBoard  3 года назад +1

      Thanks a lot, glad it turned out well. We haven't tried Thingvellir yet but apparently it gives more incentive to win bids instead of just saving your higher coins for upgrading. Gotta try it on BGA some time but I already really like the base game, good chance I'll end up getting Thingvellir soon too.
      Hope you enjoy it! - Carlo

    Here comes a huge game affecting question, how do I decide which hero to chose when I have completed a line? Do I pick any? Or is there some hidden rule that I don't know about. Thx for response ahead of time 😊

    This is the best tutorial for Nidavellir on youtube!

  • @jwfcp
    @jwfcp 2 года назад +2

    Fun game, a bit linear though, first half focus on upgrading coins and take whatever scraps people leave you, second half you get to pick first every round so you just make lemonade out of lemons. If someone ramps coins with you, they're probably not fighting for what you want anyways.

    • @AllYouCanBoard
      @AllYouCanBoard  2 года назад +1

      That's fair, although the game can't simply be that linear, because here you're only talking about one player's perspective. If you're saying that in the second half you get to pick first every round, then that means the other players aren't picking first, which means those players are having a different experience. I think it holds up to around 10ish plays before it starts to feel a bit repetitive (at least to me that's how long it took), and lose a bit of its appeal. But I tried playing with the Thingvellir expansion a couple times and I think it improved the game. Apparently there's another expansion coming out soon, hopefully they add it to BGA as well.

    Great video. I like this style. Only foggy part for me is the gems. I thought I saw somewhere that if you break a tie with a gem, you lose it or trade it or something. If I have the highest gem, do I win all ties for the first half the game, then just trade at the middle? Thanks for clarifying for me. Cheers!

    • @AllYouCanBoard
      @AllYouCanBoard  2 года назад +1

      Thank you! And good question - everyone starts with one of those gray gems (ranging from #1-5), and any time you break a tie with your gem, a trade happens. If it's only 2 players tied, then they trade gems. If more players are tied, the rule of thumb is basically the highest and lowest trade... I think the rulebook does a better job explaining it with the visual aid than I could with just my words here, take a look at the gray box on the left of page 10 here, as it breaks it down for each possible scenario: cdn.1j1ju.com/medias/0b/73/f7-nidavellir-rulebook.pdf
      There's also a #6 gem (orange) which you can earn at the halfway point of the game during the Troop Evaluation phase, if you have the majority of ranks in orange (miners). If you have the #6, you break ALL ties in your favour and you never have to trade that orange gem; you keep it for the entire game.
      I hope this answers your question, let me know if you'd like further clarification on this or anything else!

    This was a good overview of the rules. My wife and I had someone teach us this game and had no idea what the theme was until I watched this video. The game was still interesting enough but the theme does not come through in any way.

    • @AllYouCanBoard
      @AllYouCanBoard  2 года назад

      Haha yup, this game could've just as easily been about gardeners collecting seeds to plant, or whatever. It's pretty random but in a way it gives a certain vibe that I like, even if the theme is technically meaningless.

    • @AllYouCanBoard
      @AllYouCanBoard  Год назад

      Sorry to hear that. The rulebook makes the game look a lot more complicated than it really is. I was lucky enough to learn it on Board Game Arena which made it easier. Do you have any questions I could maybe help you clarify?

    Who wins if two player have the same amount of point at the end?

    • @AllYouCanBoard
      @AllYouCanBoard  2 года назад +1

      Since that's very unlikely (due to such high scores), there is no tie-breaker. If players are tied, they share the victory.

    Im sorry but for someone who is just starting out its fairly poorly explained, what are ranks? What exactly are bravery points? When do and how do we shuffle the cards to know which ones go where? What do we do with the coins after using them? How do we reset?

    • @AllYouCanBoard
      @AllYouCanBoard  11 месяцев назад +1

      I would recommend watching the entire video from start to finish because it seems like you skipped some of it. For example - if you go to 2:00 I explain ranks and bravery value right there with visuals on screen.
